So few gyms are willing to stand up to the obnoxious "influencers" who bring tripods and cameras to record themselves. They completely change the atmosphere of a gym. They monopolize equipment while waiting for the perfect shot, record people who never agreed to be on camera without asking permission or blurring faces, and some even mock other members who are simply there to work out. Personally, I'd be fine with gyms banning filming altogether. That said, most people who occasionally record a set are respectful and considerate of those around them. The real problem is the small group of self-absorbed "influencers" who ruin the experience for everyone else. This Gold's Gym deserves a lot of credit for taking a stand. They removed one of these obnoxious, narcissistic "influencers" after her disruptive behavior while filming. They should be applauded for making the **vast majority** of lifters feel like their gym experience matters more than someone's social media content. The next time I'm in Citrus Heights, I'll absolutely buy a day pass and work out here. They deserve the business for doing what so many lifters wish every gym would do. read more

This gym is dependable and well run. The hours are consistent, the staff is professional, and there's a good variety of machines for any training style. The space is organized, and parking is easy. Like most gyms, it gets busy during peak hours, so coming earlier or later makes workouts smoother. Restroom cleanliness can be an improvement but overall it's a solid gym that supports focused, efficient training, where everyone minds their own business. read more

This gym is always focused on bringing the best and new equipment for its members, they have some of the best stuff around. The staff is very friendly and helpful. From the first time I came here they have definitely improved the layout and equipment. I like that they have heavier dumbbells than most gyms, and a tucked away stretching/turf area where some gyms have the big turf area going on right in the middle of the gym. Wish they had a sauna but everything else they have going on is perfect so I don't mind too much about that. Reasonably priced as well. read more

I have lived and trained in some of the biggest cities in the world - Paris, Shanghai, New York City, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro - and I travel abroad frequently. I have always sought out the best gyms in those places, and I have never in my life seen a gym with this level of brand‑new, modern equipment and this much attention to member experience. There are multiple options for every movement, so I never wait in line for a machine, the space has plenty of people but never feels overcrowded, and it truly has everything I need for both strength training and cardio. Even the famous Gold's Gym in Los Angeles does not compare; this facility is far better. The only 'wish list' item I could imagine would be a dry sauna, and I would happily pay more for that, but even without it this is an exceptional gym in every way - equipment, space, and overall training environment. read more

It was just ok. The vibe wasn't what I was expecting since this was my first experience at a Gold's gym. The guy at the counter wasn't particularly nice but wasn't rude. At first I thought it was part of the brand. I don't know what I was expecting. Maybe I watched too many videos of Arnold in his prime. The equipment was in decent shape. The place was clean. Everyone there was in their own little world which isn't a bad thing. I just wouldn't consider this a candidate for a home gym for me though. read more

I went to Gold's Gym in Citrus Heights today with my family to check the gym out and do a day pass. From the start, the front desk employee's mood was really bad and he was talking to us super dry. There were six of us and asked if we all were going to do the same thing and when we said yes he literally said, "oh f***, alright" which was a pretty unnecessary and unprofessional response. He then told us we all needed our IDs and had to fill out the form online, but the way he said it was really rude, like he was annoyed that we even came in as a group. Then while we were filling everything out, he kept telling us to get out of the way because other people were trying to sign in, once again in a dry and rude way instead of just being polite about it. Even after all that, we were still willing to work out, but then he was like okay who's done with their stuff and we said some of us were and he just said okay well then it's going to be $20 for each of you by the way, but he said it in such a rude way that we just decided to leave. It honestly felt like he didn't want us there at all. Really disappointing experience and would leave 0/5 stars if possible as this was not what you'd expect when trying go to this for the first time after hearing all the hype. Unfortunate. read more

