There is so much beauty, architecture, history, plenty of space, high ceilings, exposed brick areas, not only a café, but also a place for lunch and other food items. There are charging stations at the bar at the back where they serve food. They have free bathrooms. The space is gigantic. The atmosphere here is very soothing and characteristic.
Went to Good Ambler for coffee on Friday afternoon and Ember convinced us to come back in the morning for their pasties during our weekend stay in Chicago. So we did! I chose the spinach-artichoke pastry and hubs had the ham & cheese croissant. Both items were delicious savory pastries with the flakiest crusts. Ember suggested the strawberry pastry for a sweet bite. Glad we listened. We split the soft fluffy pastry with stewed strawberries and a dollop of cream cheese. Yum!
Was looking to try some new pastries and came across Good Ambler. Midweek morning and I just beat the rush. Pastries are right up front when you order. Staff was very friendly and helpful on what to decide on. Ultimately ended up trying the almond coffee cake which had almond after every fluffy bite. Ham and cheese croissant was cheesy and salty to accompany the ham. The banana danish with whipped cream was a sweet ending to amazing pastries!
The overall experience was not what I expected of the highly praised Good Ambler. The ordering process felt chaotic and confusing, with no clear flow to how things are set up after you order. They do not ask for names and there was about 20 people standing there waiting for the drink order to be called and many confusing their drink for someone else's. Very chaotic and easily fixable. Seating is very limited, which makes it tough to find a spot if you actually want to enjoy your coffee or pastry there. The area is large but majority of the seating will be taken early so plan ahead. It also took much longer than expected for our order to be ready, granted it was busy. That said, the blueberry muffin was moist and delicious, and the coffees are authentic and well-made -- no shortcuts there. If you're willing to deal with the hassle, the food itself is good, but the atmosphere and execution really need improvement. Be more efficient but you got the business so I guess you do not need to improve?
Good Ambler today disappointed me. Staff member I interacted with was extremely unfriendly. I went up to order twice while I was there, and the same female took care of me. She was rude and negative both times. Other things to note: Your WiFi times out in 90 minutes, and you can only get certain pastries warmed up. They also told us we needed to leave our seats by 11:00am for an unknown reason. My iced lavender latte was very good, and so was the croissant. My friend did not enjoy the yogurt bowl. Pretty space but, needs more outlets. Good luck finding a table past 9:30.
Beautiful space for some alone work time or a coffee date. I came on a weekday morning and it was quite packed with lots of people working. I tried their matcha latte and bacon/gruyere quiche. Their matcha latte comes unsweetened and I thought it was perfect. The quiche had a nice consistency though I thought it could've been served a bit warmer. It wasn't overly salty and the crust was nice and flaky. I would love to try some of their pastries next time. The table was a bit wobbly so it felt unstable while eating the quiche, but otherwise I enjoyed the environment.
Seasonal lattes are intriguing. I got the toasted marshmallow latte, which was just fine. Would have wanted a much stronger toasted smoky flavor if it truly is toasted marshmallow and ultimately just tasted like a really sweet latte. 3/5 stars for this drink. The pastries are beautiful to look at for sure. We got the banana danish, which was good. 4/5 stars.
I always get a ham and cheese croissant when available, so I had to get one here. It was light, flavourful, and so buttery! It was a bit too crispy (a bit crunchy, even) for my tastes, but it didn't take away from much. The service at the counter is fast, efficient, and friendly. One thing that I absolutely love is that there is so much comfortable seating! Yeah, it's a large space, but it's very well done.
Lily took care of us and gave us a slew of recommendations. I had the Chai and my Partner had the London Fog (earl gray tea with milk) and a chocolate chip cookie and a cold brew black. Overall great service, awesome vibe for a hangout date or a WFH situation. Good music, lots of seating--will be back.
The iced london fog tea was actually better than I expected and a nice change from coffee. It was smooth and not too sweet. The service was quick and nice enough - they do expect you to know what you want and with the array of deliciously modeled baked goods (at high price points), it's hard to decide quickly which is why I ended up skipping out on them. This cafe is well known as a wfh spot but I didn't find it to be ideal for that. There are only a few tables that get taken up quickly so chances of finding one are slim. Plus they are close together along the wall so if you need to hop on any call or do some confidential work, it's more difficult. There are sofas in the middle for people to hang out and honestly I prefer this cafe more for that purpose. They're comfy and you're more likely to find space here. Overall a good cafe with nice looking pastries and drinks. Imo the atmosphere is better in pictures though, i was underwhelmed by the vibes and i think a part of that is the confusion of the overall layout and order process. I also don't think it's as big as people claim it to be, again probably because of the lack of seating and seemingly inefficient use of the space. There's better cafes in chicago

