They stayed with us all the way to making sure my husband's remains transported to the funeral home. They also made themselves available for anything we might need following his passing as well. Going through these tough days are easier by visits from priests (at least 3 times a week), food prepared daily, attentive staff, and all the comforts of home. I can not say thank you enough!!! My loved one feels better about transitioning knowing that prayer comes from 90 year old priests and deacons that have traveled as missionaries throughout the world (with more than 65-70 years of serving under their belt). I think my loved one is in good hands!

The property is only about 3 yrs old but looks brand new on the inside and outside. I believe they can house up to twelve guests although while my mom was there there were only 2, including my mom. The staff was nothing but kind and focused on treating their guests respectfully. It is NOT a medical facility, there aren't IV's everywhere and noisy equipment. The rooms are comfortable with TV's and Amazon Alexa to provide music. Normally (outside of this covid stupidity) there is access to a nice outside garden area, a chapel, and an inside social area.Hospice nurses check regularly on the guests to make sure they are as comfortable as possible.The staff not only check on the guests regularly but also check on the guests of the guest. In my moms case it seemed at first her meds weren't making her comfortable. The staff here noticed exactly the same thing so when the hospice nurses came by they worked with them to insure my mom was medicated adequately. I can't say enough about the staff. Hospice work HAS to be one of the hardest jobs on a persons physical AND mental well being. I know that I would be wholly inadequate to do this work and I really appreciate the folks that make it their calling. My experience has been aides that don't do anything but sit and be on their phones or they have no idea how to clean or they are consistently late or just call in last minute and then the office staff don't even notify me several times when the aide wasn't coming. The turnover rate seems huge and I have been gossiped about by office staff and treated like a child. I can't even understand how this is able to continue. I feel so passed off and I just give up. The type of care I got was not good at all. I feel so bad for the elderly that can't speak up. Don't use this company. Insurance fraud is a whole nother offense that is going on daily with this company. I'm so happy to be moving on!

I would like to first say that I try to check all reviews before I commit to something. I read all…read morethe good and all the bad and try to weigh out all the options and fairly judge a company. When my dad was referred to Avalon by his primary care doctor for the end stage liver failure a year ago we were happy to have someone come in to help our mom with his care. They had 2 5 star ratings and we thought we were getting a great company to work with. His first nurse Cliff was amazing. He found common ground with talking fishing with dad and quickly made him comfortable with having nurses in his home. But Cliff moved on to a different company. His next nurse was compassionate but was short with him and her visits were quick (15 mins) and never really asked if he or my mom needed any more help. She came once a week. Unless she had a "family emergency" or was not able to show. So dad would go a week sometimes 2 weeks without being seen. This neglect caused a clog in his drain port for the ascites that was building in his abdomen. The port had to be removed. From that point on my dad's health quickly deteriorated. He was in chronic pain all the time mostly complaining about upper back pain and breathing problems. He was told by Avalon that he was maxed out on pain meds and he couldn't have anything else. The ammonia built up multiple times over the past 3 months and he was delirious and my poor mother had to keep him clean from the bowel movements. He started to get bed sores. Still no concern from his nurse. Then he stopped having bowel movements and the nurse suggested my mother or sister give him an enema. It was my understanding that it was the hospice job not family to make him as comfortable as possible. She never showed the next day. We had to call our cousin from another hospice to help us out. That was the last straw for me and I couldn't stay quiet anymore and asked mom to get more people in to help her. She talked to the nurse about coming more to keep tabs on dad. And monitor his ammonia spikes and his fluctuating heart rates. Some days he went from 120bpm to 35bpm. An aide came twice to bathe dad. And the nurse came 2 days a week for the past month. No one seemed to care that this was happening and he could barely move without massive pain. He groaned all the time. He started to build ammonia again and my mom was the one cleaning him up. And making sure his meds were kept up on. She was in the middle of cleaning him up last Wednesday when he had a heart attack and passed. Here we are 8 days after his passing and hospice has yet to sign his death certificate. My dad is laying in the morgue waiting to be put at rest. The thing I'm most disappointed and saddest about is that my dad deserved dignity in life and in death. Neither happened with this pathetic company. I hope and pray this never happens to another family. And I would like to also end with. Don't always believe a company's gleaming reviews and maybe question why they do not put up the concerning reviews. My cousin who is a hospice nurse in KC put up a review and it was immediately taken down.

When I signed up with them I was told they have no problem working with moms primary doctor, etc. However, they did not work with her doctor. When there was a question they couldn't/wouldn't answer or a concern they couldn't/wouldn't address with me I would have to go to my mother's primary for the answer/info. They were never "comfortable or compliant" with her primary doc's findings/advice. Especially when it came to meds. Also, when my mom had a stroke while we were in the park, of course my knee-jerk reaction is to call 911. I did, long story short they abandoned me in my time of need. No returned ph calls fr anyone. The following Mon I was called by their social worker telling me I did an unforgiveable no-no by taking my mom to ER & they dropped me just like that. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT! I was told they would work with her outside providers! Their motto is "Compassionate guardians of comfort and dignity"...They were none of this to my mother & me!
