I was looking for a Vietnamese restaurant in Ajax. This restaurant came up in my search results. We decided to give it a try. Please note this establishment only accepts cash or debit. You get 10% discount for cash payment. There's a QR code to download the menu on your phone. Physical menus are available as well. The menu is pretty straight forward. You have your specialty Pho noodle soups - vegan and vegetable options are available. We ordered P1 House Special Pho $18.99 L. The noodles were cooked just right and there was a large portion of tripe, rare beef, beef flank, beef balls. The broth was ok but lacked the depth of flavors. It was missing some cilantro to give it a nice aromatic kick. We ordered C12 Grilled pork and beef on rice $16.99. There's a decent portion of beef and pork. I would have liked the meats to be piping hot when coming out of the kitchen. Im not sure if these meats were precooked and then reheated. I ordered B11 Meat lover vermicelli $18.99 which comes with grilled pork, beef, chicken and spring roll. You can tell the meat here was precooked and sliced for their banh mi sandwiches. There's a generous portion of meat, vermicelli noodles and the vegetables. You need to add fish sauce and toss everything together. The pork spring rolls were crispy and filled with ground pork. I would say they are nothing special. Overall the food was pretty good just wish they used freshly grilled meats in their vermicelli dishes.

On Saturday, I was looking to grab some dinner before a concert at The Arena at Pickering Casino Resort. I felt like something with noodles. I did a search and found Good Pho You. I love businesses with punny names. It was a no-brainer decision to come here. It was also a bonus that this eatery was a five-minute drive away from The Arena. I had no problem finding this place. It's in a plaza that was buzzing at around 6 pm when I arrived. As luck would have it, I found a spot steps away from this eatery. I backed into it and headed over. Once I entered the restaurant, I was quickly greeted by a woman. I got a two-seat table at the back. The chair that I originally tried out was rickety. I swapped it out with the other one to avoid feeling nauseous. I was good. The woman asked me if I wanted tea or water. I asked for water. I got tea. Oh, well. I like both, but it was a muggy day and a cold drink would have been nice. I will say that the tea was yummy. To order, you scan the QR code on the table for the menu. It was easy. I got the following items: - A2 - Fresh rice paper rolls with grilled pork (2 pieces) - B1 - Bun dac biet (house special) - Diet Coke My normal go-to dish at a Vietnamese restaurant is pho with rare beef and beef balls. It was such a humid day that I didn't want a hot bowl of pho noodle soup. That's why I switched to a non-soup dish. My Diet Coke came out first. The woman asked if I wanted a cup with ice. I said yes. I got it. You can't mess up a canned Diet Coke. Having this drink with ice made it better on a hot day. I actually commented on the wording for A2 on the menu. The description has "shrimp, grilled pork, grilled beef, grilled chicken, Vietnamese sausage, tofu, lemongrass tofu, vegetable (served with peanut sauce)." There was no and. There was no or. Do I get all proteins or am I expected to select one? It should be the latter, so an or needs to be there. Anyway, A2 came out first. The fresh rolls were a generous size. What this eatery does well is grill protein. The grilled pork in these fresh rolls were outstanding. The pork was tender and flavourful. I loved the lettuce, carrots, and vermicelli in each roll. The peanut sauce was delicious. I'd definitely get them again. I also love that there are two varieties of tofu that you can get if you are vegan or vegetarian. My bun dac biet came out next. With this dish, I got lots of protein! It contained grilled grilled pork, beef, shrimp, spring roll, and veggies with vermicelli. There was sauce served on the side. I mixed it in. This dish was excellent. Again, this eatery grills protein to perfection. The shrimp, pork, and beef were all tender and scrumptious. The vermicelli was perfect. The veggies were crispy and brought a ton of freshness to this dish. The spring roll was crunchy and yummy. The sauce unified everything. I highly recommend this dish. There were two women serving customers. They were both efficient and nice. This eatery only accepts debit cards and cash. I walked up to the counter to pay for my meal with a debit card. The transaction was smooth. I wished the woman who had greeted me a great day. I let her know that the food was fantastic. She was pleased and wished me a great day in return. I left and had 45 minutes to spare before my concert. It's the perfect place to grab a bite to eat before hitting the casino. I did see folks eating banh mi. I'll need to get one next time. This restaurant is a lovely addition to Ajax and Durham region. Pho real. I love the name of this eatery. The food here is truly good pho you. =) (214)

I had a craving for Vietnamese Pho so I called up a friend and we headed over to Good Pho You in Ajax. I've wanted to try this place for quite a while. We ordered their House Special Pho, their Rare Beef and Flank Pho, and their Fried Spring Rolls. The spring rolls had good flavour, although they were a bit smaller than what I'm used to. We had both ordered the medium-sized pho and it was good sized portions, with lots of meat and noodles. I would have preferred a bit more flavour in the broth but it was good. The meat was all perfectly tender and the noodles were also perfectly cooked. Our server, Ingrid, was the perfect host! She checked on us several times and was quite friendly and engaging. Great service! We'll be back...

