Ever heard of a beer press? Ingredients to flavor your draft mixed in a French Press. Oh and the house made old fashioned bitters are tell tale cocktail elevaters that really shine. Bob also took time to read over sugar content/Cals on NA drinks in fridge with me, tiny writing and low lighting, he was very understanding and patient in helping to make a selection. The pizza? It's Jaime's from next door but no app or running there needed, the bar takes the order, delivers when ready and has the extra condiments behind the bar to parm red chili flakes or black pepper up your slices. The bottom is crisp and 72-hr cold fermented dough has great flavor as does the sauce which has slight tang and zestiness, and now my go to over Empire Pizza, my previous downtown fave. Got the Gorgonzola bacon salad with house croutons, heirloom tomatoes and for $7 small, it was plenty for both of us pre-pizza. It's large, nice and proper cold, so delicious and had the hubby singing it's praises, we can't wait to try another salad as the quality of ingredients and house made dressing was tops! I don't want to be such an overt hater of Good Oak--it has the style and comfort you'd desire from a small cocktail bar. But at the end of the day, they're just too simple to be memorable. Really, these are cocktails for people who don't know much about cocktails. Just about everything on the menu is safe. Too safe. A few classics, and a few originals with like three ingredients. My Sonoran Old Fashioned (Tequila, honey, lemon) was OK but it didn't add any sort of bitters or house-made syrups for pizzazz, nor did it employ an agave spirit with any depth. What a snooze. Same for the admittedly cute drink featuring prickly pear--just straightforward and unimaginative. Nothing really appealed to me, so I went with my personal top-shelf staple--a Hendrick's and tonic. But they didn't even have Hendricks! Guess they were too busy using the limited space for a bunch of whiskeys. Spoiler alert: They don't even have the biggest (or most curated) whiskey list within a couple hundred meters. They used to have a kitchen too, and I wanted to try that, but it looks like they simply gave up on that in favor of outsourcing food to the adjacent pizzeria. I don't mean any disrespect, but there's nothing Good Oak can do that isn't done better by someone else on Congress. The Good Oak Bar has a good vibe which I really appreciate! You are greeted when you enter and as others have mentioned, it has a "speakeasy" feel. We grabbed a booth and ordered an Old Fashioned and a Hazy IPA. They've got what you're looking for... Whether it's a nice glass of wine, good beer or an excellent cocktail. Bob was our server and was super helpful and nice! Appreciated him! The Old Fashioned was my favorite that I've had! Such a nice smooth drink! I have been trying to contact someone but the number does not work, they have not answered the email and I have not received a response. I feel obliged to put my complaint here. I recently visited your establishment on December 21st and had a terrifying experience that I feel is important to share with you. While sitting at the bar with my husband, I noticed a man staring at me in a way that felt unsettling and inappropriate, i didn't pay too much attention to it i just wanted to enjoy my night with my husband. I usually go to the restroom alone at your bar, but this time, because of his behavior, I asked my husband to accompany me. He went to the men's restroom while I went to the women's. As soon as I finished using the restroom, I heard someone putting in the door code. When I stepped out of the stall, I was face-to-face with the same man who had been staring at me earlier. He walked toward me with what I believed were bad intentions, which caused me to scream for my husband and run out of the restroom in fear. In a panic, I told the staff that there was a man in the women's restroom. While they did remove him from the women's restroom, they allowed him to stay in the bar and continue using the men's restroom after he claimed it was a mistake. I know this wasn't the truth, but the staff appeared to believe him. After my husband and I decided to leave the bar, this man followed us outside, insulting both of us. This entire experience was frightening and unsafe, and I'm deeply concerned about the safety of your patrons. Additionally, I've noticed that the men's and women's restrooms share the same access code, which seems to make situations like this easier to occur. I strongly believe separate codes or improved monitoring could help prevent similar incidents. I'm sharing this because I don't want anyone else to go through an experience like this. I'd appreciate knowing what steps you plan to take to improve safety, both in restroom access and staff handling of incidents involving harassment or threats. We came here last night (Sat) and waited about 5 minutes for seats at the bar. The booths were all empty. We were able to watch the UA football game on screens over the bar. I tried the Desert Highball and at first wasn't a fan of the aftertaste but by the end the drink grew on me and I liked it. Ben had the Tombstone Summer ale and thought it was good. He wouldn't be able to drink more than 2 of these at a time though because of how much flavor it has. read more

I was really hoping for a laid back, chill experience. Sadly what we got was less than enjoyable. The best thing about our experience was the Parmesan fries we ordered. They have flights of whiskey, tequila, or mead (from Superstition). They have a secret menu that you can access via the QR code on the table. For only serving drinks (basically no food since Diablo burger left), I was hoping for some good ones. The menu leaves you wanting and they do have a decent selection of beers on tap. The venue itself is very small and can only fit the bar top and a few booths lining the wall. I went on a Friday night at 9pm and there were only 2 employees serving folks. Initially I thought, we'll it's a small venue so I'm sure they don't need that many people working on a Friday, but the rate of service was so painfully slow we basically spent most of the night waiting for either of the staff to come to us. Great bar with a nice tucked away ambiance. They specialize in whiskey and quality crafted cocktails. The bartenders were pleasant and knowledgable. The drinks were a bit steep, but reasonably priced at $8-11. They have a decent selection of 6-8 