I had Ricardo cut my hair. He was so friendly and spent so much time making sure everything was perfect. The haircut was not rushed in any way and was by far the best one I've gotten. It was my first time here and Ricardo went above and beyond. Goodland Barber Shop was my go-to spot when I lived out in Goleta. It's very easy to miss as there is virtually no street frontage - it's on the side of a building. That said, the signage out front is pretty decent and you'll certainly see the sign itself from the road. I sort of enjoy its hidden location as it allows for the shop to attract local clientele over tourist types. This place takes walk-ins but keep in mind that there will be a wait. In all the times I've come here, there have maybe only been one or two instances where I was seated immediately. The barbers are all friendly and I feel they've done a good job in listening to my wants. The shop itself isn't much when it comes to decor (harsh fluorescent lighting, paint peeling from the walls), but folks don't come to a true barber shop for the ambience so I digress. I'd recommend this spot but make sure to come during an off-hour when the line isn't as long. read more

Recently tried this place and will now be my go-to for a haircut! I walked in on a weekday afternoon and had only about a 10min wait. It's not fancy - small and dark, with 3 or 4 chairs. I wasn't in the mood to talk, necessarily, but ended up getting my hair cut by Rick and had a great conversation! Rick was quick, efficient, but did an excellent job. I get 2-1 buzzcut, which sounds simple, but everything needs to be very short and even all around, without stray hairs, nicks or missing ears. This place is great, really easy going staff and a place you won't ever mind waiting an occasional 30 minutes. The barbershop has plenty of chairs and two plasma TVs to keep you entertained. Another great thing about this place is that all of the barbers are dope! They can all get down with fades and tapers. If you live in IV, Ellwood, or Goleta area this is the place to go!! And for all my fellow college students check out those Campus Specials Coupon Books that look like a stack of $100 bills. There is a coupon for a $10 haircut in them. Normal price is $15.00 + Tip. The haircut was subpar but the service I received was even worse. First the barber was so focused on his Netflix show he didn't even address me as I sat in the chair. He just asked what I wanted and started cutting. I don't mean to sound like I expect a grand welcome but a simple hello would be nice. Then during the haircut he would turn my chair so he would still be able to watch the tv show. Me the paying customer was starting at a wall for most of the cut while the barber who is supposed to be cutting my hair is watching his show. Then he would slightly turn my neck while he cut my hair and I brought it up to him about how it is hurting my neck having it turned back while he was cutting. And his response was "that's how I cut everyone's hair". Then he had an sour attitude the rest of the way. Diego is the MAN! All the guys are great at what they do and it's a cool place to chill. Honestly, a barbershop to a guy is what a spa is to a girl haha. A place to hang out and get pampered up while having cool conversation or just hearing the conversation around you. It's boys time for sure haha. Many years later and in the midst of a pandemic this place is still the best in Goleta IMHO. I understand the challenges we're all dealing with but of all the other barbershops around this area Goodland Barber Shop is still the best. I tried closer ones along Hollister and in the strip malls but the staff always seemed to have a chip on their shoulders. In some cases they were downright rude when you walked in the door. I drove out to Goodland and it's still the awesome place I remember. It is definitely worth the extra 10 minutes to drive there as far as I'm concerned. This has been my favorite barbershop for a while now but recently I started looking elsewhere because there is an interesting atmosphere that happens inside.The first time I came to this shop I described i as a "head massage" because it was very relaxing. I love the haircuts, all of the barbers are pretty skillful. Are they the most talkative? No, and that is ok I usually just want to relax while getting a haircut. Their prices have escalated but that has to do with how popular they are. Here are the negatives. There have been multiple occasions when I have been there and they start playing "fight" videos from World Star Hip Hop. These are very uncomfortable and what does it say about the barbers? Also expect a wait time of at least 30 minutes unless you get lucky. Once I showed up at 8:50 AM and there were already 3 people ahead of me 10 minutes before they even opened! Otherwise I do enjoy a haircut from this place. read more

