Hands down the best strongman gym in the country. After years of watching Alan on YouTube I moved to Sac (for other reasons, I'm not that hardcore) and decided to check this place out. I was a skinny dude 5'11 and 155 pounds. Had no idea strongman had weight classes. Talked to Alan, started training (training untamed specifically) and over the last four years I've been welcomed into one of the best communities I've ever been a part of. I came here to check out their strength training class because I know I should strength train. I dreaded it. Fast forward 4 months later and I am still here and loving it. Untamed Strength - Hack squat! - Gyms Near Me - Sacramento, California

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. I am the laziest person ever who was looking for some sort of motivation while not overwhelming myself into quitting. I happened to come across this place and sent a message outlining just how lazy I am (Self awareness is the first step towards recovery, rriiight?) and that I am looking for a slow and deliberate way to get my mobility and strength back and how much I hate, hate, double hate cardio. Alan was quick to respond and we set up a few sessions of personal training. I have only had 8 sessions or so, but the difference in how I feel is worth every penny. Nothing in this world usually motivates me out of bed at 5am, but the sessions with Alan are tailored to my needs, specifically to help with injuries while focusing on strength (and maybe a little cardio). I was intimidated to go to a strongman gym as someone who is completely sedentary, but every person I have encountered is either focused on their own workouts or providing encouragement. My wife and I decided to stop by last weekend as I live about forty five minutes away from Untamed Strength. I've been following Allan's Thrall's YouTube channel for quite some time and wanted to see how things were in person. As we walked in, I immediately felt the amazing environment/vibe. There were people of all ages, genders, sizes working out harmoniously. I was also greeted by a fellow member who was very friendly. Allan was busy coaching a member but he approached me and my wife if we had any questions. I told him I emailed him a few weeks ago about my planned visit and he remembered. I asked to take a picture with him when he was available. I toured the gym and saw all the awesome equipment. I explained to my wife what makes this gym different from normal commercial gyms. I was already a follower of Alan's great YouTube channel . I bought a form check session drove up to Sacramento from the East bay . The drive was totally worth it . Alan is a thorough professional and a great coach . He walked me through all the lifts giving me tips and adjustments . He was kind enough to remember and email me the steps as well . Best free weight gym in town. I was looking to get back into the iron game of squat, press and deadlifts and had a great coaching sessions with the owner Alan. Learned a lot and the gym has a good positive energy. If you are looking to do or learn squats, deadlifts or anything this place is it! Most gyms may have a single squat rack but you cannot use chalk there. I love the chalk bowls and wide range of quality free weights and also lots of great machines like Free Motion and Hammer Strength that you do not see in most commercial globo gyms. Plus they have strongman training classes if you are into that sort of thing. read more

