I booked my birthday party here for 30+ people and Eddy and his team were so accommodating! They were great with emailing me and contacting me about the details of the night and also let me customize my message on the marquee board. They gave me the entire back end of the bar + a booth, let us decorate the area, and gave us all the materials we needed for our cake. Our server was amazing. She was so nice and tended to all 30+ of us. She was constantly around and was always refilling the waters and cleaning the tables. The tacos, nachos, and the cocktail drinks are great. The bad: ordered four cocktails, one of which I do not recommend - peardise lost. Tasted more like cough medicine gone bad The meh: the rest of the drinks were pretty average. We ordered Sunken Island (tasted like piña colada, Nijikai (good infusion of Japanese drinks together), and proper pimms cup (easy to drink, exactly as the menu describes it). Also ordered the LC nachos, large amount that was easy to share amongst our group of 6. What to know: they have food from la carnita (whom are attached upstairs). If you have a big group, best to book ahead because table is limited. Overall not a bad experience. Great bar to go to if you are around the area :) read more

Good Fortune is really cool find uptown! They are located under La Carnita at Yonge and Eglinton, but it looks and feels like a bar downtown. I ordered the 3.14. Delicious. Wish I could've had more, but that would've been irresponsible. It was super sweet and fun. The meringue topping with a tiny bit of cinnamon was excellent. It was suuuuper duper sticky and messy to drink because the meringue spilled over. Still, I enjoyed it till the end. The old fashion was really tasty. I liked it a lot but my friend felt that it was too stiff for his tastes. It was a nice place to sit down and hang out for a bit without having to go all the way downtown. They have huge, comfy looking booths that were all taken when we got there. Our waitress told us that usually we'd be able to order food from upstairs to go with our drinks but we came a bit late so the kitchen had already closed. Guess we have to come back a bit earlier next time! read more

Looking for a bar with a downtown vibe at Yonge & Eg? This is one of three excellent places for cocktails in my midtown hood. True, this one skews younger and the tunes are loud, but it's a reliably hopping spot for fun vibes and exceptional drinks. I love the matrix of xmas lights overhead, and the oversized comfy booths that you don't need to reserve in advance. And it's got that speakeasy thing going on, considering that it's located in the basement of La Carnita and the signage (if any) is discreet. Recommended drink: PEAR PRESSURE. Note: two other excellent stops for drinks nearby are Bar Batavia, another sign-less speakeasy located above Little Sister; and Noorden, which is really a restaurant, but I love parking myself at their handsome bar for expertly crafted gin cocktails. This was my second visit to Good Fortune and I have to admit, I kinda love the place. It's a very cool, very dark little bar underneath La Carnita and it feels like the kind of place you might encounter on Queen Street or Dundas West. We arrived on a Friday night and the place was pretty packed, although we were able to secure a table by the back. The drink special was a $10 margarita, which obviously I had to order. Though the portion size was a little minuscule, this was definitely one of the better margaritas I've had in a while. (It reminded me of the superlative drinks I get in Vegas every time I go back there, actually.) Though Good Fortune does offer the full La Carnita menu, I wanted to try one of their exclusive offerings, so I went with the Crispy Chicken Burger ("Crispy Chicken, Lettuce, All Dressed Sauce, Pickles"). It's astounding. Everything works: the perfect, soft bread, the delicious sauce, the divinely-cooked chicken... It's almost a perfect sandwich, although there was perhaps just a little too much sauce for my liking. The service was friendly and attentive, too. read more

Got a chance to try out this brand new bar, although you wouldn't know it was brand new because it had none of the usual "hiccups" that places have when they just open. Service was fast, friendly, efficient, accommodating. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their face and genuinely be happy to be there...a rarity among service staff in the city. The food menu is hella straightforward, and in exact OPPOSITE fashion, the bev menu is hella confusing. Everything sounds good, but you aren't really sure why, since at least half the ingredients are things you've probably never heard of. (my drink listed "lactose" but when it arrived it had no milkiness, so it was literally just a binding agent for some weirdo ice cubes) Drinks are boozy, and delicious, and fun, but I do wish they'd list the ounces on the menu. I like to know ahead of time if a drink is going to be very boozy or just a bit, and what I'm paying for. We ordered every thing on the food menu, which wasn't that hard to do. Crinkle french fries come w jalapeno cheese whiz and ketchup to dip, on the side. Chicken fingers come with a spicy, habenero dipping sauce. Hamburger has a kick to it - from house made hickory sticks. The miami ribs were the only downfall, although just slightly, I wasn't as enamored with them as the rest of the menu but they were still good. Although not sure what makes them Miami-esque, to me, they tasted and were presented Korean-style. The ambiance of this bar is really cool, great ambiance, especially if you like 50-cent. The place has a cute, cozy and kinda sexy decor. The vibe is so cool as well the music. The food is delicious! The staff is great and so attentive! When you arrive, you only see a door and doesn't expect much. But once you get in, you feel the vibe right on! My friends and I were there for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday and we all were so surprise and loved the place! Truly recommended! I'll be definitely coming back!!! read more

Love how this place is situated downstairs below La Carnita. We decided after our dinner to come down to have a few drinks. It took the bartender a good 15 mins to recognize as as their were other people arriving after us that were getting served. It's never a good thing to be aggressive with the bartender but it seemed like patiently waiting was not getting our drinks any faster either. He didn't seem too friendly but whatever., so my friend ordered a pineapple daiquiri which was horrendous. She didn't even drink it. It was very limey not pineapple at all. My drink on the other hand was okay.. some type of fizzy drink with a shot of vodka. I have to say I noticed the diversity in the crowd. It was very interesting to people watch. Might be back because it's conveniently downstairs but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

