We ordered two small (175ml) glasses of the Shiraz/Cabernet and a bottle of fizzy water. (The bill was a bit steep at 19 quid, I thought). The wine could have done with being poured from a great height into the glass. It just needed opening up a little, but was a little metallic and not worth whatever we paid for it. The ambience was ok for a Tuesday night - about a third full of 'Wharf' workers (apparently there is no other wharf in London when you work near here...). There was only one other table occupied upstairs with us, which suited us fine as we were having the most interesting conversation that was probably best not overheard. The service was friendly, but a little too insistent. We took an hour to drink a glass of wine and bottle of water, and we were asked around seven times if we wanted any more wine or to order some food. That's a little under ten minutes between visits, which wasn't too bad, but since we could clearly see the waitress, it wasn't strictly necessary. The decor is pretty cold and nothing about this place is very inviting. Still, it's convenient for my friend's work and perfectly easy to be in - just don't expect stunning wine or for the other patrons to be all that interesting.

Get's busy on Thurs & Fri but still less rammed and slightly more civilized than most places in the wharf. I asked her politely if there was a problem, "NO, I just like to be asked by you folks" was her reply! As noted, this is a shop as well as a bar. I think you can buy anything in the shop and they'll serve it in the bar, though we've just gone for those on the wine list so far. Wine list is very extensive, they have from many affordable and reasonable bottles to high end bottles. Wine is transferred to a nice decanter for nice taste. Dinner menu price is reasonable for being at Canary Wharf, they have some traditional British pub style food. I was too busy tasting my food as I was trying to keep up with conversation with so many people but since I finished what was served to me, it must not be bad at all. Despite of being away from the main area, service was pretty good and several staff came at the same time to ensure dinner was served at the same time.

Menu had quite a lot of standard pub grub dishes, but also a few standout dishes like mushroom risotto, pate and steak. I had the bangers and mash which were delicious! Very good quality sausages and a rich onion gravy. Friends had the pate which looked lush! Only downside were the onions rings which were a bit in the soggy side.

As a wine shop it is pretty much like any other, with the odd offer here and there, but what is great is the small simple wine bar to the left of the shop. It is pretty un-obvious and as wine bars go, not the plushest. It has a wine list as you might expect, but what is unusual is that you can buy a bottle of wine in the shop (or Champagne - ofetn on offer) and they open it for you in the bar for a corckage fee of just one pound. So where as in most places you may end up paying double the price you'd pay in a shop, here it is just an extra quid! If you do go I recommend getting a plate of their fabulous french cheese or their meet platter with great French bread. The waiters are really knowledgable about the wine too.
