I recall the first time my wife suggested that we come shop here, I was not very keen because I'm not too adventurous and it seems this Indian supermarket is out of my league. However, I went with her anyways and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious things I found that are now my regular treats as well as how friendly the staff and other customers are here that it's really not a big deal that we stick out a lot, haha.. Specifically, I found this snack called Khatta Meetha, a very popular "Indian snack mix (namkeen) known for its balance of sweet ("meetha") and tangy or sour ("khatta") flavors" according to Google. So it's like a snack mix made of chickpea flour noodles (sev), fried rice flakes (poha), green peas, and roasted peanuts. The seasoning is what makes it so good, yes, it's definitely the combo of sweet and tangy that makes it so tasty. Anyways, they've got a ton of fresh produce, ethnic ingredients and frozen foods as well as plenty of pantry foods like large bags of basmati rice, giant cans/jars of ghee, etc. I don't really cook so I won't know what to do with any of these food items, but everything looks fresh and reasonably priced. All in all, a great place to get South Asian authentic ethnic ingredients and prepared foods, and the bakery sure looks like a great place for anyone with a sweet tooth. Adj: good South Asian specialty supermarket Taj Supermarket has been around for quite a few years now. The space used to be an Office Depot iirc. In any case, it's a grocery store in the Florin area of Sacramento, and shares the same parking lot as Costco South Sac, so it's easy to come by after regular grocery shopping. Taj is a really good-sized Indian grocery store that focuses on providing what you won't find in regular stores. It's pretty well known for its extensive selection of spices, ethnic snacks, fresh produce and specialty items from India, Pakistan, Fiji, and other South Asian countries. I like to come every once in awhile to refill my spice jars bc they sell spices by the bag so it's more economical and they offer so many different spices! Some popular features that I notice their regular customers really like include an in-store bakery, their sweets section, and food trucks serving authentic street food right outside the entrance. The service is efficient and they always have complimentary chai tea which is nice when it's cold out, and even in warmer weather, it's a nice gesture even if it's too hot for steaming hot tea. The staff are usually busy helping or checking out customers or stocking or organizing shelves, but they are available to help find items and for questions if you just ask. Overall, it's a great and large supermarket that I find convenient for finding specialty ingredients like curries, ginger powder, garam masala, etc for cooking Indian cuisine or to add some Indian flavors to my home cooked dishes. I came in to shop for a few things like always because its a one stop shop. I was greeted with respect and a smile like always. I walked around and the place was clean and was nicely lite with bright lights and lots of happy shoppers drinking their tea. I stopped chatted with one of the brothers working we talked laughed he said he hasn't seen me in a while I said its been husband duty to do the shopping lately I just brought out the Birthday Queen (Mom) out to shop. That gentleman took it upon his self to bless mata ji with a slice of cake. Bless his heart . I was told to Zelle a payment for a $49 dollar cake, I was picking it up for my sister in law's daughter's birthday. I told them to write "happy birthday Eesha" and they didn't get it written professionally by a baker and this is what the lady wrote on a chocolate cake.... Taj is an absolute gem for Indian grocery shopping. Before they opened, I used to go to 2-3 different stores to try and find my preferred items. Since Taj has opened, it's been my one stop shop for all things Indian. When you first walk in, you'll see a table setup with free chai. The team is always hard at work, making sure the shelves are stocked and the store is clean. Everyone is very nice and helpful. They have food trucks outside so you can get some delicious food/snacks before or after you shop. They have a great selection to choose from. My daughter always comes with me when I say I'm going to Taj, because she always wants to get a slice of cake from the bakery. And I also get a few sweets for myself. Ordered food from their truck sitting directly outside the front entrance. Kulcha and Papri Chaat were delicious. We had to wait a good 15 min for our order even though nobody else was waiting. People must have ordered ahead of time and then waited in their cars or called in to order. In either case be prepared to wait. Perhaps order and then go into the grocery store. Truck Food: 4 stars Grocery store I rate as a 3. It has lots of dry goods but I expected freshly baked breads and found none. This is hands down the best Indian grocery store in the Sacramento area. They have ingredients you won't find in most places and the selection is huge. For example, they have a dozen different types of chickpea flour! Where else can you find that? Their spice selection is huge as well! They often have several brands/types of each spice and located in different parts of the store. Their produce section is definitely not their strength. It's a hit and miss in terms of freshness; and for the prices they charge, I would expect better. Employees have been very kind and helpful. I have been to the store a few times and every time the cashiers overcharged me. The cashiers should be paying attention to the prices and what they charge. The customer shouldn't have to do the cashiers job. I know that it is only a matter of 30 cents but being charged extra for every items really adds up. read more

