We went for a friend's birthday dinner and had a great time. The food was delicious, the service by Natalie was excellent, and even though we were earlier than our reservation we were seated right away and ordered cocktails. We shared a loaded nachos appetizer plate (huge portion!) and then decided on the Lasagne, Steak Sandwich, and Turkey Pesto sandwich entrees--everything was plentiful and tasty. Worst hostess experience ever. We were told 30 minutes to an hour wait. After more than an hour, hostess said she wouldn't be able to seat us for dinner. WTF. Bartender was very accommodating and we ate in the bar. Food was good. read more

THE GOOD COMPANY WAS IN FACT NOT GOOD! We came in a group of 31 so we knew what we were getting into. We had two servers for our two tables, one was absolutely fantastic she had a smile on her face the whole time but the other one was either having an off day or is bad at her job. She forgot about one of our meals and the cook was not happy. The food was mid... personally I had the French Dip which was one of their specialties (not done right). Some others in the group enjoyed their steaks and wraps. We were told we couldn't do separate checks by the one waitress but the other was not on the same page because she was ready to split for our table. This is a local place that's been in business for a long time. The building is huge. We sat in the French Quarter themed area. The ceilings were very high, and sound echoed some. But with so much space, they've kept the tables spread out, and though we were seated near two groups of 10-12, the noise level was ok. Service was good, starting with a very engaging and friendly hostess. Our server seemed very new, but did well. The food was really good pub grub. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries and my wife had French onion soup and a baked potato. All was very good. The kitchen was doing very well, the two large groups ordered before us, but our orders came quickly. The group's food all came out together, and looked great. Made reservations for 6 pm 2 weeks ago. arrived at 530 pm and was told they didn't have our reservation, but said we would be seated with in 30-45 min. After our third attempt to ask about when we could be seated they finally sat us down 645. We waited 10 minutes just for the waitress to arrive and explained to her we had to be Preforming Arts Center at 8:0O We all knew what we wanted off the menu because we all looked at the menu while waiting at the bar. The waitress said she would put in a RUSH order and apologized. It was not her fault At 7:25 we all felt we had to leave to go and our food still hadn't arrived I asked to speak with a manager and after 5 minutes, began walking out when we were asked again if we wanted to speak to a manager and responded yes if they could do it now. The hostess said she couldn't guarantee when the manager will make it down. Upon leaving another large group was entering and we heard the hostess tell them it would be an hour and a half to an hour and forty five minute wait to be seated. We told them our situation and the hostess said we didn't have reservations. Bottom line, we had a 6 pm reservation, arrived at 5:30 and left the restaurant close to 7:30 without having any food. Unacceptable to say the least. That explains your overall rating on Yelp. read more

We did not have a reservation but there were plenty of tables available for seating. Ambiance is cozy and a little dated which makes it charming. The space is really big with several dining rooms, a big bar area, and an events room. Our server was friendly and pretty quick to get our order in and get us drinks. The menu is big with a good selection of soups, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and entrees. This is a good menu for picky eaters as there are a lot of very basic pasta/sandwich/entree options. We ordered wine first. The wine list is very average/grocery store wine varieties. My friend and I split the queso dip and added beef. The appetizer was average. Queso was pretty good, chips just tasted like your standard grocery store variety. I had the California Chicken Salad for lunch. Again, this item was very average. You could definitely tell the chicken was pre-cooked/frozen as it had that slightly rubbery texture but not inedible. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and would probably visit again as you don't need a reservation and it's centrally located. The food, unfortunately, is not the star of the show here. read more

Great ambiance with quirky decor and a maze of rooms add to the dining experience. The food was good but unremarkable (above average pub fare). My wrap was very good, but I could not taste the avocado that was listed in the menu description. The French Dip was tasty. The French Fries could use improvement. My Brandy Old Fashioned was well made (our pleasant server politely steered me away from the cocktails that were premixed) - I ordered a second one! Good service and reasonable prices. After being just about through with my entrée the server asked me if I wanted a refill, no, that's wrong, I had to ask her. After about 10 minutes the water never came, we paid the bill and left. This was our first visit to Good Company, we plan to return. We found the prices to not be out of line, even reasonable for the times. Our food was delicious and hot when served. Our server was very new, and although she needed a bit more training and support, she was very pleasant and personable. We enjoyed the historic focused decor. This appears to be an older restaurant. When you arrive at the place the appearance outside makes you wonder what's inside. You are greeted by the host and she was very pleasant. It's really hard to tell if the place is clean or not because it is so dark inside. Our waitress greeted us and she was very pleasant but never cracked a smile. I ordered the French dip sandwich. Our food came out quite quickly and the sandwich was delicious! I was very happy with that. I had French fries with my sandwich and they were way too salty and I LOVE salty stuff. The bathrooms are dirty. That always makes me question the food when there are dirty bathrooms. I consider this an average place to eat in Appleton. Nothing I write home about lol read more

