The shop is inviting, relaxed, and clean. The artists and shop staff I spoke with were all very friendly. I got a tattoo from Leina a couple months ago. She did a fantastic job, and had me out of the chair in time to beat Boston traffic on the trip home. This was my first time at Good Faith, and I plan to return at some point soon. **I use a cane when I walk. There may be an elevator to the second floor, but I didn't see one. That being said, I didn't have a problem getting up and down the flight of stairs--if you have mobility issues, be sure to mention it when making an appointment. read more

So I have been to Nick twice in the last three months. Really friendly staff in general from what I can see when I went there and interacted with both individuals working. I've been debating getting a tattoo for about 100 years, so when life finally kicked me into doing it, I wanted to be sure I wound up at the best place possible -- and I did, without a doubt! I visited and called a lot of places in MA and NH before making my decision, and every interaction I had with Good Faith was flawless -- the guys were chill, informed and cooperative. When I walked in with my artwork and ideas, everyone was honest and open with what would and wouldn't work, they really listened and tried to get us to the best compromise. I wound up working with Caz (who is a visiting artist who frequently is at Good Faith throughout the year, so if you're lucky enough to be there when he is, DEFINITELY schedule some time with him), and he was super patient with my questions, concerns and neuroses. I had a hard time explaining what it was I wanted in the design, but he seemed to know exactly what I wanted, and assured me we'd get it done. When I arrived on tattoo day the design was even better than I had imagined, and although I was nervous as hell, all of the artists and clients who were in the office just made the whole environment seem very relaxed. A few hours later, I walked out of Good Faith beyond ecstatic with every aspect of the experience -- I cannot say enough about the group of guys here, not only were they funny, informed and supportive, but each is clearly an AMAZING artist and professional. Friendly and professional staff. I was immediately made to feel comfortable despite the fact that I had no experience with tattoos or tattoo shops. I met with Johannes who had been highly recommended by a friend. I spoke with Johannes twice prior to beginning work on my tattoo. He was receptive to my ideas and to the artwork that I showed him, and he educated me with regard to what would and what wouldn't work with respect to my proposed tattoo. The studio was clean and comfortable. Every step of the process was explained to me in advance and there were no surprises. After the work was complete I was provided aftercare instructions verbally and in writing. The final cost of the tattoo was within the quoted range. I was very happy with the finished product which ultimately took two sessions as I decided that I wanted additional work done that I had decided not to do at the first appointment. Again, the cost of the additional work was within the estimated price range and I was even happier with the tattoo after the second appointment. What a painless process and such beautiful work! Victor was a sweetheart and I couldn't be happier with the end result. I was researching every tattoo parlor in Boston and decided to stop in to Good Faith because of the positive reviews and artwork on their website. As a tattoo virgin, I went in simply to get a feel for the process. I sat for about an hour waiting patiently for someone to come out to the front desk, I must've gone in on a busy day, but eventually I was pleasantly greeted. I came in with print outs of ideas I had for my tattoo (will attach an end result picture shortly) and they explained the method they would need to use to ensure it came out exactly how I wanted. I wasn't sure who I wanted to perform it, but I was reassured Victor would be the perfect artist for my idea. I paid a $50 deposit on the spot for an appointment 5 days later. (Moving along quickly!). On the day of my appointment I met Victor, he had a warm personality and he showed me what he drew up - I loved it. (they made sure to mention if I didn't love it, they would have no problem making the edits to my liking). Not wasting any time, he got me ready and had me on a table exactly at the time of my appointment. The pain was to be expected, tolerable but noticeable and he made a point to talk to me the entire 3 hours it took to complete it, seeing how it made me feel more comfortable. I could not be happier with the experience as a whole. Victor did an excellent job, the shop was clean and well kept, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. After it was done, Victor walked me through the after care process and even said to come in a month down the road and he would perform any touch-ups if needed. If you are looking for your first tattoo, or 100th it doesn't matter, Good Faith is where it's at. read more