Taj Supermarket, Elk Grove's International Grocery Haven! We always stop by Taj Supermarket when we visit family in Elk Grove. They have a large inventory of international goods that may not be available in other supermarkets. Many of these items come from various corners of the world. For example, you can find Indian, Pakistani, or Afghani goods and Samoan, Tongan, or Fijian products. The supermarket is spacious and well-organized. The staff are very helpful if you're having trouble finding an item or have a question. I have been mostly interested in some candies or spices that are hard to come by elsewhere, but there is a lot more there, be it edibles or other household items like pots and pans. Their prices are very reasonable, certainly more reasonable than any place I have found in San Francisco! And they are very well stocked as mentioned before. Visit them if you are in the area. Was at Costco and decided to check out this store. I was also wanting to make Dubai chocolate and hoping they had the shredded phyllo. Unfortunately they did not but it's such a fun store to walk through. Spices are priced very reasonable. Their refrigerated/frozen section is amazing! Bought a box of samosas to fry at home. OMG, they were awesome. I also like that their shopping bag isn't plastic. read more

My visit was very disappointing at this market. They don't have good/fresh vegetables. Onions, carrots, bananas etc. were not fresh at all. They should have been thrown away, but still they were for sale. Not many fruits options either. Whatever was there, it was in a very bad condition. Pulka roti was expensive than any other place. There is no Khari in the store. Lots of items were expired as well. Many items in the store are at high price. I drove 45 minutes with hope that i will get all indian groceries here. But nope.. i had to go one more grocery store to get the groceries. I bought Vadilal ice cream which was $18.99 and I checked the receipt once i got home, they charged me $19.99. This review is delayed about 4 years, we all get busy with our day to day lives but today when I visited Taj Supermarket it brought a smile to my face that hard work really pays off, I just wish they can expand their business more so I don't have to drive from the Bay Area or El Dorado hills every weekend. I respect hardworking people and small business entrepreneurs who have been successful. The brothers Karam and Maninder will both go above and beyond their means to make sure your experience at their shopping center will be a positive experience. Again I really pray they can bring their business to Folsom or El Dorado hills because all my neighbors would be happy to line up to buy their groceries as they are stocked up with fresh produce and food for your family. read more

I have been a regular customer at Taj Super Market and used to visit almost every month. After shopping, I would usually purchase food or jalebi from the food trucks parked outside. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I've decided to take my business elsewhere. The staff working at both the jalebi and chaat trucks were rude and seemed to take customers for granted. I've also noticed a decline in food quality over time. The jalebis were no longer fresh and crispy but instead soggy. The chaat truck has reduced portion sizes while also lowering quality. When concerns are raised, the staff respond by arguing rather than listening. Today, the dhokla I purchased was extremely soggy and had an unusual taste. The chole kulcha was served in a burger bun instead of kulcha, and the portion of masala fries appeared to be nearly half of what it used to be. When I politely shared this feedback with the cashier, instead of addressing the concern, she began arguing. As a result of this experience, I've decided to stop visiting and will be taking my business elsewhere. I hope management reviews customer feedback seriously and works toward improving both service and food quality. read more

Just moved in to Sacramento from the Bay and husband wants to try cooking Biryani's and yelping for some ingredients and found this supermarket. Surprisingly this supermarket is big compared to where we use to from the Bay Area. They have everything here from fresh veggies, spices, snacks name it..it's also amazing that you can have free hot chai tea at the entrance with cookies cashiers are also friendly. They also have food trucks in front of supermarket serving from Thursday to Sunday but no chance to try the food since we are bound to cook chicken biryani's read more
