Around the corner from the busiest segments of 4th ave lies a neighborhood bar with weekly food trucks, occasional live entertainment, and a relatively quiet hangout for downtown Millennials. What I love: Eclectic draft beer selection that isn't too heavy on IPAs. A TON of wines, including *Superstition Mead* by the glass. An extensive menu of spirits. There might not be a better place in town to discover something new! What I like: Retail in the back--you can buy bottles to take home. Draft wine. What needs work: They have draft cocktails, and while they're boozy I don't think they're very good. Most of them are too sugary. This place rocks! We were in town visiting Saguaro and were thirsty afterwards and spotted that they had some great beer on tap, so we had to stop in. The beer selection was first rate and prices were great too. The taproom is large and has lots of seating and they have lots of good beer to go from the bottle shop as well. They even have spirits and the prices for rare bourbon were unbelievably good (compared with our home in TN). We loved stopping in here and it made for a great post-hike stop! read more

This is a great bottle shop located in downtown Tucson. The tap list rotates regularly and usually had a great mix of local and other beers. In addition to a long tap list, they also have a good selection of liquor for mixed drinks. They sometimes have live music and food trucks and when they don't, they usually have something chill playing (currently it's jazz). If to go is more your style, they have a huge selection of cans, wine, and liquor. The bar tenders are helpful and knowledgeable and willing to help. (Once, while searching for a local whiskey, the bartender took the time to call their other location for me.) If you are in downtown Tucson, this is a must stop. First time coming here because of the Ocho Tequila tasting event. Place was already quite full with regulars enjoying Friday after work drinks. Wife and I appreciated what T&B did for the event. Two different areas were sequestered for tasting with bites of food to fill the stomach. Ocho reps were extremely knowledgeable and super friendly, learned a lot about not only the distillery but also the level of craftsmanship they bring to each bottle. Want to give a big shout out to Marissa who had her hands full with a packed house and trying to manage a separate event at the same time. Nice large space with lots of open seating at the bar and various tables. Pretty friendly as well. They definitely carry a nice selection of beers and spirits and we found some yummy options. This is definitely one of those places where your bartenders are hit or miss and this can really determine the way the evening goes. The first lady that helped us was nice enough, but definitely didn't care to engage. We figured it was because she was wrapping up her shift. The next was a guy that really didn't want to be bothered to answer a question and appeared offended to be at the time and place to be asked a question. The second two ladies were very friendly, answered questions, and very helpful and welcoming. Maybe it was too many people behind the bar, who knows. I stopped by here as I was in the neighborhood. It was my first time and I wanted to see if the reviews were accurate. They are. A blues band was playing as I walked in. I sat at the bar and ordered a Pure Project Rain pilsner from San Diego. Service was friendly and fast. The beer was a classic beer. Pints of draft beer range from $7 to $8.50, depending on the alcohol volume. That seems to be the new price range these days. The place is smaller than I imagine, and I'm sure this place can get loud and crowded on a weekend. It's cozy when it's quiet, though, with the dark wood interior. Tables are up front by the door, and a long bench is in the rear where the chilled beers are. Upon recommendation of my fiancé's brother & his wife (who have been to multiple breweries in Tucson), we all headed over to Tap & Bottle to get some brews. All orders were placed at the bar and the beers were poured & served to us immediately. I was really surprised to see that they had 20+ beer choices on tap AND also a few wine choices on tap. I'm actually not much of a beer drinker, so I thought I would try out some of the fruitier beers. I went with a flight of the Death by Coconut, Belgian Peach, Passionfruit Pinner, and Imperial Raspberry Stout. As expected, I liked the Belgian Peach and Passionfruit Pinner the best since the Death by Coconut and Imperial Raspberry Stout were both dark beers. While the coconut, peach, and passionfruit flavor came through in the beers, the raspberry one was the only one that did not have as much of the flavor as expected. I actually liked