I come here for Herbert Holler parties. Aka the parties that start at 6pm and end at 10pm. Perfect for those of us who no longer want to leave the house after 10pm...lol! Old school hip-hop and R&B. The music that feeds ya soul and gets the hips moving. If you dont want to dance, go somewhere else and stand in a corner. The drinks are not cocktail quality but ya can't mess up a gin and tonic. For a live music venue, Le Poisson Rouge is an excellent venue. You can really get in there and see music close up. We saw Luke Spiller and Le Poisson Rouge did not disappoint. With room for 700, if you get in there early, you'll be happy you did. Doors opened at 7 and we were there around 630 and waited with a very orderly crowd. The venue checked our IDs while we were online and got us started with. wrist bands and stamps. Once inside there is a coat check for $5 and they also sold merch for the performers. I will definitely be back again. In a city of 8.5 million people, it's amazing you can see your favorite performers up close and personal like we did here at Le Poisson Rouge. read more

This is an interesting venue. You have the option to sit down for a meal or stand up to watch the performance. Other reviewers are correct. The drinks are expensive. I came here on a Wednesday night to see Andrew Belle. The opening act started at 8:30PM and the main act started at 9PM. He sang for one hour. When he was singing the last song, we heard a car alarm from outside. This is not my favorite venue. However, I am glad that I was able to see him singing live. read more

The show carries most of this review (the French cabaret, Madame Arthur). Le Poisson Rouge is described as a "barn-like" venue. Seems most often it's for concerts in "standing room only" format (no thanks, I'm middle aged and want a seat and to be able to see the stage). For Madame Arthur, there were cheaper standing room only tickets, but also premium table tickets, which are still first come, first serve for buyers. The tables were four chairs smashed together with wobbly tables. Very little room. We were lucky that only three people ended up sitting on each side of our table because that was tight enough . . . never mind shoving four people into that space. The guy across from me was a bigger guy, and clearly uncomfortable. It was a suboptimal setup, but the ticket was less than 50 dollars, so to me, it was worth it. There is a two item minimum. Basic cocktails and drafts, but I think the real value is in getting the carafes of wine. I also got a cheese board, which for a place like this, was pretty good! Service was a little spotty and slow, but not their fault. There were a ton of people there and not enough staff. Entry into the venue was smooth, staff efficient and professional. Overall, would go to this place again. They have all sorts of events--concerts, comedy shows, dance parties, raves, etc. And I'm trying to find more American shows for Madame Arthur as we speak! read more

I brought a bunch of people to see Dave Hill's Caveman in a Spaceship here the other night. I'm pretty sure I've been to the venue before but maybe for a dance party vs. a show. The set up was a stage in the corner of a room with booths in the front and middle "rows." Most tables had reserved and VIP signs, the rest were up for grabs for those of us with Standard tickets, and then standing room in the back. We had to twist in our seats the whole show in order to see, but it worked out ok for us. This was a 2 drink / food minimum per person. With 6 of us the bill came to $300 including gratuity. The charcuterie was $38 and was even tinier than the rip off I got at City Winery.. skip that one. It is what it is - choose wisely. My ginger mule was very tasty and boozy. Show, sound and lighting were 10/10. Nice reception / merch area as you exit. read more

The online menu looked good, but once we arrived we were told it was not available, and they had the uninteresting selection we were presented with only. I came here for a musical performance by Steve Mason, formerly the lead singer of the Beta Band from Scotland UK. I arrived here early. The ambience is decent. It's an absolutely fabulous place to see your fave bands up close and personal. If you want to get near the stage and literally be able to eat out of the palm of your rock-n-roll superstar hero, get there early, it's a win- win. Now service at the bar was prompt and seamless. The pain comes when you pay for your beverages. It's expensive, but then again, we are speaking of NYC. The island of concrete dreams and price tag screams. It's par for the course. They have gender neutral bathrooms. However, on this night, I think most people decided which bathroom was gonna be where the men relieve themselves and where the women go, separately. I had an enjoyable experience on the night I came here, it was a Tuesday. The place wasn't super crowded, the patrons were chill, and the music system as well as the acoustics, seemed to be flowing nicely. read more

