This is one of the bigger Asian supermarkets on Stockton Blvd. Located in the same plaza as King Palace Restaurant and other smaller businesses. They have been established for over 30 years. Lots of parking. They offer meats, seafood, produce, frozen food, snacks, drinks, etc. Decent produce qualities. Hit and miss at times. I have not bought any meats so I am unsure about their quality for that department. For the most part, they have the things I need. Some are even cheaper than other grocery stores. If expiration date is your thing, do check the dates on the items as I noticed they were selling items that are passed the expiration dates listed. I came into the store looking to see if I could find some Vietnamese coffee. I didn't find what I was looking for, but overall, I thought it was a nice store. It is clean, but it is a definitely an older store. It doesn't have everything that the "Asian megastores" have, but It has a good selection of groceries, they have groceries from all over Asia, and I also saw some Mexican as well as some American items as well. They had a good produce and frozen section, a very good meat section, as well as a good seafood section. On the seafood section, they had live fish for sale, and fish that was already "on ice." They have a small hot food section, and there was a bakery, but it was closed. I don't know if it was just on the day I was there, which was a Saturday at noon, or if it was closed for good. The grocery section is good, with a lot of choices. in the coffee section, I was hoping to get some Vietnamese coffee, but the only kind they had was the "salted coffee." I tried it over there, and I didn't really care for it. It had a good flavor, but it was just a little bit too salty for me. I don't know if that was the place that made it, but I'm not going to try it again. They did have a large selection of teas from throughout Asia. They also have a very good houseware section as well. Told the guy I wanted three of their biggest ones with all their legs. He bagged them up quick. I opened the bag and noticed one didn't have a claw. Told him I didn't want it. Told me that's the way they come. Bought the other two and went home. Dumped them in the sink. One was missing three legs and the other one leg and a claw. That's a lot of meat. Goldstar Supermarket is one of the oldest Asian supermarkets in the Sacramento area. I usually came here for grocery shopping until all the newer Asian supermarkets opened in Sacramento. The market looks a little outdated, but it is very clean and well organized. The price of the groceries is better than most of the other Asia supermarkets in the area. The meats and veggies are very fresh. I am here to order a whole BBQ pig from the Chinese BBQ department. Ken and another gentleman working in the Chinese BBQ department are accommodating. They take the time to get the details of my order because of my special requests for the pig. Everything turns out perfectly, and we have a delightful time together with the BBQ pig. I have purchased some Chinese medicines for my family and some more groceries when I order the pig. All the employees are super nice and friendly. I'll come to shop at Goldstar Supermarket when I'm in the area. read more

