We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here while staying in Galena. It was about a 15-minute drive for us from our b&b - be wary, it's quite dark on the country roads at night with no streetlights once the sun goes down after 9 pm in the summer. The restaurant is inside the small but upscale inn, and we were seated in an inside booth facing the beautiful outdoor scenery. We ordered the soft shell crab and scallop appetizers, and the beef wellington entree. All of them were delicious, especially the beef wellington. I highly recommend the cherry dessert (top option on the spring/summer sessert menu). It was really unique and flavorful. Be sure to grab some photos on the patio at sunset too! read more

The host who greeted us was very kind and accommodating, making sure we got the table I preferred. That was a nice start to the evening. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience did not live up to the reputation or the price point. I travel extensively around the world and the U.S., and I dine often at high-end restaurants, so I consider myself someone with a refined palate. With that in mind, I found Goldmoore to be very overrated. My sea bass was very average--the sauce had clashing flavors that simply did not work together. Their signature Beef Wellington, which should have been the highlight, was disappointing as well. Even the vegetables in the medley had a strange aftertaste, almost as if one of them--or the garlic--was spoiled. Service was also underwhelming. Our server didn't explain the dishes, didn't check in to ask how things were, and the food took far too long to arrive. For a restaurant of this level, that's unacceptable. Dessert was the final letdown. It had a cheap taste and even some crusty, stale-like bits that reminded me of eating a cracker past its freshness. For a $200 bill, I expected much higher quality. My friend and I both agreed that we would have enjoyed a simple burger and fries in downtown Galena much more. Overall, the atmosphere and the host were nice, but the food and service fell far below the standard of a fine dining restaurant. Sadly, I was not impressed and would not return. read more

Upscale restaurant with great views of the "Old Man" the mighty Miss We showed up 1/2 hr early for our resy on a busy 4th of July weekend. We were told our table wasn't quite ready, since we were early we planned on going to the bar 1st anyway. We decided to try the rooftop outdoor area. It was sooooo hot with no breeze & no shade as the sun was setting, but it was beautiful. We waited a little past when our resy was scheduled for our table, & we were seated in the front smaller dining room by a window (which is the nicer room) Bread & drinks came out & were good We ordered 2 dinners to share, the Beef Wellington & the Scallops. The Scallops was only 3 decent sized scallops that were good not great, with a few veggies (beets & carrots). If that was all I ordered I would've left hungry. For $49 probably should be 5 or 6 or throw in another side. We ordered the Wellington medium, she would've like to order med/rare, but I convinced her med would have a red center. it came out med/well with absolutely no red inside. That ruined it for my wife, so she took 1 bite & ate the Scallops & I was left to eat the dry boring Beef for $60 I know we should've sent it back or complained but that's definitely not our style. We also tried a raspberry ganache with a few little cookies in it (pictured) it was small but pretty good. This is out in the country south of Galena with a great view overlooking the Mississippi River. It's also an Inn. Our group of 9 had a private dining room, so we could be noisy! The restaurant had a warm and comfortable feel to it with a feeling of luxury. The menu and service is terrific and everyone should find something they would enjoy. We ordered everything from Porterhouse to Prawns. The drinks were good and so were the desserts. This is casual enough to just stop for a meal or a place to celebrate something special. Amazing dining experience! There Goldmoor restaurant is a MUST VISIT if you are in Galena. Beautiful panoramic views of the Mississippi, creative dishes that are delicious, and the immense pride of ownership are evident. I have been here a couple times now when visiting Galena. The property is in the outskirts of Galena but is gorgeous and same with the restaurant area. The owner always gratuitously visits each table at least 2-3 times who makes you feel welcome which is a nice touch. The waitress both times was attentive. The French music is an interesting touch. The beef Wellington was really good and the cocktails were good but be prepared to spend a lot of money here (but it's well worth it for that special occasion). read more