The security staff is extremely rude. After a rock show, lots of fans were waiting around for the band to meet them and they barked at us like we were rioting. The police even got called eventhough literally nothing was happening. All of us were just waiting quietly. One security guard in particular, wouldn't stop picking a fight with my sister. He got in her face multiple times. She obviously lost her temper and cussed him out. If you work as security, you should protect people, not pick fights with them. I understand you have a job to do but, hey, maybe you can make some rules that prevent terrible stuff like this from happening, or hire new people that aren't completely miserable?? They were all very unprofessional and it completely turned me off from going there ever again. read more

The fact that LPR can attract the talents of some of humanity's greats is it's greatest quality. The food is decidedly unattractive, drinks sufficiently boozy but uninspired mixes make them a clear meh, as for service-well that gets a paragraph of its own. We purchased "Premium Seats" for this show, arrived early to queue up for best choices pf the best options, got let in and made our way to our table. To say the location was awesome needs only a reference to the photo. We were the first to sit in the section others trickled in over the next 45 minutes. Soon they were having their orders taken and what's this?! Getting their mediocre fare. Note the pronouns here, they. Five minutes before show time we flag down our server who takes our order after having to go back to the bar with the other folks at our table (who had just landed) order first. Then he returns and can't figure out our order until he can scan and pocket my card. Now, he forgot ¾ of what we had said before the card so we repeat it all over again. Long story short, being early meant we got served last well into the first act. The show, as I alluded to was totally worth the discomfort of the s#%^^* chairs. But I have gone to High School gyms to see Mr. Elling. The seats at LPR rivaled those gyms in the contest for least comfortable venue seating. All-in-all Kurt Elling played a killer set after a smoking 40 by the Huntertones ahead of him. Nothing, not even the general sadness of the LPR offerings could diminish. read more

First time attending this venue for a show. The show was amazing. Definitely worth standing the length of time that I did but my knees and feet are still angry at me two days later. I actually had on a very low inch heel (1 inch). There is some VIP seating in the back but it's so far from the stage that I don't think that I would pay for it. They do have some couches along with a large screen near the restrooms that you could watch the show in comfort so that was a plus. The rest rooms are gender neutral but it seems like the different genders gravitated to separate bath rooms. They do have a cost check. The cost is $4 and they only accept cash. They have two bars even though I didn't get anything. I don't recall seeing anyone with food and didn't think to check to see if that was an option. If you have allergies, there is a smoky vibe. Not cigarettes but the smoke machine. The lights near the stage are kind of bright and did interfere with my vision a few times because the light was shining in my eyes. Last, the water temperature in the bathroom was brutally cold. Handwashing is essential and because of the water temperature I saw a lot of improper handwashing. The bathroom stalls are also kind of narrow. All in all, if there was an artist performing there that I really wanted to see, I would definitely go back. I enjoyed myself. read more

Chris who works at the coat check who had a shift Nov 8th 2024 11:30 PM. But this incident happened at 1:00 am. With Chris. Usually when you want to grab something from your bag at coat check or put something they are chill. But he charged us again 4 dollars to put a coat away. Now I ask? Le Poisson Rouge is definitely one of my favorite spots in Greenwich Village, NYC. I saw Little Dragon play a show here once, and found the lighting, acoustics, and atmosphere to be spot on. If you like standing in a crowd for a show, this is also a good place for that. While it occupies a smaller space compared to most concert venues, I'd say you also have a better chance of actually chatting with band members here. This place is a great venue. Saw two shows here! Great acoustic and a great crowd! The only negative is the security guards. -There was no line when I arrived and was already standing with my i.d. presented to the security. They both were having a power trip and wanted my friend and I to walk around the barricade to get back to where we were already standing. It was plain uncouth and in someways trying to degrade us. I'm not sure how these men handle women in their private lives but that's not how it works in the hospitality business. read more

