I went to have my propane bottle filled and was told it was too old, so they made me replace it. Seven days later, I returned to the same location to fill the new tank I had just purchased from them, and again I was told the tank was too old. This was the same tank they had sold me a week earlier. They were unwilling to fix the issue, offer a replacement, or provide a refund. I left the bottle there with no resolution. They are selling old, out-of-date propane tanks, which is illegal and unsafe. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

Stopped in to check for some plumbing parts and a mop head. The store is small and seems well stocked, but they didn't have what I needed. As with all Ace hardware stores, the pricing is steep when compared to Lowe's or Home Depot. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would return for convenience only. He researched it online and told us exactly what to do. I'm sure you've all heard the age old Ace Hardware jingle - "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks." Well, let me assure you that this particular Gold Country Ace Hardware must have completely missed that day of training where they explain what goes into be "helpful"... Here's what happened: My dad passed away in January of this year, leaving my mom at home all alone after 61 years of marriage. In mid-April, we decided that we wanted to get my mom a new gas grill for the backyard, so that she would grill herself some good food a couple of days a week. So, I called this Gold Country Ace Hardware and said I wanted to purchase a new Weber grill for my mom, explaining that I live in the East Bay, so I wanted to pay for the grill on the phone and have them assemble and deliver this new grill to her, as I was trying to get mom to eat a little better during this pandemic and we'd decided that if we could get her grilling a couple of nights a week, it would motivate her to eat better. Well, I was told that they don't do grill orders over the phone, that I would need to come into the store in person to place the order. I explained AGAIN that I lived over 2 hours away and that there was no way I was having my 82 year old mother come into a hardware store during this Covid-19 situation. I was told sorry, I'd have to place the order online. So, I reluctantly placed the order for a $699 Weber grill and got a confirmation receipt showing that the grill would be assembled and delivered on April 30th. On April 29th, I called this Gold Country Ace Hardware store to ask if I could purchase 2 new propane tanks and a grill cover to be included with the delivery the next day...and I was told there was no delivery scheduled for my mom's address the next day. I gave them the order number from my confirmation and explained that I was looking right at the receipt with a delivery date of April 30th on it. I was connected with the manager, Gretchen, who I think is possibly the owner as well. Her demeanor was less than helpful and she told me that regardless of what my receipt said, she had no order for me and that I should call the Ace Hardware customer service number to see if they could help me! I would also be remiss if I didn't mention that while on the phone with me, a fellow associate at the store asked her a question and Gretchen replied in a very condescending way that he would have to wait until she got off the phone. Her demeanor was just terrible! So, I had to call customer service and spent 52 minutes on hold to get connected with a live person, who was incredibly empathetic and in the end offered to call Gretchen back to see what he could find out, as he clearly showed a record of my order. This Ace Hardware customer service rep actually called me back a few minutes later and said he had spoken to Gretchen and that she had seemed very willing to help me after they talked and that she actually had a different grill from the one I'd ordered at the store in stock and if that one was acceptable, she would get it delivered to my mom right away. I called the Gold Country Ace Hardware back and was told that Gretchen wasn't available, so I explained why I was calling and asked if Gretchen could call me back. You guessed it, no call back! So, I called again the next day and left a message on the store's voicemail...nope, no call back. So, I decided to give the American River Ace Hardware a call, even though they were further away from us....and boy am I glad I did! A very nice guy answered and explained that Danny is the Weber grill expert, but that he was with a customer, so he'd have him call me back. Danny called me back in about 10 minutes and I told him about my very poor experience at Gold Country Ace Hardware, and Danny was amazing! He called the local warehouse to confirm they had the model we wanted, then he drove right over there and picked it up, had it assembled in a couple of hours and he personally delivered it to my mom's house, rolled it around to the back yard for her, hooked up the propane tank and made sure everything was working properly....AND even took her old grill away for us! I should also mention that Danny gave me his person cell phone number and said he would text me from that number with an update once he talked to the warehouse...and he did just that, as well texted me when he was on his way to my mom's house, AND texted once he was all done! What took weeks at the Cameron Park Ace Hardware and was met with constant poor attitudes, terrible customer service, and lack of follow-up, was all handled in the same day by Danny at American River Ace Hardware! Bottom line; I tried to do business with my local Gold Country Ace Hardware, who didn't seem interested in helping me at all...so I spent my $908 at the place with the helpful hardware folks, which is American River Ace Hardware in Folsom! As an Ace customer, I ordered and paid for a Weber grill in advance, assembled from Gold Country Ace in Cameron Park. This was my first time doing business with this particular ACE. Unfortunately, when I arrived to pick up the grill, it was discovered that I had ordered natural gas instead of propane. My mistake...I asked to exchange it for a propane. But that suggestion was received with such rudeness and disrespect, I have chosen to cancel the entire transaction with ACE. There are many stores that carry Weber grills, However, I went with ACE due to my previous experiences at other locations. I suggest any other ACE location, not Gold Country ACE. read more

