Hidden Gem with Great Chicken, Friendly Service, and Delicious Desserts I was looking for some local Mediterranean food and decided on Goodies Mediterranean. At first, I had second thoughts--the parking lot was empty, and the exterior didn't look too inviting. But I'm glad I stuck with my decision! I ordered the Chawirma Chicken entrée and cashew baklava for dessert. While waiting, I had a great conversation with the owner, which made me feel more comfortable about my choice. He even threw in a free appetizer when I mentioned I was taking my food to go--such a nice gesture. The main course was excellent, especially the chicken. However, the pita and salad were a bit below average. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would go back to try something else on the menu. The dessert was a standout! read more

Saw the yelp reviews and decided to give it a try! I am a huge fan of Mediterranean food and decided to go with a chicken gyro (image below). My dad ordered the lamb kabob special. There was a good amount of chicken in the gyro and it was well seasoned. The lamb kabob special came with kabobs, rice, salad and pita bread. The kabobs were well cooked and everything tasted really good. The owner was really sweet and came by to check up on us often. Highly recommend this place for your Mediterranean cravings! read more

Goodies Mediterranean Grill in Eastwood adopted both the name and the slogan of a supermarket in Beirut: When it's that good, it's gotta be Goodies. A longtime staple at the regional market, Goodies serves lunch and dinner in a small brick storefront on James Street. In a bid to win customers whose tastes might not run to Mediterranean, the menu includes a number of Italian dishes such as lasagna and chicken parmesan. There are also a few deli sandwiches available. Craving Mediterranean, but not wanting to pay $30 for a platter simply for myself, I went to Yelp looking for a place that served dishes for one. I came across Goodies and they had good reviews, decent pricing, and some tasty sounding offerings. So I placed an order online of their chicken kabob entree, with grilled chicken, vegetables, rice and a side of tabouli. I was told there'd be a 15 minute wait. I arrived 25 minutes later and headed inside. Goodies offers both Coke and Pepsi products but does not serve alcohol. It has four booths and a few larger tables, along with a counter that has five padded stools. The tables are covered with store bought placemats, while crooked pictures hang on the walls. The inside is as divey looking as the outside. I was told my food was not yet ready, even though I was 10 minutes past my pickup time, and it'd be 5 minutes. I took a seat and waited. There was one other customer inside, also picking up to go food, also waiting a long wait. The woman at the counter, who I'm assuming is an owner, frantically went between arguing with the kitchen and complaining to the other waiting customer about how busy they were and how slow the kitchen was. Eventually, that customer was given her food and headed out. The woman at the counter then proceeded to tell ME about how slammed they were all day. She apologized for my wait, but told me at least 3 times that it would only be 5 more minutes for my food. Eventually, my food did make it out, and all in all took close to 50 minutes from ordering time to actually make. Also made me 20 minutes late back to work from my break. When I finally got to eat it, I was unfortunately underwhelmed by the food. While I hoped the wait would at least be worth it, I was unimpressed. While the tabouli was very good, with a citrusy, vinegary flavor to it, the rest of my food was underseasoned and the chicken was very dry. The portion was large though, enough for 2 meals. From the time to make the food, to the negative environment I felt in the restaurant, making me late to work, and the underwhelming food, it was just an all around disappointing experience. I will never place a delivery order with this company again. One order came an hour late. The salad was soggy and the falafels were cold and dry. Tonight the order never arrived. They have made the mistake of pairing with Eat Street whose delivery drivers are consistently incompetent. When I informed Goodies that my order never arrived, they immediately referred me to this delivery company. To me it seemed that Goodies just slufffed me off onto Eat Street. My advice to you is to NOT place a delivery order with Goodies. Now I'm out $38.00. read more