Went for the first time tonight. The burgers are great, I tried the burger and the chicken burger, and the beer selection is great. The other positive is that they serve La Carnita's menu too. My only knock is the servings are on the smaller side. I have a feeling it will now be one of my Yonge and Eglington staples for a drink and food. read more

Good Fortune is a cute, hidden-away little bar with fun decor. The drinks are around $7-9 for beers/ciders and $12-$14 for cocktails. They had a DJ playing rnb. I think it would be good for a small group or an intimate date earlier in the evening. Limited options for food but la carnita is right upstairs. read more

Solid little bar that serves good bar grub and specialty drinks. I had the pleasure of trying everything on their mini menu, all of which was delicious. The burger especially. Really good burger for the price & it came with cheese and all the fixings! Impressive! They have a menu of drinks, half of which are named after pro wrestlers lol. Was a good laugh. What I really liked here was that you can order an alcoholic slushy and/or a bowl of freshly made alcoholic punch. Unique and cool. & it works well with big groups. The place is small, not insanely small, but pretty small. We came with 15 on a Friday and we're lucky to get the table in the back plus a booth. It was pretty busy for Friday at midnight I would say. Around 40-50 ppl. And FYI; they play hip hop. Everything I heard was recent and a banger. I genuinely enjoyed my time here. Couple all of what I said above plus the fact that's there's a Sweet Jesus upstairs; & this place will definitely be getting more of my business. Keep it up dudes! This is the same as the restaurant above it. I think the music is different but the food is the same. It was actually nice with a group of people because the portions are small and you're able to eat tapas style. We are a lot of different tacos which weren't too bad. I ordered the drink palled pie. It tasted exactly like a liquid lemon meringue pie. It was incredible. As I write this I am craving this drink. The only real issue we had was when we ordered a pitcher of sangria the server told us we couldn't get that down stairs, so we went upstairs to the bar and ordered it. The bartender upstairs brought the pitcher down for us. Our server apologized to us because as it turned out they did make the pitcher of Sangria downstairs, we noticed the bartender making one for another table. It was a little disappointing but we got what we wanted anyways. read more

I've been to Good Fortune Bar several times. I want to give it a good review because it's a nice spot to grab a drink in my neighbourhood. The bar staff and servers have always been friendly. There's a good beer selection. The Yonge and Eglinton area needs more nice bars, and I hope Good Fortune Bar survives. I went there this past Saturday night. For some reason, the bouncer made my friend and I (both in our 40s) stand at the top of the stairs for 4 to 5 minutes. In the past, we've walked right down. He said it was busy and that a hostess needed to seat us. We were going to leave but decided to wait it out. A hostess came by and said she didn't need to seat us. We went downstairs to the bar and it was dead - hardly anyone there! There was absolutely no reason for the bouncer to keep us waiting and lie about it being busy. That was insulting. We stayed for a drink and then went down the street to Prohibition which was livelier and had a better vibe. I'll return to Good Fortune Bar because I've only had one negative experience there and, as mentioned, I hope it survives. read more

We came here to celebrate a birthday. We were able to order from the upstairs menu. The drinks were nice but pricey but hey it's situated in Yonge and Eligible. The pineapple daiquiri was delicious but $14. The food was good, my husband especially liked the cod taco. The steak was nice too. Street corn was okay I didn't totally love it maybe because of the sauce. Wings were nice too but saucy and messy to eat. The chips and guacamole were good to munch on before the meal. The bar's comfortable. Bartenders are nice. It's located in the basement of La Carnita, so there's no patio, which is something of a disappointment. Again, thanks to its basement situation, the lighting is somewhat reminiscent of club lighting. Bar's cozy, and there are tables and booths, although you might be hard pressed to come by a booth - it's pretty busy in here. Food and drinks are both overpriced - $8 for a 350ml can of Corona? No thanks. Additionally, their beer selection (draught and can/bottle) is extremely eclectic. Most draughts are Canadian crafts of some sort, though not your standard Toronto brews (no Amsterdam, Mill St, or Steam Whistle) - you'll find plenty of Muskoka, some Hawaain stuff, and more, instead, though. Cocktails are a mixed batch: I myself had a negroni (my go-to) and I must say that it was sub-par. I doubt the ratios were off (you can't really get 1:1:1 wrong), so I'm assuming that at least one of the ingredients wasn't exactly the most premium. I'd probably come back here again, although it wouldn't be somewhere I'd go on a regular basis. However, the environment is happy and everybody seems to be in a good mood! read more

Wanted to check this place out on a weekend night (with thoughts of celebrating my birthday there in a few weeks) after going to La Carnita upstairs for lunch last week. So I went last night around 11pm, most seats were occupied but a booth was available and we were able to pull chairs over from the bar for our big group (12 people). Our server Jeff was wonderful, took our orders and memorized all of them like a boss, no hiccups and checked on us frequently. Also made a great suggestion with the Jello Shots, they were a hit at the table! lol. Didn't bother with the cocktails as we were all looking to just get alcohol in our systems, but the menu looks really fancy and offers a lot of choices for craft beer. Wine is also offered. Most of us just had bar rail, but the drinks were still well done and normal price for uptown Toronto (i.e. $7 bar rail). We ordered food, portions were small for the price but no complains in taste; one member of our group had the burger and said it was really good. Loved the ambience of the place: small but not too small and cozy, dim lounge-ish lighting, music was perfect (DJ was spinning hip hop and r&b which is my thing, and we were all singing loudly by the end lol), music was loud enough; you could still have a conversation with someone. Just overall very chill place - we all had an amazing time. Jeff was super helpful when I asked a few questions about celebrating my birthday there and also had his boss come over to speak with me about how they can help me out. Very positive experience and for a place that's only been open for 2 weeks... They did a great job! See this place becoming a very popular spot. Will be back again. read more
