Goliath is my favorite ride of Six Flags. Smooth, no over the shoulder restraints, you get air time and it feels relaxing and free. I remember waiting at least two hours in line when it first opened so I forgot what this ride was like since it has been years. I remembering doing this ride when it first opened up and being completely freaked out by the giant drop at the beginning. I chose not to do it again after my first time for decades. Flash forward to a few years ago and a friend of mine convinced me to do it again I had to psych myself out a little but once I did it I love it. It's a smooth ride with lots of g forces at the end. Goliath is similar to Titan at Six Flags Over Texas, and it's definitely a more thrilling ride than Goliath at Over Georgia, but I think Goliath was a better experience for me at Magic Mountain vs. Over Texas, so I am giving it 5 stars. Titan was a little too intense for me -- I blacked out at the part where the helixes were but it wasn't as bad here. Maybe it was because I was in LA. Goliath looks legit here from the queue entrance. With the massive sign that conquers the queue entrance, you know you're in for a thrill ride. Goliath is a hypercoaster that tops speeds of 85 mph and while the ride only goes up 235 ft in the air, the first drop is 255 ft, going into a tunnel so this is definitely the perfect ride for thrill seekers. There are no loops on this ride but the airtime, the 4.5Gs and the crazy drops make this an amazing ride and you'll get an amazing view of the valley at the top hill. I definitely enjoyed Goliath here and if you're not a big fan of loops, you definitely will too! read more

After pulling down the lap bars and putting on the seatbelts (Thank Six Flags New England for that), we turn around and head up the lift hill. We start climbing and climbing and climbing. For the GP, this is hell. They are screaming while we are laughing. Eventually, crest over the drop and head straight DOWN! Diving and diving 255 ft into an underground tunnel. And the best part is that we just keep going FASTER AND FASTER!!!! So yeah, that drop is fun (although I wish there was airtime here). We then head into a massive turnaround over Twisted Colossus (Awesome coaster btw) we then drop down, smile for the camera, and hit a MASSIVE airtime hill with all of our speed which gives us some decent floater airtime. Yeah, unfortunately, this ride doesn't have the best airtime. We then turn around into the mid-course brake run. And yeah.... this part sucks since we lose all of our speed. The brakes used to be much lighter than they are now, but I heard that this was done due to structural issues with the track. So as unfortunate as it is that this ride loses so much momentum now, I can see why this was done. We then dive into a massive spaghetti bowl-like section with a ton of twists and turns. This is fun, but it's not that forceful since we lost all of our speed before. But.... our hopes of forcefulness are fulfilled when we hit the HELIX OF DEATH which may or may not make you black out. Until you rise up into the brake run. Goliath is one of the more interesting coasters out there and is a ride that I feel like gets too much hate. It often gets bashed for not being as good as the other hypercoasters and is considered to be one of the worst coasters in the park. And yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of Goliath as it's fun, but there are better hypercoasters out there. But good lord some people like Taylor Bybee treats this as if it's a Vekoma SLC or some crap. Like, COME ON! It's obviously not as good as other hypercoasters and it has its flaws (looking at your mid-course brake run), but it's still a very good ride that I recommend riding when you're at the park! One of my favorite rides at SFMM. Here are some brief stats - Height: 235 ft. - Drop: 255 ft. - Speed: 85 mph This ride is fun because it's fast, smooth, and high. You start by climbing a 235 ft. lift hill. Then as you reach the top, you slow down before plunging down 255 ft. into an underground tunnel where you reach a top speed of 85 mph. Since the drop is at a 61 degree angle, the drop feels like it lasts forever. I've been on this ride 8 times, and I still get scared during the drop. The wait isn't too bad unless they're only running one train. I recommend during this ride first since it's near the front of the park read more