the Passionfruit Pinner so much, I went back up to get a 16oz glass of it (which is unusual for me). My fiancé ended up going with a flight as well with the Campfire Stout, Tank 7, Victory @ Sea, and Black Butte XXVIII. Three of the beers were really dark (Tank 7 was not), but the favorite of this flight was definitely the Campfire Stout. You could literally taste a marshmallow flavor in the beer, like a s'more. His brother ended up going back to get that a full glass of that one and commented that he liked it much more than the Death by Coconut which he had gotten first. Fiancé's brother's wife got two different kinds of red wine and commented that the AZ wine (did not catch the name) was the better of the two. Pricing was fair (I believe). The four 5oz pours for the flight were $9, and the 16oz was $5.50. I'm not sure how this compares to other breweries, however I will say that the beers were very strong! We went early afternoon on a Saturday so it wasn't too busy. We were able to grab a parking spot right out front and an empty table inside as well. I didn't get a chance to look through their bottle beer selection but did notice they had quite a few options. I would definitely make a trip back here while in Tucson! read more

Every bit as cool Inside as it looks from the outside. In the art district, this wine bar has the set of tinted windows to match the other businesses on this road. They have an extensive list of wine and beer available including a massive collection of bottles in the back area. I love Tap and Bottle. They've definitely figured out how to both be a great purveyor for craft beer (with a nice wine selection, but more on that later) as well as provide a great casual atmosphere for small groups to get together over some drinks for any occasion (they've even got a pretty moderate selection of board games/card games available to the public!). They always have a solid rotation of local and non-local craft beers on tap, in addition to a couple wines and meads. Frequently they'll also host events, from collaborating with local breweries to celebrating a special bottle release from a larger popular nationwide brewery, and more. Personally, one of the reasons I truly love T&B however is that they happen to be one of the few carriers of natural wines (to my knowledge) in Tucson. I won't go into a lengthy discussion of what natural wine is on this posting, but I encourage people to look into it if they're fans of wine. Not only do they seem to buy a nice selection of natural wines to sell, but they even started a natural wine club called "Juice Box" where subscribers can sign up for __X__ # of months at a time, and receive 2 monthly natural wines with fantastic tasting notes/descriptions of the wine to accompany them. I like that their beer fridges are sectioned into types of beers and one just for seasonal/hard to find beers. I don't get why there is a drink on site fee, must be something in the liquor license? An added bonus is this place is dog friendly but when it's super packed, little dogs are best held. I went to Australia in 2007 and liquor stores are called "Bottle Shops," so when I come back and call them that, people think I'm crazy. But Tap & Bottle is what I'd call a Bottle Shop. Plus tap room. The selection is insane. Sours, pale ales, pilsners, stouts, barley wine, porters.... it's endless. You can select a bottle or can from the refrigerators and sit down with it, or take it to go. They also have beers on draft to choose from. You'll be dizzy from the selection and there's something for everyone. On the day I went, their draft was Sours and you could do a flight of 5 for $20. Parking is minimal and on weekends you may be hard pressed to find parking. But it's worth a visit. read more

I'm a huge beer girl and a snobby elitist one at that.... with that..... Love this place! Finally a craft beer place without obnoxiously loud music [or they haven't caved into it yet... ugh.. If I wanted that, I'd go to a whack club... I go to these places for great beer, and great conversation.] I was waiting for a friend and chatted it up with the 2 bartenders in the meantime. They were super friendly however I felt they could get to know a bit more about beer and the beer that they're serving especially. I felt I knew more about them.... I was ready to take his spot and apply for a job so that someone there knew their stuff... One of my favorite craft beer places ever is Haymerchant in Houston and I can say that this is probably the closest to it that Tucson has to offer and that's GREAT that there even are parallels I can draw! In comparison to other beer places, I'd say Please oh please get more taps! [the selection is great, but 1702 and some other places