A group of six of us came in looking forward to trying a new gym and it looked really nice in the pictures so went for a day pass and off the bat the front desk guy was rude and hostile. Best equipment Great staff The gym is set up according to muscle group so it's convenient to do supersets or train with friends. I love that the cardio room is at the back of the club so if you're on a stair climber, there's no one behind you checking out the booboo. This gym is honestly my favorite ever. It feels like a fitness playground for anyone who loves getting stronger. It has so many benches, a Swiss bar, a whole variety of bars, all the cable machines you could want, and so many unique machines. There are five squat racks with mirrors, two smith machines, a cute stretching area, and a really good cardio section. And it's always super clean. It basically has everything except a pool and a sauna, but honestly, who even needs those? After 15 years of going to gyms, this is the best one I've ever joined. ‍ read more

I recently tagged along with my friend from a guest pass and I have to say. I was impressed. The equipment is in great condition and everything looked new. The best part? Not a single machine was out of order. The locker rooms are very spacious and clean. Even as a guest, I felt totally at home (even for my first time), and the vibe here is super motivating. I could definitely see this place getting busy on peak hours, but in the morning when we went, there was plenty for us to do without having to wait in line. I've been a member at this gym for over 7 years now. I will start by saying the equipment is the best in the area. The gym is a decent size, but when its busy...good luck finding a machine or any room to do anything. The front desk staff is usually friendly. Majority of the time they just talk to each other or sit on their phones. I have seen management handle some things unethically, but it never affected me so I didn't think twice about it. Then my mom was injured. Not the gyms fault. She tripped over a mat someone left out and went face first into the ground. Multiple people came to help her. One of the gentleman even called 911 for her. She was gushing blood and my mom is in her 60s. Bless this man! Until someone who I later found out was the owner told the man to hang up the phone because it was just a cut on her nose. However, he never asked my mom if she did or did not in fact want 911 to be called. The owner didn't offer to do anything. They never even asked her to make an incident report. Fast forward 6 days later when I am back in town, my mom fills me in on this and needless to say I am livid. She still hadn't been checked out because she wasn't sure if she should see her own doctor or not. She called the gym and asked for the insurance information and the manager's response was that he wasn't going to give it and her insurance will have to deal with their insurance or her attorney will have to call their attorney. Attorney? She called him back that day and explained that she just wants to see a doctor since she is still in pain. He said he was taking his lunch break and would call her back. So we both drove to the gym and asked to speak with him. Any question I asked I received the same answer, "I will call later with the insurance information. You will have to talk to them." I asked why she wasn't asked to fill out an incident report and he said his staffed filled it out. I asked to see it, got the insurance answer. I asked if this was how he always treated members who got hurt at his gym and got the same insurance answer. Then he said that he sent the incident report and surveillance to the insurance company today and they have what they need. Not 15 minutes after we left the gym and cancelled our memberships, he called my mom with their insurance infortmation. He also added that he thinks because of the Holidays they must be busy because he hasn't been able to speak with anyone. Oh but I thought you already spoke to them and gave them everything? I will not support a business like this EVER! *responding to the owner's response My mom did not decline. The owner said 911 wasn't needee because it was just a scratch. We have already talked to the witnesses. Also, it was another gym member who went to the front desk and asked for the first aid. When he did ask for it, the person at the front desk asked twice what it was before until he would actually give it to him. You can review surveillance that has no audio, but I have talked to almost everyone that was actually their and believe 4 people saying the same story over one person trying to make themselves look good. Also, this should have all been taken care of the same day. An incident report signed by both my mom and the staff working should have been completed. If 911 was cancelled, my mom should have been asked if she still wanted to be seen by a doctor. Her rehab was for her total shoulder replacement surgery she had 6 months later and she made it known she was worried about this fall affecting her shoulder. We can go back and forth all day, but your business should have handled things better and more professionally from the start. Then none of this would have been an issue. read more

So many great workouts , memories, and friends made at Golds gym over the years. Gold's gym's equipment has likely the best selection for most people - in a very wide radius. It's clean inside, machines are all very well maintained and typically lubed well (something that is not the case at a ton of gyms), and you can count on there being lots of perfectly working cardio equipment. New machines are been being added every few or handful of months, many of them in high demand with the times/trends (like Seal Row Bench, Pendulum squat, etc). You usually don't have to wait (long) for equipment. Many (perhaps most?) people are kind and understanding and are cool with others "working in" when asked respectfully. I've been coming since they first opened nearly 10 years ago. David and Jerry, Ownership/management have done an excellent job at making this a reliable, great gym to train at for all of these years - always improving it via layout, machine selection, and by adding pieces of equipment like speciality handles and bars. Though i live closer to several other gyms, I typically find myself always programming at least a few sessions per week at Golds gym, (especially for certain machines that the other gyms don't have). Many times throughout the years, I've trained solely at Golds, despite having 3-4 other gym memberships running simultaneously. Unless I move out of the area, I'll likely continue to stay at Golds Gym member for the foreseeable future! read more

NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY ESTABLISHMENT. My son is homeschooled and the staff demanded a school ID to workout. I explained he was homeschooled and does not go to traditional school therefore does not have a school ID. My son who is 14 meets a friend here to workout once a week ( I pay for a day pass $15 ). The staff also told me that unless I'm working out I can't even wait in the waiting area for my son. This week I brought my daughter with me to do homework in the car while we wait for my son and the staff told me due to my daughters age she would be unable use the restroom because she was 12. Pretty sad when they won't let a little girl use a restroom. We have traveled to almost every state in the US and have gone to dozens of gyms and this is by far the most unfriendly gym I have ever encountered in my opinion. . We have 5 gym memberships in Northern California and I'm thankful this is not one of them. **RESPONSE TO OWNER** The staff did not give me the option to provide a birth certificate. I have paid for a day pass every time we were at this facility. The gym owner states that the gym does not have a waiting area., but I consider the reception area a common area/waiting area, which is not part of the equipment area. I would have been happy waited there and would have not entered the equipment area, but just watched through the windows. Your staff asked if I was going to work out and I responded no, so they told me I could not be in the facility. I was never given the option to pay the day pass fee of 15 dollars to watch my son from the gym floor. I would have done that if given the option. When we arrived my daughter had to go to the restroom and I did stop at the front desk to check in as she walked to the restroom. When your staff asked the age of my daughter I stated she was 12 and he told me she could not be in the equipment area. I told the staff she was going to use the restroom and not be on the equipment floor or workout. The staff then told me well because she is 12 she cant even use the restroom. So I immediately told my son to go retrieve my daughter. So she did not use the restroom as she was headed back there and my son texted her that she needed to come out because she could not use the restroom. She did make it to the restroom, but didn't go because your staff told me she couldn't. So I did take immediate action to retrieve my daughter by sending my son to get her. DEFLECTING BLAME AND TRYING TO PAINT A CUSTOMER AS NON COMPLIANT IS REDICOULOUS. There is no signage stating someone under the age of 13 who is there with a paying customer can not use your restroom. The only part of your response I do agree with is your assertation that its for the best we don't have a membership here. read more

Was in the area for a bodybuilding competition for one of my clients and found this gym was only 8 mins away, stopped in and got a great leg day in, different machines that I've only seen in pictures on the internet, got a really good pump legs are hurting and will be back for an Upperbody today tomorrow once think that I've seen and was excited about was the 100lbs Plates and the kilo plates! Usually I never leave reviews but I thought it would be a good way to make things right. Thing is I had an argument with the guy who turned out to be the owner. I've been wanting to meet him to ask who is the bodybuilder with the moustache on the wall is. (Huge bodybuilding fan here!) but I didn't know who he was. Anyways I was arguing with my mom over the phone and because i'm severely hard of hearing, I don't always know how loud I speak. The owner approached me and at first I was upset but he was right. The rules are the rules. So this review is my apology. I've been training at Golds for about 8 months and I absolutely love this gym. It's clean, the staff is nice, always greeting me in & out, the machines are amazing with lots of variety and equipment you don't see often in other gyms. I also made many friends there. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. Never had any issues at this gym. I had my brother sign up for a month, he's travelling from Canada and he was amazed. Just joined and I've only had two workouts here but so far so good! I'm a member at a different gym but really wanted to workout inside because it's way too cold to workout outside right now. So glad Gold's is open! Staff was really nice and let me workout before signing up. After my workout I asked questions about a membership and the staff didn't pressure me at all. They answered all my questions and explained the different membership options. This gym is an amazing price for how nice it is. I was shocked. It's super clean and all the equipment is on the newer side. I'm not sure if this is all the time, but when I was there everyone was serious about working out. No one was putting their stuff on a machine then walking away to talk to someone (one of my biggest gym pet peeves). Everyone just wanted to workout. Perfect! They just have weights and machines and a room that offered group classes pre-pandemic. So no extra frills like a pool or sauna. But it has everything you need! Masks are required, staff are wearing them and so was everyone working out. They're also required on the cardio machines. read more