That first drop is intense! In the pic after the ride, I'm all tensed up, looking like a wuss, and a tiny girl in front of me is giving a kawaii peace sign all calmly. Ah yes a BIG FAST DISAPPOINTMENT! This ride may look amazing and scary thanks to its 255 ft drop but don't let that fool you. This ride is more forceless than when my grandma accelerates on a green light. Beside the helix which we will talk about later. We start off with the drop which somehow doesn't give me any airtime even in the back row. We then have a big pointless turn around and the transitions in and out of that both provide no force whatsoever. Then there is the "airtime hill" which gives NO AIRTIME. We then hit the midcourse brake run which completely stops the ride so much as to the point to where my friend had time to say "Yes We made it I survived" and we were still on the break run. We then go into the best part the helix. This helix makes you grey and almost black out with how intense it is. Then there are a few pointless turn arounds before hitting the finish. Goliath makes you really hyper in a way so much that your almost flying up in your seat at times on this amazing coaster of no loops! Goliath may have no loops corkscrews or upside down moments in it but it does have a 255 foot drop straight into the underground tunnel of awesomeness! The coaster itself has always been one of my favorite rides at any park I've been to for a number of reasons as it's just a killer experience of epic proportions! The ride is really smooth and very fast it has really sharp turns and a really crazy spiral towards the end of it I've always found that part to be just an all around crazy fun experience that's enjoyable by all means! Wile you are in the middle of the ride it will stop or slow down just look for the flat part that looks where it will stop wile riding so you can brace yourself. It stops here for two reasons first the spiral you are about to ride into is really severe as to where when the ride first opened some people would black out for a minute or so it never happened to me but I've seen some others look like it had happen to them the second reason is to make sure the track in front of you is clear to ride on! For about 6 months when Goliath first opened it was one of the tallest coasters I'm the world and it still shows how amazing it is to this day and a definite must ride when in the park! The line for Goliath can get super long I mean super long on busy days so definitely plan accordingly as you definitely want to ride it. They offer lockers in the very front of the Q just after the giant Goliath letters you can rent one for $1 or you have to leave your belongings to the side wile you ride. Overall Goliath is by far one of the best rides I've ever been on and it's always a great time of speed twists and turns that I always look forward to every visit to Six Flags Magic Mountain! read more

NOW. //THRILL RIDES SERIES// GOLIATH - Minimum Height: 48" - This hypercoaster includes high-speeds and a 255-ft drop. - "Too Fast to be Called a Roller Coaster." I remember this coaster's being the newest, biggest deal when I was in high school. That was years ago. Since then, people have come and gone, several newer coasters have arrived to claim the throne of the best ride in the park, but the big stone signage of "GOLIATH" remains standing today still. Even at present, arguably speaking, it's still one the more popular choices among park goers. On a busy day, expect to wait 30-45 minutes, or even more, which honestly is quite unexpected from an attraction veteran. I blame Selena Gomez and James Cordon. No, I kinda love them both, but they're partially at fault here. Because, for those who are pop culture savvy, one day they decided to carpool-karaoke their way to "work", and incidentally, took a detour. Gomez said, not to worry, it'll be fast. (She wasn't lying. It WAS fast--riding on the Goliath while singing "When you're ready, come and get it, na na na na...") And just like that, TV and YouTube had effectively renewed everyone's interest in this possibly forgotten giant. It's officially cool to ride the Goliath again! ...Well, that's just some speculative semi-bs story that I wanted to post with my review. Take it with a grain of salt, but hey, maybe it indeed reminded the audience just how fun of a ride this is, or at least, the very first drop, imo. Speaking of the first drop, I have wondered why the heck this ride was given the name Goliath, a biblical reference to the titan that David once had to slay. Truly, there isn't much of a theme or any obvious nod to any mythology, really, once the ride starts. There's this really tall, foreboding slope resulting in a fantastic drop, but that's about all the resemblance this coaster has with a gigantic monster. Height. And that's it. To many, that's enough of an excuse to ring it up as "Goliath". But to me, this ride is only somewhere between meh and exciting, though having only a lap bar (without a body harness restraint) does add to the vibe of being in real danger. Try throwing your arms up while dropping and see if you feel like you're floating out of the ride and subsequently falling to your demise. (No, don't fret. It won't happen, because Magic Mountain is pretty safe.) It's indeed a strange, morbid feeling, but hey, some people are thrill seekers. Rounding out the experience is some very fast, very hard, very sharp turns in 2-3 continuous laps, and the g-force almost blacks you out with all your blood pooling to the back of your head. (I have NO IDEA if that's what's actually happening scientifically, but it feels about right.) Because of this very phenomenon, I still don't know if I truly enjoy this coaster even now. It's an ending that is more annoying than enjoyable, especially with the cruel and unrelenting process of my aging... 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4, because between cool and lame, it still leans towards the cooler side... though not by much by today's' standards. read more