Vibe/layout I always come here to get some grocery after dim sum, its like a tradition lol. all i worry about is what am i going to eat next lol. Whenever i come here i always find myself glued to the scratchers machine which is right next to the entrance when you walk in, and spend a fortune on those sucker, hoping to win something big. lol u feel me? In the back is the where the meat and produce is at. In the middle of the store is dry food goods. It is a smaller azn super market compare to others, but not too shabby. Parking It is a shared lot with other stores nearby, but it is big enough and never an issue. Meat Well i like coming here to get some drum sticks when i am in the mood to make some chicken dishes. As well they do got some good fresh tripe here. i like to buy my tripe here. Also they do got some good pork spareribs here. man when i am feeling for some good spareribs here is where i go! i do make some mean black bean sauce spareribs with steam rice and it like a fiesta when i eat! lol Produce Well they do got some fresh produce here. i like to get those eggplants, boo chou, and gai pan which is chinese broc, or mustard greens. sometimes they have some fresh bitter melon and thats what i like to get when i come here. Drinks Sometimes i do get thirsty and i just stop by the drink station and yes they have a variety of drinks! lots of azn drinks to mdxi drinks as well. One of my drinks i like to get is the honey black jello drink, which is so good when it is chilled right! Lots of coconut water as well, which is perfect for the summer! Dry goods Lots of dry goods here, such as bean curds, which i like coming here to get for my chinese remedy soups. On the very left of the store, they have some chinese herbal med for sale, if you believe in those or a fan of those healthy meds, check it out! no it is not cheap, but it does work! Yeah, I definitely wouldn't shop here if I were you. I've seen some disgusting things in this supermarket. I'm talking old products, mice running around playing tag with each other, roaches doing hopscotch in the corner, dusty fruits and vegetables. I think I seen a drink from 2003 in here; no, I'm serious. Or was it 2013? Look, anyway... this place needs to be closed down. It stinks, it's dirty and it feels very uncomfortable to be in this store. I feel sorry for anyone who's experienced something terrible in here. Came here to do some shopping after eating dim-sum with the family. The store is fairly small compared to the major Asian supermarkets. I noticed price here seem a little bit more steeper than SF Supermarket. I ended up getting a case of aloe vera juice and also stocked up on vermicelli noodles. S N A P S H O T ---------------------------------------- From soup bowls to bowl cuts (referencing the usual dinnerware aisle and peculiar, in-store barber shop), Goldstar Supermarket falls a little short of comparable markets such as Vinh Phat and Wing Wa yet their unique offerings of herbs make it worth a visit despite the lackluster bakery and hot foods counter. D E T A I L E D R E P O R T ---------------------------------------- A nicely sized market, this establishment receives points for a couple of unique items, distinct from other Asian markets I've been to. Most of the market was in line with what I've seen at other Asian grocery stores. Meaning, English-speaking employees were in scant supply and store cleanliness was sufficient (although this is relative because compared to the Safeway's and Whole Food's of northern California, Asian markets fall short of the bright, sterile environment the latter supply). On the outside, the front of the market shows it's age but don't let that intimidate you. Inside, you'll find a few cashiers behind which are a pleasing amount of aisles upon which you'll find the typical Asian market contents, including noodles, canned goods, snacks/candy, cookware, etc.. As to the unique elements here at Goldstar, in addition to the usual hot food, seafood, produce, frozen food, and poultry departments, you'll find a barber! That's correct. Get "a little off the top" before you shop for the weeks' meals! While this may have seemed humorous to me, the bakery was barren of both product and people and the hot food counter looked deserted with only a couple of items in the warmer; things which quickly robbed me of my initial amusement from seeing an in-house barber. The draw to Goldstar I submit is the herbs "aisle." Less an aisle and more floating end caps and things stacked on the ground, I saw many dried herbs, roots, nuts, and such that I had never seen before, resting in open barrels or boxes. It was fascinating! There was also an aisle full of varying kinds of incense and paraphernalia specific to this which I found pleasing. I did see a few English and Mexican goods here but not enough to consider mentioning beyond this. Use of debit cards for purchases under $5 will result in a $1 fee. I N C O N C L U S I O N . . . ---------------------------------------- If you don't require the large supply that mega-markets such as KP and SF supermarkets supply, then Goldstar could fit the bill much the way that Wing Wa and Vinh Phat do, although in ranking I would place Goldstar beneath both of those. That said, come by and take a look at those herbs... ...and maybe get yourself a perm in the process! read more

My mom and I came to the store looking for the new 2021 rice. When we got there we were so happy that they had so many bags left since a lot the of places in south sac has been sold out of the new crop. So while we exit the door with the 2 bags of 50lb rice. I've noticed a tape was kinda peeling off. So I peeled it off and there it was, it was covering the number zero from 2020 and it was marked with a one instead. This place is a SCAM and please take your money else where. Services is horrible, they did not apologized for the findings. So I went and rip all the tape off that was covering the 2020 rice, which had about 10 bags there. read more

AA Purification Systems / appliance's are located inside the Goldstar Market. Avoid them at all cost. They do not stand behind the products they sell, and there is a NO RETURN policy. Once you buy it, you have to call the maker of the product. No warranty service. And their employee, is the worse. No customer service. At least when you buy something on Amazon or any other major retailer, you can return if you don't like it. At AA Purifications, they will just take your money. read more