Grilled beef and pork with rice and vegetables

After spending some time at the big apple, 8 of us were really hungry. Someone suggested Pho, but there were not many pho places in Durham region that we knew of. The one located by our house wasn't that great. When we were checking out Google reviews, the name alone got our attention and we decided to check it out. A small side note - A while ago, our favorite place in Scarborough - Pho Nam Dinh (which I have previously reviewed) had closed and we had no true successor location ever since. Although no place can truly replace what is gone, this place has come really close. Atmosphere - B+ - located inside a strip mall, the overall space is ok. I think about 20 people could comfortably sit inside the dining area. Standard white paint was throughout the area. A few frames of art here and there. Not sure why, but I found it interesting that there were 3 tvs located near the ceiling. Almost everyone has a clear view of a screen somewhere. The news was on, but i would hope that if there was a significant sporting event, they would change the channel. Service - A - overall, the staff were very attentive to our needs. I asked the staff a few times for extra plates and napkins and they were brought out right away. I also don't feel that we waited particularly long for all the food to come out. We came at a good time too,we were seated right away before it got crowded. Food - A+ - I feel that this the first pho restaurant that we were truly impressed with. I ordered the grilled beef and pork with rice and vegetables. To me, the serving size was just right. I was able to share some meat and rice with my kids and still had enough to be satisfied. The meat was cooked well, and although not a big difference in terms of taste from other places, it was delicious and I was very happy with what I ordered. We also ordered 2 large pho and I seriously believe that this was the largest bowl of pho I have seen. It really was big, I didnt really have anything to compare it with in the photo. Noodles were nice and the tripe and need balls were flavourful. I was a bit surprised that the restaurant did not serve beef tendon. That was something I was looking forward to, but the size made up for it. My wife ordered a plate of chicken wings after tasting it from the other table. The wings were crispy with a garlic fish sauce coating that I have not tasted before. It was really delicious and definitely a nice addition to our overall meal. Value - B - let's face it, everything is expensive now a days, eating out should be more of a treat and not something that should be done often. When we first saw the prices for the pho, we did think that for the same price, we could have gone to a buffet. This time, I'm glad we didn't go, but for everything that we did get, it cost about 70$. Pre pandemic, I feel that we could have gotten the same amount of food for $50. There is a cash discount of 10% which is nice. Again considering how expensive everything is, I feel we got an overall ok value in terms of what we paid for what we got. Overall - A- - I am extremely glad that we found this place. The food is really good, service is nice and it's not that far from where we live. I would strongly recommend this place for the size of Pho bowl alone, but they have other items which are great. If we don't eat here, then for sure this is where I will go next for takeout. I feel that this is a worthy successor to our old place and very happy to have found it.

Brisket and beef balls pho, Kimchi fries (background)

We've been enjoying Good Pho you for several years now and we still go back! They just get their soups right! The flavour of the soups are delicious, they have perfected the ratio of herbs so the soups are perfectly balanced. My daughter calls this "the good pho", because it tastes better than other places, and the brisket is a lot more tender and easy for her to chew. Pre-covid, we absolutely loved their crispy spring rolls and the kimchi fries. Post-covid, it seems their recipe for the spring rolls has changed over the years and I don't enjoy the flavour anymore. The kimchi fries are still delicious, although with a bit less chicken. Understandable with the cost of ingredients rising, and I still would recommend trying it!

Ferlisa S.

Love the food , taste great and good amount of serving. Love their chickens wings too. Flavourful, saucy and crispy chicken wings. The large pho is really large and good amount of meat servings. Will definitely come back.

Bun bo hue. NOT the best ever. Previous review was very deceiving.
Linda N.

I went to this place based on the reviews and looked at one of the reviews left by another Yelp member. Recommending the Bun bo hue; I've had better. For it being the only near by place in Pickering I guess it's not that bad. But to drive an extra 10/15 mins you could definitely get your moneys worth at a different pho restaurant. Based on the managers comment on my review. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The place is super tiny. And could have a warmer feel. I am sorry to those who feel this place was amazing. But honestly you are better off spending your money at a different restaurant.