Fairly solid place. The drink menu is somewhat limited. The Cold Brew was a bit bitter. Great location and vibe inside. Super packed on the weekends but still found a place to sit. read more
I wanted to stop by this cafe as the interior vibes looked really cool. Unfortunately, the time I went they had an event booked within the next hour so a majority of the seating was blocked off and so it wasn't as comfortable to stay for a longer period of time. I ordered: - Chai latte - Ham & cheese croissant My chai latte was decent, I usually prefer quite a bit more spice though. Looking at older pictures of the menu, I did notice that it's changed from "chai tea" to just "chai" which is a detail I love! For some reason, when they warmed it up, my croissant was still cold in the middle even though the outside was warm. Which was a shame since I really liked the croissant, as there was some kind of whole grain mustard added inside which I really enjoyed. Hopefully can stop by again someday and spend a bit more time here. read more

Spacious lounge type coffee shop and bakery in the W Loop. Tons of people working here so it wasn't super easy to find a spot to catch up with a friend. But the coffee is strong and the pastries are solid. We loved the kouign amann and the muffins. They change up the selection from time to time so I will have to pop by again to try more! They were able to accommodate my preggo friend with a decaf coffee which was nice. Love the space, coffee & goodies! read more
Great spot for a quick coffee and pastry. It's roomy in here with a decent amount of seats. It does get a little busy on the weekends and there may be a small line, but be patient and good coffee is just a few minutes away. Came by on Saturday mid morning and there were a few people in line. We grabbed some seats as a party was leaving, so we were able to enjoy our coffee and croissants there. Ordered a mocha, cappuccino, ham and cheese croissant and classic croissant. The mocha and cappuccino had the milk art and it was almost too pretty to drink. Glad we did drink it, as it was very delicious. It wasn't overly sweet and you can taste the coffee. If you like sweet drinks, this is probably not the place for you. The ham and cheese croissant was so pretty - it has black and white sesame seeds on the outside. It was very good and very crispy on the outside and airy on the inside. Such a cute cafe!! Lots of seating! Beautiful pastries, many different options. I got the chocolate croissant! So pretty! Was super yummy too. Only thing was that I wish it was warm. Cute spot to meet up with friends. Go before noon or most pastries will sell out. We got there at 11:40am and were able to order all the pastries we wanted. By the time we left at 1:30pm the jalapeño cheddar bear claw and scones were all gone (I wanted to order more to take home ). Staff is friendly and all self serve. Pumpkin latte didn't taste any pumpkin spice though. Would come back! read more
Whoever does Good Amblers marketing deserves a raise! Whoever it is sure knows how to hype up a place. I cannot tell you the amount of Instagram videos and/or articles promoting Good Ambler as one of the best coffee/bakeries in Chicago. I was super disappointed when I actually showed up- staff didn't make any eye contact even though there were 3 of them working there. No one said, " what would you like to order? How can I help you? Do you need a minute?" absolutely nothing. I went around 11 am and the dessert menu was next to non- existent, with only a few croissants and mislabeled desserts. Didn't take a picture because I didn't want to tip off staff that I may be a yelper but thinking about it now in retrospect, they probably wouldn't have noticed anyways because they didn't even acknowledge me!There were plenty of chocolatiers to choose from but I wanted to try out a bakery dish. I went with the double chocolate croissant and only that because I couldn't see any other choices. It wasn't until tonight when I was looking at an IG Good Ambler promotion that I became aware that there is a breakfast menu?!? What?!? No one once mentioned it to me at the cafe. In fact I ordered my croissant (which btw they could have asked, "would you like that warmed up??") and it looked like a 5 star croissant but didn't taste like one just because it wasn't warm. It was crumbs galore on my clothes! Few ways this business could improve: - Amicable staff that actually makes eye contact and welcomes you with some type of joy to be at work. - Engage your customer, don't assume all of your customers are your regulars. I came all the way from Skokie to see why people are raving about your business. Sell me on why your coffee and bakery items are the bomb.com. Make me feel so at home that your business has to start putting a sign that says "tables reserves only for 2 hours" per payer. - overall better business model: how does someone who's never been there know that you have a menu if your staff isn't communicating that and they haven't reviewed Yelp? Do you have to order something from the menu to sit or is it just help yourself? There were no signs and like I said, staff just assumed I knew what to do. The space is beautiful and ideal for work from home environment or if you want to get away for girls time mid day. Probably one of the most spacious coffee/bakery shops I've ever been to. They do share the space with another business but that doesn't seem to get in the way of anything. read more
Good Ambler is the perfect spot to get some work done in the heart of the city! The atmosphere was very vibrant and welcoming and it felt like I walked right into a modern hotel lobby. They have a wide variety of pastries to choose from and I ordered the Green Mint Chocolate Croissant and an Iced Americano. The croissant was super flaky and wasn't too sweet with the Mint Chocolate! The Iced Americano was very refreshing and the perfect compliment to the pastry as well. The interior was very spacious and I noticed that there were tons of seating everywhere. There was ample seating options including private sofa spots equipped with outlets and a middle area full of tables. They have plenty of private bathrooms in the back which were super convenient. Keep in mind that the cafe has complimentary Wi-Fi with a 90 minute limit so make sure you join the wifi strategically to your work/study plan. In conclusion, Good Ambler is my go-to study spot in the city and I'll be returning to try their other pastries and drinks! read more

