Cavanaugh's was a delightful place to visit while in Philly! A busy sports bar right downtown with the traditional sports bar feel (nice, large bar, louder environment and TVs with sports games on all over) and food options, but tasted much better than most normal sports bars! My wife and I had split a couple of appetizers, including their brussel sprouts and Philly cheese steak egg rolls, both of which were incredibly delicious! My only minor complaint was the slightly slow service but, it was a busy Halloween weekend, coupled with the World Series on TV, so I definitely understand the situation. Overall, well worth a try if you're in town for an event or want a great place to eat and watch sports!

Cavanaugh's is a solid sports bar in Rittenhouse, Philadelphia. It skews towards a younger crowd and although we're not that, we fit in wonderfully. The staff were very sweet and efficient. We watched the Eagles game eating potato tots, chicken wings and sandwiches. Good times!

The bartender was great--friendly but gave you space. I think I'll enjoy the pierogies more when I'm a bit tipsy, but since I was able to think clearly at that time, they tasted just "meh" to me. As for the wings, the phrase "award-winning" is a bold statement; I appreciate the confidence, but I've tasted better. I do like the size of those thiccc wings, though. I just wish they were crispier and had more flavor in the sauce. Overall, it wasn't bad. I'd give it a 7.2.

My first time at Cavanaugh's since the move and I had a good time. Upstairs was kind of crowded for the Palmetto Bowl so I stayed up there briefly then found a spot at the downstairs bar where I was able to meet some folks who lived within walking distance. We chatted a bit, I offered some beer options that I thought they'd enjoy as I indulged in a Goose Island Boubon County Stout which is absolutely delicious! Available only on the main floor and is greatly recommend. The Saturday night college football atmosphere did not disappoint at all. Maybe, a little too accommodating trying to satisfy everyone with games on the tvs which is never a thing cause someone will find a reason to complain, but overall I appreciated the effort to show as many games as possible. It was great seeing everyone in their college gear and hearing the Ooohhhs and ahhhs, laughter, fight songs, and screams across the bar, upstairs and downstairs. If you're game, I'd say grab a mystery beer and let your tastebuds be surprised. I was not disappointed at all. :) My only issue was after a while the bartender was MIA and never came back to check on us or to see if we needed anything else. It was pretty busy but with a couple people behind the bar, just a quick, "Hey, are you guys good?" Acknowledgment would have been nice. Overall, it was a good time, and the nachos were amazing even though they still came out wrong with the clarification. LOL

On multiple occasions waitresses have been rude. A shame as the bar is cool and close, but they continue to give a lot of attitude.

Ask the Community - Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse

Is this a fun place for a 12 and 14 year old? Or is it more adult appropriate?

Cavanaugh's does allow minors to enter until 8pm. After 8pm it is 21+. It is more adult appropriate.

    I'd this location handicapped accessible?

I heard this might be a Seattle Seahawks bar and that they fly a 12 flag out front. Can anyone confirm?

We do have many Seahawks fans come in and our chef is a huge fan as well. We would have no problem flying a #12 flag. We don’t fly a flag out front but have banners inside of our alumni teams. Let’s beat those Cowboys!

Woo child!! To be young again!…read more it's my sister's annual birthday week and we finished the night off after walking philly for what felt like 2 hours (25 minutes) and stumbled upon this club! the bouncers at the door were hella friendly (thanks billy) and the security inside kept a tight room. we joined in upon like 4 birthday parties and a full bottle service. needless to say the shots being poured were plentiful. Thank you to the really nice bartender in the orange hat (also a millennial) who grasps the concept of 'it's so loud in here' like it's not a nightclub. anyway the prices of the drinks were great. NO cover charges (that night) the floors were covered in confetti, and it was awesome watching jake paul get his jaw broken on someone's phone! #netflix ps. if you have a video of me acting up in a sombrero--no you don't.

I'm not sure how accountable this review will be, as I did take out not stayed. They were having happy hour but it didn't count for me as I was take out I guess. I got the mozzarella sticks were bomb with the sauce and I got the creamy Mac and cheese. I was excited for the Mac and cheese because I had one last night that was amazing from somewhere else. I got back to my hotel my second but I found a hair. Like a fatty I threw it to the side and kept eating it anyways. Unlike a true fatty, I didn't finish it. So unholy for a Mac and cheese lover like myself... but it was too acidic for me. I couldn't keep eating it. So I'm basing this review solely on the food. The service seemed ok? They seemed nice, but can't judge that as I did take out.

Some new items on the menu so I figured I would go through a new review:…read more Carrot Soup: This replaces their old root vegetable soup, and they thankfully kept it vegetarian. It was much better than their root vegetable soup, and I was quite fond of that soup. It's honestly nothing like anything else on the menu. It has an indian? maybe? taste to it. It's so good. there is these juicy white raisins inside, some sliced almonds (not treenut friendly), and some sort of white yogurt sauce with micro greens. really a fantastic flavor pallet and the actual soup texture is smooth minus the toppings. Cashew Hummus: okay so here's my thing. I find that this restaurant in particular does such a disservice with their menu item descriptions. Based off of the description of this dish, I would think it's probably decent at best, and might not even order it. luckily I had a sixth sense to know this would be amazing. it's truly so good. it's a hummus layer topped with a bunch of seasoned roasted vegetables and chickpeas. The flavors are great and the textures are also great. I wouldn't have known it was cashew hummus if you didn't tell me. it's honestly not that large, so if you really like vegtables and hummus i'd get your own or split with only one person. if everyone is demure, it could go four ways. also! I don't think it comes with bread. it didn't come with bread this recent visit, but I am not sure if that was a mistake or that's how it is. But, to be safe, i'd save your bread you get at the begining to use for this. this is a must get every time I go. Dandelion salad: I only order this for my welsh rarebit. I like to eat my welsh rarebit with some of the salad since the acid cuts the fatty cheese. but, I will say, it's a very good salad. my favorite part is the thinly sliced celery pieces. it has a bunch of varying greens, celery, avocado, cucumber. all dressed in a lemony dressing. it's very simplistic and that's why I think it's so good. it's quite large, and would be a great "for the table" order so that everyone has some fresh bites with their rich entrees. Welsh Rarebit: my favorite. if you don't know what welsh rarebit is, it's basically fancy cheese toast. think proper fondue cheese with Worcestershire, mustard, maybe guinness, melted on a thick piece of toast. so an open faced fancy grilled cheese. it's two big slices of toast. could easily be shared for the table but I prefer my own order. if you get this I recommend also getting the dandelion salad and eating them together. Chocolate Set: I haven't tried their other desserts, but I just know they are a waste of time compared to this. the chocolate set is a dense chocolate mousse with earl gray ice cream, chocolate nibs, and a few orange slices. it's so simple but so so good. texturally, amazing. the smoothness of the mousse with the crunchy nibs is the perfect contrast. the orange is bright, the ice cream is just great on its own and does so well paired with everything else. it can be shared 4 ways if you have demure people. my family of four just orders two and we get half each. that works for us, we would never be able to share one. all in all great service as always, great food, and obviously a gorgeous interior.
