The workmanship in both mine and my wife's rings is poor. Inspections done as per their recommendations failed to spot problems. When a quality jeweller looked them over, pointed out several issues needing attention, and we took them back to People's to sort out the problems, we learned that the lifetime guarantees aren't worth the paper they are printed on. My loose diamonds don't get repaired unless they fall out. After battling with the company about the more serious flaws in my wife's rings, they were sent out to People's own repair centre. When they came back they looked like an eighth-grader learning to solder had done the repairs. In the ensuing conversations, People's opted to replace the rings. The rings we received have lesser quality stones than the ones we gave up, and to quote our current Goldsmith, "Looking at it just now I was marvelling at the lack of finesse used in the setting..........Globs of gold stuck on top of the claws to build them up after all the grief you went through with them." Shopping People's and expecting high end jewelry is like going to 7-Eleven and expecting Filet Minón in their plastic wrapped beef sandwich. Nuff said.

I made friends with Shanel, one of the employees at the counter, who still to this day is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Fast forward to January 2nd, this year, I came to the counter to look at products, post Christmas, and was confronted by the store manager, Nadja, whom asked to speak to me. She humiliated me and discriminated against my disability of being autistic and kicked me from the store and told me I was no longer welcome unless I was making a purchase and directly leaving. I came back the next day to return items I had bought from the store cause I wanted no affiliation with The Bay and the entire time I was surveilled by five employees. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal. And for what, always being kind and respectful to all the staff, never shoplifting, but the second I have a disability, I'm the most horrible person that needs to be removed from the store? Absolutely unbelievable.

I paid the invoice in full that same day, including shipping from Canada to the USA. I did not receive the item, (nor any communication from Luis), and finally inquired one month later as to the status of delivery. Luis said the item was shipped with Canada Post but that tracking stopped at the Canada/USA border. Luis promised to trace the item and resolve the problem. Over 4 months later, I have received neither the portrait miniature nor a refund. Luis sent me a nasty message after I posted a 1 star review on LiveAuctioneers. "Luis Porretta Fine Arts Aug 08, 2022 5:03 PM EDT Hello, You give us a "one star" feedback without us even getting results from a PO search and then expect us to cooperate? Not going to happen. We will refund you only after the PO returns its results. - Luis Porretta" Luis Porretta has never returned any of my inquiries since then. I asked LiveAuctioneers 1 month ago to intervene to resolve the dispute. They contacted Luis who falsely claimed to LiveAuctioneers that: (1) the item was delivered to me (of course no proof of delivery), and (2) he had refunded me as a goodwill gesture (no proof of refund). I told LiveAuctioneers these were both lies. LiveAuctioneers contacted Luis a second time. He subsequently has refused to answer LiveAuctioneers emails requesting proof of delivery and/or refund. BOTTOM LINE: Luis Porretta accepted my immediate payment in full of the invoice (including shipping) on the day of the auction in which I was the winning bidder. He for some reason employed Canada Post, which stops tracking at the international Canada/USA border (instead of using any of several available international shippers who provide end-to-end tracking). He refused to answer my inquiries, lied to LiveAuctioneers, and then refused to answer any of their follow-up inquiries. Simply stated, he stole my money. I hope you will carefully consider my situation before you ever consider doing business with Luis Porretta Fine Arts. If you want to lose your money, better to donate to a charity rather than give to a shill. They do good work, and some not so good work. Some of the staff are not informed or well versed on…read moresome of the different stone options available, and it can leave the customer feeling badly about themselves due to the staff sometimes making you feel badly about your stone choice. I have had several things done with them, and have had my share of problems (ring was returned back to me with a crooked head after giving it to them for repairs, stone falling out of setting shortly after receiving pendant back...etc.) but they have also done some work that I'm very happy with. All I know is I deal with them frequently and often feel embarrassed/ashamed when I'm walking up to their counter because the younger goldsmith will often give the older goldsmith a snicker and a look that conveys "oh, great, HER again". Keep in mind I am not a problem customer, simply someone who gets this particular goldsmith to do a lot of work for me. But I guess repeat, paying customers is not what they're in the market for.