Dude, it was so hard to leave this place lol. Place is too chill. Spacious interior with rustic decor all around. Perfect place to lounge. Oh, yes, about the food and drinks here. I tried I few things: Strawberries & cream croissant: the lady at the counter told me that this was her personal favorite so I just had to try it myself. Wowow. The croissant's surface was flaky and its inside was fluffy. It was jam-packed (pun intended) with strawberry preserves and whipped cream. Reminded me of a strawberry Toaster Strudel but 20x better! I was planning to eat half of it and save the rest for a later time but I pretty much inhaled it in one sitting lol. Pistachio gateaux: wished that there was more of a pistachio flavor to it but the light cream and spongy cake layers were divine. The fresh raspberries were like the cherries on top; brightened the taste of the cake and made all of the different flavors of the cake come together. Lemon poppyseed cake: the cake was a tad dry but I loved how crispy the thin lemon glaze was. The glaze definitely packed the punch in bold lemon tartness. Ham & cheese croissant: geezus, and I thought the croissant of the strawberries & cream one was great. The croissant of this one was AMAZING! Even more delectably flaky (countless amount of croissant layers!) and the inside was as delicately-soft as a dinner roll. Wished that there was more ham inside of the croissant (croissant seemed a bit hollow), but this is a nitpick when accounting for how fantastic the croissant bread was. Matcha tea: ehh I didn't save the best for last. Contrary to how much vibrant green it was, it had very little matcha flavor. Only good for the photo op. Staff was incredibly friendly. I went back to the counter because I wanted to get a ham & cheese croissant for my sister for her to try (I ate this croissant and the pistachio gateaux at the place with the rest of my haul being for to-go). Thought it would be awkward getting served by the same lady at the counter but she was glad that I was buying more lol. Right when I was about to leave the place she hoped that my sister enjoys the croissant. So sweet! I'm going to be *that* reviewer and say that the pastries here are pretty much on par with those at Seattle bakeries. Very impressed by the croissants in particular. Such a cute coffee shop!! Their staff was nothing but helpful & polite. The interior is spacious, perfect for reading a good book while sipping your favorite coffee. Their chocolate croissants and brioche are no joke. The second you bite into one it's so flaky with just the right amount of smooth chocolate. Their savory options are honestly a pass, not much flavor for the price point. For future Chicago trips I'd visit again for sure. read more
Hello Good Ambler! I feel like I have to start this by saying that the people who have recommended this cafe to me are the TRENDIEST people I have ever met! I'm talking clean-girl-aesthetic, beis-bag-in-hand, TRENDY! Of course, Good Ambler meets this standard. This is a great place to get work done... if you can find a seat! Something that exceeded my expectations, was the quality of food and drink! Sometimes when you go to these "hip" spots, you're really paying for the vibes. Fortunately, Good Ambler's offerings are... good! The Americano was solid, according to my coffee-expert partner (I can't have coffee, but it looked great!)! Wow! Came here today i.e a Sunday morning. Highly recommend this spot especially if you are into Pastries! Definitely, the coffee is good but pastries win over the coffee is what I felt. Definitely try the following pastry- - Pain Au Lait Why ? This pastry has creamy filling and the crust is flaky as well !! There are chocolate pieces as well in it. Definitely recommend if you love a chocolate + creamy filling :-) Coffee was just as good ! We ordered the Oat latte and Cappuccino! Vibe-y, sleek coffee shop located in Fulton Market that fits the bill for your typical West Loop establishment. Pros: - large spacious cafe with a great variety of seating options -- lots of couches for socializing, with some tables scattered throughout for those there to work - pastries are baked fresh from the kitchen! Fresh batches were brought out intermittently throughout the day, and they smelled so buttery and yummy. Wish I had gotten a chance to snag a croissant while I was there. Pastries seem to be the highlight of the offerings available at this cafe Cons: - super busy; hard to secure a great place to sit especially if there to be productive - minimal outlets especially if sitting at the center tables - loud! not too terrible if you don't mind the ambient noise and/or have great noise-cancelling headphones - coffee options are pretty standard and nothing too exciting Overall, wouldn't come here again to do work or study as it was a bit too busy and loud for me. Checked out Good Ambler - super cute space - big cafe with lots of seating but get here early in the day to get a spot. We got a pumpkin pastry/croissant and a chocolate chip cookie. Both were really good - the pastry was very buttery and rich; the cookie was super decadent. Our hostess was very friendly and helped us choose options. Great coffee shop in Chicago! read more