I came back and did some last minute blabbing and freaking out- he drew everything out and My Idea came to life! a cherry blossom branch and my Chinese nickname (in hanzi/characters). He was patient and NOT offended when I studied the characters (outlining it with my fingers and unique hanzi writing skills) to make sure the characters were PERFECT (I'm not one of those people that think characters look cool- I lived there and know some of the language! And it better be correct if it's going to be inked on me forevermore!)- it was perfect. What I loved most about this experience is just how friendly and professional he was. He was amazing to talk to. He would ask if I was ok every now and then. When I yelped other places, a lot of people commented on how unpersonable their artist was. Not Ben! I was very satisfied with the result. Worth the price. If I get a second tattoo, it will be with Ben Sacks! Oh, and the lobby area is SO clean. I recently got my first real Tattoo, my other is super small on my ankle, but this one was on my ribs and pretty big for my body. Everyone there was so nice. I had emailed them a few photos of feathers that I was really interested in. When I got there the artist, I believe it was Victor?, made two sketches to try with the contouring of my body. Amazing. Clean, chill, extremely nice, funny, helpful, and patient. I had the chance to speak with Chris to set up my appointment and design. I had not printed out my design prior to the appointment (which I should have done) but he was extremely accommodating. My artist was Victor Kensinger. He was friendly and welcoming. He drew up the design very well, checking with me to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Since the design consisted of thin, precise lines, Victor took the time to be careful and thorough. His work was amazing. He notified me that he was using a 5-point needle to make sure the design would heal up to what I wanted. Within an hour it was done! He also offered to touch up my small tattoo (1/2inch by 1/2inch) for free. The total came out to be $150 excluding tip. I very much recommend this place rather than any other place around (some other places had given me a $300 estimate for the same design!) I'll upload pictures as they heal! read more

Just to start, I've never written a yelp review in my entire life. I also want to say that this has nothing about the quality of the tattoo. The piece came out well, and I expect it to heal perfectly. This review is more on attitude and lack of respect. I have plenty of tattoos, this is absolutely not my first one, nor is it the biggest, smallest or most detailed. Pretty standard stuff. And this came out fine, no issues there. But I'm very unhappy with the way I was spoken to. I won't name the artist, just because I'm sure he has his reasoning same as me, but I felt very disrespected. From the design I chose, the spot, and the size, the artist seemed to disagree in the most aggressively passive aggressive ways possible. I asked if it could be smaller, and instead of politely saying something like "I would suggest keeping it this size" he said "maybe you could try a cooler design instead and make it whatever size you want". You can disagree with my choices all you want, but at the end of the day, I'm paying for what I want. You can either take the money and do it, or turn me down. But do NOT try to shame me or speak to me in a disrespectful manner. Do your job and get paid or keep and opinion out of it, or don't do it at all. Artist was disrespectful and condescending. I've gotten around 7 pieces from this shop from all different artists, but this visit ruined the shop for me. Won't be returning. read more