Hardcore gym! No matter your fitness level this is a great gym. The receptionist gave me a 3day pass to experience the gym, awesome! It was leg day and I was really hoping they had a vertical leg press. To my amazement it's a brand new arsenal strength vertical leg press! 4-5 power squat racks and lots of other machines to torture yourself on leg day. They also had every different barbell and attachment for all exercises and machines. I did 20min cardio post workout and the cardio equipment is all clean and state of the art. Bathrooms are clean and nice Locke room. If I lived in this area I'd definitely sign up. They also had some nice clothes by the entrance. Just cancelled my membership, the guys I workout with here are considering doing the same. We have had multiple problems with Andreas (the guy with the beard who works in the afternoon). What set me off was I came in to bring my 17 Y.O brother to check it out and hopefully get him a membership but couldn't due to him not having I.D. I was told to bring his birth certificate which I got but then couldn't because a parent has to do it. Which I understand they have a policy to uphold but was frustrated that Andreas couldn't and never acknowledges or even looks up at you as you walk in/out of the gym or while you buy items and wasn't very polite while I was trying to figure out their policy on how to bring my brother in and still didn't even look up from his computer once at me. I was able to speak with David regarding the situation, he said he will speak with him which I appreciate and hopefully will retrain him. I'm hoping things will change as I do enjoy their variety of equipment they have and don't want to go gym shopping with my buddies. read more

David, the owner's son, is just another rich kid with a little bit of power. He has zero professionalism or business sense. The other night on a very busy "prime time" evening the gym was packed and there were two young ladies on both the leg press & supersetting with leg extensions. They tied up both machines for over 30 minutes. My fiancé and I have been working out at Gild's for years and never had any problems. My finance is a super heavyweight bodybuilder who politely asked one of the girls how many sets they had left. One responded with six, the other with three. He told one girl it wasn't a good idea to do supersets during busy hours (gym etiquette) Both girls became abruptly rude, name-calling, etc. I asked to work in with one and was told to wait. That "I wasn't going to die if I waited a minute." Once she was finished, I began to load the leg press with a 45 pound plate. This young girl came around the machine and shove me with her shoulder as I was holding the weight. It was offensive contact and completely unnecessary. I immediately brought it to one of the workers attention at the front desk. He said he would look at the tapes. Did you change your story and said the manager would look at the tapes and have David call me. After several days and no call from David. I telephone him. He said I wasn't shoved by anyone. He basically accused me of lying. He claimed he watch the tape, but I was never touched. I told him I had witnesses and I wasn't making it up. David was unprofessional and took a biased approach. Bottom line, guess it's acceptable to commit assault and battery by shoving & pushing people while holding a 45lb weight in their hand? One would think that would be unacceptable behavior in an environment such as a gym. I will be discontinuing my membership with this establishment immediately. My fiancé who is a competitor is also canceling his membership. Update: 10/22/18 after much convincing from my daughter, my fiancé, and Joe who works/ manages the front desk at Golds.. who I have seen outside the gym and who is a great guy...I deleted my review and went into Golds this morning to rejoin again and put the past behind us. Overall the gym has great equipment, but not the best reputation by David.. but I was willing to try again. Upon our arrival Joe asked I talk to David (owner's son). David approached me and was agitated and immediately started accusing me of "lying" about the events that happened a year ago. He obviously held a grudge wanted to argue. He immediately said "I lied and made it up". He also added that I was a horrible person. He was very mad, unprofessional, and shaking as he spoke. He said "get outta here" and added my daughter was a horrible person too. Hmmmmm He denied there was anything on film again and that my fiancé didn't see anything that day either. My fiancé immediately responded, "dude I saw the whole thing, it happened". Either way... we werent there to rehash it or argue, we were there to call a truce and move on. David, I know your reading this. I have absolutely NO reason to lie about the events that happened in your gym. You have turned this into a WAY WAY bigger deal then it ever had to be. I'm a grown women, so I'm not sure if you can't admit what happened due to liability reasons or your cameras showed a different angle? But I have witnesses and it happened. You, as a manager of your father's gym, should have stayed neutral, validated the events.. and at least acted professional. Instead you have INSISTED it never happened, insisted I'm lying and making it up, and now added I'm a horrible person and so is my daughter??? I don't have time in my life to make up stupid scenarios David. All you had to due is say "hey I didn't see it happen but I believe you and we will talk to that other person". I've been working out here for a little over two years. I love the variety of machines and there's plenty of room in the free weight area. I love that there's 5 squat racks too. I typically go in the early morning so it may be different in the afternoon. My only concern is the lack of members not wearing face masks. There are signs stating they require face masks at all times but a majority of people do not follow the rule. One Saturday I counted 10 people who had no mask on. There have been a couple times where I asked someone not to stand near where I was working out because they weren't wearing a mask or I'll move to a different area. I understand if you are doing something strenuous you may need to pull it down for a moment but they should at least put their mask over their mouth and nose while walking through the gym or grabbing different size weights. It's just common decency. I've seen a a few employees walking around asking members to put their mask on but as soon as they are out of sight, the masks comes right off. There needs to be a better way to make others feel safe while working out. read more

