Peppermint Martini

The location is a cute corner bar in the DeSoto hotel. We came for a late-ish dinner on a Friday night and they offered the menu for Green Street Tavern AND the General's Restaurant (lower level of DeSoto). Peppermint martinis were the featured drink, we each started with one and enjoyed them! My husband and I each ordered steaks from the General's menu and they were delicious! Service was unfortunately not the best but the food, well made drinks, and beautiful views were still all "worth it" in our opinion. We will definitely return

We had a beyond delightful lunch at the tavern yesterday. Our waitress was soooo nice and attentive, and kept making sure we have everything we needed. The tavern is attached to the hotel and is absolutely gorgeous inside. If you're in Galena for the day, I def recommend stopping in and getting something. My coffee was nice and strong, and the pick me up I needed in my life. I had the turkey ciabatta sandwich and the aioli was beyond delish. The fries are outstanding as well, and you won't go wrong getting them as a side.

Tips & spaetzle

Went here on a Saturday night for dinner. The place wasn't overly busy, so it was nice to get to choose where we wanted to sit. Our server was quick to come get our order and was overall pretty laid back. We ended up getting the tips & spaetzle and the shrimp po boy. The spaetzle was completely adequate and the beef tips had a rich flavor. I can see why it's a house specialty as something you don't see on most menus. The po boy was fine, but I wouldn't say an authentic one. The filling to bun ratio was also a little off. I was excited to see that the sweet potato fries were waffle fries and they had a nice crisp to them. Overall, the service was good, food was fine, but the price for the food was a little too high for what you got. The tips and spaetzle I understand the price, but the shrimp po boy was at least $3 too much for what you got.

The Green Street Tavern & Restaurant is beautiful however I would not advise eating there in the summertime. We have been by the DeSoto House many times and always talked about eating there so we were glad when they had a reservation open on our most recent trip. The food was ok but we were all so grossed out by the number of flies everywhere including in our face and landing on our plates, we just couldn't really eat it. They were killing flies all over the place, using their hands (yes we watched a staff member clap her hands kill a fly and continue on), a server used a pamphlet to kill a fly on the wall then picked the squished fly off the wall and throw it away, they were using a fly swatter in the room with all the condiments in it then they hung it back on the wall. I asked if it was normal for them to have so many flies and was told "Oh yeah, last summer they were even worse." The service was good the food came out in a timely manner and was plated very pretty is all I can tell you.

Great appetizers. Beautiful salads. Fun cocktails. Lovely staff. A great club sammy. Unfortunately the salmon burger was not very good. If you can sit in jessa's section you should

DELICIOUS pulled pork quesadilla

This was just right. Nice bar in a historical building! Casual. Drinks are kind of expensive but good. We had beer and martinis. For food, the DeSoto Hotel has this restaurant as casual and General's for more upscale. Kind of neat! Same kitchen. We just ordered appetizers and had delicious pulled pork quesadillas, friend cheese curds, and wings. All very good and would get them again! Oh! We also had a cup of the blue-cheese soup! Yum! And dessert, a raspberry cheesecake! Again, delicious! Service was good, very friendly staff! And clean. Looking forward to going back!

The morning of, we noticed the weather was perfect and asked to move our reservation outside and they happily accommodated us with no problem. They started us off with chips and pico de gallo. I asked for extra salsa roja and salsa verde. The pico had a nice kick, the roja had a smoky flavor, and the verde was more on the roasted side. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of the verde, which was a bummer since it's usually my favorite. The chunky guac, though, was a solid 10/10. The margarita flights were 30% off, so that was an easy choice. Tons of flavor options to pick from, which was fun. For my main, I went with the Suizo burrito topped with melted Chihuahua cheese. I didn't love it -- maybe I'm spoiled living in the Quad Cities where we've got incredible Mexican spots on every corner. Something about it just felt a little off. To top it off, we were constantly swatting away flies at our table, which didn't help. Still, the service was great and our server was super friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a good dinner, and I'd definitely go back... just to try something different next time.

Los Aztecas II has about what to expect as far as strip mall ethnic cuisine it seems. About as forgettable as many others like it. The prices are also high for basic things. Coming here the first time it looked like another basic Americanized Mexican restaurant with expected items. It's got plenty of seating. There's way more than enough because it was almost empty on a weekend. As for the menu it's basic. The prices are too high for this. It's about $15 to get a margarita. They have a few flavors including mango and watermelon. It's about $18 for an entree. We each got the Create Your Own Veggie Combo, which is a choice of a couple items. Beans are okay and not made with animal fat. We got these with a bean burrito and a bean taco. It was a gas but not right away. The rest of the menu features familiar items like fajitas and stuff. Got to say it was okay as far as flavor. It's located in Galena Square. This is close to the state's only Piggly Wiggly.

I felt compelled to leave this review because exceptional service like hers deserves to be recognized. From the moment we sat down, Lexi was attentive, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. She had an answer to every single question we asked -- not just about the menu, but about the business itself. She knew so much about Bread & Vine that I genuinely thought she might be the owner. That level of pride and understanding is rare and speaks volumes about her professionalism. What really stood out was how accommodating and engaging she was. She made thoughtful recommendations, not only for food and drinks, but also for other places to visit and things to do around Galena. It truly elevated our entire experience. Because of her suggestions and the way she described everything so well, we ended up ordering (and purchasing) more than we originally planned -- simply because we trusted her recommendations. Lexi is the kind of employee every business hopes to have. She represents Bread & Vine with confidence, warmth, and expertise. She absolutely deserves recognition -- and in my opinion, a raise -- for the way she goes above and beyond for guests. I hope she sees this and I hope this reaches someone as important as her. I would recommend making reservations as it was consistently busy. We opted for seats at the bar to avoid an hour wait. This place is tiny, so it would not be ideal for large groups. It would be difficult to accommodate someone who could not navigate stairs (there are both stairs to enter as well as a staircase for most of the dining space). Servers were friendly and helpful, the right amount of attentive. The food came out quickly. They offer light lunch, brunch, breakfast fare, with specials, and baked goods from Lola. A popular special is a homemade pop tart, which has rotating flavors (today was blueberry with lemon frosting). We opted for French Toast, pork belly, and the country skillet. Everything was delicious and portions were generous. All around a great find.