This was not my first tattoo by far but he was condescending and refused all my requests and insisted on using a predrawn stencil from a past tattoo (I'm assuming since it came out of a binder). I came in here with a set design that was drawn for me by a friend, and the guys here wanted me to change it. They insisted on changing a few things about it but only because they said it wouldn't age properly, which I could definitely respect. Had a great experience for my first tattoo! I walked in with a friend late afternoon on a Saturday to see if they could take us for two small pieces. The woman at the desk and two artists working at the time discussed if it would be feasible to fit us in, and I really appreciated that they took the time to think about what would be best for us and the customers they were already serving. They looked at our artwork and considered the pieces they already had to complete and decided it would be best not to guarantee that they could fit us in the same day, which was honest and thoughtful. We made appointments to come back the next day. The vibe from all of the staff, the music, everything about the shop was very relaxed and welcoming. I had gone to a couple of other shops in the area and sometimes felt dismissed or unimportant because the piece I was looking to get was small and I'm clearly inexperienced as a tattoo recipient. Victor, my artist, was laid back but also supportive and patient as I asked him to resize and reposition the stencil a few times. I had been picturing a smaller version of the artwork and he worked with me within the limits of what would look best in his professional opinion, and I really appreciated his honesty and explanation of why going too small would result in a poorer quality tattoo. In the end it was most important to me to retain the clarity of the lines and he was exactly right in his suggestion, but he never made me feel stupid or wrong for asking a bunch of questions. We had a nice conversation during the process and he kept checking in to see how I was doing, and clearly explained all of the aftercare instructions. I was definitely nervous and excited to get this done and was a little wary when I wasn't able to get it done at a place I had researched more thoroughly ahead of time, but I felt very at ease throughout all of my experiences here. I've only ever used this account to lurk but I had such a great experience here that I think it's time to write my first review. I walked in the shop as soon as it opened on a Sunday and the receptionist was very kind and welcoming. I didn't have an appointment, but was told that I could get tattooed in around 20 minutes (which was fantastic- I had expected to put my name down and come back later that day if there were openings). The pricing was extremely reasonable too. Victor was my tattoo artist and I couldn't have asked for a better first tattoo experience. He was super patient and amazing to talk to, and explained every step of the process to me. He also gave me placement suggestions that I ended up liking a lot better than my original placement in mind and I couldn't be happier!! I am a bad, bad Yelper. It's been way too long since I reviewed anything-- but I think this is a perfect hiatus breaker: I have fallen in love four times in my life. The first time was with a stuffed cat I named "Kitty" who I carried everywhere with me. The second was with the boy with the neon-hightops from down the street who babysat me every Tuesday and Friday night. The third time, crushingly, was during a brief trip to Rome, and it was with a bowl of gnocchi. The fourth, well, that was with Good Faith Tattoos and the tattoo they scrawled on me last month. I'd wanted this tattoo (my favorite Bible verse) for a very long time, but just couldn't find the right place to do it for me. Until I met Victor at Good Faith. He was chill, kind, and didn't mind that I ate half a bowl of their Starburst before my session, out of nerves. I probably told him "I hate needles" about 20 times, and despite my skittishness, he was completely patient and calming. The banner tattoo he designed was perfect. And I've never been so in love with a part of my body before in my life. Victor is the man! Incredibly talented-- I was scoping out his work while on the table and it's amazing. He made the experience totally awesome and even relatively pain-free. The studio/parlor/whatever you call a place where you get tattooed, is incredibly clean. The guys there are really nice and don't look at you with that "cooler than thou because I got a koi fish tattoo at age 13 in Panama" air about them. Very welcoming-- and some of them even kept checking in on me/Victor's work while I was getting 'tooed. I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. read more

I've gotten two very small tattoo's prior to the one Chris did for me, and both of them gave me a negative view of the experience as a whole. My consultation went was a welcoming experience that I left me feeling comfortable in his skill as an artist and character as a professional. My biggest surprise came during my second appointment. I ended up getting dizzy about 30 minutes in, Chris shot up, got me water and comforted me in my obviously embarassed state. He went downstairs to get me a soda and something to eat, neither of which he asked for return payment for (but i paid him back for it anyway). While embarassing for me to have to say on here, it was a show of professionalism I couldn't pass up sharing. It meant a great deal to me, and I'll never go anywhere else for my future work. read more

Allow me, dear Internet, to add my voice to the chorus of glowing reviews for this place. I set up an appointment here to get my first tattoo, and a few weeks ago, had the work done by Ben Sacks. Ben and Chris were both extremely helpful and very encouraging throughout the whole consultation process; it was just a simple text tattoo, but it was hand-designed, and they really helped me understand how what was written on the paper would translate to my skin (specifically, my inner biceps). How'd it translate? Fantastically. I was nervous about the process for a number of reasons: it was my first tattoo (would it hurt?), it was on the inner biceps (would it really hurt?), a big oscillating needle was involved (would I pass out or something?). At no point, though, did they make me feel nervous -- or like I had anything to fear -- at all. You want this tattoo, they said? Awesome. Let's make it as good as it can be. And it was. The piece, simple as it was, came out perfectly; Ben made quick and totally accurate work of the design. The whole process, from concept to healing, has gone way more smoothly than I would've ever thought, and I feel like I have Good Faith to thank for that. They were super-positive and I never felt anything but totally reassured. If I ever decide to get another one, these are my guys. They should be yours, too. read more

