The Briscoe with scrambled eggs, potatoes, toast, refried beans, venison sausage and a side of bacon was the best brunch I've had in years. My date ordered La Guisada. She loved it and was nice enough to share after I traded her some avocado and cilantro. The eggs with green salsa stewed pork over beans and rice with crema and queso fresco wrapped in a tortilla made from scratch was incredible. Goode Co. has perfected the margarita with their Damn Goode Margarita on the rocks. I forgot the name of the silver tequila and the orange liqueur they used, but it was perfection. We've tried to like this place but I've given up. This was our 4th visit and, previously, and we'd been batting about 500 - 2 ok visits, 2 not so great. We made a reservation for Friday at 7:15 and, as expected, the place was very busy. No worries, if they aren't busy at Friday prime time, they have a problem. Our server did his best but he had patio tables as well as several inside. We ordered adult beverages which took 45 minutes to come out. Our entrees appeared after an hour plus and were particularly underwhelming. My shrimp tacos consisted of 2 1/2 shrimps on two corn tortillas. For $27. Do better Goode Company. read more

Definitely did not use the sauce as it was "meh" and ruined to taste profile of the filling: PORK & GREEN CHILE EMPANADAS Handmade pies stuffed with our pork green chile guisada, served with avocado crema CARNITAS Marinated, braised and crisped pork (a three-day preparation process), served with fresh salsa verde: This plate was $28.00 for 7 bites of pork butt roast you can purchase at H‑E‑B for $1.99. My friend had raved about it and I am not sure why. The description states it's marinated in a 3-day process. Must have been marinated in water as it was devoid of flavor other than smoke. Sure it was tender but overall "meh." The salsa verde was flavorless as well. Salt did not help. And speaking of their red salsa brought to the table when we sat down? Devoid of flavor. Salt did not help. No flavor. No heat. Just tasted of plain tomatoes out of a can. Unlike any salsa I've had before. The rice and beans were devoid of flavor. Salt did not help. It is like the chef's Cooke though forgot to season anything today. It is absolutely the wildest thing. OLD NO. 7 Crispy beef taco, cheese enchilada, pork carnitas tostada Kiddo got this. Even though the restaurant was busy, our server, LaKenya, didn't miss a beat. She was very friendly and checked on us regularly. The kitchen was rocking and rolling. They ended up sending out our fajitas too quick, but the plates are hot and continue to cook. We wanted medium rare, so had we kept them, by the time we started to eat they'd be well done. Without hesitation, La Kenya took them back and told us to let her know when we were ready. I actually almost said we'd just keep them, but the look on my face must've said something different. Even though this is located on the Katy Freeway feeder, the door faces the opposite direction and feels like a hideaway for upper class Bunker Hill types. We love sitting at the Bar which has an elegant hunting lodge vibe and sharing a plate of Fajitas. My husband loves their spicy Margaritas made with poblano liqueur and taijin seasoning. The chips are great and go well with the warm salsa. I came here for a work dinner, having read many recommendations about Goode Co. being way better than the well-known El Tiempo and Ninfa's. My boss was visiting from Europe and her favorite is Mexican, so I wanted to show her a Houston Tex-Mex favorite. On a Monday night, they were fairly busy with a couple of birthdays being celebrated. The restaurant layout is slightly confusing. The parking lot is a horseshoe around the restaurant building, and you enter in through the back side (away from I-10), then walk halfway through the building and between tables to get to the hostess stand that leads to the main dining area. We were a bit confused on this as first-timers but hopefully these instructions will help someone! Upon being seated, we were served complimentary chips and salsa. They only have red salsa and no green. The chips were hot and crispy, and tasted great dipped in the red salsa. For drinks, we ordered margaritas. They have multiple sizes - I got the pint (medium) Damn Goode Margarita. This was a good margarita, but had a lot of ice, so the margarita serving itself was much smaller compared to the cup. Probably my fault for ordering on the rocks instead of frozen. As an appetizer, we shared the regular chile con queso with no add-ons. It was served with a portion of fried flour tortilla chips, which paired well with the silky queso. The serving size was very generous. For my entree, I ordered the No. 2, which comes with your choice of taco al carbon (beef, chicken, or carnitas), a chicken enchilada, and a tamale. The portion was huge, and I struggled to finish it after downing a bunch of chips, salsa, and queso. I chose the beef for my taco al carbon, and it was filled with fajita meat, served with fajita fixins. The tamale was very tasty and I liked the taste of their masa. The enchilada was likewise very good. My main complaint here was that our server was overly attentive. This isn't a bad problem to have, but it became borderline annoying and we felt rushed. I was having a 1 on 1 dinner with my boss and we were deeply engaged in conversation, but our waitress constantly came by. At the start of the meal, we hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu and she came by twice ready to take our drink orders. Upon getting our margaritas, we wanted to enjoy them with our chips and salsa, but our waitress came by another couple times to ask if we were ready to order. Even if it wasn't her intention, the perception was that she was rushing us to order, eat, and GTFO. This was slightly embarrassing with my boss from Europe, where the custom is to sit and leisurely enjoy your meal with your company over 2+ hours. I'm glad I have now found another good option for Tex Mex in Houston. The well-known option in the city have grown their prices to become very steep, and the prices here were actually somewhat reasonable. The food quality was really good and I'd be down to try more. With my main issue here being with our server, I'm hoping this was specific to her and not the entire waitstaff. I'll definitely be back, either here or their other locations, to try more of their dishes. read more

I visited this location on a Wednesday evening. They were surprisingly busy! We had the Texas Redfish and the Mahi Mahi. Both were delicious, well cooked and well seasoned. I was told the seasonal vegetable was something different than what arrived at the table but it was still good. The environment was unexpectedly loud with the high ceilings and packed dining room so conversation was very difficult. All in all this was a great place to grab seafood in Houston metro but would skip it if you're looking for a quiet meal. read more