What an amazing experience! The Chef's table is a must. A beautiful table fit for a king, in the kitchen. You get to see and experience the mastery of watching the Chef and his team, and all the smells along with it! We loved the food so much we returned to sit in the main dining a second night. Service was a little slower, but the amazing staff made up for it by keeping us informed and with conversation and positive vibes. The gnocchi was totally unexpected flavor with amazing ingredients. The Wellington was perfection. On night 2, the summer salad was so good I could have had more of that for my full dinner... and the cherry decadence was totally unexpected decliousness. read more

Galena isn't known as a foodie destination, but my sister in law found this place online and based on the menu and reviews, we decided to try it. I'd give this place 3.5 stars. Their website says they have a dress code, no shorts, etc. but a few people were wearing shorts and t-shirts so no need to dress up even though this is a fine dining restaurant. We were early for our reservation so we sat in the bar area and had a cocktail. They have a very small but decent wine list, limited bourbon selection, but lots of other spirits. The cocktails were just ok. The server, owners, and all other employees were very friendly. 5 stars for the service! They didn't have any specials the evening we went. They have a smallish menu but everything we tried was very good. We had the salmon tartare and burrata appetizers, both good but the salmon was excellent. For our entrees, we had the beef Wellington, great, lamb chops, terrific, and scallops, very good. The only problem we had with the food was the fact that the scallops entree only came with 3 scallops. For a main, the number of scallops we've had at other fine dining restaurants has been 6. At $43, they should serve more than 3! read more

The grounds where the Goldmoor resides are breathtaking and beautiful. Was a joy to sit and look out at the birds and beautiful scenery The food was great. I had the scallops as my entree and however they were prepared was amazing. Tasty and nice presentation The spinach salad was good too. I still don't know what made the slight crunch each time I took a bite but it was good and made it fun to eat Steak was good as was the asparagus The food was originally brought out not as ordered so had to be replated making me think our food was tossed around a lot. My sons reserved a room here for our 50 th wedding anniversary. We were treated very well. The owners each would visit to make sure our needs were met. Our 3 year old grandson was loaned a miniature train to play with. Our waitress was timely and conscious of potential needs. Food was delicious. Nice selection of wines. The ambiance is good and I was told they have plans for enhancing the outside in the future. Great dining experience to celebrate a special time. read more

Had dinner for 6 at the chef's table in the kitchen. The owners were so incredibly welcoming in greeting our group at the door! Chef Brandon was very polite and hospitable while we asked questions throughout our meal despite being busy throughout dinner. Kitchen was incredibly clean and staff was on point from our server Dale to the owners stopping by to check on us throughout our meal. We ordered from the current seasonal menu (chicken, salmon (pictured), wagyu beef and steaks for entrees). All of the dishes were beautiful, hot and perfectly prepared and the flavors blended so well together. Highly recommend. My husband and I have been to The Goldmoor Inn to dine several times and it is always amazing. We recently had our wedding reception there and it was beyond all expectations. Birgit and Slobo were so helpful and made sure that every detail was perfect. The location is so beautiful and the room setup was exactly what we wanted. A phenomenal dining experience!!!! First, the atmosphere is intimate, the views are spectacular and the music, that of a french bistro, is romantic and soothing. My girlfriend and I began with the Beet and Citrus salad and the Prosciutto Toast. Both were fantastic. My girlfriend had the Peri Peri Chicken which was beautifully presented and was the finest chicken dish I have ever tasted. My filet mignon was great and the au poivre based sauce, which herb oil, was spectacular. The service was great and not rushed. The owner frequently visited the table checking on our experience. If you are thinking of visiting Galena Illinois you must visit this treasure. I know we will be back....soon. read more

We went here last night for our anniversary expecting a first class restaurant experience based on the reviews and prices. The restaurant was fairly quiet when we got there. However, we waited almost 15 minutes until our waitress came over to take our drink order. As the evening progressed the restaurant became busier. The problem we had is that the poor waitress had absolutely no help from the owners/managers who were standing around. At one point, one of the owners came by our table and we ordered another drink from him. Instead of getting it himself, he told the waitress who had to make it herself. The food is outstanding and the waitress was hard working. She was friendly and seemed to be doing everything herself except for the cooking. Obviously, they are short handed as most places are at this time. We left knowing we will never visit this restaurant again. There are way too many other options in the area that appreciate their customers. read more
