The not so good; this place is really filthy. Bales of dust & hair are everywhere underneath dumbell racks, around the bases of machines and on the bottom of lockers. Kind of gross. Each day around 3 the sun hits the nearby bank skylights and sends a retina-searing, lincoln arc welder-like white light into the space. Really difficult to see with the blinding solar glare - but what you do see is every spec of dust/hair/detrius on the floor, on machines, etc.. I realize he light thing is not their fault but maybe get some glare screens for the windows? Lastly, it's cramped - tons of machines but not a lot of space around them to work out comfortably, you are really on top of each other. The gym has great potential though & I hope that they improve!

This is the largest, sandy beach on Acadia. I did not see a lifeguard when I came so be aware when swimming. Sometimes they are not present. You do have to go down stairs to get here. There is parking or you can come in the Island Shuttle that stops here. Then at night, on Sundays and Wednesdays, weather permitting, the Park Rangers put on an excellent Stargazing program to do. I came and really enjoyed it. But dress warm, bring chairs or a blanket to sit on. Whether you are visiting day or night, this beach does not disappoint !

We weren't prepared to go swimming but we still walked the beach and took some pictures. A lot of people were there to swim and it was pretty crowded. The air was chilly so I was surprised how many people were swimming but maybe the water was warm. I didn't notice lifeguards but there was a park ranger circulating. Plus bathrooms and changing rooms up top. At night they had a stargazing program here which we came back for which was ranger led and honestly one of my favorite memories of the trip.

We had a short visit to the park to check things out - it's interesting as there are limesone furnaces made of stack granite that still exist behind the park. Seems in the past raw limestone was delivered to the furnaces to "cook" so it would break down into lime (which has various uses, especially for the creation of powdered concrete). The park is fairly small but has some nice views if you're into the water and nautical vessels. There's also a carving of "Andre the Seal" for those interested - supposed to be a children's book but I'm not familiar with it. Not much hiking to be done in the park itself but a nice, fairly quiet place to stop and perhaps eat a bagged lunch.

They also have a great front area that my almost 5 year old stays and colors/has her ipad she can occupy herself. This Crossfit "box" ( ie gym) has it's act together…read more Located on a long, meandering hill outside Ellsworth, Crossfit Acadia's physical presence is small. The light blue pole building is as unassuming as most Crossfit boxes are. What makes this place special are the people who enter its doors. Owners Nick and Ursula both welcomed me, a travelling stranger, as warmly as all their local athletes. Both have a heart for Crossfit - both in the mechanics of doing tough workouts well and in building the sense of community that can really set this style of fitness apart from almost all others. Crossfit is tough. Sometimes very tough. To quote Crossfit Manayunk's video (search it on youtube): "sometimes you will give 110% and it just won't be enough". I have no doubt that at this box the trainers would be right there with you. Nobody is left to flounder here. I've never had a bad visit to a box but I can honestly say that my exploration of Crossfit Acadia was one of the best. The physical establishment is appealing (how do they fit so many Concept 2 rowers in that small space?), the coaches skilled and the customer/athletes friendly and welcoming. Humans of any fitness level can benefit from Crossfit and if you are fortunate enough to live within driving distance of this affiliate - I highly recommend you consider stopping by. Do it and you will never be mediocre again!

It's the perfect combination of heat, challenging poses, deep stretches, and guided breathing exercises. Natasha is the regular teacher for this class and she is an amazing teacher. Highly highly recommend if you are new to yoga or an experienced yogi.
