My visit to Peter's shop was warranted by a seized muzzle and my normal LGS being burdened with an overflow of work. This shop wasn't the closest nor the biggest in selection and size but the interaction was way more personal than what I could've anticipated with my previous experiences elsewhere. He gave me valuable insight into what modifications were worthwhile relative to what I wanted my build to do and explained to me what should be done without pushing any extraneous services. I'll likely be visiting Peter's shop for any future work on my gear. Also- Mark was pretty cool on the phone. I've been coming to Abe for years now. During that time, I've purchased firearms, completed online firearm purchase transfers, completed PPTs, purchased stripped lowers (that he manufactured), purchased ammo, and transferred online ammo purchases. During each of these interactions Abe was professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. His prices are competitive and when he doesn't have what I'm looking for in stock, he's always been able to order whatever I wanted. When I purchase firearms online, he's always sent over his FFL info quickly. And I really appreciated that he didn't price gouge in 2020/2021 when nearby FFLs were charging $800 for Glocks! I really can't say enough good things about Abe. One of the few places I would rate higher than Five stars if Yelp allowed it. I drove all the way from San Diego to do a firearm transfer; unfortunately, the person I was doing the transaction with didn't check ahead of time and when we arrived at another store, we were told it was by appointment only. Each of us got on the phone and I called six other stores to hear either they weren't doing transfers or it would be a minimum of a week before I could get an appointment. I called Golden State Arms but got voicemail. The person on the message (Abe) said to leave a message and they would try to call back. I assumed they were going to be like all other stores, but left a message and proceeded to call other stores. But to my surprise, someone called me back within a few minutes but I missed the call as I was on the phone. He said his name was "Abe" and I called him back, leaving another message and once again, within a matter of minutes, he called me back. I told Abe I was trying to do a transfer and he invited me to come down anytime. His shop was only a couple of miles from where we were and as soon as we arrived at his store, he opened the doors for us. Abe is a super nice man and extremely accommodating. We had all the documents he asked for and we proceeded to complete the paperwork. I have done a few other firearm transfers and without question, this was by far the FASTEST I have ever experienced! And as others have noted, he has the lowest transfer fees. I wish all businesses were this customer service oriented. I honestly can't say enough good things about Abe and for him saving me from a wasted two hour drive when other stores wouldn't help us. If you are looking to do a firearm transfer, and you are anywhere within an hour drive, you should come here and let Abe help you. I was in the market for a fixed mag AR, which is tough to come by in these times. I decided to go the build route as primary use would be for out of state training/hunting. Chatting with Abe is a great experience. It's not like talking to any other FFL or gunsmith at that. He treats everyone with the utmost respect regardless of experience with firearms. I decided to purchase a stripped lower and lower parts from the FFL I found GSA from by mention. The upper receiver I went was GSA's own in house complete upper. Abe's communication is prompt, and provided updates whenever requested. I was in a short time frame due to an upcoming out of state trip and he was able to compete the rifle in time. I came to this shop looking for a gunsmith when i realized my rifles rail was being stripped off while at the range and was worried my receiver was now stripped. I called this shop and was told their store hours and to come in if/when i can. Thank you Yelpers! Was planning on buying a gun for years, but for one reason or another, just kept putting it off. Although I have many friends with guns and have gone shooting before, I never owned my own and had a lot of questions. Friends are great to go shooting with but their depth of knowledge really can range and aren't always consistent with basic gun laws. Many gun shops don't have the patience for newbies, so when I saw the reviews I immediately went over to register for a hand gun. As many have said, it's a small shop with limited inventory, so didn't make my purchase today but was fine with me. I assumed there was a waiting period anyway and wasn't mentally prepared to make my selection. Happy to have discovered a shop so conveniently located with a great person like Abe to answer all my questions. For those thinking of registering themselves, know there is a 30 question test that needs to be taken as part of the registration process. Mostly common sense, but wouldn't hurt to get familiar with CA gun laws a bit before you do. Make sure to bring $25 also, which is a reasonable cost for a gun permit. I'll admit I had my doubts at first when I met Abe, the owner, in front of his store. He just got the place recently and it was barely furnished to put it nicely. However, and this is a big one, his character and depth of knowledge really out-shined my initial impression. Very patient and professional, he walked me through all the steps of purchasing my first pistol, the tried and true Glock 19. With over a decade in the industry and then some, we spent plenty of time talking about guns, smithing, weapons manipulation, etc. Having a conversation with him was like drinking from a fire-hose; this guy is just one big wealth of wisdom when it comes to firearms and I was barely keeping up. He's not pushy into selling anything either. Yes, he's got a business to run, but he'd rather the customer walk away wiser than simply be another transaction. I have respect for the guys working at Turner's and other bigger gun stores, and while they're all great shots in 3-gun and other competitions, I doubt they can bat an eye against Abe when it comes to maintenance, smithing, and fabrication (yea, this guy MAKES guns!). Speaking of prices, this guy probably has one of the lowest prices around! I'll let you give him a call or check out his store to find out exactly what he's asking for, but put it this way, I doubt I'll bother going anywhere else except to this guy in the future. Sure, I'll still shop around just being a savvy consumer, but Abe'll likely win my business every time. Service, knowledge, and economy are all there. When I walked out of there, not only did I feel confident I had made the right choice with the G19, but most importantly, I knew I also made the right choice in bringing my business to him. P.S. this isn't just a gun store where you buy and sell guns and ammo. He's a smith, and he can do just about anything on your gun, whether you want it tuned, repaired, upgraded, or whatever!