So yummy!! From the outside, Goodies seems like a hole in the wall restaurant. It's not exactly the prettiest on the inside either, but it definitely has charm. The owner was so friendly and welcoming! She brought out our food really fast. I thought it was a little pricey at first, but you get SO. MUCH. FOOD. I was filled and satisfied!! What a great find in East Syracuse. My husband and I were driving though town on our way out to west NY, and came across this simple place. What a salvation to be able get quality take out food, served with a smile, as opposed to the take out we assumed we be relegated to eating. My husband and I both had the spinach lentil soup, which was fab. My husband had the beef/lamb gyro. Very authentic. I had the labneh with pita. The labneh texture was perfect and the taste was great, too. Pita bread was fresh and warm. The owner (from Lebanon) politely bragged about how all of their soups, sauces, etc were made fresh everyday. The homemade touch made all the difference in the taste and quality - he has every right to be proud of the tasty dishes that come out of that kitchen. I find it hard to believe that I am the first to add this business to Yelp and write a review, but am honored to write about my experience in the hopes that you can share in the joy of this wonderful little place. read more

We had the falafel, hummus and stuffed grape leaves which were all very good, and taboule was the best I've had - I don't say that lightly. They have the thin Lebanese style pita which I like and goes great with it. We had the walnut baklava for desert and it was also excellent. We were very sad to see that Michael Angelo's had closed but we are very excited to have Goodies Mediterranean come to Eastwood! My husband suggested Goodies tonight and not being one to turn down Mediterranean, of course we went! We ordered the Mazza platter for two with chicken - much to our surprise, we both got a big plate of mazzas including tabbouleh, falafel, babaganoush and grape leaves. Once we were stuffed with our appetizers, the chicken with sauteed veggies and rice showed up! Needless to say, we have big box of leftovers for tomorrow. The cost - $24 - total! For shear quantity alone they would get 3 stars and they get a fourth for quality! Along with a selection of Lebenese fare, they have some Italian choices, sandwiches and a burger special for those who don't like Middle Eastern food. We'll be back! read more

Brought here on a LivingSocial, with low expectations as we were passing through Syracuse. Couldn't have been happier with stumbling across Goodies. The food was definitely the best I have ever had in Syracuse and area, and also some of the best Mediterranean food that I have ever had. Which is a statement given the fact that I have traveled to the Mediterranean! This is the type of restaurant that you only wish had the fortune of being open in a major city (think NYC) where you just know that it would explode in popularity because of all the in-the-know hipsters who would be banging down the door to scarf down the food. If you live within a 2 hour radius of Syracuse, there is no good reason for you not to go to Goodies at least once a week. read more

Delicious! Don't be fooled by the outside. Yeah it's a small restaurant hidden off the road but the food was amazing. The staff is friendly and very inviting. Got the chicken kabobs and finished off with a piece of baklava. The kabobs had great taste and the rice complemented it well, but what made the dish over the top was the tabouli. I'm glad my first time trying tabouli was at Goodies becaue it was amazing. Great place for lunch or dinner. Don't be afraid to visit! Very friendly owners and tasty food. We've been wanting to try this place for awhile now, ever since we met the owner at a farmer's market and he invited us out with a 10% discount offer. We ended up going on a night that was unbearably cold so the worst part of our experience was being freezing while eating our dinner, but the quality was so good we did not care. It was a fairly small establishment with about 7 tables but that did not deter us. I found it a little bizarre that they serve Greek, Lebanese, Italian and American cuisine, but if it is good who cares. We were seated immediately by a very friendly woman. I decided to be different and tried a Greek soda. It was actually quite good and I liked that it was unique and something I never had before. It tasted like licorice, but not too strong of a flavor, with a nice sweetness to accompany. I'm glad I tried it. When it came to ordering food, we stuck to the Greek side of things and began our order with spanakopita and their mazza appetizer platter. We were served the spanakopita first which had a yummy rich flavor. Although, I prefer it when the phyllo dough is crispy, but this was not the case here. It was still very good. I loved their tzatziki sauce that was served with it; you could really taste the lemon and garlic working with the freshness of the cucumber. I also think it added to the taste of the spanakopita, even though it still had good flavor alone. For the mazza you get a choice of 4 select appetizers off a specific list. I was hoping the labeh would be included but, unfortunately, it was not. We ended up settling on the hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, and tabouli salad. I wasn't crazy about the salad, too much parsley, but my mom loved it. My mom and I are not a fan of falafel so we are not the appropriate people to judge it, but we weren't a fan of that either. The hummus and baba ghanoush on the other hand were delicious, once we were served our pita bread. We had to wait for some time for the pita bread because she brought our mazza dish along with our main dish and told us she would be back with the pita. I didn't really like that our appetizer was brought along with our gyros, but oh well. We began by eating the falafel and tabouli salad as we waited for our pita but 5 minutes later it hadn't arrived... I ended up going and asking her for our pita and she quickly ran back into the kitchen saying she forgot. When we were finally able to eat the hummus and baba ghanoush we were content. The hummus was a perfect blend of the tahini, chickpeas, garlic and lemon while the baba ghanoush had the delicious roasted eggplant flavor a Greek food lover hopes for. The pita they served was a little on the dry side and very thin but the dips were so tasty we didn't care. I would come back for just these two dishes alone. We ate our, slightly cold, gyros finally and were very pleased. I would have been happier with more meat but it was still satisfying. This pita bread was soft and doughy to support the 3 shaved lamb/beef patties, lettuce, onion, tomato and tzatziki sauce. There was plenty of sauce and the size of the sandwich alone was great for the price. Maybe that's why there was a lack of meat... For dessert we took walnut baklava home for later since we were so full. They also had the choice of pistachio baklava which sounded unique, but we were in the mood for the traditional. We received 4 decent sized pieces for $6 and they were well worth it. The layered phyllo dough was crispy and sweet and combined with the walnuts it was so decadent. I could eat 4 pieces alone for dessert. I would go out of my way to come back for these. Overall, it wasn't a perfect night, but my mom and I went into the restaurant looking for good Greek food and we left satisfied. The prices are pretty decent: a lamb/beef gyro for $6, sampler for $8 and $5 appetizers. I would recommend the food here, but I would most likely come back to this place for takeout over siting in. Although, it did look like they had some good meat and rice dish options. Also, from what another customer ordered, even the burger looked good, but I wouldn't come here for chicken parmesan or a buger. read more