An Appleton staple. This historic place has been nestled in the corner of College Ave and Richmond St for decades. I come here and typically sit in the bar area. And always order a Bloody Mary. This is the place that first introduced me to a beef stick in the bloody. They also add a crunchy piece of bacon, cheese and the other usuals. I like the garnish but the actual drink is delicious. Served with a mini tobassco bottle. You get to spice it up as much as you want. And the bottle is adorable! I have not had any bad food here, but I know people who have. Ask the waitstaff about the ghost in the basement and you will have some entertaining stories. The decor has a European feel in the main dining room and it's a place you can be comfortable in jeans and tee or you can be dressed up and make it a special place for a romantic night. Not far from Appleton's nightlife, this is a perfect pregame place. On your way out don't forget to turn the knob on the candy machine by the cashier. No coins needed. What was once a a fun date night stop for my wife and I isn't what it used to be. We enjoy the unique dining atmosphere Good Co provides, but the menu has changed (removing my go to NY Strip). On our most recent visit, we were seated for 20 mins before my wife walked up front inquiring about our server. A few moments later, our drink order gets taken, nearly half an hour after we were seated and we still hadn't received our drink orders. They had a Friday fish special, and I chose the broiled haddock. It came with a salad, roll, and potato. Fish was cooked well and the potato had been baked in foil and was also good. Anyone who has watched a Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares would give the advice to pare down the menu to fewer choices and focus on the quality of those. I went here for my birthday dinner and got the chicken tenders. I got food poisoning from them later that night and thank god my friends couldn't sleep over because it was a week day because I vomited everywhere. I threw up probably over 20 times. At one point it got so bad I had nothing left in my body that I had to drink water so my body had something to throw up. I used to come here all the time when I was in College, and returned with my family for a pre-Mother's Day dinner. I always remembered it being an A-OK experience, and this recent visit was the same. It was busy, so we put our name in for the wait (we were told about 45 minutes for a table of 5). We went and grabbed a table in the bar area (thankfully they have free popcorn, because we were all starving!). A server told us we could just order food in the bar area, but we wanted to wait and have the full sit-down experience. As we waited, the bar filled up, to the point where it was noisy and hard to move around (people trying to get to the table behind us kept elbowing me in the back). It reminded me of a popular bar on a Friday night in Chicago, and that's not a compliment! We were seated after about 50 minutes of waiting (I had just gone up to check on our seats when our table was magically available). Once we were seated, it was an okay experience. I had the cod with a salad, and both were fine. The salad is your standard starter salad you'll see at any mid-level restaurant, nothing special. The cod was good, they give you lots of pieces and it was flavored and breaded nice, but when they served us they told us that the order was short one piece (the server joked that the cook got hungry and ate it, um, okay . . .). They did bring the piece out once it was cooked, it was just kind of weird. Service was okay, not great, but not horrible. Prices are fairly reasonable, you do get a lot of food for what you pay for. Here is my issue with 'Good Company' my daughter who by the way is extremely successful and has way graduated from using her dad's cell phone plan and has a great job in upstate NY... well she called this place to work for 'BAD COMPANY'. She said while working there, the owners were rude to her. Totally snubbed her. She told me "Dad, no one there is happy". I did not believe her. But I always felt a 'low vibe at this joint so I got what she said' So I went there when she said that.... I remembered back to all previous visits and yes: no one does look happy. And most recently: there apex 2 weeks ago and did not take any pics: it took a long time to get my French dip. 35 minutes. Also noted: the prices really are not that great. They are actually on the expensive side. My friend footed the bill as we had not seen each other in a long time. He invited me there and insisted on laying. That was nice of my bro. He used to always go there. Born and raised in Appleton. Well he had a real-estate apnt and kept looking at his watch. He literally asked the waitress "Ms, we have to leave soon. I have a very important appointment". Now I will say the food was kinda hot. The bun for the bread was dry. But it wasn't anything special. And with tip and stuff I know my buddy shelled out close to 40. Easy. I had a coffee. He has a beer and ice water. I had a French dip and friends. He has a VERY small side salad and a burger and fry. Noted: I don't like cold fries. Fresh fries I do like. What I notice about this place that is good. It's big. What is sad about this place, it is empty at the busy time and SLOW for service. They really are understaffed. Trust me when I say when my daughter got a diff job after college, she was very happy to give her two week notice. I will not go into details. I was hesitant to try this restaurant because of some of the negative reviews. I'm glad I put those aside and had lunch here. The chili is delicious! I also had the fried cod also amazingly tasty and a large portion. Could easily feed two petite eaters. My server was very attentive. The establishment claims this turn of the twentieth century building that use to house a paper company is haunted! I don't believe in ghosts, so you know, I just prayed a blessing over the building! I love the history none the less. There are many antiques throughout and many secret rooms and passages. It would be cool if tours were offered! Do yourself a favor and plan a meal here. read more

This was the only place open on Easter and we were in town running work and building homes errands. We called to make a reservation for 12:30. Not sure why they required that since the restaurant was basically empty when we walked in. Anyway, we were immediately seated in the way back of the restaurant which was bizarre since there were plenty other nicer spots to sit. Like booths in the bar and 4 booths right off the bar. We sat down and a short time later our waiter appeared. He asked if we wanted anything to drink, I had the bloody mary and hubby had a limon and soda. From the picture I posted of the bloody mary you will be astonished. Who is the bar manager here? A beef stick, that's all you get for garnish I guess. How disappointing. No pickle, no olive. Unreal. Anywho, ordered the baked potato soup, was hot and ok. Sort of reminded me of campbell's from a can. I ordered the potato skins and hubby ordered the cispy chicken, bacon and cheddar sandwich. Both were very good. I had to ask for napkins and silverware. Why should I have to ask for the standard tableware? Odd. Anywho, the waiter was pretty green. Service nothing to write home about. Broke a golden rule.... Read the Yelp reviews as I was sitting in the restaurant!!! There is a reason that after 42 reviews this place gets a 2.5! The few points might be for semi quick service or the cool atmosphere but I would be surprised if it is the food! I had below average "loaded" potato soup... Warm (at best)and a few lumps of potato and some fake bacon bits. Bland and blah. My Rueben simply sucked! The sandwich was only warm enough to slightly melt the cheese. The meat was processed sliced corned beef... No flavor at all except the thousand island sauce and toasted bread! Too bad, this seems like it could be a fun place to eat. The staff should have some pep to make the décor. Our waitress brought no enthusiasm to the table whatsoever. She would have fit in better at the local diner slinging hash.
