There is Loteria nights and they announce this on their social media. All the staff are super friendly and attentive. If you need help anyone will help you. Restaurant is spacious indoor and also has a huge outdoor covered patio with fans and also an open patio. For their events I have been to Loteria nights and they give out prizes, it's fun while you grab a bite or a drink. They also have events where they bring in tequila brands and you can do free tastings of tequila! You meet the tequila brands ambassadors and learn about their brand. Visited Candente while in Houston. The atmosphere was lively and bustling, making it easy to see why this place is so popular. The service was good throughout the meal. We did have to ask for a bit of cleanup around our table from the previous guests, but considering how busy the restaurant was, it wasn't a major issue and was taken care of promptly. We made reservations for Father's Day and got seated right on time. They were even able to accommodate 4 more people at our table. Service was good especially with us being a big party. We were seated in the party room with several other large parties. I ordered the shrimp tacos. They were good and I actually finished them all, which is unusual. Chicken tortilla soup (3.5/5) - it was a bit salty for me but I am not a salt person so most things are salty to me; everyone else said it was tasty, there were tons of shredded chicken, avocado pieces, tortilla strips Fajitas - combo (4/5) - chicken was seasoned well and the beef (medium rare) was perfection and so tender and juicy, mexican rice was fluffy, and normally I would pass on the beans and get extra rice but my coworker suggested the charro beans and wow, that was a win - the seasoning was great, there were chunks of meat and the texture was nice, the only thing that could have been done better is the flour tortillas - they over-charred them making them too crispy and left them with a burnt taste. Mother's Day dinner with the family. We got right in no wait at all, but the area we were sitting in had so many flies we finally bagged up our food and left. It was overwhelming for the kids and we left early and some food on the table because the flies were landing on it. This was my first bad experience with this restaurant, we did complain to staff but they didn't seem bothered no other tables were fighting like that. Might choose inside next time if we chose to return. We did ask for the table fans but that didn't help the situation. Also parking is always horrible they have security but they only sit there on the phones. I'm a Tex-Mex hater so it means a lot when I say I thoroughly enjoyed this meal. We went on Tuesday where you can get a large fajita for the price of a medium. The skirt steak was extremely tender, smoky, and went well with the butter sauce; just a tiny bit more salt would have been perfect for me. The other one we got half beef half chicken - the chicken was surprisingly very juicy whilst being charred perfectly. A Cali girl-lala enjoying some Tex Mex. While in HTX I was able to meet up with a friend from college. He mentioned margaritas (not pictured) and food! So we met at Candente. Upon walking in the restaurant was clean it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but the aroma of the food! OMG! Our server was really nice and patient because my friend and I talked for about 30 minutes before we finally ordered our food. He has the beef enchiladas with rice and black beans. He cleaned his plate...literally not a grain of rice in sight! I had the smoked chicken verde enchiladas and WOW! What an amazing dish. I consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur especially being from California. I have always said Tex Mex?.....eeeeyuck! But Candente has changed my tune! I really enjoyed my experience here on Cinco de Mayo this year. It also was kind of surprising how well things worked out because I'm definitely used to Cinco de Mayo being a crazy day to try to go to a Mexican restaurant especially since they do not take reservations. I originally planned to just go there for drinks and go somewhere else to actually eat because they were doing tequila tastings. However while we were there, we were seeing the food that was coming out and smelling the aroma of the food they were serving and all three of us decided we were willing to wait and stay. So this was specifically for Cinco de Mayo, but they had as I said tequila tastings so they had different tables where they were giving out tequila. I thought it was very generous and a nice touch on Cinco De Mayo and the fact that it was free was great. So I decided to put us on the waitlist and they told us it would be about an hour or so, which would not have been ideal at all, but thankfully they were able to seat us very quickly compared to what they told us, which was amazing. The service was really good and I felt like our waitress was really friendly and attentive. Even in the midst of the craziness, she was still very available for us. The food was really good and I enjoyed the queso. My only complaint was that the queso was kind of cold. I probably should've asked for them to heat it up but it still tasted good. I got my entrée after and the portion was HUGE so I definitely had a lot of food to take home and I also really enjoyed it. One of the items on the entrée was a steak taco and the steak was so good. I feel like it was seasoned to perfection and I absolutely loved it. I also enjoyed the enchiladas as well. I got a kiwi margarita and it was really good too. I would say this is the second best Mexican food that I've had in Houston and I've been to several Mexican restaurants for tacos Tuesday. Candente is a Tex Mex restaurant located in the Montrose area of Houston. Candente is known for their margaritas, brisket queso and their fajitas. We visited Candente for dinner after happy hour ended on a Wednesday. Just an FYI that happy hour is Monday-Friday from 3-6 PM. Parking: there is a parking garage attached to Candente that has designated parking spots for diners. This parking is limited and there are signs that designate which spots are for Candente. There is also limited street parking