are killing it with their selection and # of tap handles... even yucky Junxion has 7 IPA handles alone.. and Whole Foods has more handles....] Not sure how service is so I just went to the bar and grabbed a seat there. Alas, I searched Total Wine for weeks and could not fine neither Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin nor Watermelon Dorado. Any place that has new release Ballast Point beer when I can't find same in the entire Valley of the Sun is a five-star establishment in my book. The selection is well organized and includes many So Cal beer of which I've missed dearly since moving to AZ. Aside from their wide assortment of beers, T&B is a lively place that I will definitely check out again/further upon my next stop to Tucson. The place was fully packed on a Saturday night yet the staff was still on it enough to complete my purchase right away. An easy 5 stars to these guys. In order to get a taste of the local beer scene, I stopped in to Tap & Bottle on a recent trip to Tucson. I was really impressed by T&B because it is so much more than just another beer bar. In the back they have an incredible number of bottled beers from all over the world. Whomever does the buying for them knows their stuff, as it is pretty much a "who's, who" of the beer world. You can buy bottles to go (at incredible prices), or drink 'em there for an extra $1.50. The front houses a more traditional bar area, with twenty quality beers on tap. You can buy flights (~$8 for four pours), pints, or even fill a growler. The beer list mostly consists of beers from Arizona/California/Colorado, but there are also a few gems thrown in from elsewhere. They also have wine, if that's your thing. T&B is hipster, but somehow manages not to be pretentious. It is cozy. The type of place I would go to unwind after a long day. They have lots of events, including tastings and live music. Food trucks can be found Thursday-Saturday evenings. I would recommend T&B to both local and traveling beer enthusiasts! read more

As a general rule, the finer things in life are harder to find or achieve. This even applies to my favorite hole-in-a-wall drinking establishment... Tap & Bottle! But once you find it, they make it easy to enjoy the finer things by offering an incredible selection of beer and wine. The sign says 'Tap & Bottle' but it could easily say 'Celebrate Libations!' In fact, it's partially exclaimed in the decor. The words "Yay Beer!" are visible in the back above the coolers. There are several reasons why I hit this place with friends whenever I'm in Tucson. 1) There's nothing like it in Phoenix (yet). 2) The character of the space. I believe it use to be a hardware store. 3) You can enjoy wine or beer on tap. 4) Or go grab a bottle or can from the coolers in back. 5) They fill growlers or their own "crowlers". 6) The selection is always changing and shows serious props to the local brewers! Go Arizona Beer! 7) It's not a sports bar. There are no televisions. Just great people hanging out having conversations and enjoying whatever is in their glass. 8) The menu board with the next keg "on deck". 9) The variety of food vendors and food trucks who park out front to fill the void of not having a kitchen. I could go on... The only downside is the parking situation. Spaces are scarce, but that's typical in this part of town. Be patient, walk a little further, and you will be rewarded! Seriously, I know the shiny lights draw the college crowd to Fourth Avenue and Congress, like moths to a bug zapper. I think we came in at the wrong time. I have read and looked over a series of excellent reviews on Tap & Bottle and I was so excited to stop in. I saw ahead of time that they had some Fort Collins beers on tap (I was particularly happy that they had Funkwerks - and New Belgium [duh]), so we made our stop in on a Monday when they opened at 2pm. The bartender was.... fairly cold. Almost icy. He did not seem in the mood or had much interest to help us when we asked about a beer flight. It was not the welcoming environment I'd expect from an awesome sounding beer house in Tucson. I ended up going with the following in a flight: -Tropic King Saison (Funkwerks) -Prop Culture Funky-Saison(Odell) -Aunt Sally Tart Sour (Laguintas) -Stronghold Session (Dragoon). It's hard to go wrong with Lagunitas, and in this case it was my favorite of the four. I really like how involved in the community Tap & Bottle seems to be - with all of the food truck nights and additional fun beer events offered. I wanted to ask more about what some of these events entailed... but there was no way I was going to go up to the icy bartender to ask. So here I continue to sit in my utter lack of knowledge. Before we left, I made my way