Absolutely delicious food and 5 star service. I had the chapulines and the cabrito. Highly recommend them. Their old fashioned was also very good. The pirámide and tres leches were delicious as well. One thing that I will critique is the portions are not big. Do not expect portions to be like those of most Mexican restaurants.

Incredible sunday brunch experience. Everything is delicious. Love the green salsa for chips, enchiladas and tamales. Best flan and tres leches my mexican hubby has ever tasted! Go here and dress cute and take someone you love!

For years I have heard about brunch at Hugo's, but have yet to sample it myself. So for our 2-year anniversary we decided to come out and knock it off our list. We put in a reservation for Sunday afternoon, and the place was hoppin'. The savory brunch buffet was quite to the affair with a really long bar. And they also had a second dessert buffet bar as well. They did an excellent job of replacing things that went fast. There was so much on this buffet that I didn't even get to try everything before I was full. That's a yay for their selection, and it's also a yay that I don't eat as much as I used to.#winning. We also had a cocktail each with brunch, but those weren't that. Good to be honest. She had a mezcal mango drink that just didn't hit well, and I had their special margarita. That was very tasty but not worth the excessive price when there were $10 options available. The service here was impeccable. Our wait staff came through each time we were up to snag our plates, and check on our water, and make sure we were taken care of throughout. They also put out a nice message about our anniversary on the table when we arrived, and provided us a dessert on the house specifically for our occasion as well. It was a very nice touch and goes that extra distance. Overall an excellent experience!

Hi, I love visiting this neighborhood corner piece as much as possible. I like going to the happy hour for the great deals and margaritas. This time I went and got the ceviche, taquitos, and a few tacos. Absolutely delicious with great service. The vibe in the restaurant is beautiful and impressive. Definitely a must in Montrose! Thanks, Bob B.

Booked a reservation for the Sunday brunch to celebrate Valentine's. I was interested to try their Mexican approach to brunch. The buffet had a nice variety of savory options including: mini quesabirria tacos, lamb roast, carnitas, chips and salsa, various vegetables and salad, enchiladas, tamales, ceviche, etc. My favorites were honestly the Brussels sprouts and the scalloped potato which doesn't really make me want to come back. The quesabirria tacos and poblano egg was nice too. My deal is, how do you mess up the Mexican rice?? It was wet and undercooked. If you can't get the rice right, you're cooked in my opinion. A lot of the food was room temp. The area where the food is served is a little cramped. The service was good. They had some live music going which was pleasant. Overall the experience was lackluster and I would not come back for the food. The vibe going on felt super casual, we paid $100 for 2 but it's not giving valet restaurant.

Hugo's concepts (H Town Restaurant Group) consistently outperforms. The vibe on a weekend night at Hugo's is fairly electric, acoustics do make a loud crowd louder. Service is always great and the food is always so flavorful. I've enjoyed the attention from the General Managers who know their wine list well and help with pairings.

Hugo's is a Houston staple that always hits the spot. We made a last-minute reservation for Houston Restaurant Weeks and were glad we did. They offer three HRW menus: seafood-focused, meat-focused, and vegetarian. Our table tried everything except the vegetarian, which is actually the one I went for, along with the optional cocktail pairing. At $33 for three thoughtfully crafted drinks, it is a steal. The Menú Nuestro Estilo was well-balanced and full of flavor. The squash blossom soup and quesadilla were delicate and comforting. The braised oxtail empanadas with cilantro aioli were rich and paired perfectly with the Paloma de Guayaba, which was bright and fruity with just the right tartness. For the main course, the grass-fed Black Angus skirt steak with poblano peppers, onions, arroz a la Mexicana, and refritos was tender and flavorful. Mine came out a little undercooked, but the wait staff was quick and receptive when I sent it back. I skipped the accompanying tortillas this time, but the fresh-made corn tortillas here are always a hit. It paired beautifully with the Un Día con Sandía, a smoky and refreshing mezcal and watermelon cocktail. Dessert was a decadent duo of milk and dark chocolate cake with pistachio and cherry compote, rounded out by the Carajillo Oaxaqueño, a coffee dessert cocktail with a mezcal twist. By the end, I was completely stuffed. The best part of Houston Restaurant Weeks is knowing your night out also supports the Houston Food Bank, and Hugo's makes it easy to enjoy a great meal while giving back. Service was warm and attentive, and the lively atmosphere made it feel like the perfect Houston night out. Hugo's has been delivering memorable meals for years, and Restaurant Weeks is just another reminder why it remains a go-to spot in the city.

5 stars as usual! My husband and I brought an out of town guest to Hugo's for lunch. He travels the world, and absolutely loved this place! (We knew he would) .... From the first class service, to the beautiful bright dining room Hugo's is so fabulous. Our friend ordered the Carne Brava, my husband had the Lechon, and I had the Tostados De Camarones. And of course the guacamole appetizer was divine. Sadly they started eating theirs before I could get a picture! This place is a must try if you've never been! Simply amazing.

Still one of the best ayce brunches in town! Live musics starting around 11:30. Place gets packed so make sure to get a resy!

I am overall impressed with Hugo's vegan options. The vegan enchiladas, Aguachile de Palmito and chips and guac (be sure to ask for vegan version) were all delicious! My only complain was my server wasn't very nice or attentive the 2nd time I came.

