The business is tucked away in a commercial section of Goleta, somewhat near the airport. It's not the easiest place to find, but just plug that address into your phone and you'll be there in no time. My most recent purchase was to fill in my home's front parkway and a small back terrace with decomposed granite. When we went to look, we found the gentleman who'd assisted us to be very helpful and knowledgeable. I didn't realize how much maintenance DG requires. The salesman ended up showing us California Gold gravel which looks a lot like the product we'd planned to purchase, but wouldn't have to worry about heavy maintenance or seeing it wash away with a rainstorm. Horrible business. Overpriced on quiet literally every single product. Rude customer service. I walked in and the Manager David was yelling at a customer. He looked like he was on drugs. I ignored him and started walking around looking for rocks for my garden. He accuses me of stealing and demands to check my pockets. I let him and he tells me that if he sees on the camera that I stole anything, he would call the police. He was very threatening and I was just browsing the selection. David Cuevas the sales manager is the worst. No customer services. Horrible! He's argumentative, combative and unwilling to actually provide customer service. My interaction with him on the phone, he was dismissive and rude. At the store it only got worse when he was asked to add my company name to the rental contract. He did not let me even finish speak when he interrupted me and asked if I had an account. That the company was not renting, I was. Business 101. I am not the company the company is it own entity. It's sad that David cannot or is unwilling to provide a customer service in such a small town. read more

They stock good products and have good product knowledge but their prices are simply outrageous. They charge 2-3x more for the very same material than it costs in other parts of the state and country. I know SB is expensive, but 3x the highest cost is a straight up rip-off. If you are someone that fancies themselves a DIYer, but really is just adventurous, not afraid of hard work, and appreciates support from people with tons of experience, then you must get to know these guys! I have lost count of the projects that I finished with pride and satisfaction only because of their support. Don't hesitate to throw your ideas at them. I have purchased products from Goleta Building Materials three times in the past 4 months. For the first job, since it required a lot of product, GBM delivered the materials. With the two smaller jobs, I got the materials at the yard (with my own truck). The guys who loaded at the yard and the guy who delivered were polite and professional. I wanted to lay some flagstone, DIY. I checked a couple different options between SB and Goleta and found this place. The customer service was great and the flagstone was quality compared to the bog box retailers, in my opinion. How many places do you find where you have to ask the right questions? DO NOT USE - they have a very friendly and knowledgeable staff HOWEVER they have the WORST follow up and follow through EVER. I went to their yard and spent about 1 hour getting everything selected for my yard. David- one of the staff members came to my house to measure, and he was going to rework the estimate. About a week later I called the office (as I hadn't heard back from David) and left a message and I NEVER heard back from them. I finally went back to the yard and David had LOST all the paperwork and I had to start ALL OVER again . . . David PROMISED delivery this morning at 7AM, when I finally called at 8AM to find out if they were coming, he LIED to me and said they were stuck in traffic due to the schools . . when I asked him what time the truck left their yard, he said he'd get back to me. About a half hour later the DRIVER called to say he was on his way . . .as THEY hadn't left the yard yet . . .The driver said that the office shouldn't make promises . . blah blah blah . . .so needless to say I asked that the owner Ken Hall give me a call. . . right after I cancelled my $3K order! It was hard work for a do it yourself project but the staff was super helpful and the yard guys worked so hard filling over 175 bags, loading and helping us decide the best material.
