Gold's Gym keeps wrongfully billing us, long after we cancelled our memberships. We cancelled our memberships after they closed the 1051 W Patrick St location. I have the original contracts, and the documents confirming our cancellation request. Almost a year later, Gold's Gym is still trying to bill my credit card. I came to Maryland with my friend we're both stationed in Jacksonville but still wanted to get those gains in. They will charge you every 2 weeks, sometimes 3 times a month and if you want to cancel the membership you may have to pay around $200 and wait a month until the membership is canceled on the meantime you have to still be paying every two weeks for that month and after that you have to Pay an extra 2 weeks after your membership is canceled read more

I am not too worried about what the staff is doing or the other members. It is kind of small and there aren't any towels or anything like that. My gym I signed up for in Frederick closed, so they transferred my membership to this Frederick location. So many people cancelled their membership and now this place is always packed. I signed up at Gold's Gym Westview one month ago and am moderately satisfied. The location offers good equipment in fairly new condition, clean exercise spaces, and a staff that is friendly and responsive. The initial fitness assessment lasts one hour and includes a 3D body scan that shows body composition and estimates how long it would take to reach any given fitness goal. Dylan, the personal trainer who did my assessment, was personable and knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I got a lot of value from the free session, and I found the rates for ongoing personal training quite reasonable. Unfortunately security at this gym is lackluster. My wallet and bag were stolen out of a locked locker in the men's locker room on May 12, and I found out that security camera footage at this location is not recorded to DVR. One would hope Gold's Gym would do more to identify the thief and protect its members. I found the general manager's blasé attitude towards this fundamental security flaw disheartening, to say the least. Nevertheless, the location offers decent value for the $35/mo, no initiation deal I signed up under. Gold's staff is friendly and helpful, always greeting guests at the door and wishing they well when they leave. The early morning staff member during the week is positive and offers suggestions even take time to check in with members about their progress and goals. If you are looking for a fun challenge and are new to lifting check on the body pump classes! Body pump is offered almost everyday and you can't go wrong with any of the instructors. I would recommend the starting with the Thursday 4:30 class! It is a positive environment with fun and upbeat music and teachers! read more

place is horribly run. there is no oversight to how people act in gym from camping on equipment while texting, wiping of equipment or slamming of weights. if you mention to staff they act like your the problem and if you mention it to the person your invading their workout. they only know and greet people that they seem to like and have no time to acknowledge other regulars. i have moved on. so far haven't experienced billing problems read more

I went to this gym regularly for about one year when I was working in Frederick; it's one of about 6 Gold's Gyms I've used on a regular basis. I'm torn between a 3 or 4 star rating, I'll go with a 4 since the good outweighed the bad and it was very convenient for me. I agree with Terry about the "hard sell" - I also started going there via a great Groupon, and was very much pressured to sign up for a real membership immediately. I think a better way to sell your gym is to be low-pressure and let the gym facilities speak for themselves. The rest of the employees were super nice and helpful though. My other complaint is that the ladies' locker room would frequently be closed for cleaning in the middle of the day, immediately following one of the classes I regularly attended (my work location meant I could pop over for a mid-morning class, but I'd need to quickly shower off afterwards). The closure was clearly posted and regular, but it'd be nice if they had a female staff member that could clean the locker room so it wouldn't have to close or if they picked a time when no one needed it. The facilities are fine, seemed to be well-maintained, and were generally very clean. Not the most extensive machine selection I've ever seen, but pretty good. The classes are great, I really liked most of the teachers, and the afternoon ones fit my schedule (the office workers/post-5:00 people) pretty well. There is a sauna in the ladies' locker room, but I never used it. One thing I LOVE about this location - and that I haven't seen elsewhere - is the women-only room connected to the ladies' locker room, with mats, some weights, foam rollers, and a stationary bike. This means you can awkwardly stretch and roll out your muscles without worrying about guys staring at you. read more