With all the "big box" retailers around, the local hardware store seems to be a relic of things past. However, the good folks at the Gold Country Ace Hardware bring back that nostalgic feeling, complete with good old fashioned customer service. So convenient for any home repair needs, without having to park miles away (yes I know I'm exaggerating) and fighting the crowds of humanity (slight exaggeration). Pricing is not really an issue, since I'm mainly using them for small items like screws, and small tools, however they do have a nice selection of items, including seasonal items. I've picked up some Christmas lights from them recently and was very pleased with their selection. Other home improvement staples are also easily accessible. Paint brushes, screwdrivers, etc. I'd rather support a family run local business, whenever possible, and these guys make that easy. read more

Not Impressed at all. My dealing are only in the RC area, and I for one will now drive even further to Folsom just because of the very poor Customer Service skills offered at Gold Country. My experiance involved RC upgrade parts that were sold that were still factory sealed. When I got home and installed over 1/2 of the kit, I noticed one of the aluminum arms was 5mm too long. The kit is supposed to have 6 arms all the same length, I received 5 of the correct, and 1 a little longer. The next day when I brought this to their attention, I was told that I would need to call the manufacturer. That they would not take care of it. This, along with the poor attitude (mentioned by the other reviewer, and noticed by myself) I will now drive further down to Folsom (Hobbytown) or eBay for all my RC needs. I wanted to support local business, but it is hard when they don't support the customer. read more

Over all I give this place a just ok, not great, but worth going back to. They have just about everything you could possibly need, even the hard to find items. The ace also has a decent hobby shop on site. This is where I spend most fo my time although I do go there for od ball nuts and bolts. My dad hates the place, but more on that later. This happens to be the hobby shop where I came up with my "Social outcast" theory. There are 3 main employees in the hobby area, all of which are nice and knowledgeable but one seems a little pissed off all the time and always speaks in a matter of fact tone. At first I just thought that this guy was in a bad mood all the time. His answers are quick and its almost like he snaps at you. But then I realized what the problem was. He has been picked on most of his life for being a little nerdy or possibly home schooled. Not trying to be mean or insult the guy. He hasn't been properly socially integrated. Its not his fault and he isnt a bad guy. This is just a heads up for anyone who might think this person is a dick. If you are ever having what seems to be a bad interaction with him, just bring up birds and bird rescue. His tone will change. As for my dads experience. He rented an airless paint sprayer from them last year and once he got on the job which was in sacramento, the sprayer didnt work. My dad had to go to a different rental place and rent another sprayer. No big deal one might think. Sure ace would give him his money back, but no. My dad told the Owner what happened, showed him the receipt for the second sprayer. The owner was defensive and refused to refund the money. The owner even hooked the sprayer up to some water and the sprayer worked. Problem is, paint is ten times thicker than water. My dad wasnt trying to use water as paint. Anyone who paints knows that this isnt a proper way top test it. So the owner had a bad attitude, wouldn't refund the money, so my dad left and disputed the charge. He now refuses to even step foot in the place. That shit isnt even second rate. I have always had good service there but beware. They do not know the difference between paint and water. read more

HORRIBLE customer service from GRETCHEN & ROB (both managers). We purchased an item at sale price (paid $) that was not in stock in store, "rain check". After we made two contacts to the store and two weeks later we were told to come in a get a refund. They were not getting anymore in stock...yet the exact same item (verified by item number) is available online. There was no apology, just a bunch of excuses and "I can't", along with the urgency to process a refund. They directed us to buy the item online at full price! Horrible customer service with no willingness to assist the customer. They also fabricated stories of what happened the day we purchased the table...yet neither one was present during the purchase transaction! It needs to be noted that this item is available through another warehouse yet they were not willing to pay shipping to deliver them to this store! read more

I have the misfortune of this being my nearest hardware store. It is poorly stocked and has little to no selection. The store is perpetually staffed by teenagers and the paint "department" has mixed my paint incorrectly twice now (had to repaint our dinning room because of this...) Don't bother stoping in, just keep driving to Home Depot and save yourself some time. read more

Here's a different opinion: I'm in El Dorado Hills, so I can go to Home Depot or Lowes in Folsom and it's about the same distance. The difference? I don't have to fight traffic, ridiculous weekend crowds, or non-existent help when I go 'up the hill' instead of 'down.' Gold Country True Value is my FIRST choice in an area where I have true choices due to ease of access and friendly staff. My time and sanity are worth a few pennies more. read more