Amazing steel rollercoaster located @ Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA. I definitely recommend riding Goliath if you have not been to Magic Mountain before. There are no inversions, but it makes up for it. The first drop into a tunnel is my favorite part of the ride. It's full speed on from there, with Goliath clocking in at 85mph at its max speed. My FAVORITE ride at Magic Mountain!!! Sure you can fly through the air on Tatsu, pee your pants on X2 or rattle your neck on Colossus but for some reason Goliath is my favorite of all the coasters at Magic Mountain. For me it is all about the first drop. You ascend a lift that is over 200 feet tall and then plummet almost straight down into a hole in the ground and then out the other side of that tunnel. Who cares about the rest of the ride? That first drop itself is completely amazing. The rest of Goliath is fun...turns, twists, stuff like that...there is a part where the coaster comes to a stop and as you go around a curve you just hang there to the side facing the ground. Wow...seriously that part of the ride makes me hold on for dear life. The line is hit or miss....sometimes there is no one waiting at all and sometimes it takes a hour of a wait. You really just have to gauge it when you are there for yourself. My one tip...this is the single ride in the whole park that I will wait extra for the front seat. Once you get to the station where you can pick your row you might have to wait an extra 15 minutes for the front but the wait is totally worth it. :0) read more

First of all, any one who gives this ride a low rating based on long wait lines, complaining about flashpasses, the weather etc., should not do a review at all. The review should be solely based on the ride. When you come to an amusement park, you should already be prepared for long lines especially if you go during peak season. Six Flags has no control over the weather or how long the line gets due to the popularity of the ride. With that said, I have ridden this coaster during different times and seasons. Sometimes the line is long, sometimes its ok, and sometimes there is little to no wait. Yes, there is the flashpass option for an extra ridiculous fee so you don't have to wait so long but nobody is forcing you to get it or wait in line to ride this right? If you are just going to complain, then don't come at all. Now here's my opinions on the ride itself. First of all, its so very smooth. From the first day it opened up until whenever they finally tear it down, I think it will never change. You guys know how it is when any coaster gets old. It starts getting all jerky and kind of throws you around like a rag doll. As for the main features, yes that first drop is wicked. Its the climb up that hill that builds up to the climax of that 255 foot drop. It takes about a minute to get to the apex. To me that one minute seems to take forever but for you women, 60 seconds just might be too quick. ;) After that first drop, a cigarette might be in order. Just kidding. You still have another drop which is a little smaller, and then a curve banking to the left that makes you feel the G Strings.........I meant G Forces pushing down on you. What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, Goliath Condoms.......errr Coaster. Damn autocorrect! So don't let that first drop scare you. Especially if you are a guy. Man up and face your fear. I see little girls that barely measure over the 54 inch height requirement ride this over and over again with a smile. read more

I have walked on a bridge, ziplined, and skydived. That was all in 2014. BUT, there is a roller coaster that knocked me out for a couple seconds this year. I didn't think it was possible for a ride to do that after considering roller coasters being a downgrade from my death defying hobbies. I've been riding this since it opened back in 2000. Let's ride this behemoth, more exactly, a Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Skydiving at 12,500 feet is pretty high, but for some reason, Goliath's 255 foot drop seems to scare me even more. I remember riding Goliath when I was younger in the rain. It hurt so much I can still feel the pain as if it were a million bee stings. While most of the other roller coasters change color, Goliath still seems to have its same, cool colors. Even its entrance is always amazing. From the barefoot steps to the large letters of G-O-L-I-A-T-H. The entrance to Goliath is near the tall structure of Superman: Escape from Krypton. The queue line is probably the longest of all attractions. Its like entering a bunch of the same jungle over and over. Glad Six installed a lot of the vending machines through the queues. No more excuses since the vending machines accepts credit cards. After walking through the long queue, and I have yet to wait in line during those summer days, you'll head up to the loading station. Each train seats up to 30 people with 15 rows of two guests per ride. The ride has two restraining systems: a belt and a lap bar. Once the ride starts, you will be on one hell of a ride. The drop is the biggest drop and I'll let the drop describe itself. The second best feature of the ride is the intense G-Force. OK, when I mean, intense...I mean...INTENSE! When the train hits the tight turns, you will feel that it will be hard to raise your hands when 4.5Gs are pushing on you. Recently, I was knocked out for 2-3 seconds. Oh my! I did not like that feeling. I hate to say this, but it almost felt like I died and came back. I am not trying to scare anyone about this, but everyone is different. I may have forgot to grab something to eat. Goliath is one ride that I hope will stay around for a long time. I've had many precious moments and still more memorable moments with me fading out. As much as I like being shot out at incredible speeds or flipped in so many directions, Goliath was the original Six Flags attraction and it still brings in more guests every year. A 255-foot drop into a 120-foot underground tunnel at 85 mph?!? Oh yeah, and that drop is the FIRST thing you experience... Bring. It. Goliath is full of twists, turns, and a second, less steep drop that had my girlfriend freaking out (she'd never ridden Goliath before, and she was so nervous I offered my hand to hold - which she did in a death grip after the first drop pretty much the whole time). Fortunately, there were no loops, otherwise poor Kathy would've declared the day over. Oh, and I just couldn't help but yell, "WE'RE ALIVE!" after the ride ended. Unfortunately, riding Goliath comes at a huge cost... a REALLY LONG line and wait. When we went this past weekend, the wait was 2 hours - it just about hindered the rest of the day in terms of going on other rides. Not to mention there's nothing to really see in line, and the misters were infrequently placed. Plus hearing the nearby Superman: Escape From Krypton and Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom operating gets old fast. And those beverage machines halfway through the line? They cost $3.75. #ripoff Don't get me wrong; Goliath is worth riding, but just be prepared for a very long wait. read more