This place is hell on Earth. I just sat in this barber shop for over two hours, and I couldn't get a haircut because all these friends of the barbers were cutting. Sure, they have reservations written on the chalkboard, but waves of people who knew the barbers were served before the guys who were sitting patiently in the chairs. These guys were even drinking tall boys of beers, which demonstrates how professional this environment was. I was a bit hesitant to get my haircut at a real barbershop-- and by real, I mean manly. My hesitation melted away once I learned of the incredible value! 15 bucks for a cut was the reason why I went through the doors. It was everything I thought it would be. Dudes were talking trash about sports, celebrities, and current events. It was neat! People dropped F-bombs left and right and I even got in on the action. They even put the latest MMA fight (which was entirely a new thing for me) on and were providing powerful commentary. I felt like part of the boys club. Unfortunately it all ended on a weird note for me and I probably won't be going back. Beyoncé was on the television, so naturally I gasped and proclaimed my adoration for her. It was silent. The atmosphere here is so abrasive and unwelcoming for anyone who is different that the cheap price on a mediocre Latino boy's haircut style is practically not worth it. Not only was this testosterone haven serving beer to its clients on the job, but I'm pretty sure some of the recipients were not over 21. And there were so many people here that people lost track of who was after who, as if everyone in this place would lose their penis if God forbid they organize at all and actually give a damn. There are many Flatscreens set up for entertainment for those days when they are really busy. For $15 plus tip you really can't beat it, Diego is great, even to the point that I don't have to go over the haircut I want anymore. To finish it off he even gives a warm straight razor finish. As far as haircuts go for UCSB students living in IV like myself, the pickings are slim -- Campus Cuts' reputation is shady at best, and salons aren't exactly the first choice of guys around the IV area. Enter Goodland Barber Shop. Though it's a little bit of a journey for a student without a car, a quick bus ride and a short walk takes you to a legitimate barber shop. The guys here are chill as hell -- always watching something cool on their big flat screen, having conversations spanning everything from sports to the latest music, and everything in between. It's a comfortable environment to just hang out, and definitely get a haircut. But a great barber shop experience is nothing without a fresh cut, and these guys deliver. All you have to do is tell them what you want, and they'll nail it. Fauxhawk? They killed it. Combover to a fade? Mine was clean beyond belief. They even finish off every cut with a hot cream shave of the nape of your neck, complete with the cool aftershave. Tl;dr. this place is an awesome place to get a haircut, complete with an awesome barbershop environment and great quality service. The only thing I'd ever have to complain about is the wait can get a little long sometimes, but I personally don't mind because the environment is cool enough to just sit and enjoy whatever they're watching and chill as you wait for you turn. read more

I have been coming to This barbershop since it opened and I have never had a complaint. Yes, there is a long wait, but I take that as a good sign, as that means people like going there. My to go to barber is Michael (the guy closest to the bathroom). He is professional, friendly, and he knows what he is doing. I have also gotten a haircut from the guy next to him and I a few from Diego. I was pleased with their work. I recommend this barbershop, but do expect to wait. I entered the barber shop with my son at 3:15 on 10/19... He was barely seated at 5. I asked them y it was taking so long and they said their r people in front of him I said ok.....then I started seeing people coming in a sitting in the chairs in front of people tht were already waiting I asked one of the barbers that r really unprofessional with their language and attitude asked y r they going first. They told me they had an appointment. Well the funny thing is that I have called in the past and ask for an appointment. They specifically told me this shop is at a first come first serve type of shop....they r unprofessional and just plain idiots.....they took about 8 min. In need of an urgent beard shave I found this place with the help of my GPS. Now, writing a Yelp review for a barber shop is quite new to me but I have to share my experience. So at the place I just showed up with no appointment (got turned away on several other places in other cities) and got asked to have a seat and wait. 4 guys were busy with customers and another guy was already waiting when I joined him. The atmosphere of the shop is very relaxed. You could watch sports on TV have a cool drink from the fridge and listen to the anectodes (warning: very foul language) of the barbers. But that type of talk, besides the service of course, is what I liked at the place...made me chuckle couple times when hearing the dirty talk. So quickly it was my turn to have a seat and I told the barber that I wanted my beard shaved completely off with the razor. Not a very easy task since my beard grows like brillo pads and I had my last shave 2 weeks ago. But the guy who took care of it was a pro. I think his name was Rick?! Anyways before the shave he wrapped my face with a warm towel to soften my beard and he repeated this several times during the shave. He was extremely careful on sensitive parts and made sure that every bit of beard was shaved off. After finishing I got some sort of aftershave on my skin which stung a bit and he powdered afterwards almost all my face I have very sensitive skin and I even manage to cut myself when using a mach3 blade and he was shaving with a single razor. One of the other barbers cracked a joke saying that he would not trust someone handling a razor on his throat. I expected a pretty bloody face with extreme rashes (happened to me at a barber shop in Hongkong) but when he handed me that mirror I was amazed to see that babyface hiding behind the beard again and with not even a single tiny bit of blood or excessive rash. They always have the TV on, and usually are watching it while working. The haircuts are fine, but I've had some really bad experiences there. The last time I was there, there was a kid crying the entire time, while they were watching a very vulgar adult comedy show. I get that it's an adult barber shop, but it just felt really awkward the entire time, so I think I am done going there. read more
