This is the restaurant inside Chestnut Mountain Resort. We ate here twice, as Galena, the nearest town with other breakfast options is a 20-minute drive. As someone who is a vegetarian and has to eat gluten-free for medical reasons, my options were pretty limited. The first day I got the vegetarian omelette, which came with fruit and toast. I couldn't eat the toast, and the honeydew melon was off. I ate the omelette and the watermelon/cantaloupe. The next day I just got two fried eggs, and they were cooked as I requested. But I just couldn't get enough calories, as I chose to pass on the fruit. I did order orange juice to get more calories, and that was good. My husband and kid liked their meals, pretty basic breakfast fare of toast, eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The hostess and waiters did not wear masks. The bus staff did. We wore our masks, as only indoor seating was offered, but no other patrons wore masks. Our waitress Robbyn was lovely. read more

The service was not up to par. I waited at the check in desk for about 10 minutes and within that time I've seen what looks like managers (because they had a different colored shirt than the rest of staff) and employees passing by. One even looked at me straight to my face and walked away like whattt loll if ya busy I get it, but there were max 3-4 tables occupied. I didn't end up waiting and walked out. read more

The waitress was very rude and made us come back to the front of the empty restaurant to be seated. When we arrived there was no one by the door to greet us. We had to leave the table to be seated rather than the waitress just getting us menus. Very strange since there were many tables with only four being used at the time. It made us feel very unwelcome. Just like everywhere right now, they are short-staffed and I just wanted to say that everyone from the hostess to the bartender to the waitstaff was wonderful. The food was good and the buffet was easy. We went for a long ski weekend with our kids. So fun! read more

If you are out on the "mountain", this is a great spot to grab a drink, nosh a bit on bar food, take in the beautiful view and even watch a game. While this eatery doesn't really stand out as far as grills go, the view does. read more

Five star.. You're in the middle of nowhere skiing in Illinois on the banks of the Mississippi River. Only game in town! Keep in mind that the closest competitor has a steel pole building with hot coco, hotdogs etc. The food is good, respectable service. Relatively simple, a step above bar food. Everything I've tried has been good. Great selection of beer. Half a dozen Tv's. Best place to eat on the mountain. read more

The view was gorgeous but that's about it. We ordered the nacho steak platter and the steak was cold. The cheese was not good and the it was all so tasteless. My son ordered the Mac and cheese and it looked as if it was just reheated. I would have sent it back if I wasn't SO darn hungry!!! I dined here with my husband and friends for a ski trip. First off the waitress overcharge us for our meal. Then when they went to correct the total they LOST our credit card!!! They didn't apologize at all and didn't have any explanation as to why/how they lost our credit card. THEN they decided to give us a $20 gift card to make up for the inconvenience of losing our credit card... like we would EVER dine there again. So lesson learned don't come here unless you want to be credit card less. read more

Came here a while back while staying in downtown Galena. I had not been to Chestnut Mountain in ages and had only come here in the Winters for snow skiing. The space is very nice w. requisite ski lodge look and feel, much different perspective w. no snow but still nice when looking out of the floor to ceiling windows, allowing for sweeping views of the rolling hills of Galena and the mighty Mississippi River. The food was just ok. We ordered the Steak Nachos which came with a white Nacho cheese sauce, I think a shredded cheese combination would have been better tasting and more appropriate but that's me. Pulled pork sandwich was fairly standard and rounded out a decent meal, nothing remarkable save for the views. read more

Came here in the afternoon during summer season, sat at the bar. Younger male bartender doesn't even address us. Other people who came after us were adressed right away, and he walked around, glanced at us a few times, and finally came to us after 20 mins. There were hardly any people at the bar either. Came back again for dinner around 7:30pm, with only 4 tables at the time. Hostess sat us by the window, bus boy brings out water right away. After 25 mins of being seated, no waiter/waitress comes to us....and FOR SURE they knew we were there. All the tables sat in the same area and they were being waited on so they saw us. My boyfriend and I, again, get the glances from them like "what are they doing here". It's not even busy, workers are just talking and walking around, so why was it so hard to come take our orders and ask if we wanted to drink anything else besides water? I was so fed up with such behavior and NON-EXISTENT service, so I walked out....not gonna spend my money here and having to beg waiters/waitress for their service.....RIDICULOUS! read more