to the "bottle" section of Tap & Bottle to see if they had one that I've been searching all over Tucson for - New Belgium's Tart Lychee. The guy who was doing the stocking made up for the bartender's demeanor; he was a lot more friendly and helpful when I asked if he had it in stock (turns out, he had ordered it the day before, and was hoping it'd be in the next day). I had plans to stop in on Tuesday - when he thought it'd be in, but in all honesty, when the time came, I wasn't in the mood to go in again - it just didn't leave a great taste in my mouth from the previous day's experience. I loved this place in so many ways. Loved: - the high ceilings -the well-lit space - the spaciousness - the bottle shop/bar concept, which New Mexico so desperately needs (Tap and Bottle owners, if you're listening, open one of these in Albuquerque. I'd quit my job to work for a place this great.) -the impeccable selection I'll deviate from my bullets to really comment on the selection. It was superb. There's a cask option, which is always a nice touch and it was cool that it was a beer, Jalapeno Cherry Bomb IPA from Dragoon, that not even the brewery had on tap when I was there the day before. The rest of the tap selection was a good mix of styles and local (Huss, Four Peaks, etc.) and national craft options. They even had a gose! Yep, goses aren't easy to find, but Tap and Bottle had a great representation of this German style courtesy of Destihl. I recommend it if it's on tap. Then there's the obscene bottle selection. Woosa! So many bottles to choose from. The selection here was better than Plaza Liquors! The beers were arranged by style and had many of the heavy-hitters of craft, Firestone Walker, Dogfish Head, Mikkeller, Tool, Sierra Nevada, Oskar Blues, and I could go on and on. The bartender was even so kind as to hip me to a great price on a Uinta beer, which I was able to get for $10 cheaper than it normally should cost. Gracias. The pourers were also some friendly folks that seemed to know their beers and appreciate them. Also, the prices of pours were very reasonable, ranging from around $4-9. If I lived in Tucson, I'd be in here everyday probably. I also like they support local breweries and can usually find something made here in Tucson. The staff is outstanding with providing options if you are undecided and patient if you trying work through their selection list and if you cannot find something on tap, their beers are not limited to drafts, Tap & Bottle has a large selection of cans or bottles. I love trying a variety of beers and their bottle shop definitely gives a person a lot to make a selection from sours to stouts and US to abroad. But not everyone likes beer (shame on you), they also have a variety of wines available; not as extensive as the beer selection, but varied enough to find something enjoyable. But this time was different the staff was terrible and are incredibly rude and mean to us after we got a beer at 11pm (keep in mind we already had an open tab and arrived there around 10pm and ordered food from the food truck outside) then they threatened to call the cops for opening a beer and claimed we should know the law and that it was against the law. This place is a new favorite already. Went for the first time this past Saturday night ready to have a good time and celebrate the birthday and LSAT completion of my brilliant friend! We weren't let down. The crowd seemed really cool-- not very many college kids slurring up the scene. The drink selection was great. We felt inspired to explore new beers-- well, wine for me, beer for the dude. The bartenders were friendly, which is a RELIEF. I don't quite understand the trend of unfriendly bartenders in some of Tucson's new bars. They seemed like they were happy and having a good time. Not the ornery, judgmental, frownie-face, "your drink order is an interruption" type. Refreshing! I caught them smiling and grooving more than once. Yes. I said grooving. We sat at the end of the bar, farthest into the bar, close to the wall of beer bottles and we weren't jostled or bothered by anyone. I understand they are only open until 12 midnight, and while part of me wishes they'd be open a little later, I also understand that this may be a form of crowd control -- not as far as the number of patrons, but perhaps the type of patron. We started the night there and ended up at Hotel Congress. We were a little worried about leaving the car in that lot overnight, but he was still in one piece, waiting anxiously for his pa' the next day. I would suggest they consider lighting that lot a little bit better. There were rogue beer bottles all over the place, and it was a little too dark of a parking lot for a girl to walk from alone.