Now if you cancel a primary membership a person set up as a secondary member on the same account still gets charged. They forget to mention that little nugget. Doesn't make any business sense. One Tuesday evening at 5:45pm I spoke to an employee at the front desk about a billing concern, she told me there was a manager available, he's on the phone and will be with me in a few minutes, after waiting 20 minuets she went to the back for the second time, then told me, "he will be a few more minutes, you should go work-out, i'll come get you when he gets off the phone." At around 6:30 as I was working-out I could see the manager at the front desk, i then headed to the front, when i got there, she said, "manager just left, he said to send him and email." REALLY!!!!... Imagine after waiting for almost an hour to speak to the manager, he just left, without even acknowledging you.. this is the type of horrible customer service and disrespect you deal with at this location read more

I just took a new Golds Gym bootcamp workout with trainer George and it was pretty awesome. I'll go back for another. The coolest part of my time at Golds gym today was the 3D scanner which George helped me with after the workout. It's scanned my body and gave me measurements for all my body parts a BMI and a caloric plan to teach my goals or maintain. If you have a chance to try a boot camp class try it with him and get the 3D scan. It is really cool and if you have bootcamp I. Your measurement I think you get the scan once a month. This is a "Dr. Jeckel & Mr. Hyde" kind of place. I went in (had not been to a gym before) on a Groupon (best way to try it out without having to fork over a credit card, etc.) Had a very mixed experience. Let me explain The good: Great people, ready and willing to help, and show you how to use the machines! (ask for Brian - he is GREAT) CLEAN. Good machines, well maintained. Lots of them. You do not have to wait for a machine. The BAD PRESSURE TO SIGN UP. When I first went there, they knew I was on a Groupon. Still had to sit through the full "sign up now for a year" presentation; fairly hard sell. I kind of expected this, so was prepared for it. The "Fitness assessment". This was the biggest letdown and source of frustration and anger I had. As part of the "coupon" I got a "free fitness assessment". So, I made the appointment and went in. Was supposed to take an hour, and was supposed to get a good idea of my fitness level, best type of workout, etc. WHAT A JOKE!!! The "assessment" took less than 15 minutes. I then had to sit through 45 minutes of why I should sign up for a personal trainer (at $300 + a MONTH). Needless to say, I declined. Felt very taken advantage of and "gamed". Was so angry I did not even go back for a week, until I calmed down. Conclusion: IF you can get a coupon, and not have to sign up for a year, etc; and You do not need a trainer or don't mind paying a lot for it Then The staff is very friendly, the equipment and facility is nice. Would I do it all over again? Yes, but I would certainly skip the "assessment". As to their billing policies, I don't know and cannot comment. Will I join after the Groupon is over? Maybe. There was really nothing wrong with the gym. I joined on a 30 day trial in which I could cancel and receive a refund if I decided it wasn't for me. There were certain requirements you had to meet in order to do this which I did. I decided to cancel primarily because they did not have a location near my hometown. I was looking for something close to work and close to home. I cancelled in April to date I have not received a refund and was billed for another month. I called once and gone in in person once to resolve this to date nothing has been corrected even though I was assured it would. I will be going in again today to try to resolve this. My suggestion - don't sign up for this Gym. During COVID I asked to put my membership on hold as I will not be going to the gym until it is much safer to do so. I was told I could put the payments on hold for 3 months at a time only and I would not see any charges. 3 weeks later I received a charge for 67% of the bi-weekly charge. I called back and was told they could not submit a refund, but I would get the amount as a discount when payments started again. I was also told that the person that entered the hold into the computer did so incorrectly, because he was busy. Then a month later the refund came through. Fast forward 4 weeks, and I received a $20 charge. I called the gym again, and was initially told the amount was to cover COVID related cleaning. I asked him why as I was not using the gym. Then he said, oh, that's the yearly renewal charge. I again asked to cancel and was told I have to go in to the gym to do that. I also told him I would dispute the charge with my credit card company, and he said I would have a collections company at the door!! I asked to talk to the manager, and was told he was not there and he did not know when he would be back. I'll be on my way to the gym to cancel this nightmare as soon as possible. I have been a member since before Gold's took over. It was not a good change. Not well managed, machines are regularly broken, eliminated all but 1 Zumba class. Not enough classes during the day. I never see patrons wipe down machines and temperature is always too warm. Also eliminated wipes and use awful paper towels and who knows what kind of cleaner is in spray bottles. Old equipment. Many members have left to go to a great gym further north, but it is a little too far for me or I would leave too. Many of the great staff and trainers have left. Wish my husband and I had a better alternative. Also, I've complained about CNN always being on the tv. I don't want politics at the gym. George and Fernanda are great personal trainers. Very bad experience. I signed up for 3 months. Two weeks before the end of the 3 months I decide to quit. I went to the gym, and they are going to charge me a "cancellation fee" because I didn't give then 30 days notice. I did give them a 15 day notice, but that was not good enough. Tried to cancel my membership with my local club over the phone and was instructed to go online to cancel. I followed their instructions but continued to get charged for 2 months after my original cancellation period. When I called the gym back they informed me they had no record of my cancellation and that they could cancel me in person if I could make it to the gym. After filling out the paperwork in person I was told I would be cancelled immediately to ensure there was no additional charges. When I asked for a refund of the extra payments that had been collected I was told to call corporate. To process a refund I was transferred to a supervisor did not answer so I left a message. A month later after no call and still more charges I called back to get a refund for the now 5 payments that had been collected after my original 30 day cancellation period. I was offered just 2 of the payments back. My recommendation is to find a local better run gym that cares about their customers. Golds gym is out of touch with their customers and don't understand the value of a customer for life. I figure I still have another 50-60 years of gym members to pay during my life but you can bet none of that will go to Golds read more

