Yes, the course is hilly so getting a flat lie is difficult, but if you can play well here, you can play well anywhere. And the views, especially on the third hole, are great. It's a nice course, challenging in places, great scenery in others.

WCC is an excellent 9-hole course. It is NOT an 18-hole championship course, but IT IS one of the most impeccable 9-hole courses in MA. One typically plays whites out, blues in for a total yardage of about 6200. The blues are only about 200 yards longer, but the tee box placement makes it a much tougher 9. The greens run hot when they are in full swing, think 7/8 on the stimpmeter. The fairways are gorgeous, but the fringe and green rough is sometimes imperfect. For a public course, this is top notch. It gets a lot of play. The greens make this course challenging. If you are on, you can go low easily. If you are having one of those days, prepare to be eaten alive. The course has a very reachable par 4 (in 1, hole 2) and a reachable par 5 (in 2, hole 1). The third hole is a sloping and narrowing par 5 with the toughest green on the course. You MUST be below the hole. This course will force you to hit every club in your bag at least once, you will find yourself with uneven lies, and often questioning how you could three-putt from 15 feet. Worth every penny of the $22 for 9, or $32 for 18.

They also had this wonderful driving range, grass or turf, that had pins out yonder, so you could actually shoot for goal. Made the experience very good and rewarding. Nice shop, and while I wanted a set of Ben Hogan irons, I settled on a set of Toski irons... they were fitted, and that process too about two hours. Knowing it was designed by Donald Ross makes the layout even more impressive, especially considering how compact and walkable it is. The course is always in pretty good shape for a city muni, and the setting around the reservoir adds a nice peaceful vibe. You can easily get in 9 holes after work or on a summer morning and feel like you got your golf fix without committing to a full day. That said--be ready for a wait if you go on the weekend. It's a popular spot, and pace of play can slow down during peak hours. Booking ahead is a must. Overall, a fun and challenging course with some real architectural pedigree. So, we decided to leave after trying for 20 minutes. During that time, the worker at the front did try to fix it multiple times. We stayed for another 15-20 minutes to finish our drinks. Right before we were about to leave, we tried one last time and the machine started working so we played for the remaining 50 minutes of our reservation. We went to check out at the end of our time and the woman working there said she could not charge us for only the hour we played, and we really only played for 50 minutes, but had to charge us the full hour and a half, but would comp our drinks. This was ridiculous because the drinks were only $19 and the extra half hour was $40. We paid for 40 minutes that we didn't even play, of our 1.5 hour reservation. Be careful of non working bays and bad business.