This place is consistently a terrible place to buy home repair products. They never have the required stuff . You always have to jimmy rig your project if you go with what they carry. I've been in the store many times always think "why am I even going here" and sure enough I end up driving to home depot or another Ace. They are now moving their shelf's and products around relabeling and miss marking product. "Price Check" seems to be used a lot taking a ton of time. The owner has tried to figure it out but has never been successful. give the neighborhood a break and sell the place so someone else can give it a try. read more

I LOVE this store! I walked in unsure of a great gift for my hubby and was met with such an amazing staff! They helped me get the best gift ever. One that will last a very long time and provide joy for the whole family, (a BBQ/ smoker) Both of them have the same one and could speak from experience. The service at this Ace Hardware is just wonderful. I can't say enough about the genuine personal care from the manager and sales person. She found the ad which also offered a $100 bonus gift card for purchasing other items I was buying anyway. You can't get help like this at the Big Box stores. I was able to buy one that was put together and even have it delivered to my house, by another amazing Ace staff. (Thank you, too, Mr. Nice Guy!!) Last week, I went to my local Ace at 4121 Cameron Park Drive, Cameron Park, CA, to buy some new hoses for my clothes washer. I wanted 12' stainless steel hoses. I walked in and Bill, an older gentleman, immediately greeted me and asked me if he could help. I told him what I wanted, stating that I knew that they might not have such long hoses and, if not, I could get some shorter ones with brass couplers. We walked to the appropriate aisle, and found a total of six packages of hoses, all lengths considered, including one 72", two 60", and three 48". Bill then went in search of a coupler and found ONE in stock. We looked at the rubber hoses, and I asked about whether stainless steel would be preferred, and Bill assured me that rubber hoses would be just as good (lie number 1). That was academic, however, because they didn't have enough of THOSE in stock, either. So then Bill says that I should just let Ace build me some hoses of the right length (lie number 2). He went to look at some reinforced bulk d/w hose that they had, and admitted that he didn't know if it could handle the water pressure of a clothes washer. He told me he was going to go look up whether it would and left (lie number 3). When he returned, he had obviously not looked up anything, and just said that the hose was reinforced (which was written on the box) and would be fine. He left to go find some hose repair clamps, and couldn't find enough metal ones, so grabbed some plastic ones, again reassuring me they would be fine (lie number 4), but then telling me that I would have to put the whole thing together myself. I repeatedly asked him if this was going to work, and he repeatedly assured me it would (lie number 5). I asked him if I would be coming back the next day to return everything "in tears" and he stated that he sure hoped not (not a lie, specifically, but did not bother to tell me they don't take returns on DIY). I took the items home, and I followed the instructions provided to me by Bill. The plastic clamps had metal screws that you have to tighten down, which I did. I attached the new hoses to the washer and to the spigot, turned the water on, and BOTH hoses failed at the washer end. Thinking I had just not tightened the clamps enough, I slowly began to tighten each screw, attempting to create a tight enough seal to stop the water that was literally SPRAYING out from between the hose and the connector (not between the connector and the washer). Sure enough, before I could tighten it enough to stop the water from spraying, one of the metal screws stripped the threads of the plastic clamp, and I had to shut the whole thing down, since it was now impossible to get the clamp any tighter. I was disappointed and frustrated. The next day, I took the whole mess back to Ace to explain to them that Bill's idea had been a spectacular failure and that the materials he had sold to me were inadequate for the job. Their response: Oh, yeah, Bill makes everything sound easy. They refused to refund my money, and treated me like I had just not done it right somehow. I guess, because I am a woman, they must have seen me coming from miles away, convincing me to buy supplies that were not appropriate, at the tune of approximately $51, then patronizing me when I came back after realizing I had been sold a bill of goods. I went to my local Ace, even though I have a Home Depot just as close (in Placerville) because I wanted to give my business to a local store, vs. a big chain. I told them this when I walked in. They thanked me by lying to me and cheating me. I can't express how disappointed I am, since I trusted Ace to be a place where I could get advice, and a place where I could feel good about spending my home repair money. Since the incident, I have had several DIY type friends who have all expressed astonishment and disbelief that I was told to use rubber hosing and clamps on a washer. One even laughed when I started to tell him what Bill had recommended. I am not a rich person, and the $50 I wasted was a significant amount to me, especially since I then had to go to Home Depot and spend almost as much getting hoses that DID work (stainless steel and they had them in stock). Money aside, I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am that one more "local" store is more about it's bottom line than about truly being a service to its community. I guess Bill deserves a raise. As con men go, he is an expert, although every customer who deals with him will become a lifetime Home Depot fan. read more