Your typical Asian market. I came here to buy a couple of bottles of liquor and I would say that they are cheaper than your local liquor store. Service is ok only. The cashier had me waiting a while before they even helped me out. I don't expect much service from an Asian market so I guess it's the norm. While being a 6'3" white guy at an Asian supermarket may make me stand out as unusual, I'm relatively well-versed in what a good Asian supermarket looks like. This one's okay. It has a decent selection of items, mostly chinese, vietnamese, and thai. It does have a great noodle and chili sauce section, and the prices are comparable and even a little cheaper on some things than other area markets. The fresh seafood and meat were already gone for the day by the time I came in, so I can't vouch for them, but the frozen selections looked good and were also decently-priced. They also have an okay assortment of kitchenware and other incidentals. Produce looked pretty good, too. I'll probably be back if I end up in the area, but won't go out of my way to come here. By far one of the best stocked Asian food markets in Sacramento. I always come here to get the ingredients to make Pho Bo. You can get a good deal on ox tail and beef knuckle, and they will even cut it up into the right size pieces for the soup stock. Spices and such are kept up front as well as the liquor and tobacco...very convenient. Koon Kay bakery is connected right into the market and yes, the pineapple cake is VERY good. Someone mentioned the service..the way service works is you are allowed to look and figure out what you need and when you are ready you let them know and they will be glad to help you. They don't come up to every 2 minutes asking, "Do you need help?" like some other markets which gets kinda annoying after a while. I personally like the kind of service Goldstar provides some people don't. I disagree with another yelper about the produce here. The produce section is behind the frozen seafood and depending on what you want they have an amazing wide variety of produce, including fresh ginger, squash, onions, cilantro, etc. Maybe their green onions aren't always the freshest hence the half star deduction. The other half star is from the parking. All I can say is be careful and try to come either early in the morning when it opens or later before closing time. OK this is an older Asian food store located along the Stockton Blvd. I remember coming here when I was younger and it was always busy, but as more and more Asian stores opened it has slowly lost most of its business. The meat department is typical of most Asian markets as they don't greet you or thank you after helping people. I've been to this place for their roasted pork many times. Being in the mood for some the other day I became very disappointed at what I found waiting for someone to help me. There was a fly in there. I was in shock! Then I noticed another one. Two flies flying around land on a perfectly good piece of meat. No one in sight to help me. I left without the pork and the flies! I will never go there to buy their pork no matter how good it was. I come here often. I think they have the best frozen pho meatballs, I've looked in other stores on Stockton Blvd, but they are the only one that sells these meatballs. They also have the cheapest bags of frozen shrimp and fishballs. I love shopping here because it's big and not crowed like the other Asian stores and parking is generally good. There is also a bakery next door that you can access from inside Goldstar, the pineapple coconut bun is delicious. Their produce selection is not that great. I purchased a tripe from the meat department and had them cut it for me. The man removed the tripe from the original box and cut them into 18 pieces and put them in another box to take home. When I arrived home, I counted them and noticed 1 was missing, so I immediately called and let them know. They tried to tell me that's how many pieces ended up being cut from the entire piece and what I should have received; although I am certain they swiped one from me. It's not so much the value that I am upset about, but the fact that they are trying to rip people off. It's bad business and I will never shop from dishonest people again. Beware of what you purchase from them, they will give you less than what they claim they are giving you. read more

I've been coming here for years. If you want to see what markets are like in the old SF or Hong Kong style, this is it! No fancy displays, no customer service, just tons of food and household items you'll NEVER see in a regular American supermarket. Prices are great, too. Koon Kay Bakery has wonderful buns and crunchy Chinese donuts that melt in your mouth. Their cakes are light sponge cake style, not too sweet and nice fresh fruit filling. I discovered Gold Star 4 years ago looking for a particular tea, not only did I find the tea "Bojenmi Tea" (which is good for cholesterol and many other good things ... like delivering a kind of rose flavored flower bouquet to one's palate), but the tea stock is an outstanding variety. the red bean bread cake is to die for the store stock is simply a fantastic offering of many useful items for the regular and international palate. read more
