While I grew up in Syracuse, I no longer live here. I found Goodies on Yelp, so I thought I would give it a try. At home, I often eat a Greek chicken salad, so I thought this might be a good bet. Very much a mixed experience. I came for lunch, and the place was empty. After looking at the menu, I decided to order a ver un-Greek dish, fried haddock. I can't get that on the west case. I also ordered a side salad. The fish was excellent. A very light breading, and almost perfectly cooked (dry in a couple of spots). It was served with a large hoagy roll that had some butter-like coating on it. One bite, and I realized it must have been microwaved- it has that horrible chewy texture that microwaved bread gets. More importantly, the side salad was terrible. Iceberg lettuce only, and almost entirely white in color. A few chunks of pink tomatoes, a slice of onion, and that was it. It was served in large chunks that needed to be cut, but in a bowl that is rather pointed on the bottom. My first attempt to cut the lettuce resulted in me spilling half the salad on the table. The venue itself is neat, tidy and clean. The service was good. While they asked me how everything was, I didn't want to be insulting by launching into a discourse on the merits of salads containing green vegetables, and how many wonderful lettuces there are besides iceberg. And the haddock WAS very good. Since I didn't order a true Greek dish, I can't speak for whether those might have been better prepared. Despite the good haddock, I probably would not be inclined to try this place again. read more

We used a $30 Groupon for this restaurant, and for the deal and food? Meh, it's okay. Although it was my mistake for not reading the fine print, they require you to wait 24 hours before using it. They also require you to order two drinks as well. Food portions were filling, but a little bland. Service was extremely mediocre. Although the waitress was very polite, we weren't given water, and there was a bit of a wait. In fact, they told us that their foundation was down, and gave us water bottles instead. When we received our check in the end, they charged us for the water bottle! Why should we be charged for something that should be free by law (They serve alcohol)? And something that we have no control over nor were we informed that the water was going to be extra. Wish they were more informative. It's frustrating because we rather use the money for tips instead of water. read more

I never thought I would like mediterranean food, but when i went into goodies , i fell in love. I go at least once a week for gyros and hummus! and now that they have a deal for 2 gyros for $10 every tuesday is just perfect for my husband and the customer service is exquisite. read more

I was too hungry to go veggie but will try the mixed mezze platter next time. Food is amazing. customer service is great! Was leary about the outside but definitely worth the dining in!!! We had the chicken parm and the sauce is the best I have had in forever! Gyro with lamb and beef was fresh and so tasty and filling! Fries are cut and fresh....and seasoned!!!! This is a must come back to. Atmosphere is peaceful and good to dine in. read more