Really loved this spot. I stopped by yesterday with my boss to have breakfast. The ambiance is great, there's so much seating, and the coffee and pastries are perfection. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and a chocolate coffee cake. The coffee cake is so large, but I sure did eat all of it. I originally planned to order the quiche, because I had heard such great things, but the coffee cake was calling my name from the display case. My latte was as expected, pretty good. They do only have paper straws, so if you don't love that, bring your own straw. read more
My review is only based on the pastries, since I was just in and out of this place. Maybe if I came back and actually sat inside to enjoy a drink/pastry, my thoughts on this place would change. The interior is absolutely stunning!! Very spacious too. It's not very common to have such pretty chandeliers in a coffee shop. The pastries I tried myself were the chocolate croissant and the almond financier. The chocolate croissant was just ok. I've had better. The outside of the croissant itself was pretty and unique. I just wish there was more chocolate inside the croissant. When ordering the almond financier, I had no idea what that was. Since it was almond, I'd figure I would like it since I love almond cake. It basically is a small almond cake. I was surprised to bite into some fruit on the inside which was a nice surprise. I will say, the prices here were not bad. I paid $13 for 3 pastries. I've paid way more for 3 pastries at other bakeries/coffee shops. read more

Fast and friendly service, cosy interior and delicious cold brew. The chocolate croissant is also to die for. The places seemed tucked away compared to some of the other coffee bars around West Loop. If you want seating it may take a while on weekends. read more

I am obsessed with this place. I've tried so many croissants here and I'm always blown away. I haven't found another croissant in Chicago that compares to the ones here. The coffee is some of the best in Chicago. The ambience is so cute too. In the back you can watch them make chocolate. I met the manager here and she is so sweet and gave me all the Chicago recommendations I haven't tried. Really high quality pastries in a beautiful location! This shop is located in the Fulton Market district and definitely is worth a visit for their delicious freshly made pastries! Some of the standouts include the chocolate croissant and the kounig- amann. The coffee was good too, more on the standard side, but a perfect complement to the yummy pastries! A bonus is that the aesthetic/decor is beautiful and there are plentiful seats/tables to study at. One thing to note is that the nearby paid parking is quite expensive, approximately $4.75 an hour via the Park Chicago app, so if you're planning on staying a few hours to study it might get expensive to pay for parking. There are free parking spots 5-6 blocks out which you may be able to find if you circle around but in the winter it may be too cold to walk. read more

Good Ambler is the place to go for an amazing croissant, and a calming atmosphere to work on your projects! Public wifi access is only for around an hour or so, but the ambience here is very nice. If you're ever around the area, feel free to drop in and partake in an stress-free environment and have a croissant! (I cannot stress it enough lol- the chocolate croissant was so good!) I'm planning on making this a regular place for myself because of how beautiful and spacious the place is. You definitely will not feel awkward being here as a solo coffee drinker (or with a group). read more

