decent bar with a lot of food selections. we ordered the good dog burger, clam linguine, and falafel. the burger was pretty good, with grilled onions and a lot of meat. the only thing was the meat was a bit dry and didn't taste that fresh. the clam seafood linguine was okay. there was a lot for quantity but the taste was overpowered with the wine they used in the sauce and vinegar. it might be to conceal the taste of not so fresh seafood within the dish. the bread was a little stale too. falafel was dry and not great to be honest. however, our server was extremely nice and the atmosphere within the bar was great! read more

Met some friends in the city and decided this place sounded like fun! It definitely was, great atmosphere and I absolutely loved the dog pics all over the place. We parked in a garage a block away, street parking is tough in this area but you can find it if you are patient. Drinks were good, I had the espresso martini and it hit the spot. Maybe just needed some salt and pepper but I was hoping for more. The Mac and cheese was more Mac than cheese. I like my Mac swimming in a rich creamy cheese sauce, this was not what I was looking for, but it was decent. The steak tacos were the best of the dishes we ordered, I just wish they came with a side of salsa. Our server, Logan, was fantastic. bartenders are all wonderful and kind, food is great. the manager with the beard is the most rude person i've ever interacted with in a service industry setting and as a bartender myself, i experience a lot of rude people so this is really impressive as far as the level of rude. he came to me, while im sitting at a table for two directly next to another table for two. i was there holding the seats for less than 2 minutes as the rest of my party was parking the car. he asked if i have more people joining me (bc obvi i can't hold 2 whole tables if im alone) i told him yes people were parking the car and on the way up. he then smiled sarcastic and large and started talking slow like i was 3 years old and said "this is two tables for two people. i'm sitting someone at the one you're not sitting at". the couple he was trying to seat at the moment felt the awkwardness and wanted to sit elsewhere as they were also aware i had 3 people joining me. i asked if there was a rule because there's no table for three people. its tables for two or four so if 3 people can't sit at a 4 top, are parties of 3 not allowed to sit for food? he walked away in the middle of my sentence and then sat a party of 2 at another 4 top. so clearly there was no rule, he just has power trip issues. i was told by a worker that he's always like this when it's busy and that he can't handle stress. i texted my friends and told them not to come and then left. i've come here 3 times a week for over a month and tip 30-45% every time, two of the bartenders on the second floor know me and my order by heart but this manager is going to be the reason these bartenders lose good tippers and customers in general. do better little man read more

PLEASE NOTE: This was for delivery. We were really, really excited about Good Dog Bar: 1) Their full menu is available until 1am for takeout and delivery! 2) They have a dedicated allergy menu! Where it fell apart for us the delivery (and while I know this has NOTHING to do with Good Dog Bar, it was still a part of our overall experience); we were never notified that our food arrived, so when we finally found the brown paper bag... the food inside was room temperature and soggy. The Vegan Cheesesteak (pea protein, mushrooms, onions, and vegan pepper jack tucked inside a long seeded roll with a side of hot cherry peppers and a side of skin-on fries) I think WOULD be good eaten at the restaurant. Ours was gelatinous and not nearly as filled as the photos I've seen people post from dining in. The fries, again, weren't as generous a portion as it seems you get at the restaurant; ours were also wet, limp, and flavorless. Despite my experience, I WOULD recommend this place for vegans who want a cheesesteak while in Philadelphia! I just would NOT recommend getting it as takeout or delivery. I had a lovely time at Good Dog Bar after a work event with the Yelp Philly CM. It was right next to my hotel. I love that it was in a super walkable part of town. This local haunt is divey in the best way possible. It's unassuming and has great food and drinks. I love the dog pictures that line the wall and the cozy interior. Our server was super kind and quick to take our orders. I tried the creamy mac and cheese. I'm a bit picky with my mac and cheese and found myself wishing there was a bit more of a kick to this. It was still super creamy and rich. My coworkers ordered their burgers which looked like the real star of the show here. Those burgers looked incredible and I wish I had ordered that. On my next visit, I will definitely be ordering that. I also got a very tasty apple mule mocktail that I highly recommend. read more

We spent almost $200 in 60 minute span- paid the bill, had a last beer delivered and our waiter said we could not stay at our table despite just delivering us full beers. At 6:30 on a Monday, the place was quite busy. We were able to get a booth. I didn't see any tables for large groups downstairs. Most of the bar area and tables were full when we started ordering. The beer selection is diverse and prices are reasonable. For my main dish, I had to try to vegan Philly Cheesesteak. You might say that this is quite blasphemous being in Philly and doing vegan. I'm not sure how they did it, but it was very tasty. They also have some awesome fries with it. As far as parking, find a lot or garage or it's better to use mass trans or bike. read more

We were having an amazing night in the city with extended family members, and around 11:45 pm some of us decided to go to Good Dog for one last drink. There were about 7 of us, including some older aunts and uncles. We walked in, got ID by the bouncer (who wasn't friendly) and then we went to sit down at a table on the first floor. We were informed that if we wanted to sit, we ALL had to order our own meal (at midnight on a Thursday). I asked if we could just order a few apps and drinks because it was now MIDNIGHT and no one was hungry. We were told no and that if we wanted to just drink we had to go to the third floor. Begrudgingly, we walked up the stairs to the third floor. On our way, we passed the second floor room with MULTIPLE tables open. We went to sit because our 65 year old aunt wanted to sit. We tried to and the server immediately came over and asked "are you ordering food?" Again, We said we would order some appetizers. She immediately told us that we had to go to the third floor if we weren't ordering a full meal at midnight. This is when my aunts and uncles left and 2 of us stayed behind to have one drink on the third floor. This place is cool, just super unfortunate they have this bizarre rule and wouldn't accommodate us at all. I've said it a few times but it was midnight on a Thursday, we shouldn't have had problems sitting down and having one more beer for the night. read more

I opted for a classic margarita and our party of 4 shared a few appetizers: fried mozzarella, buffalo wings, and the empanadas. My margarita was SPECTACULAR. Had an amazing post-Broad Street Run experience here at Good Dog Bar, a Rittenhouse favorite for their great draught list, food menu, and speedy service. Add in the massive wall of dog portraits and you have my idea of a practically perfect establishment! They had a fantastic sour on tap from a brewery called Urban Artifact, and I also absolutely destroyed their grilled chicken BLT - a perfect after run sandwich. Exceeds expectations for a hole in the wall kind of neighborhood bar, and is one of my favorite kind of places to spend an evening or afternoon. My fellow GDB enthusiasts really enjoyed the burger and short rib grilled cheese as well - many good food options all around.