local craft beers to choose from as well. My biggest critique would be the limited selection of whiskey and cocktails. Their menu features about 7 or 8 whiskey cocktails and there are some gin/vodka/sangria drinks on the back (7 or 8 there as well). Not a lot of variety to be honest. They also feature about a dozen or so whiskies to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks (with the option to purchase a flight of 3 for $12). That said, for a whiskey bar I'd imagine they'd have twice as many whiskies to choose from and would use a little more diversity/creativity in crafting the cocktail menu. That critique asside, I enjoyed my time and will be back. We went later so we didn't get to try the pub fare, but the menu definitely looked enticing. Good Oak Bar was such a nice bar to cool off in. Having come from Northern California where I'm quite happy in 65 degree weather, I was dying in the 95 degree heat and desperately needed a drink. My friend and I got into the place and very happily "hydrated" ourselves with some accompanying snacks. Drinks: HH 4-6PM every day!! 1/2 off draft beers and draft wines (although I didn't order any of those lol) -Paloma: good but the grapefruit taste wasn't very strong. -Frosé: more bitter/tart than expected and the tea was actually a rooibos. -French 75: also not as bubbly as I thought it would turn out. All of them got me in the nicely tipsy category so although I wasn't 100% a fan of the taste, still ended up happy. Food: HH- $1 off food. -Chips: Super thin and crispy chips- we ended up ordering 2 of them at $2 each. -Fried Pickles: sooooo good. Very nice outer coating to match with the juicy, hot, crunchy insides. Definitely one of my favorite fried pickles (most others lose the pickle's crunch -_- or maybe I just haven't had the right ones). Solid 4/5. read more

My wife ordered a 10 ounce Octoberfest for six dollars, and a pretty gross agave cocktail that the bartender talked her into for nine dollars. It had to be about nine ounces. We each ordered food because the reviews were solid, but my burger--and especially the out-of-place bread slices on either side of it--was dry and lacking flavor. My wife's potato tacos were okay. Again lacking flavor. We left here with a check for $50, and given the lack of liquid and the lackluster food, we didn't think it was worth it. This is a comfy, cozy hometown bar with dangerously delicious, well-balanced cocktails. There is a bar area and a booth area, and since we had the toddler in tow, we sat in a booth. The place had a few patrons when we came in, but wasn't crowded. We originally came for beer, but the cocktails looked so good, we all ended up getting cocktails and sharing instead. I had the margarita (complex, a little bit smoky; one of my favorite margaritas in Tucson so far). My friend had the old-fashioned, which I assumed I would hate, because I dislike strong alcohol taste in cocktails. On the contrary, while I could definitely taste the alcohol, the drink was so well-balanced and tasty that I would have drunk the entire glass if it weren't my friend's drink. Hubby had a mezcal flight, which he really enjoyed; I can't really handle straight-up liquor, so I only had a sip of one, but aside from the alcohol burn, it was delicious, smooth-ish (for a mezcal) and smoky. Good Oak also has a small bar menu, so we ordered a bunch of things off that, which we all enjoyed: Fried Pickles: 5 (crunchy, fried pickle spears were pretty addictive - polished off in no time; I now prefer spears to slices for fried pickles) Avocado and Olive Tapenade Toast with Chevre: 5 (really enjoyed the blend of flavors and textures) Good Oak Burger: 5, per hubby (silly hubby devoured it, conveniently forgetting to share - all I wanted was a liiittle taste of that whisky-soaked peach on top) Tasty Tacos: 4 (ok, I can't remember what they were actually called, but it was the omnivore taco option, and it had a lot of flavor with a bit of heat, partly due to the whole stuffed pepper included inside each taco) I've been recommending it and plan to take family/friends here when they come to visit. This was our 3rd time here. The service has been friendly so we returned. I ordered a sangria. They make these with a cup of shaved ice and out it in a clear glass. The ice formed a frozen film on the glass and when I went to pick up the glass to drink the sangria the glass slipped right out of my hand. My $10 sangria was half in the glass and half in the bar. The bartender admitted the ice forms a coat on the glass (after it was all over the bar) and becomes slippery. He could have told me this when he gave me the drink. I am giving this place 5 stars purely because of the avocado toast, the retro photo booth and the unbelievably cool atmosphere. This is the most delicious avocado toast I have had in my entire life, the combination of the olives, olive oil and whatever deliciousness they hid in there, will forever make my mouth water. Their beers and cocktails were also quite excellent, the bar staff knew their stuff. I am pleased to also report that the drinks are great, with an emphasis on more unique local flavors (prickly pear, tequila in the old fashioned, black salt). We didn't have one of their flights (they offer a wide range of whiskey and tequila) but saw another couple getting one and were impressed by the knowledgable staff. This bar is a cozy and classy respite from some of the other bars on Congress. It's a fairly small bar, with a handful of booths to your right as you walk in and the bar to your left. But because it's small, it creates an intimate feeling. My partner and I found seats at the bar. While they have a good selection of interesting cocktails, my partner and I both decided to go with a beer since they also had a good selection of local beers and I had a pint of one of my favorites--the Serrano seduction by Dillinger. My partner had an IPA. There was one tv and it looked like you could get cans of pretty cheap beers--they're in coolers--if you're on a budget, since their drinks are kinda pricey. They have a photo booth, which my partner and I did--$4 for a strip of four photos. Adds a fun element to this place. We very much enjoyed the wine flight, as well as the Meade flight! Not many places in the area have Meade, and it was fun to try a couple different varieties! Keller the bartender was pleasant, and knowledgeable about the products on hand, and we liked that they serve Flying Leap wine!