This place did not disappoint. There was a pretty long line but we got to the front in ~10-15 minutes. - Ham and cheese croissant: croissant was super flaky and the sesame seeds were a nice touch! The ham was a little dry though. - Kouign amann: buttery flaky caramelized crispy goodness. Yum! And not too sweet, which was a plus. A must try! - Coconut ginger cake: was a little skeptical at first (I'm not the biggest fan of ginger) but this was PHENOMENAL. Both texture and flavor were on point. Also a must try! read more

So glad I stopped by while running errands. This is a gem. Parking was an issue - snow and middle of the day with many deliveries in the area. So, we got it to go. The vanilla latte was a much needed nice warm, cozy hug today. Smooth flavor. Not too acidic. Not too sweet. Not overly flowery. Just the right balance of flavor and coffee. And when I finished the drink I was pleasantly surprised to find little black vanilla seeds on the inside of the cup. The pastries were magnificent. Although I do think the chocolate croissant would be better slightly warm. Both were flaky, buttery and delicate. When the weather is a bit warmer and parking is a little easier I will definitely be back to sit inside. For now, when I'm in the neighborhood I will gladly grab a cup for the road. read more

Good Ambler has a fresh and modern aesthetic! My friend and I stumbled upon this cafe after finishing lunch at a nearby restaurant. Though we were very full, we couldn't resist the big selection of sweet and savory baked goods behind the glass window. Not only did their mini bread loaves catch our eyes, but their chocolate bonbons looked very good as well. We ordered a custom box of chocolate bonbons and were very impressed! I definitely recommend this place for when you want to get some studying done or to catch up with friends. read more

We were in Chicago for a few days and Good Ambler was recommended for its pastries. I learned that an ambler is someone who walks at a leisurely pace, and that was definitely the vibe we were trying to capture during our trip (rather than rushing through the city's top attractions). We ordered a cruffin, ham & cheese croissant, and smoked salmon sandwich, alongside a latte and london fog. Their food is 10/10 - I especially loved the texture of their baked goods. The space is huge, and would be a fantastic place to get some work done. Though it was a rainy Friday morning when we visited, there was a steady stream of customers. Another amazing coffee shop in Chicago checked off my list! And wow, this a good one. Good Ambler is in the heart of the West Loop just off Fulton Market. The large interior space seems to be shared with another business, but I was too wrapped up by all the pretty pastries and smells of espresso to pay it much mind or catch a name! The space is gorgeous and BIG. Filled with greenery and tons of space to work or grab a coffee with a friend. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'm fairly certain I'd become a regular. There was a line but it went quick. The baked goods all looked phenomenal, so we picked two that intrigued us and had the barista surprise us with a third. The beverage menu is pretty limited, but in a way that says they know good coffee and don't need to hide behind a bunch of flavors and cold foam to taste good (totally guilty of loving those kinds of coffees though). They did have a pumpkin spice special that I tried because ~fall~, and grabbed an iced mocha for my husband and a cold brew for his friend. Our favorite pastry by FAR was the Kouign Amann. Not to say the others weren't amazing, this was just that good. It's kind of like a croissant on steroids and coated in a caramelized shell. If you visit the Good Ambler, you must try this! We also tried the pistachio financier and some sort of hazelnut muffin. I was seriously impressed by the baked goods, and I'm already planning another trip back to Good Ambler :) read more
One of the best butter croissants I've had in the city. Usually you need to toast them to get the crispy effect. Not here! The pastries are baked on site, and you can watch everything happening. Drip coffee was wonderful as well. Croissant + Coffee + Tip was around $10 all in. Space is so beautiful - everything is spaced out and there's a ton of space to work for the day. We tried the Chocolate Croissant / Tiramisu / Latte / London Fog - Earl grey tea latte with vanilla bean, honey, grapefruit, orange, lemon peel I enjoyed all of the food and drinks above. Chocolate croissant had perfect texture balance of flakiness and softness. Tiramisu was an elevated or at least different version of typical tiramisu and i would recommend for sweet tooths. Although the lattes weren't bad, I couldn't taste the full range of ingredients that are apparently in the London fog. Maybe it takes a coffee snob to taste those subtle flavors. Love the spacious interior. The furniture is good for hanging out but not working/studying. I also like the smaller menu. Employees were very nice. read more