Went over for dinner, it was around 8:15.. Was the last walk in customer, looked like.. However, people were calling in for takeaways.. Owners were the ones interacting with customers, the lady got me seated and took my order.. She did make an effort to make me feel welcome and exchanged pleasantries.. I ordered Chicken Gyro, it was delicious.. The Greek salad had liberal use of cheese as well.. At the end of the meal, there was a honest attempt made by the gentleman to make me try their house desserts but I had to politely refuse.. It was mediocre at best. I like supporting local food, but the food felt like it was from a microwave. The gyro was 80% lettuce, two tomatoes, and three slices of "lamb and beef" that were pre packaged deli meat. The meat felt like it was heated up in a microwave. All topped w some yogurt sauce. The sauce was the only redeeming quality. The pita was equal to that from a package at a grocery store, not home made. The side salad was a huge portion of iceberg, a few thin tomatoes, four olives and feta. All that for $13. My wife got the chicken gyro. Chicken was house made at least, but very fatty ad chewy. The taboulet was good and I could tell it was homemade. Very strong lemon flavor. I have to add, service was good and the owner and crew were very kind and welcoming. At some point, someone came in w a platter of spinach rolls and gave some to my kids to try, which was very kind! The kindness made up for the OK food. Overall, I expected the kind of hole in the wall home made attention to the food which this place is not. I think the prices do not reflect the food quality. On this visit I was ready for some great Med delight and found Goodies, and I almost can't wait to come back to Syracuse next time to go back. I went on a Friday for lunch. the food was fantastic. I would say there are a few minor things that would make all the difference. My boyfriend and I split the beef and lamb gyro and also the beef kabobs. Beef and lamb gyro was delicious over all, but it is made with a deli style meat. The sauce on it however was amazing, but on the more bland side. Once I added some feta cheese from my salad it was Perfect!!!! The beef kabobs is served with rice and a tomato and greens side dish. Side dish was awesome!!! No change necessary there. Beef from the kabobs was slightly tough but nothing worth complaining about. Added salt to taste and was outstanding. I will definitely frequent this place in the future. This place could make a fortune with a better location and a more modern feel. I would love to see it with a sleek modern café look. Excellent lunch! We found this place by accident and decided to give it a try. Everything is made fresh in house and tastes like it. I had a sampler platter with falafel, babaghanoush, Greek salad, and their olives with feta. The babaghanoush was the best I've had as was the falafel. I ordered online for takeout for dinner and the system told me 15 minutes for pick up. I arrived right around the 15 minute mark and the food was already waiting for me--ensuring a smooth transaction. I got the pick four platter with hummus, tzatzki, babaganoush and falafel (I will never know how to spell these dishes) and the stuffed Zaftar bread (another reviewer mentioned this as a good vegetarian option which suited my craving for the evening). Everything was decent, tasted pretty fresh, but the only real standout to me was the falafel. They have more of a biscuit/disc type shape rather than a ball and they somehow created a version that seems healthier than others? This could very well be my imagination, but that's the impression it gave me. If I'm staying nearby and I'm looking to not travel far for a meal, I'd give the place another order and probably mix it up, but I can't see myself going out of my way to get back based on the dishes I had today. read more

I've ordered twice through GrubHub for an ill friend in the area, and several times directly with Goodies for deliveries to our office, mostly the chicken kabobs/rice, humus and pita, salads, spanakopita and baklava. Everyone loves the food, but what really stands out is the owner's care and concern when those take out orders are placed. He's a nice man, made sure everything was correct, called me on the phone to clarify, and ALWAYS provides excellent customer care. My friend actually thanked me for ordering from Goodies for him, because the owner's kindness extends through his delivery people as well. So good. We met the owners at the Syracuse farmer's market and bought hummus and taboule. It was so fresh and loaded with flavor. The owner gave us menus for his restaurant and invited us to come for dinner. He even told us to bring our own wine. A few months ago we went for the first time. The falafel, taziki, lentil soup, and mazza plate were exceptional. Tonight we brought my brother in law from Brooklyn, my mother in law, and her boyfriend. My mother in law never finishes her plate but tonight she finished every last bite. There wasn't one bad meal, we finished with turkish coffee and date cookies just out of the oven. Best Mediterranean food in town! This is a cute little restaurant with a very friendly owner and staff. I did not have my hopes high when I went the first time, but the food just blew me away. I've been a regular since. My favorites are the gyro and the falafel. Trust me, the falafel here is like no other. And their Baklava is out of the world. On top of that it's very affordable. Baklava is not fresh and NOT home made coz I saw while they put them in small boxes from the tray. it's from bastry which name is Shatilla ,so it's easy to order it online and cheap too. Half prop'ed up the few slices of meat and the other half prop'ed up a small handful of spring mix. It included a delicious tray of chicken kabob over rice (my favorite), a very abundant and tasty Greek salad, falafel with all the toppings, pita bread and hummus. Everything arrived hot and fresh, on time, and the price was very reasonable. We will definitely be ordering from them again. Food is amazing, everything is made from scratch, chicken Marsala had to be some of the best I have ever had. Very warm and friendly atmosphere, with a variety of very legit Mediterranean cuisine options and a full desert menu of hand crafted deliciousness... Meh, I should have read the other Yelper's reviews of the Gyro. If you like I are used to a pita loaded with fresh meat cut from a skewer, this is not the place. The pita was cold, filled with lettuce, and three slim pieces of what seemed to be processed lamb/beef meat. On the upside the sauce was fairly tasty and after eating essentially a pita lettuce wrap I definitely consumed far less calories than I intended. read more