We went here to see Pop Punk High musical courtesy of Yelp. Our event was in the main space which was one of their venues. The musical was a concert style (standing only)but there were few chairs and couches to sit on while watching the show, snack menu are not really impressive but the booze department will leave you satisfied. Recently caught Cruel Intentions: The Musical here and thought the show and performances were really top notch fun. I had this feeling it was more of a tryout for a proper theater, or even Broadway. The dinner theater style setup is NOT my favorite way to see a show, but since it is setup this way here are suggestions on ways to improve: Nearby City Winery has an awesome ticketing system where you are able to choose your seats/location on a seating chart when you purchase your tickets. Those seats are held for you during the entire performance. It is much better than trying to get there an hour before show time to scramble for a decent seat. I felt bad for someone that obviously bought the more expensive "Secret Society" reserved seating and they ran out of the better seats in front so they simply put a reserved sign a table behind us (we didn't have upgraded table seats) since the person arrived closer to showtime. They pack you in here with seats being really close together so make some friends! There is a minimum of 2 drinks/food items with a table seat. The food options could be better. I got the spicy chicken pressed sandwich which was cold cut style chicken in between buttered pressed white bread with a side of potato chips. Meh. Everyone and anyone that knows me knows that I rarely to never go to music shows, concerts, venues, clubs, etc. etc. etc. unless I really care about you or the show that's being viewed. Anyway, I came here for both a show/birthday the other weekend. Was always curious about what Le Poisson Rouge looked like inside. Not gonna lie, back in the day when I heard Macaulay Culkin would pop by and do dj nights here, it was TEMPTING. The place is kind of what you would expect. I think I was in stimulus overload upon entrance so I don't remember everything/anything. Trust in that I was surprisingly sober. There's an entrance. After they check your tickets I believe you go down a set of stairs and then there's a coat check, followed by a bar area, band merch tables. I guess it really depends on the show you're coming in for and the set up. Next room over has disco balls and lights everywhere, a relatively small stage, a vip area with tables, and another bar. I did try a few things at the bar as my anxiety kicked in through the night. Pluses: VERY affordable bar for a music venue. You can get a beer for only $5-6 which is unheard of I feel at most of these kinds of spots. Also, not a horrible beer selection. Wine on tap was only $9. All around, really not bad. A bit cramped of a venue but it was cozy and neat and the lighting and sound was good. Bathrooms - relatively clean. All surprising pluses. read more

Came here to see Ravi Coltrane during Jazz Winterfest. The venue is a nice size but small enough to feel intimate. It was standing room which I didn't enjoy - because I'm vertically challenged and it seems like everyone and their mother likes to violate my personal space . I spoke to another patron who said that there are normally seats and tables which would make more sense but I assume they were more interested in getting more tickets sold than the comfort of the patrons I would consider going back if there were seats /tables Otherwise I enjoyed the show read more

The Freedom Party is held here once a month- the Last Friday of every month! If you want to dance to 80s and 90's music this is the place! Great crowd. The music is loud, the crowd is singing, Everyone is sweating. You can dance for like 3-5 hours straight! Only costs $10/$13 on eventbrite with fees or $20 at the door. J'aime (Le) Poisson Rouge! Not just because its name is in French, but also because they have great acts and a cool fish tank held up by chains. There's an upstairs that's down stairs and and a downstairs that's self explanatory. The theatre with the upstairs entrance is to the right and it's ginormous. The space allows for reserved seating (best to book early for peak performances). There's a bar at the rear, and some elevated seating to the right as soon as one enters the space. The stage is to one's left. Reserved seating is usually straight ahead. Thrones are to the right of the bar. This space is perfect for acoustic performances. I've noticed that when I saw Brio Con Trio of Copenhagen, the sound roamed through the room without piercing one's ears. There were some microphones, but no amplifiers used or enhancers. When, the opposite occurs like for big-name bands or Lucky Linda's Ho Ho Bingo, the sound resonates but to the point of I need earplugs! ------------------------------------- The downstairs theatre whose path is to the right of the fish tank is for smaller productions, like a regular show of Lucky Linda's Bingo and with special guest Lai Batti. The bar is immediately to one's right with seating on the opposite wall and in front of the stage. The space is long and narrow. Bathrooms are across from the bottom of the stairs. The food and drinks are the same for each theatre. Generally the nourishment options are pretty good. I would not recommend the hearty salad - it leads to intensely bad breath. It doesn't matter how many mints you eat or chew. You will have the nastiest breath until you brush your teeth a second time the morning after. Drinks are decent and unique. Seats are relatively comfortable. Often times there is standing room, when seats cannot be reserved (1st come, 1st serve) or when the venue is packed for larger events. The Thrones are real. There are rouge poissons crafted in the thrones before the thrones that take away your excrement. They also have photo booths (for an extra fare) while you wait, in case you want to show what your face looks like when you really gotta go! - OR, post visiting the toilet - for a little relaxed facial fun. We got tickets for the Freedom dance party here & ahhh it was not great. First up the place has no real order when checking your Coat in/out. One big line seems like for both although when we left we were able to step to the side. Next the place was crazy jammed packed lord all mighty way way too many people this was insane, no room to move let alone dance with so many people it was like a sauna inside. Took forever to get drinks because not enough bartenders which is always a pain no matter where u go. I only gave this place the two stars because the music was not bad aside from this the party was not enjoyable. read more