The first drop is the coolest!!!!! This is an older ride compared to all the new rides like X2 or Tatsu, but it's still that good. It is a fast moving coaster that doesn't go upside down, but it doesn't need to. The first drop is a high one and sets the tone for the rest of the ride. I'm gonna go ahead and review this because many are reviewing the lines and mad at those reviewing the lines. It is true, we're at Six Flags and long lines for thrilling rides is to be expected. The line for Goliath however, is extremely deceptive haha. I just laughed at how ridiculous it is. Had I known it was an obstacle course of a line, I probably would have skipped it. You go through a misting area, around the bamboo, up the stairs...it's just a lot of "Are we there yet?" It helps when the far end is visible, and that's just not the case here, hence those aggravating line reviewers. Now the ride... Great ride! Definitely in my top 5 before Scream and after Full Throttle. And like many great rides, you kind of forget about the line thereafter. So, to wait or not to wait? That is the question. If you choose to wait, I recommend downloading heads ups and playing with your crew in line. Good times! read more

That 45 degree drop in slow mo' really gets you, but the thrill isn't as much as X2 or Tatsu since your visibility is limited if you're sitting in the back rows of your cart. what an amazing ride! the line is so tranquil...you cant even get anxious while waiting, and waiting. you wind through walls of bamboo. the only thing that sux is that you cant see the front of the line...so you have no idea how long the wait is going to be. the ride was so exhilarating...cant wait to ride again. that first drop is so fun! then going into that tunnel...i thought i was going to hit my head! my kid is convinced that we went under ground...we'll go with that for now. read more

Goliath does not go upside down and have either loops or corkscrews, a fact that my friends related to me as we were standing in line that- to be honest- left me not expecting this to be much of a thrill. Boy, was I wrong! I think this coaster had the biggest drop of any roller coaster I've ever ridden! It was a super high speed twisty turning adrenalin pumping thill a minute! There is a moment, just as you reach the top of that first hill and just before you start down the first incline when the anticipation has built to such a point that you're ready to just explode with excitement, and the ride has only just begun! The g-forces on this one FELT more extreme than on the other coasters (except maybe for X2). I am a BIG fan of this one!! read more

OK so Goliath probably isn't truly "as good as it gets." But that doesn't stop me from absolutely loving this ride and giving it the five-star treatment. Even a decade after it opened, Goliath is still extremely smooth. The first drop may not sound that amazing on paper, but when do we ever ride coasters on paper? Combine that great first drop with an insane blackout-inducing climactic helix and you have yourself a world-class ride. Awesome. Arguably still the best coaster in the park. It doesn't have any of the features of some others (e.g. "floorless", "standing", etc). But it is such a fantastic coaster with a maximum speed of over 85 mph at the bottom of the first hill. There are several great coasters here, but Goliath is hard to beat. read more

Yes... there was a big drop, but the overall intensity wasn't nearly as enjoyable as Tatsu, Twisted Colossus, or Scream. There are better rides in the park. The line is also deceptive.