I have been seriously considering a tattoo for 20 years and after this past year turned out to be so exquisitely craptastic, I decided to use some of my birthday money to treat myself. I Yelped a bit beforehand and decided on Good Faith. I had walked in last year and had a brief consultation with an artist who, despite my drop in visit, took the time to answer my questions. I dropped in again yesterday and was told that Chris could see me later that afternoon. I returned and before I knew it, I was seated. The place was clean and brightly lit. Chris took the time to make sure the placement was to my liking and adjusted the stencil placement. I was nervous and asked questions at a rapid fire pace. Chris was very professional and patient and tolerated my small talk with aplomb. Given that I don't even allow hairdressers to cut my hair, for me, there's something oddly intimate, for lack of a better term, in allowing a complete stranger to mark your body irrevocably, and this is even more true when the process involves pain, even if only minimal. Had the artist's demeanor been even somewhat disdainful or condescending, the experience would have been negative, and this would have tainted my view of what is now a permanent-and visible-part of my body. Fortunately, Chris was pleasant and thorough. I felt at ease, and the tattooing process itself was virtually painless, though I don't doubt another's experience might vary depending on their tolerance and the location of the work being done. All in all I am very pleased with the experience and the work. It is exactly what I wanted. The only minor issue is that the aftercare instructions were not printed out for me to take home. Although I was listening to the instructions, I was so happy that I had finally done it that half the verbal instructions might as well have been in gibberish. Fortunately, Chris gave me his card and told me to call if I had any questions. I don't know that I will ever get another tattoo, but I do know that if I decide to, I will return to Good Faith. read more

After wanting a tattoo for 5 years, I put it off as long as I could. I read yelp reviews. I looked at every artists' galleries. I read every article on the entire internet about tattoos. Then I took the plunge, and made an appointment with Victor at Good Faith. Overall, it was a really good experience. I went in for a consultation, and Victor took some of the reference pictures I had brought with me, but didn't take any notes. I booked the appointment for a few weeks later, and was so nervous that he would have forgotten the details! Victor remembered, and the design (a lotus) was almost exactly what I wanted. I suggested a few tweaks, he redrew it, and we were good to go. He was patient with my inability to decide exactly where the tattoo needed to go, and he was cool with my sweetheart being there as my official hand squeezer. I had to keep asking Victor to take short breaks, so I could stretch, and in general he was just super laid back. The tattoo came out beautifully, and it's still in the healing process a week and a half later. He didn't give me any written aftercare instructions, which really threw me off (especially since I'd signed a waiver said I'd received them). At the time, I thought I understood all of the instructions he was telling me, but I had a zillion questions when I got home. Back to the internet I went, but there are a ton of contradictory instructions out there. I'd recommend them if you want a completely laid back experience, but I think I'm a little too Type A for their style. read more

