I take classes through ClassPass and Up Yoga is my most frequented studio. Very grateful they are on ClassPass! The studio is inviting and very straight forward. There is street parking and small lots on either side of the building (you probably aren't supposed to park in front of the cremation society during their business hours, but when I go to class the lot is empty and it's after hours, so I park there). You check in at the front desk, leave your shoes and jacket in the lobby, then head into the studio. They have so many class times to choose from, and they stagger the times just right so if you're someone like me who arrives 15 minutes to each class, you don't have to awkwardly wait around for another class to get out before you can go in. It's nice getting adjusted to the heat in the studio before you start moving. I would definitely recommend arriving at least a couple minutes early. You bring your own mat and water bottle. They provide weights, blocks, and towels. They also have cubbies inside of the studio for you to put your belongings, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own lock or leaving your stuff unattended. They also have bathrooms and a changing room if you're coming right from work. I cannot recommend Up Yoga enough!!

There is a strong sense of community community at Fly Freak - students and staff both are so accepting and encouraging. I love how everybody cheers when someone does a trick for the first time! I love chair dance (shout out to Kit!), aerial yoga (all the teachers for this are phenomenal) and Sling (my go to teachers are Clara, Christy and Hayley, but I've never had a instructor I didn't like!). I also love the workshops and special events - self defense classes, guardian and kiddo classes, sound baths and my personal favorite, photo shoots! If you're looking for a new obsession or even just want to try something different, you won't regret going to Fly Freak. ​

The instructors she had were really encouraging, which made a big difference for my soft-spoken kiddo. I noticed that on days she went to class, she slept better and her overall mood improved. Since a lot of sports and physical activities for kids tend to be competitive, which isn't really her thing, Fly Freak has been a great alternative. If you're looking for a way for your child to move around that also helps with regulation, I definitely recommend giving Fly Freak a try!

Every class is 45-minutes which is perfect vs. typical 60-minutes fitness classes which in my opinion, helps you get in and out quickly allowing extra time for errands, commuting, etc. The studio is brand new so of course it's extremely clean, the parking is still under construction (but will be done soon) and the staff was welcoming and kind. You do need to have clip in shoes in order to cycle which you can bring your own or rent and there is a water fountain to fill up water bottles. Cycling is done to the beat of the music with candles and dim lights. One unique thing about this studio is that there is free child care on-site. Mother and baby yoga consists basically of moms moving their babies gracefully and purposefully around their bodies while doing modified yoga poses. The class emphasizes following one's own energy levels and listening to one's baby; the teacher "invited" us to do a lot of basic elements of yoga (breathing or more advanced poses). But here's the thing. It wasn't yoga. It was gentle baby swinging. And it wasn't even yoga for the baby, since most of them cried or slept. It wasn't even relaxing, because I had to deal with my baby. What I REALLY wanted was for someone to take the damn baby so I could do some yoga.

There is some free street parking (though it's limited), and a parking lot across the street that's $1. I signed up via ClassPass for an R&B Restore evening class. I saw the string lights leading up the stairs to the studio and knew this was going to be a cool spot. I love low lighting, especially for yoga! When I stepped into the studio welcome area...wow. The neons, the swinging chair, the cool lights: it all felt so relaxing and zen. I was instantly greeted by Angel, who was so welcoming and friendly for my first time. As people trickled in I could tell there is a solid community here that accepts and welcomes everyone. Angel showed me around to the bathrooms and shower rooms (BYOTowel!) and brought me into the studio where mats were already set up for class. They have one room for now, and a second is under construction for yoga teacher training. Y'all. This room! Neon at the front, walls lined with faux vines, lined with lights and faux candles, and a lit-up cloud creation on the ceiling. I could feel my muscles instantly relax and my jaw loosen. I felt so peaceful. Angel's restore class was nothing short of exceptional. The poems and phrases she shared were so impactful, her playlist was spot on (to the point where almost everyone in class begged her for the playlist after), and the energy in the room was so healing. Truly one of the best classes I've taken in years. After class, several of us chatted with Angel as we packed up. I felt so restored - this definitely won't be my last visit to 612 Jungle! I'm dying to try their other workout formats and meet other instructors.

Great attention to the unique needs of every student 3. Excellent cues and attention to coaching proper form without overwhelming students I feel like I progress in every class bc each instructor also brings their own flavor and vibe getting to know their students and helping them advance. Studio is clean and cheery. Equipment is well maintained. Instructors are extremely caring, knowledgeable, and empathetic. Notes for those considering pilates for the first time. Start with private lessons. Get the basics down. Then switch to a class that consistently has 6 or less students. A good instructor should be very hands on and have the ability to coach all students in their class vs just call out the sequence. pilates is all about proper form and fine tuning of muscles for optimum performance. Too large of a class and you won't get the optimal benefit out of the class bc the instructor won't be able to individually observe and guide you.