around the restaurant. Ambiance: Candente has a bar, inside seating and an huge outdoor patio. We sat on the outdoor patio because there was a wait for an inside table. They were playing the Astros game at the bar TVs and they had a fun Loteria game going in the patio. This was a special event for that night. It was hot on the patio but that was just the natural Texas heat. The music inside was pretty loud when I went to use the restroom and I've seen that been a complaint from some diners on Yelp. Service: the service was fine. Being on the patio is tough because severs have a long way to travel to take care of the patio tables and inside tables. We had to ask for water refills a couple of times. The food came out in a timely matter so that was nice as we ordered appetizers and main entrees. Drinks: my brother got a mojito de coco which had rum, coconut, and lime. He enjoyed this mojito a lot and said it was refreshing in the heat. Food: the complementary chips and red and green salas were very good! We ate two baskets of these chips and asked for more salsa as well. We ordered two appetizers and three mains. Beef fajita quesadilla: the quesadilla was an appetizer for us and man this was good. The tortilla was crisped perfectly and the fajita beef was very tender. It came with a side of pico, sour cream and guacamole. It was $19 for 4 triangle pieces so a little pricey for a quesadilla. Smoked chicken flautas: this flauta appetizer came with 4 chicken flautas covered in avocado salsa, cream and queso fresco. The chicken in these flautas had great flavor! The chicken was moist and the shell on the flauta was thin and crispy. This was my favorite dish of the night! Carne Guisada: I ordered the carne guisada and it was delicious. It was stewed Mexican beef served with rice and beans and a side of three flour tortillas. The meat was tender and in a nice gravy sauce. It came with a side of cilantro, onions and tomatoes. The portion size was little lacking but it made up in flavor. Tacos birria de res: the birria tacos came with three tacos in one order. It came with a side of beef consume and rice and beans. The beef in the birria tacos was very tender and the consume had rich flavor. It was also a little pricey at $28 for the three tacos with rice and beans. Plato Epico: this combo plate came with a chicken taco, cheese enchilada, cheese chili relleno, and a crispy beef taco. This plate was your standard mixed Tex mex plate. It had all the staples on one plate. It also was only $25 so it was good value! Nothing stood out on this plate but it was an all around good Tex Mex plate. Overall, I'd say Candente brings the flavor on most of their food but at the price point of some items on their menu, it feels like I should have been more full. I subsidized the portions with their chips which is never an issue at Tex mex places. All of their beef dishes were good and their chicken flautas were the best dish of the night. We dropped in for lunch on Sunday, party of four. Love that they have an attached garage for parking, kept the car cool even though it was in the 90's outside. The restaurant was still packed at 2:30 PM. We were seated in the last booth towards the back of the restaurant. Next time, I would opt out of sitting there as it's next to the kitchen and it's really loud with dishes and glasses banging around. It didn't help that our server forgot to put in our appetizer order. We waited to order the entree to give a little time for the brisket queso to arrive but it never showed up. We reminded the server that we never received it after the fajitas arrived, so that we would not get charged for it. We ordered the ceviche trio and a large prime Niman ranch skirt steak fajita for shared entrees. The ceviche was OK, the green one was a little bland. The restaurant is so beautiful with a massive outdoor sitting area that is heated, has fans for cooling and a beautiful water feature. The service was wonderful the young man gave his favorite items yet we picked the Shrimp Chevice Trio and the #1 grill. Our total bill was about $100.00 and the amount of food was literally enough for 4 people. The server knew we were sharing and had the rice/beans and fajita fixings all in dishes for us both, such a great touch! The food was amazing and so well seasoned that we barely had to add hot sauce. Honestly I was looking forward to eating at Candente, especially after going through a lot tiktok post and instagram post. It seems like a great place to have a dinner with my friends and family, but unfortunately. I had a horrible experience. Called a couple days before to make a reservation, I was told over a certain amount I had to email the manager. I was fine with that. I sent the email of the reservation to what they provided me along information about the reservation. I even called the day before to CONFIRM. Person on the phone confirmed that everything was fine. I arrived the day of the reservation and found out that they never received my information and don't have my name in the reservation book. Spoke with the Manager Fredy , I even showed him the email and my call log. And asked what went wrong? I did everything on my part to make a reservation. He did not want to acknowledge it and simply said this " i just didn't do it" about confirming my reservation. How ? As a manager you take accountability of your job. I appreciated the waiter that heard the conversation and wanted to solve the situation, but unfortunately it was some tables outside. It was already pouring rain outside. Me and my party declined and decided to dine somewhere else. My dad is a Tex-Mex connoisseur so as soon as someone recommended this place to him, we all had to go! Navigating there was super easy! They have a small private parking garage next to the restaurant that's free, but spaces are a little small so if you have a large car, park on the street. The decor was colorful, the lighting was nice, and overall it felt very cozy and comfortable! I think the nachos were absolutely delicious but I did think the portion was too small. I definitely envisioned a pile of nachos, but we received a plate of 8 chips. Maybe that's my fault for being gluttonous but