The owner is extremely personable and is passionate about his business. That's directly reflected in how diverse andwell maintained the gym is. If you are into weight training, powerlifting, and fitness without all of the frills of a commercial gym and with all of the nuances that comes with a gym geared towards raw training than this is the place for you. There are multiple deadlifting platforms that offer a variety of deadlift variations. An equal amount of squat racks, benchpress racks, dumbells, machines, etc to meet any of your needs. There is pert near anything you need to further pursuing your fitness goals at this gym. Its located inside a large open warehouse space with plenty of room to never feel cramped. One of the best gyms in Sac. Drove from Oakley, so roughly 1hr 20min to and from but it's worth it. The energy is insane, all the best equipment, and if you're lucky on the weekend, there could be a strongman competition going on in the parking lot to watch after training or during your rest. Visiting from out of the area: I watch a lot of Alan's videos, e.g. STOP Deadlifting Until you do this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEy_czb3RKA&t=18s) and really appreciate the on-line support. Was going to be in the area; therefore I emailed Alan ahead of time to drop-in. I received a prompt reply, $10 drop in fee for both myself and my co-worker. We were able to get a tour of the gym from Alan and then start our workout on our own. It's a warehouse gym, I love warehouse gym's; I loved Alan's place. Deadlift platforms, squat racks, bench press equipment, plenty of bars, plenty of plates (iron plates or oly style plates for their oly platform). Alan has also opened up an area with strong man equipment, very cool. It's a friendly group of people, a lot who already know each other and have been around the gym. You should be friendly, open and don't hesitate to ask for help and you will get it, we did. Very good experience, if it is your first time reach out to the other gym members while you are there for help around the gym, spots if you need them and you will find everyone friendly and receptive to new people. This is a great gym for anyone who wants to get stronger. The monthly $60-80 membership fee offers strongman conditioning classes for all skill levels, as well as access to legitimate lifting equipment (proper squat racks, deadlifting platforms, two competition-style benches, reverse hyper, and plenty of other good stuff). As Francisco C. said, this gym is not about pretentiousness. It's a place to get stronger and in better shape. Owner/trainer Alan Thrall loves lifting and helping others get better. It was his dream to open his own gym and he's making it happen, recently moving to this bigger and better space. Alan's become somewhat of a youtube sensation, and for good reason. His channel puts out excellent content on proper execution of powerlifting lifts, strongman, stretching, and a variety of other topics. If someone asks me how to get into powerlifting, I regularly point them to his videos as a starting place (https://www.youtube.com/user/athrall7). The only drawback for me is that it's on the complete opposite side of the city from my home. But this is not a gym that you go to just because it's convenient. It's one you seek out because, in contrast to the many generic gyms out there with their relatively unskilled trainers and mediocre classes, this place will seriously help you get stronger. I cant think of a better place to learn the fundamentals of Powerlifting. Alan Thrall's youtube content as well as his 1 on 1 training sessions will give you a good trajectory when it comes to using proper form and technique as a novice lifter. I live in So-Cal and make it a priority now to visit his gym when I come to Sacramento. The members there who train powerlifting and strongman are some of the most dedicated and helpful people you will meet. I highly recommend this place! read more

I came here back in March for a quick form check on my compound movements (squat, bench, deadlift and overhead press). Alan, the owner, is a good guy. He gives a lot of free information on his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/athrall7) and he's a pretty smart dude. The gym itself is clean and well-equipped. Anyone looking to get fit or strong can't complain here. The other members were extremely friendly as well. I first went to Alan at Untamed Strength almost 4 years ago to get this old guys form corrected on the Squat, if you don't understand what I just said this is not the gym for you. This is a gym for those trainees wanting to get stronger and/or learn/improve there lifting skills. This is not 24 Hour Fitness or California Fitness, this is the new wave of training gyms for those who are committed to the Iron Game, don't expect to be coddled everyone here is here to train and not to complain! I joined back in February and I am so happy to say that Strongman has pretty much changed my outlook on fitness. I HAVE NEVER BEEN STRONGER. I have never been good at any sport and I finally found a sport I am thriving in. This gym is not like anything you have experienced before. No douche bags, no pretentiousness, just positivity and a place to come and WORK. All shapes, sizes and ages come and workout here ready to give it all they have. Alan Thrall is dedicated to his gym and strongman. He is a great trainer and is willing to give you all of his knowledge. Combined with all of his success in Youtube you are set up to succeed. I have also been a regular at his Strongman conditioning classes. The combination of HIIT and Strongman events is super fun and never boring. There is always many people attending and we are all there to support each other and lift some heavy stuff. I work as a photographer and this class has definitely increased my endurance on long shoot days. I could go on and on, I couldn't be happier. I can't say enough positive things about Untamed Strength! I came to a conditioning class with my friends who have been members for a while, been a member ever since. This place has helped me with my anxiety by being an atmosphere of acceptance, all of the members are great, if you are having a rough time on a grindy rep, people literally stop what they are doing and cheer you on. Don't like going to the gym alone, there's always a friendly face to b.s. with in between sets. New to the gym? Won't be a stranger for long, you'll be befriended rapidly. Then of course there is the fact that I am getting strong! Which has given me exponential confidence. Most importantly is the owner Alan Thrall, he is the best coach I have ever incountered, he inspires you to do things you thought you couldn't, he scales all activity in conditioning classes to your level.
