I was visiting other businesses in this large Asian mini mall, and I saw this store. It looked interesting. It's basically a large snack shop. They have snacks/jerky/frozen items/a little bit of everything. There was a huge selection of bulk jars. The only problem with the bulk jars, as you have to buy at least a half a pound. They had a big selection of dried fruit, and I decided to get a half pound of the lemon ginger. It was very good. The lemon keeps the ginger from being too strong, and of course ginger is very good for you if you have an upset tummy. I also bought a half pound of mix and match what looked like dried candies. They were actually wrapped dried fruit. Some of them were OK, but some of them were a bit too salty or spicy for me. I probably wouldn't get those next time. The prices were reasonable, although there is a small up charge if you pay with plastic/Apple Pay. The people were very friendly. I will check them out again the next time I'm in the area. I've been here a handful of times now and each time has always been pleasant. There's a place like this that my mom and I frequent in the Bay Area that I miss. We like to get the salted plums, gooseberry and prunes. I've also tried the beef jerkies here. The staff are nice depending on the day. The only thing I noticed today was that they didn't have any containers or napkins to use when you're sampling. I had to find where to throw the seeds and good thing I had an old napkin with me. The other downside was that you have to buy a minimum of half a pound. What if you don't want a half pound and only want a quarter? Especially if you plan to get more than 1 item you should be allowed to get less than half a pound. They also charge an added amount if you use a credit card but the lady today was nice enough to let us pay with the extra charge since all of us purchased different things. This store was across the street from our UYE this morning at Hao Bao Dumpling House. I saw "Jerky" on the front of the building and of course, I wanted to get some. They have maybe three dozen bins of different types of jerky. It's mostly beef and just a little pork. It's $11.95 a half pound and I don't know how that compares to other places that sell jerky in bulk. You have to buy at least the half-pound minimum. I bagged up 6 or 7 different ones with different types flavoring on them. I just made the half-pound minimum or she said I did. I should have looked at the scale. I get out a card to pay with and they stupidly have a minimum of $15.00 on a credit card. The store is well stocked, but I only looked at the jerky. I tried some of each different flavoring when I got home. They all tasted about the same, just some were spicier than others. Some are very, very sticky and I had to really scrub my fingers after eating it. One type is hard enough it could damage a tooth. I'm not that impressed and probably won't go back. read more

Haven't ever had jerky that wasn't from a grocery store, so I stopped in here while waiting for bahn mi's next door. They had all kinds of jerky and other dried meats, lots of dried fruits, and some freezer / fridge stuff like meat buns. A lady comes over and asks me what I've looking for, I asked her for spicy beef jerkies. She pointed out a few and asked if I wanted a sample, I said no thanks I'll just take a half pound of those mix & matched. Super pleasant experience. It's been a few days of snacking on it, but I think I got three flavors; BBQ, 5 spice & curry beef. The BBQ & 5 spice were very good, a little messier than most jerky I've had, but tons of flavor with mild to medium spice. The curry one I didn't care for very much, it was a nice texture just not my cup of tea flavor wise. I would definitely go again, I'd be interested in trying some of the seafood options, some of the freezer items, and more jerky flavors. Not really sure what to say about the price, beef jerky is always expensive, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary to me. I love specialty places like this. read more

I love beef jerky so when I passed by I had to stop inside. There is a nice lady there (probably the owner?) and she let us sample as many of the meats as we liked. We were just below the $15 minimum amount for a credit card charge. She was very gracious and charged us the lesser amount even though I asked her to charge us the full $15. I was treated very well here so I had to write a yelp review for anyone on the lookout for some good beef jerky. The jerky itself was very reminiscent of the asian-style beef jerky you can find in the supermarket. The ones I had were on the spicy side too. I only visit this place a few times in a year because I end up buying more than I should. I love beef jerky and it's one of my guilty cravings. My top favorites are the red wine beef jerky then the French flavor beef jerky. The flavor is on point. It's moist, tender, and very flavorful. Deer jerky is good, but it can be a bit dry due to how lean it is. Whenever I get deer jerky, I grill it a bit on my grill to make it less chewy. Beef jerky is getting pricey, but it's better than me driving down to LA or SJ to satisfy my cravings. Their spicy pickled baby mangos are good and crunchy, but it's not spicy at all. Bought 1/2 pound of squid jerky here and it was so dry. My husband and I still ate it regardless. Until today, I took out of the fridge, wrapped 1 piece in paper and microwaved it for 20 seconds, took it out and it was smoking and almost half of it melted into this black gooey looking thing and solidified seconds later. Even after 6-7 hours, the burnt smell (though not plasticky) still lingered around. I don't think real squid would melt like that. If you have bought squid from here, make sure you burn it first to see if it melts before eating it. read more

This place can get really expensive, but given the uniqueness of it in this town, I don't mind rounding up on the rating. De Nhat Kho Bo have many different varieties of jerky (most are beef & squid/cuttlefish). They have a ton of dried preserved fruits as well. My favorite are some of the sugar plums because it's really hard to find perfect ones in stores since they're usually either too hard or salty --not that some of these aren't super salty. Always a nice texture that indicates freshness though. With that said, a variety of Vietnamese style beef jerky is also a hard find. The flavors do not differ too drastically between each one. They're normally on the sweeter side, and I find that even the spicy ones aren't very hot (but that's a personal thing, obviously). These are the kind of jerky that goes well with Vietnamese salads and can become overwhelming to eat alone due to their thick cuts. Most definitely ask to sample before buying them, especially when they won't allow you to get less than 1/2 lb of anything. You can mix and match though if the price per pound is the exact same. They would normally pack it OVER the requested weight and charge more which is super irritating. Everything is placed in a resealable vacuum bag. I'm happy that Sacramento have one of these places around. Go for the variety of snacks sold in bulk and stay away from the extremely overpriced prepackaged stuff you can buy at any Asian market. read more