So happy I finally went here on Saturday night. I have heard such good things about how fun this place was, so I had been wanting to go for a while. We went with a group of about 8 people for friends birthday and had the best time. It was 80's night and the band Jessie's Girl played. They were amazing!!! Especially their female singer, so so talented and had the cutest outfits. The concept of this place is so fun. Different decades each night with only music from that decade playing. I think Fridays is 90s and Saturday is 80s. I'm not sure if they do others or not. You can purchase a ticket ahead of time online, or pay at the door is what we did. $28 to get in which is pretty pricey especially since most NYC places don't have covers. So definitely the kind of place you want to commit to for the entire night if you go! Drinks were also expensive (only reason it's not 5 stars). $17 for a vodka red bull - yikes. Overall tho, great vibes and so much fun!! Recommend this spot for a really fun night out, a place to take friends if they're visiting or a birthday! read more

I was here for the 80s party on a Saturday night. The band was super energetic and a lot of fun! Tickets were easy to get and quite affordable. Drinks were a little small and due to the crowded dance floor, often lead to spillage. They were also a little pricey, but that's to be expected for a place like this. It seemed easier to stick to bottles of beer due to cost as well as danceability. Located in a great area with a lot of other places nearby. We arrived a little after 11 PM in the place was completely full by midnight. I look forward to attending other shows at this venue in the future! read more

Just saw "Jessie's Girl" Back To The 80's show here and they are amazing! What a great band. A must see if into 80's rock, dance, pop, and new wave. The venue itself is down in a basement area on Bleeker Street. Dark and intimate, but large enough for a stage and medium sized dance floor area. Good sound overall for the performance we saw here. Can get a bit warm as it seems the AC was not turned up enough. Separate VIP / bottle service areas if that is your thing by the back of the dance floor. Large bar area along the far wall. Ok beer and drink list and the normal NYC prices as expected. Photo booth and ATM machine on the premises. Decently clean bathrooms which surprised me for a place like this. Even the staff including the bouncers were pretty cool. The crowd at this place are your basic younger bridge & tunnel meatheads and annoying chicks from the burbs though. At least that's what we were subjected to that night. Go for the band and try to ignore the crowd. read more

Recently came to Le Poisson Rouge to see Cruel Intentions the Musical. It was an overall fun and intimate theater experience. For table seating, the theater required a 2 item minimum. I ordered the French Dip sandwich with a side order of tater tots. The sandwich was pretty good but the tater tots were overly crispy and accompanying sauces didn't pair well. Service was attentive and the staff were great about getting us what we needed during the show. Table seating was a bit overcrowded, as we were stacked next to other parties and were uncomfortably close. I did, however, enjoy the intimate dinner theater experience that Le Poisson Rouge had to offer. I recommend coming to this place to check out an off-Broadway show. read more

So I came here to see Ravi Coltrane and I gotta say he did a great job!!! The venue itself was very nice and spacious. We stood outside for a little bit waiting for the doors to open and it was FREEZING cold! However, that had nothing to do with the venue -that was Mother Nature. Although the show was very good and the staff was cool, the only complaint I have is that there were NO SEATS literally in this spot. There was a select number of tables (maybe like 5) and small barstools in the back (maybe like another 5) in a place that easily had over a 100 people. We leaned against the wall/banister the entire night and even ended up leaving early because we couldn't take it anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love going to live shows however I also can appreciate a venue listing that there will be no seats in the description to avoid any confusion. read more