however, they were super cheesy and delicious. I would only get them on Mondays though. My birria tacos were also pretty good. The consome was a little too cinnamon-y, but the salsa that came with it was nice and spicy! I do wish there were more onions on my tacos, but the meat itself was tender and juicy. The service was honestly ok, definitely nothing to write home about. They were a little slow which is fine since it seemed super busy, but it did seem like our waitress kept forgetting about us and rarely checked in. We asked for our check, but she gave it to us 20 minutes after we asked for it. I also requested a container for my consome to take home and I waited 10 min an extra for it but never got it and then she took my plate away. I've been wanting to come here for a few years after hearing from a coworker raving how good it is. Even more so now they were mentioned by Michelin and do they deserve the mention. There's street parking and a parking garage right next to the restaurant. There's a very large covered patio and lots of outdoor seating, inside there's a mural in progress and they blast the A/C. The chips and salsa were on point. The creamy green sauce is tangy and tasty. The red salsa had a lil kick and tasted roasted. We got an order of brisket enchiladas and a medium beef fajitas. We received our food in about 15 minutes and it was good. The brisket enchiladas for me are a first, it's smokey tender and had a small drizzle of bbq sauce. It came with some queso and rice and refried beans. All delicious. The beef fajitas were so good. The beef was tender and cooked to a perfect medium. The homemade flour tortillas tasted so great with them. I also had a cup of their chicken tortilla soup - it's served with diced avocado, tortilla chips and the broth is so good, flavorful and delicious. I also enjoyed the cantaloupe agua frescas. I've been wanting to try this place for years & finally had the opportunity to take a friend out for her birthday on Saturday night and we decided on Candente, a Michelin star restaurant. The chicken combo dish and premium margarita were excellent. Our server was also outstanding. The chips and salsa were okay but would like to return and try again. The chips and creamy salsa were both a little too salty. The parking was a bit of a challenge but we found parking in garage from entrance on other side of the block & walked to ground from second level. No reservations were accepted, but upon entering they took my name and phone number & said they would call first then text when table was ready. They texted several times first and I didn't see it because I was waiting on a call as stated- since I was only a few feet away on outside patio, I walked in after just having missed a call and we got seated. Later I saw a text saying our table had been given up. What? I guess since I didn't see the text, almost or did lose an original table? How simple it would have been just to call out my name once or twice where guests were clearly waiting? Seemed a bit ridiculous and impersonal if you ask me. The atmosphere was a bit noisy and overstimulating since we were seated near kitchen in back, but we were able to hold a conversation with no issues. The queso is a white queso that has a great initial taste but lacks depth other quesos offer. Although they are supposedly known for their fajitas, I was expecting more. My son and I went to dinner there tonight, 12/26. They offered for us to sit inside or outside. We were fine with either option, so they seated us inside at a booth for two - directly across from the area where prepared food is placed. We were provided with chips, two salsas (one red and one green) and water right away. The salsas had a little more zing than most Mexican restaurants, and we loved that! The chips were fresh; he and I ate the whole basket and then some. We ordered chili con queso and both had black bean enchiladas. I also had a small house margarita. The cheese dip and chips were yummy- high recommend it. It was far superior to the orange velveeta style queso available at most of the local Mexican restaurants. The enchiladas were also very good. I'm not convinced that the beans were vegetarian, however. So, I have mixed feelings on that one. No mixed feelings on the margarita though; it was delicious! The restaurant was clean and nice. The service was prompt and friendly. Let's be real though - the parking is terrible. I know it's Montrose. I live in Montrose, but a narrow parking garage with a single entrance/exit is pretty bad. I hated their parking garage, and there was security officer who was minimally attentive and a car with an obnoxious flashing light on top. Turn that off. I ended up parking down the street in a flooded area. If you have a very small, narrow car and tremendously good luck, you might find a parking place there. First time here and it was more than I expected. Margaritas were excellent. Apps were tasty, yet a little small. However, main dishes were regular portions. Flavors were amazing. Everything was properly seasoned and spice heat level was noticeable, including on charro beans and birria tacos. The Tuesdays fajita special was a very good deal. There was plenty of great tasting fajitas and all the fixings. But my favorite was carne guisada. In my opinion, the best carne guisada in Houston. The food is actually very flavorful, the drinks hit the spot, and the atmosphere is electric All the seating areas look trendy and inviting. The menu offers a variety of options for both small plates and entrees. And staff was attentive, and the service speedy This is a spot for a date night, happy hour, or just a get together with friends or family Some tips: You can find parking in the garage behind the restaurant, but it can fill up and get quite cramped. Also, there's street parking, but you might have to do a bit of walking. You must try the brisket nachos, they're incredible. Came here for lunch with a large group. We had a reservation and were seated upon arrival. The food was great! I got the Tuesday fajita special which is a large for the price of a medium. Service was great despite us being a fairly large group (10 people). I'll be back! read more