Everything is brand new!!! Great gym. Depending if the boss is there or not and which employee is controling the music, great music (personal workout songs will almost always beat radio music). Major pros for me about this place: -Currently there hasn't been much traffic in this place. it's never crowded. I've gone to the gym in the morning, evening and at night. A lot of serious looking athletes here though, I mean these men and women are looking like they are in some sort of competition. Which brings me to my next point. -The folks here all looks like some serious athletes and the equipment absolutely reflects such. Not only every thing is still new and shinny but they have stuff here you won't find at other gyms!! +Colored Plates for the extreme power lifters, the most unique fitness jungle gyms I've seen yet with pull up monkey bars, a bunch of Trx cable systems and a bunch of other stuff I wouldn't know what to call cause I haven't seen. +Heavy Bags!!! not just one or two but at least 10+ of em. And they're not just Heavy Bags they are Muay Thai/kick boxing bags. As someone who used to practice MMA/boxing and really enjoyed it but never got serious about it and so decided a lessons and fees where a little not worth the cost, this gym is a great alternative (minus the coach, but hey youtube, personal exp and common sense is a decent teacher). - I was and still am a big $9.99/month for gym membership guy but for what I'm getting I'll pay the extra $10 (total of $19.99). Actually they have a cheaper membership price starting at $9.99 but the sign up fee was about $50-60 (for my $19.99 its only $9 to sign up) and I'm not planning on staying in this area for this long so all fees would've total to be approximately the same. there's no contract. You can cancel at anytime. won't know if there's actually hassle with that until I get there. I would recommend this gym BUT!!! I like a gym that isn't so crowded, so.... don't come here. read more

Brahs this is a solid bodybuilder gym. If you're looking to do powerlifting stuff, probably not the best place. Staff: Always greets me when I come in, even if I have headphones on. They've always answered any question I've asked. No problems here. Equipment: They got everything you need to hit all body parts. If there's a weakness here, it's the leg area. If you live close-ish to Lincoln, I'd just go to the Fitness System there to train legs. Otherwise, this place is awesome. There's a ton of Hoist machines, easy on the joints and easy to get good contractions. Wide range of dumbbells. I can't remember what they top off at as the most I'm using right now is 100lbs. They have some heavy bags which I've only seen being used once or twice. And one of those times was me smacking it. They have a small sled/turf which is pretty nice as well. Parking isn't the greatest but if that's a big deal to you...then brah.. c'mon. It has been a few months since I've been going here and I'm happy with it. read more