The wait was insanely long, given the fact that there were only three tables full of people when I arrived; the gyro was unacceptably skinny (comparable to one and a half slices of steak-umm meat); and the falafel were just ok... I understand that waiting happens from time to time, and, ok, the falafel were more bread-crummy than I care for, but the gyro was terrible. If a Mediterranean place can't make a decent gyro, then I'm not sure where it goes from there. read more

We used a $30 Groupon for this restaurant, and for the deal and food? Meh, it's okay. Although it was my mistake for not reading the fine print, they require you to wait 24 hours before using it. They also require you to order two drinks as well. Food portions were filling, but a little bland. Service was extremely mediocre. Although the waitress was very polite, we weren't given water, and there was a bit of a wait. In fact, they told us that their foundation was down, and gave us water bottles instead. When we received our check in the end, they charged us for the water bottle! Why should we be charged for something that should be free by law (They serve alcohol)? And something that we have no control over nor were we informed that the water was going to be extra. Wish they were more informative. It's frustrating because we rather use the money for tips instead of water. read more

While I grew up in Syracuse, I no longer live here. I found Goodies on Yelp, so I thought I would give it a try. At home, I often eat a Greek chicken salad, so I thought this might be a good bet. Very much a mixed experience. I came for lunch, and the place was empty. After looking at the menu, I decided to order a ver un-Greek dish, fried haddock. I can't get that on the west case. I also ordered a side salad. The fish was excellent. A very light breading, and almost perfectly cooked (dry in a couple of spots). It was served with a large hoagy roll that had some butter-like coating on it. One bite, and I realized it must have been microwaved- it has that horrible chewy texture that microwaved bread gets. More importantly, the side salad was terrible. Iceberg lettuce only, and almost entirely white in color. A few chunks of pink tomatoes, a slice of onion, and that was it. It was served in large chunks that needed to be cut, but in a bowl that is rather pointed on the bottom. My first attempt to cut the lettuce resulted in me spilling half the salad on the table. The venue itself is neat, tidy and clean. The service was good. While they asked me how everything was, I didn't want to be insulting by launching into a discourse on the merits of salads containing green vegetables, and how many wonderful lettuces there are besides iceberg. And the haddock WAS very good. Since I didn't order a true Greek dish, I can't speak for whether those might have been better prepared.