A gentleman quickly approached me and offerred me samples of anything I wanted to taste. It is surprising how many different flavors they offerred. Not only did they have beef and fish jerkies, but they offerred a variety of each. They also carry many different types of asian fruits and candies by the pound. I will return. There were 2 ladies (1 of them must be the owner I guess) helped us on that day, they let us sample everything we want to. They were so nice and helpful! We didn't bring any cash so she even offered that she would pay for the tax this time so we didn't have to pay for it. It's not about the money but about her service that made us very satisfied! A coworker recommends this place for Vietnamese style beef jerky so off I go. I visited this place two times before writing my review because I didn't want to miss a thing. The shop seems clean and sale people are pleasant. There must be 10 different varieties of beef jerky and they offer tiny bits of samples if you want to taste the flavors before buying. I bought the lemongrass beef jerky; it was yummy when I tasted it but after a while the lemongrass became too much. I'd rather stick to the teriyaki one. Deer jerky is a bit gamy and dry but it's an okay option. The shop also has many different kinds of dried fruits stored in glass jars but they are too sweet for me. So at this point you're probably wondering why I gave them two stars...here's why: 1) you have to buy a minimum of 1/2 pound per item. If everything costs by its weight, I'm not sure why they just don't prorate the cost if customers want to buy less than 1/2 lb. 2) the price is on the expensive side 3) on both visits the cashiers (a woman on the first visit and a man on the second visit) asked me to pay with cash instead of cards as soon as they saw me pulling out my credit card. They both told me they wouldn't charge sale tax if I pay with cash. I don't care for businesses that try to finagle with taxes and make no attempt to hide it. I was craving some pickled fruits so I went to this store. The moment we entered the store, the annoying store keeper kept following us around asking us what we wanted to eat. He wouldn't leave us alone. When we asked for half-a-pound of a dried fruit, he insisted we buy more. He kept asking us if we're sure we did not want more. I would have bought way more stuff, a lot of the stuff there looked pretty good, but unfortunately we walked out not buying anything because the store keeper was super annoying. I would not recommend this place unless you like being harassed. This reminds me of a similar store in San Jose. They also have the same annoying sales tactic. I'm so happy a place like this opened in Sacramento! All the beef jerky I can ever eat! Before this place came along, gas stations and SF supermarket were the only places I can find beef jerky at and even then, it never satisfied my jerky cravings. This place is awesome because of the variety of all types of Jerky, not just beef. There's also dried fruits as well. The owner was very nice, welcoming, and helpful. He asked what kind of beef jerky I liked and offered me tons of samples before I made my choice. I always liked my jerky somewhat spicy, sweet, and moist so I went for the Teriyaki flavor and it was so soft and fresh. Super tasty. The price for everything ranges from $10-12 per 1/2 lb, which is NOT too bad for beef jerky. These things can get expensive. However, I just wish they sold it by the 1/4 pound for those who wants a little bit of everything instead of getting just one flavor in bulk like that. Still, it's too good to say no too. Such a fun store. Like a candy store, everything in glass jars. Bought half pounds each of dried mangoes, dried sour plums, teriyaki beef jerky (also tried sate, a spicy jerky, and a crispy jerky, all rad, but my kids are only likely to eat the teriyaki) and a half pound of dried squid, which was not smelly like it normally is. I can actually tolerate it in my house, in a zip loc bag. Which is lucky for my children, who usually have to go outside to eat it. It's also banned from my car. So, we'll be back for the stink-free squid that is apparently still delectable. Anyway, HIGHLY recommend! You cannot go touch the jars, the storekeepers have to do it for you, so that's why they are with you the whole time you are shopping. Pretty high quality. I prefer the dried mangoes that are not plumped up or sugary, but these are not bad. My kids sampled all the squid, the dried abalone snacks (this are a little slippery for my liking) If you like beef jerky, dried fish snacks, fascinating pickles and interesting dried fruits, this is your mecca. Where's the beef? This place offers over 20 different flavors of beef jerky. I was a little overwhelmed. Some flavors include, teriyaki, fruit, curry, bbq, papaya, etc. The price of the jerky varies from $9-$13 per pound. You can also mix and match flavors. They also have varieties of dried fruits and vegetables. They also have dried squid and fish. The only thing i didnt like was there's someone helping you put the beef jerky in thr bag so it creates a little pressure for me because it makes me not want to take my time. He lets you sample some of the jerky. I wished they can have a flat rate per pound for the jerky and let you take your time to decide which ones you want and just pay when youre ready. YAS! Somewhere I could go for good jerky!! I've been trying to find a place like this and I'm glad I decided to stop by after getting a vietnamese sandwich. Originally what caught my attention is the dried fruit they sell here. I like snacking on preserved plum every now and then so I was excited to grab some here along with snacks :D But seriously guys. This place fulfills all my snack cravings. They have more than just beef jerky here. One of my boyfriend's favorite is the deer jerky. You can pick what kind of jerky you like. Like ones on the drier side or ones slightly moist. Before you purchase, you are able to ask to sample something before you get it. Everytime I come here I've only seen one person working so be patient. You aren't allowed to get the snacks yourself to put into the ziplok bags, they do it for you. They're pretty good about getting back around to you so you wouldn't be waiting long but in the meantime I highly suggest browsing around and see what else they have. If you are planning on buying some snacks from supermarkets I'd recommend coming here instead, they only sell things in 1/2 pound so things can get pricy and depending on what you want to get it can be a good amount instead of a a snack size.