Stopped for breakfast Sunday morning. Greeted by a really unfriendly hostess/waitress? Showed us to our table and promptly left. Ok cool we'll wait for waitress. And wait. And wait. Until one of us got up to ask what the deal was. Looked like a breakfast buffet going on but got regular menus with no mention of a buffet. Finally a staff member came over and claimed she was just about to come see us. And sorry, but they're really busy. (A quarter of the restaurant was full). Ok. We'll do the buffet. Food was good -hence 3 star review -with scrambled eggs, hash brown, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and French toast and sausage and bacon. Food was good. All staff looked miserable. We stood at the Chestnut Resort for the weekend last week and while we waited for my brother to arrive, we had a few drinks here and old my god, I had the best Bloody Mary ever! Not just one but two. My husband had a few Rum and Cokes and they were very good also. Our bartender was very nice and helpful. Place is very clean and large screen TV's. A nice fire place and just a good time! read more

The female Manager is horrific!!!! Terrible customer service skills. Haven't been back for a year, stopped in to give another try. Same bad service.....waitresses stand around, had to beg for our check. Rooms are still filthy and moldy smelling......total dump!!! read more

Great view of the Mississippi and grounds. We were sat right away and given water right away. After about 10 minutes we had to flag down a server. Nice beer menu but the food was awful. BBQ tasted canned , pizza was blah and cheesecake was awful. Go for the views & beer, eat before. read more

If I could give 0 I would! The worst $100 I have spent on food! The food is something you would expect at a run down bar in the middle of nowhere. Even the cheese on the burger was hard like it was sitting in the back of a freezer. Our waitress took the cost of the cheese off our bill, which was $3 for 1 slice of cheese!!! read more

I've eaten a number of times at The Summit, or just had a beer while soaking up the apres ski ambiance during winter. It's never been terribly crowded, and service at the bar was quick and friendly. The menu is a fairly standard pub menu with appetizers, sandwiches ,salads and burgers. Nothing really stands out except to say that I think their black and blue burger is the best burger I've had in Galena. The meat tastes absolutely fresh. It is done as requested (in my case medium rare.) There are some restaurants who will cook a burger no less than medium. So I appreciate their indulgence. The beer choices are just right with about ten different brews on tap and bottled choices, too. Whether you're participating or not in skiing or other activities, its a nice scenic trip out here from Galena, and you can't beat the views of The Mississippi once you arrive. It's like a little "daycation." I'm hungry for that burger now. read more

The service here was absolutely terrible. We were seated and waited 10 minutes before a busboy gave us water. We watched our waiter walk around looking bored before finally acknowledging us 15 minutes after being seated. He demanded our order without even asking how we were. We stopped him and asked if he would be able to turn on a TV and he told us he was "too busy", even though the place was practically empty. He never checked on us, we waited another 10 minutes after we finished our food for the bill, and ended up having to bring it to the hostess to pay since our waiter continued to ignore us. This service seemed consistent throughout the restaurant, as we watched another waitress roll her eyes and give some serious attitude to the table next to us. Nice classy place. Tenderloins were large, not thick, tasty. Fries were great. Chicken salad sandwich was yummy. Horseradish burger was good but not as spicy as was expected. Large beer on tap list and nice wine list. Would go again, the winding road to get there is from the 50's. read more

Awesome atmosphere! Located directly on the banks of the Mississippi River, the view couldn't be better. It has a Colorado "Lodge" feel to it. The food and drink selection is great. Lots of TV's to watch the game. Fun place to eat and drink even if you're not skiing. read more