A few years ago I got my first tattoo at Redemption Tattoo by Jason Loui. The experience was really great. I talked to him about what I wanted, sent him some pictures and he sketched out what would soon be my tattoo. I was a little nervous, but he was super friendly and did an amazing job with the placement, design, color, etc. I was pretty bummed to find out that Jason was no longer with Redemption when I was getting ready to start a half-sleeve. Turns out he's with a new shop, Good Faith. Again, I gave him an idea of what I wanted and he came back to me with a really amazing design. I constantly get complimented on both of my tattoos. Don't worry, I waited till the endorphins wore off before I wrote this review. I got recommended to Chris at Good Faith after comparing tattoos with an awesome sales at the Fluevog store on Newbury St. I've been saving my pennies for an elaborate back piece, but as it turns out, grad school doesn't leave you a lot of spare money for nice things. So I came up with a simpler, smaller tattoo plan and got in touch with Chris. We talked about what I wanted, I sent him an email with the images, then we made an appointment. Nice and easy! He was ready with stencils when I arrived, and he double-checked any alterations he had made, had me confirm size and location, etc, always willing to go back to the table and redo the stencil to make sure I would be perfectly satisfied. Then I got settled on the table and he set to work injecting me with ink! He was an amazing tattooist, making me very comfortable, checking in on how I was doing, letting me know how things were going, and so on. What I really can't quantify was the general feeling of competence I got from him; I was so relaxed and comfortable. Throughout the experience, everything felt so professional and easy. If you take a look at his portfolio (or really the portfolios of any of the artists there), you'll see he's amazingly talented. Despite having seen his work both in photos and on satisfied customers, I am still blown away with how gorgeous the final product came out. It is so beautiful! I absolutely cannot wait to go back to Chris for more work. The space is clean, well-lit, and they play music that doesn't suck. I am absolutely beyond thrilled and my only regret is that my tattoo is on my side, covered by my shirt, so most of the world is missing out on getting to feast their eyes on Chris' beautiful work! 12 years ago I got a tattoo that I have badly regretted for about the last 8 years. Convinced that removal was not the best option, I finally got around to looking into getting a cover up tattoo done. After consultation at a few different places, I stumbled upon Good Faith Tattoos and met briefly with Ian. He was extremely professional and friendly, and it was immediately clear that he really knew his stuff. I gave him a few photographs of what I was looking for. Not having any idea whether or not he could turn them into a tattoo, let alone one which would cover the old tattoo, he was extremely helpful and patient in explaining the various options, and what the finished product would look like. It was a lot of work, and took three sessions to complete, but in the end I was absolutely blown away by how good it looks. Not only is there absolutely zero sign of the old tattoo, but the new one is stunning, I could not be happier with it. In addition, Ian was great, and was particularly cool and patient when I nearly passed out at the start of session #2. (Word to the wise - tattooing near the underarms is fucking painful.) I would go back to see Ian in a heartbeat. If you're looking for a shamrock on your ankle, or somebody's initials, then probably most any tattoo artist will do. I've been getting tattooed by Corey Kruger for about two years nows, and I'm pretty confident that I will never go anywhere else. He is an amazing artist! He spends a lot of time researching and drawing your tattoo, placing the stencil, and then finally doing the work, but it's so worth it. Since I have started using Corey as my tattoo artist I have had countless people tell me (and my husband, who has a Corey sleeve) that we have the best collection of tattoos they've ever seen! He has done a half-sleeve for me of maple leaves, plus a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac cover on my calf, and we're now working on swords on my forearms. Corey's wife Natalie manages the shop and is super friendly and accommodating with scheduling or moving appointments. They recently enlarged the shop and Corey has a large, more private room. I'd recommend scheduling time for a consultation with Corey if you are interested in getting a tattoo by him since he can be very busy, and he probably won't stop tattooing another customer to come out and talk to you (he really focuses while he's working). read more

I just got home from finishing up my tattoo, and I couldn't be more pleased. I wanted to get an old eyesore covered up, so I went in there and talked to Brad about design ideas. I came back a week later and he had drawn up something really beautiful, and exactly what I wanted. He tattooed on the outlines, and I came back today to get it shaded in I really love it! Brad did an awesome job and I'm really impressed that he made it look pretty much exactly how I wanted. Everyone here was really nice, too, and there was nothing intimidating about Good Faith (unlike some other places I've been to). Thanks, Brad! read more

OK this review is long overdue, as I am a bad Yelper, but I thought I'd throw Chris some love on here since most of the recent reviews are for Vic or Jason. Prior to my first tattoo, I had spent a lot of time looking around different tattoo shops around Boston, and decided on Good Faith Tattoos based mostly on Yelp reviews, and then specifically Chris based on his portfolio. I got my first tattoo from Chris almost exactly a year ago, and my second 2 weeks ago. I was nervous as heck for my first one, and wanted something quite large (it covers the inside of my forearm), and left the "artistic interpretation" completely up to Chris. I came in only with an idea, and he completely nailed it. There were some scheduling issues, and he had to reschedule me twice, and I guess he felt bad about it because it feels like he knocked down the price for me a bit, which was a real stand up thing to do. Also, I was his last appointment that day, and it carried well over the closing time, but he was not rushed at all, and stuck it out to do an exceptional job, and the tattoo looks just as great as it did a year ago. For my second one, I stopped by on a Tuesday, and was surprised he immediately remembered me (even some little things we had talked about on my first visit a year ago), and made an appointment for that Friday. This time, I was his first customer that day, and my piece carried over a little into his next appointment, but again, not rushed, and I am overly happy with the result. For this tattoo, I had an actual picture for him to do (for my entire back of the calf), but we discussed in depth about the details of it. Originally I had imagined it to be filled in solid, but he suggested to do just a thick outline, and I put my "good faith" (har har) in him, and love the result. The shop itself is nice and quaint, the staff all seem real nice and completely laid back, and Chris himself real chill and easy to talk to. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to get some work done (the tattoos look real good, and even people who don't personally like tattoos agree that they are very well done), as I know I will keep going back to him for anything else I want. read more