For all you Houstonians who remember The Mason Jar, it is now Goode Company Kitchen & Cantina. Not every restaurant can be a 5 star experience, but this one was very close. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, but I can't give a full 5. The space has been beautifully remodeled with lots of windows and a nice Mexican flare. There is a decent sized bar at the entrance with several tables lining the outer perimeter. The main dining area, separate from the bar, has table and booth seating options. The restaurant itself is not very big, but they do a good job with the space available. It is a shotgun style structure, so you can see the entire dining area from any table. First off, the service was fantastic! We were well taken care of and never had empty drinks, chips or salsa. Margaritas, chips and salsa are so important for a good Mexican restaurant. This is why I am only giving 4 stars. I wasn't "wowed" on these items. The "Damn Good Margarita" was more sweet tasting than tart and didn't seem to be very strong. They serve them in a regular pint style glass. I was surprised it wasn't in a Mexican style glass. The chips are thin and crispy with a light coating of salt. The red salsa is warm and smokey with a slight sweet undertone. It's not the best salsa I've ever had, but it was better after I added a little salt to the dip cup. GCK&C has verde salsa upon request. Not a fan of this salsa since I prefer the creamier green salsa, but others at the table enjoyed it. For my meal, I ordered the No. 2 plate. It comes with one Enchilada, one taco al carbon, one tamale, rice and beans. I was able to substitute the tamale for a crispy ground beef taco. I wanted a plain cheese enchilada, but I was served a chicken enchilada instead. I did not send it back because I think the confusion was on my part. I didn't communicate well at the start of my order. It was good, but it wasn't what I originally wanted. Again, not our servers fault. The crispy beef taco was in a delicious shell. It was the best crispy taco I have ever eaten. Many times, those type items get soggy, but this one stayed crispy and it was filled with a good amount of tasty toppings. The beef fajita taco al carbon was seasoned well and rolled in a flour tortilla. I only had one bite since I was full, so I get to enjoy leftovers for lunch today. The rice and beans were okay. My rice had some hard pieces in it and the beans didn't have much flavor. I don't typically eat more than one bite of beans, so it wasn't a huge deal personally. I was more disappointed in the rice. All in all, I would go back to GCK&C. I loved the atmosphere, the music they played, the service, the portions are large and the meal itself was good. We used to love going to Goode Co Kitchen and Cantina but not anymore. It is such a shame that the waitstaff will start sweeping up the restaurant over an hour before closing time. When we asked that they please stop sweeping right next to our table (we were eating!) the sweeper acted very put-out and surly. And she just kept on sweeping. The manager came over and he is really good for nothing. We have noticed this over several visits, but this time it was absolutely inexcusable. Most visits, we observe him sitting at a table on his computer and this visit it was more of the same. He came over to our table as we tried to explain WHY we do not want the staff sweeping a foot away from our table (why are we having to explain this obvious fact?) and he said he would "talk to them". I told him he was sitting right there on his computer and he saw them doing it (and clearly told them to). I do understand the need to clean up but when you have customers (the place was not empty) and you are next to my table using your phone flashlight to shine down on fallen food and who knows what else, and kicking up dust, that is just unsanitary. So, if you are OK with the waitstaff sweeping around you, clearly trying to run you off way before they close, then this is the place for you. read more

This was my first time coming here, and right away I knew I was gonna like it here. The salsa is red and it comes out warm, it was delicious! We added a large order of queso, that was what you expect from queso. Good but not great, but I didn't think they needed to come out with sharks teeth. (Fried flour tortilla cut into triangles) Let's get to the whole reason this place gets 5stars from me. The Carnitas platter, the fried pork cones out and looks like a fajita platter, but that pork was so tender and delicious! The menu states that the carnitas is marinated for 3 days and it is marinated to perfection! If you ever come here, you don't even have to look at the menu, just order the carnitas! My BF and I stopped at the new Yale location in the Heights for brunch and it did not disappoint. I ordered La Guisada and the pork was so soft and had such great flavor. My BF ordered Carnitas con Papas. I didn't taste his but he said he really loved it. I am a big fan of cafe de olla and was surprised when the waiter said they had it. The waiter was wonderful btw. GREAT service. The place was so cute and the music that was playing was great! It was a fun little brunch date for us and we would definitely hit this place up again. Ps. I loved the pork carnitas but lately the food is delivered lukewarm, lacking flavor and rushed. But I kept coming back because I thought, it's just an off night. The chicken enchiladas verde dish was dry and looked reheated in the microwave. (Plate warm but the inside cold). The food and service are not off... it's constant. Service is borderline fast food "can I retake your order" and the attention to details are off. I have an avocado allergy and let it know in my reservation as we as informed when I ordered. But yet- guacamole was served with the "sides". I asked for a replacement because I couldn't eat it with guacamole touching everything... I waited and waited, and received it after asking for it twice. To top it off, I was charged $4 for the addition side. I can understand and agree with a restaurant charging for "extras" but this was their mistake! The guacamole side was left untouched. To make matters worse, the bill was presented with the card reader in hand for me to pay immediately. They make you feel "awkward" to want to review the charges on the bill. Not sure if there was a change in management but it's just not the same "Goode" quality. Took my mom and sister here for Mother's Day because they love Mexican food and it did not disappoint. The chips and salsa were a great start. All of our entrees were delicious-they even let me substitute the tamale for a beef taco since I don't eat pork. My companions enjoyed their desserts-cheesecake and pecan pie. Definitely plan on returning. This place is popular so I recommend making a reservation to reduce your wait time!
