Hands-down the best barbershop in Santa Barbara Montecito! I've been coming to Richie's to get my haircut for almost 2 years now. I jumped back and forth for about six years from Barber to Barber all over Santa Barbara and finally found the place I consider home. Erin Is my go too, she has amazing attention to detail and is always accommodating. All staff is knowledgeable, clean cut, out going and professional. They offer you coffee or water and have a very nice establishment. I believe they just opened a new place in isla vista as well. My review is not specific to Kenzie who cut my hair. The review is towards the false pricing on their website. Says $35 for a men's haircut, and it's actually $65 on site. I was already in the chair, and my glasses were off so I didn't see the pricing until I was done. However, this is blatantly negligent, and the owner on site doesn't seem to care that his website says a MUCH cheaper price. Richie's barber shop is the best ! I've taken both my nephews and he'a always friendly and does a great job! He made sure to turn on cartoons for the boys . And took his time with them and even gave them the vibrating shoulder massage he gives to his adult clients! It's a good looking barbershop and has a good aesthetic. read more

This happened awhile back but, still bothers me to this day so, I feel the rare need to express my experience: I made an appointment a week+ ahead of time and had it confirmed. When I arrived for said appointment, the doors were locked and Richie and a couple others were hanging out. I knocked on the door and they just stared at me through the window (and started laughing) then ignored me when I knocked again. When I knocked yet again, one of them *finally* got up with the most awful facial expression and opened the door and said "Uh, yeah?! What do you want??". I was taken aback on the tone and explained I had an appointment. They didn't even check and told me I was wrong and then basically shut the door in my face. I was APPALLED. I couldn't believe what had just happened and just kinda wandered off because I was just so shocked. Again, this was some time ago but, every time I go by the shop I just have the worst taste in my mouth. I have personally heard numerous others sharing their stories of pretentious attitudes shot their way by the staff too. Look, I am super patient and definitely don't expect to be treated tenderly or anything, lol... but, that was seriously just one of the worst customer experiences I've ever encountered in all my travels. read more

OK I am going to start with my critique of the business. They don't accept credit or debit cards- only cash. This process seems a bit dated to me. They have an ATM in the back but I didn't have a code for my credit card to pull out money. I was scrambling to get cash, but if you have a chase account there is one a few doors down. A bit on the pricey end for a straight barber shop that's minimal on hair styling efforts. I think I paid $50 for a cut with a $10 tip. I'm from the LA area and this is a common price for that area, but more amenities are typically offered. Factoring in these inconveniences put me on the fence between a 3 or 4 star rating. I, however, chose a 4 Star rating because: My haircut was great and I was happy with it. My barber, Mariay, had a down to earth personality and talent with the clippers. This place is a bit of a "man-cave" with cigars and a bar... if you are a regular you might be offered a premium cocktail. You would expect this kind of place to have premium prices but they aren't! I hate to pull the race card but I must say as an African American man in Montecito I was very worried about finding a good barber. Look no further, Alexis ALexis ALEXIS!!! He's got you taken care of. That being said, any of the staff at Richie's will take care you. This isn't the kind of shop you stop by every once in a while. This is the kind of shop that you go to for everything. Fades, line ups, styling, shave or even just a trim. I'm not letting anyone else cut my hair in Montecito or Santa Barbara. Do yourself a favor and ignore my review, just go and find out for yourself. Took my boyfriend to this gem for his bday. Wanted to treat him to a haircut and shave. Our experience was beyond our expectations. I was worried about bringing our fur-son, but not only did they welcome all of us, they even provided me with a refreshing beer, treats for our dog, and all the barbers gave him lots of pets! Showed up about 10 minutes late for a shave for my wedding, however, was told that my time was given away and I would not be given another time. I offered to wait since I was in no specific rush for a few hours, however, I was dismissed again. Rich was rude, short and aggressive. For a small town that runs at a very nice, slow and pleasant place, this place exudes cockiness, I'm too Cool for school, and a staff that is not worth any wait. Fortunately, my wife enjoys me with a little stubble, so this HORRIBLE experience ended up being a blessing in disguise. I was looking into new barbershops and happened to find Richie's. Scheduled a day-of appointment and they were happy to assist me. I met with Alexis to give me a sheer and wow! I asked that he do whatever he though best, and I received compliments almost everyday on how good my cut is! Plus, the hot shaving cream shave, good convo, and chill vibes did it for me. After having my hair butchered at the Mesa Barbers and the Mesa Fantastic Sam's, I decided to trek outside my neighborhood and try somewhere else. Found Richie on Yelp and I have to say it was the best haircut experience I have had in Santa Barbara, and I was born and raised here! You walk in an you are immediately taken back by how beautiful the place is. A guy's dream. Classy and clean. Plenty of seats for waiting, current magazines, and even books. Coolest part is the X-Box and leather couches in the back with an awesome cigar humidor/table and even a full bar! I feel like going in and just hanging out sometime. Richie is a true gentleman and Master Barber. I felt very relaxed and comfortable the entire time. Had a great conversation with him and the lovely Lauren. You can enjoy an awesome view from the bay window of Montecito or watch one of the HD Flat Screens. I now understand why real men go to barber shops and not Supercuts. It was a really fun and relaxing experience. I used to dread getting haircuts, now I am really looking forward to my next one. And at $25 for a cut, you can't beat it. This place is exceptionally amazing. I have had people destroy my thick tangle of hair many times before- but I got a more than great haircut here (with John I believe was his name maybe?). The atmosphere is perfect, they really do offer you a complimentary drink, and the atmosphere is cool enough to actually insite the cliché image of people just hanging out at barber shop to socialize when they don't really even need a cut. The prices, which are like $5 more than the giant fast-food-esque corporate haircut chains, are more than ideal in comparison- especially considering the exceedingly better quality and esthetics. Even relative to the, in my opinion, awful options for a decent haircut at one of those fancy frou-frou salons with their pomp, discomfort and expense- Ritchie's down to earth and comfortable quality still takes top bill in comparison. read more

Been getting haircuts from Richie since I was 14 years old (now 25) - the quality of his cuts have only gotten better and better. I've seen Richie grow his brand and his business since he started out at his new shop a few years ago, and I continue to be impressed with the outstanding service and commitment to quality that he and his staff offer. All too often, you'll see local barbershops like Richie's gain popularity and sacrifice quality for money in order to grow, but I can objectively say that Richie's is the exception. The shop is literally everything you could want in a local barbershop - sports, drinks (if you want them), great company, shaves, and top-notch cuts (pretty sure they have clothing swag and cigars now as well). The age groups you'll see on a typical day range from toddlers to young adults to adults to elders, which is definitely not the case in similar shops that usually cater to one specific demographic - one of the biggest reasons Richie's is so unique and continues to be so successful. Lauren, Jessica, and Martine are the sweetest (Richie's co-barbers), and they'll make you feel right at home every time you walk in the door, even if you're new. I've been to barbershops like People's Barber in SF and Bolt Barbers in LA that try and pull off the 'cool' 'hip' vibe, but nobody comes close to Richie's on quality alone.