Bahn Mi
Riley D.

Truly the best Bahn Mi sandwich in Durham, NO contest. Better than most places in Scarborough and Toronto as well. Super legit. I normally go for the lemongrass chicken with extra vegetables and extra chicken and let me tell you, they LOAD this thing. Their sauce is bomb, their chicken is super juicy and their bread is *chefs kiss*. The picture is their normal size order, definitely add the chicken and veg, makes this thing HUGE for little extra money. Worth it.

P1 (broth was packed separately) and grilled pork roll

Decided to try this place after seeing multiple posts on "Durham Eats" fb group. It was perfect on a cool rainy day! Ordered 2 Pho, broth was awesome! Full of flavour without being too salty...looking forward to trying the Bun Bo Hue next time. The grilled pork rice paper roll was yummy, but I need to try the shrimp one next time as that is the usual roll at most Viet places. Also ordered fried tofu to satisfy craving, it did the job. Looking forward to trying the other dishes on the menu next...may be as early as next week. Yes, totally willing to drive from west Pickering as we're not ready to dine-in anywhere yet. Thought they only accept debit and cash, 10% on cash payment is definitely a bonus!

Great apps and are definitely grill masters. I know that people associate Vietnamese food usually with PHO, however they seem to forget that they have lots of great appetizers and also dry dishes as well like barbeque grilled meats. I would like to add I read many of the reviews saying that they did not think the Bun Bo Hue met their standard. However I did think that they did a good job, there was still the aroma of the spices that matter, and like any dish varies from chef to chef, people eat it differently or experience the taste differently. I find that the soup was less salty than most places. I can smell the star anise, & cinnamon which is a good sign! But I will definitely focus on their apps and grilled plates. This restaurant made delicious grilled beef served with rice and fish sauce!!! You can very much taste that delicious grill flavor, along with amazing marinated Sweet and savoury beef juices as you take a bite!. I would also recommend their garlic and fish sauce wings, thought I would taste only salt but had a great glaze over top of it that was just the right amount of sweet as well. Especially those yummy green onions ontop with glaze. Their FRESH rolls, lived up to the name! Presented nicely and rolled with care. With just the right amount of crunch. There are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants opening around Ajax and Pickering area but I find this place to be really awesome choice to eat at, price, service, taste are all 10 out of 10, and lastly good location. Can't wait to come back again.

Tips: - This place takes debit and cash only…read more - The hot tea is scorching hot. A couple of Wednesdays ago, after work, I had an early dinner at this Pho Anh Vu on Highway 7 in Vaughan, between Keele and Jane streets. I have passed by this eatery a number of times since it opened. It was time to check it out. This location used to be Veg Italiano. There used to be a pho place a few doors down. It is now a Turkish eatery. This small plaza does have some turnover. However, the Turkish place and this eatery have been here for at least a couple of years. I hope they remain. I got here at around 3:30 pm. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I backed into a vacant one and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a male staffer. I got to sit wherever I wanted. I chose a booth by the window. I got menus to peruse. There were two other tables with customers. It was nice. Hot tea came to me with two cups. The hot tea was exceptionally piping hot. I used both cups to pour tea into them and let them cool. I was ready to order. It took a long time to get a server to come over. The woman at the counter noticed that I was ready and flagged the male server to take my order. I got these items: - Soda lemonade - Grilled chicken on vermicelli with spring rolls My soda lemonade came first. It was fizzy, cold, and refreshing. I loved it so much. I would get it again in a heartbeat. It also helped me down my food as I waited for my hot tea to cool down. When my tea was finally at a temperature that wouldn't scorch my tongue, it was fragrant and yummy. I loved the grilled chicken. It was flavourful and grilled to perfection. The vermicelli was generous and yummy. The spring rolls were stuffed and crispy. This dish came with dipping sauce that I ended up pouring on everything. I feel that I needed more of it. I paid at the counter with a debit card. I tapped and was good. This eatery got busy after 4 pm. My guess is that everyone came to watch the Canada-Switzerland FIFA game. It got tense in the place. Eventually, Canada lost this game. I used the washroom before I left. It was beautiful and clean. It's a decent location that serves good food. The tea was too hot. Service started off slow, but was a lot better once my order was place. I'd love to return to try more items off the menu. (280)
