    Shrimp Nasi Goreng

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Had dinner here on a Friday night, nice little pub, lots of displays showing various sports! Good to catch the game and have some drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good, staff were pleasant and accommodating. The food portions were pretty good, my girlfriend had the Shrimp Nasi Goreng (shrimp with stir fried veggies and rice) and I had the Duke banquet burger (8oz burger with lettuce, tomato, bacon and cheese). The food taste was average (3.5/5), the burger was better than the Shrimp Nasi Goreng but I found the pricing to be higher than expected. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall the pub is clean and vibes were good, just found that the food is fairly pricey for what you get.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy local pub.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The exterior looks like a cute London restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was friendly and responsive. Steak and chicken wings were delicious, and the beer was light and cool. I made a pitcher to share, but the amount was too small.

Came here on Monday. A bunch of sketchy dudes were watching Raptors and then two of them challenged each other to a fight outside. They came back 5 minutes later looking sheepish. Also the bar smells like disinfectant. Only place to get a beer for less than $15 at Yonge and Eglinton.

Came in with my sister for a light lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We choose this pub over the first one we had looked into nearby as the volume was lower. At first we weren't sure whether they were actually open since the neon Open sign wasn't lit, but there was a sandwich board on the corner so we figured it probably was...and I'm glad we were right! We wanted someplace cozy enough that we could have some private conversation, even though we're not beer drinkers. It wasn't too busy since the midday rush was over and we were able to get one of the 2 small window tables. The coffee station is situated there but it turned out to provide awesome comic relief (more on that later.) We didn't have to wait for anyone to seat us. It didn't take long for our server to come over and get us started. She was quite friendly and wait for it...WE WERE SERVED WATER WITHOUT HAVING TO ASK! Why the drama? For the last 6 months, every time I have been out to eat anywhere, it does not happen anymore. Big points there alone. We chose a couple of sides rather than 2 entrees since we just wanted nibbles rather than a full lunch. We got the crispy dry ribs and a full order of personal nachos. We stuck with the water since we love our coffee afterwards and might consider dessert. The ribs were quite nice, a little more cooked than I would do at home but then I know restaurants would rather I poison myself at home than have them to blame. The nachos were awesome! The worst part about them was the nachos themselves, not that there was any problem but compared to the quality of the toppings, they were average compared to stellar. The toppings included fresh guacamole, thick sour cream, the standard salsa (as average as the tacos), beans (the exact variety escapes me, the small, dark red ones), pickled jalapenos (nice heat and sour levels), tomatoes, and of course the usual cheese. There was so much topping, we ran out of nachos first. Seriously satisfied. We skipped dessert, but the choices looked nice...sticky toffee pudding; cheesecake; and chocolate cake. We just wanted our after meal coffee and since we were sat beside the service station, it wasn't long before someone came to it and started chatting with one of the patrons at the nearby booth beside the other window table. It seemed like they might already know each other, and soon the conversation rolled around to the server talking about how much effort it is serving more than one floor out of the same service station. Don't get me wrong, it was the most good natured venting I think I've ever heard. So much so that I found myself jumping in on the conversation to sympathize as he had mentioned that he had closed the night before and opened this morning. I agreed with him that yes, it sure is a lot more work to carry coffee and tea upstairs and downstairs for $3 instead of pouring a draft for $9, and we were all having a laugh. It was the kind of thing that is exactly why people go to their neighbourhood pub, or a bar like Cheers. The best part was when our own server came with our coffees, and without skipping a beat he laughed at himself and said, boy did I just royally put my foot in my mouth! If I lived in the area, I would want to be a regular here. As it is, whenever I visit my sister from now on, Duke of Kent is at the top of my list.

A perfect spot for a post movie drink and snack. It's right across the street from the Eglinton and Yonge Cineplex. It has a very sweet patio, but we decided to sit inside. It was cozy with bench seating. All the staff were really kind. And I also found them funny and engaging. I had the mango Mocktail. Which was kind of weird but tasty. It was kind of like a fruity Cesar. And my friend had a glass of red wine that she found quite tasty. We shared some calamari. OK... I am a calamari snob, and these were cooked perfectly and seasoned beautifully. I also loved that. They included some battered and seasoned veggies as well. Specifically, red pepper and zucchini. I will definitely go back again. Particularly with such lovely servers. It is a nice pub in a central location.

discovered a few SOLID pubs in the yonge and eglinton area; usually avoid due to horrific construction and traffic... appears to be concluding i like they have HALF PINTS; good call!!!