It's been a very long time since I've written a review. So I'll be starting with my Houston favorites. My late wife and I came here for 15 years at least. I still come, at least once a week and sit at the bar. What sets Hugo's apart is their service. Greeted with a smile and handshake/fist bump every time. They give you a "welcome home" feel, which is exactly what you want when you go out to dinner, esp solo. As for the food and drinks, it's always reliable. When I was younger, we'd opt for the Lechon and Taquitos. Now, I get the fresh fish of the day w/ cauliflower, habanero, and guac. If you are looking to be healthy, this is the place. You can say no oil and get a high protein, high fiber dinner no problem. My favorite spirit (by far) is Mezcal. I've been drinking this far before it became popular. Who made it mainstream? Bobby Flay did way back in the day. Think Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace back in 2012. Come for the consistent food and drinks, return for the service. Hats off all staff members from the bartenders, mgt., hostesses, and even valet. A true Houston staple. I post stories of what I eat on IG. Ish.in.Houston

    CHAMORRO DE PUERCO
    Haley M.

My friends and I made a dinner reservation at Hugo's for the 4th of July and overall had an amazing experience. I valeted due to the lack of street parking which is complimentary (at least when I went). My group was already seated so I joined them and our waiter came by to check in and ask if I was ready within 5 min of my arrival. I ended up splitting 2 dishes with my friend (the enchiladas of the day - chicken with a tomatillo sauce and the Chamorro de puerco) as well as a glass of prosecco. The food was 10/10, both dishes were delicious and so was the drink. It came out pretty quickly as well. Our server gave us great service and helped us split the check as well. Overall, this was a great first experience at Hugo's. The decor is really beautiful inside, bathrooms were clean and the lighting is dim which is great for a date night. I'd highly recommend others giving this place a try and my next visit will be for the Sunday Buffet that I have heard about!

These are extremely yummy food. I had it twice with my parents and with coworkers. Their margaritas are to die for. I ordered duck and it was pretty good. I just love trying out different types of ducks - each culture has its own unique way to make it taste so good

    Are they doing Sunday brunch?

    Yes, I think until 2pm.

    Is there a Happy hour?

    Yes, 3-6:30pm

    Any outdoor seating?

I do not believe so. I have been there a couple times and do not recall seeing anyone sitting outside, offered to sit outside, and seen any sitting furniture outside.

Have they resumed Sunday Brunch buffet?

    YES! Finally!

How much is the Sunday brunch?

They aren't doing it right now bc of COVID :( but their regular menu is AMAZING!!!!!!

Do they still do Sunday brunch buffet?

    No they don't

    Is there a dress code?

No- there is no jacket required but I would wear something nice since it is a nice restaurant.

How much per person is the brunch buffet?

    Think it's $35 per person

Is this a good place to celebrate my 18th birthday?

Yes, I think so. It's spacious and the plates are big enough to share.

Do they not have frozen margaritas? This seems odd for a Mexican place but I didn't see any in any of the pictures nor did I see any mention of them on the limited pics of the cocktail menu that I saw. Does anyone know if they have frozen margaritas?

If you are looking for crappy, sour mix laden, from a box mix, frozen margaritas you should probably go someplace like Ruchis. Hugo's has the most fabulous drink menu, certainly some of the most interesting margaritas I've ever seen and the wines by…

What is the best dinner item? Thinking abut coming here for a special occasion. Good choice?

the ribs. the carnitas and the carne brava are good too

Is this place like a buffet Friday night?

No, only time for buffet style dining is Sunday Brunch until 3pm. Make reservations if you're serious ;)

Do they serve ceviche with Sunday brunch? If they do, any different kinds? My wife loves ceviche and we would like to go but they have to have ceviche she says!!!

When I was there a few months ago, they did not have ceviche out as a buffet offering, but they were taking orders, paid for separately. If you are willing to pay separately, you can have the ceviche.

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. All of the drinks were very pretty and it seemed like everyone enjoyed them, too! We started with their chips and salsa trio, which we all really liked. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

While deciding whether our party should wait or go elsewhere, I went to the bar to order a drink. After ordering, the bartender told me that if I was only having a drink, I needed to move. Apparently, sitting at the bar required ordering a meal. At that point, we had experienced enough. Between the unpleasant valet experience, the indifferent response at the hostess stand, the two-hour wait, and then being told I couldn't sit at the bar simply to have a drink while we decided what to do, the overall message was clear: we did not feel welcome here. My wife, the rest of our party, and I decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. A busy restaurant is understandable. A long wait is understandable. What is much harder to understand is making prospective customers feel unwelcome at nearly every point of contact. Needless to say, this was an exceptionally disappointing experience, and we will not be returning.

What better way to kick off a Texas trip than getting some highly-regarded tex-mex! Some coworkers…read morerecommended this spot to me so I had to try! It's in the Museum District/Montrose area, so pretty accessible and with plenty of parking. We got seated immediately, and there was a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating, the latter of which was great even on a humid day. The menu was pretty extensive with your Tex-Mex classics like fajitas and enchiladas, with a special for every day of the week. This time was a free upgrade to a large fajita, so I went with the chicken fajitas! It came out after about 20 minutes with all of the fixings and this very yummy buttery sauce. I haven't had too many fajitas, but I'm pretty confident this is a top spot!

I saw the social media videos of them using real blocked cheese. It was good if you like white cheese queso. There was some tomatoes in there and you can add any meat. The chips were also good they weren't too greasy. Chicken/beef fajitas: This is such a classic dish! The onions on there were really good and had a slight smoky flavor. The beef was good as well and it was cooked to like a medium rare. The chicken was okay it lacked depth.