Would not recommend Gold's to anyone after the experience of dealing with the manager Carl at this location. I'm military and new to the area and decided to check out all the local gyms before picking the gym I would start my membership with. Filled out the 3 day free trial at this Golds location and was told by Carl I couldn't get a trial or membership because my drivers license was not from the area... guess Golds thinks Service Members should also pay and get a new drivers license in every state we move. Carl was a good representation of Golds I guess being a non profit organization now because denying paying memberships because of Drivers licenses being from a different location. Good to know that Golds Corporate and franchise owners aren't concerned with monthly membership revenue. On a positive note to anyone reading this review looking for a local gym in the Frederick area, I had no issues with One Life fitness doing a trial by far better customer service and the facilities are excellent and they will absolutely be getting my monthly membership after dealing with Carl and Golds. read more

I will not recommend this facility for one reason; LACK OF PROFESSIONAL COURTESY and DISCRETION. I got in two car accidents September and December. The first one , my vehicle got total lost, my wife, my Twi boys and I suffered major physical and psychological(Kids including skull surgery). However, we wanted to stay strong and decided to continue with the gym after all therapy so we did not call to freeze the account. All we thought was our well being of our kids and keep up with their medical, Chiropractic, and school curriculum appointments. So there was no time for other stuff. December got in a second accident with a trailer truck, I was hospitalized for one week with a lower back fracture and a mass on my right lung. Again, we knew that it will take another 3 months at least to recover. NO CHOICE, but to cancel our membership. I talked to the manager Carl, Tried to tell him our situation so he can either reimburse us for three months or allow us to attend the gym for 3 month free of charge after fully recover, but he stated NO because POLICY. Come on, there are policies everywhere, I wanted you to act as the manager that you are and put some humanity kindness in your heart. I have being in a supervisor position and I know when to provide professional Courtesy and Discretion putting policies aside and do the right thing for someone no matter religion, race or gender. As a Manager, I could have said " please recover first and take care of your family, once you are done, come and see me and I will grant you a 1 month free pass to the gym". I tell you that this will go a long way, I will take a 1 free month and I will sign up again with great joy. Only because I will see that he understands my situation and that he will want the best for my well being. After the cancellation, they said "ohh you can use the gym for two month after cancellation (01-16-19). HOW WILL I USE THE GYM for two months now when I am still recovering. Does not make sense. I can not lift or bend. It is never late to correct and do the right thing. We all make mistakes BUT you can always fix it while you are alive. All am asking is. Let me recover with my wife from these 2 accidents and allow us at least to get back in the gym for two months free of charge. read more