Pretty average bar at Yonge-Eg. I went to high school in the area and haven't seen much changes to this establishment. They serve your standard pub fare (curry, fried food, bar food etc.). I also noticed a 'Movie Meal,' which are discounted combination meals that you can enjoy before or after watching a movie across the street. Their drink menu is not extensive; you wouldn't be able to find drinks from all corners of the world, but there's enough choice. Also, it's not the life of the party on most nights. I have to commend the staff on great service though. The Duke is a great community pub if you just want to enjoy a super quiet night out. Good for: drinks, pub grub

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. I mistakenly came upon Town Crier Pub due to some marketing miscommunication on my part. I saw a lovely lunch special sidewalk sign and thought it was for them, but it was actually for the restaurant next door! However, I was already committed, and I always loved pubbing. Opened in early 2011, it was named after the historical role of town criers who served as the primary news source in medieval times. With the general theme of Belgian and German styles, its owners believed that European beers and news were linked. Would I be crying in my beer at this pub for entering the incorrect eatery in this town!? PURCHASE(S) Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold Lager Beer 5.5% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.50CAD): Golden amber color, aromatic malty aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=Oks3ELRLtUfkwpMwMfZ7YQ Town Crier Burger + Add Cheese ($17.00CAD + $2.00CAD): A simple burger made with prime rib beef patty, lettuce, pickle, red onion, and tomato on a lightly-grilled bun with an added slice of cheddar cheese, it was a sizable burger and did the job, but there wasn't anything special about it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=XV6Yy6lwP5yngWkIFicroA [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 3.5 of 5.0 STARS] Substitute Onion Rings ($3.00CAD): A good side portion with many rings of generally uniform size, these were hot, lightly golden browned, semi-crunchy, and had a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) pulled out at times. Although they were somewhat oily, they were good, and didn't come with any dipping sauce. Innis & Gunn Mangoes On The Run Fruited IPA Beer 5.0% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.00CAD): Dark strawberry color, fruity mango tropical aroma, low body, fruity hoppy mango sweet flavor, smooth finish, and slight bitter fruity mango tropical aftertaste. This was my favorite of the two for obvious reasons! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=_MZhEukjAcdC0Qfo4P2Kaw SERVICE I was happily greeted by a young host outside on the sidewalk who then directed me to a nice outdoor patio table perfect for people watching and the weather. He handed me a massive menu, supplied a glass of water, and soon enough I placed my order. My beers arrived quickly while the food took about ten minutes. He checked in often while we chatted throughout the time. It was a cool hang out for lunch - danke! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there were spots along the main drag of John St. and all surrounding streets, some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A cozy snug layout throughout, inside had a loungey warm feeling with a focal bar with a few stools https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=LZIKI_6GFVgLIPXXkbrICA and many closed-in tables; whereas, the outside patio was less formal but equally compact. Inside was very ornate of Belgian and German styles, while outside was casual and simple. Minimal natural lighting entered inside through the few windows and door opening and of course plenty outside while dim electric ceiling and table lights filled in both areas. There were no TVs nor any background music because chatter was everywhere. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=bYpvTBTNnDqaLvrEqNtYtA ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Town Crier Pub had me laughing, talking, and people watching for a relaxing afternoon and would gladly return. The number of beers available both on tap and in bottles was insane and I loved it! The food menu was expansive. The food was fine but nothing special, and the prices were relatively comparable. But, it was the service and staff that literally reeled me in for a good time. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00CAD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... This was first on our list, located in the Scotiabank Tower on Adelaide. We got a nice corner table, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, not too loud but not library-like either. The music, mostly UK fare like their cuisine, played an acceptable volume that my friends and I didn't have to raise our voices. We were seated very promptly, and our server took care to attend to my friend's allergy. She even asked to change my friend's cutlery when another server brought the wrong salad. My appetizer was a hot-smoked salmon pâté, which was ok by itself, but eaten with the pickles gave it that taste I wouldn't forget. I chose for my main the Petit Roast Dinner; the cut was excellent, full of flavour and juicy to boot. The gravy for said cut just brought the roast to another level. The sides were delicious as well, especially the crispiness of the potatoes. A clean plate was the end result! Finally to finish the meal, I chose the chocolate banoffee cheesecake - I never pass on any cheesecake when it's offered. And it didn't disappoint! The banana brûlée was an interesting touch, while having toffee sauce drizzled on the cheesecake was a first (and not definitely last) for me! All in all, it was a nice introduction to The Rabbit Hole, and I can't wait to go down there again!
