The fact that it was a free initial consultation was a pleasant surprise. In addition, Stephanie Ramos, was very kind and attentive. I'm sure an error was made, not out of malice or purposefully, but was mistakenly met with a junior member of the firm's criminal law division, despite being assured I'd meet with a partner. I asked, yesterday, to be represented by a senior or founding partner, preferably by Mr. Cantor as the case requires his unique expertise, especially since I only have one chance to present evidence to the Phoenix Court. Upon review of the firm's website, their Family Law division states they have affordable hourly rates. I am waiting on the wire transfer, for the $10K. It has to be pulled from different investments, to minimize the financial impact. The transfer should arrive this week. Given the urgent need for Mr. Cantor's unique expertise, I called and asked to hear back from the firm. My e-mail to the attorney who said that if I needed anything, to send him an email, has not responded. I have also not received any call or email from the firm since then. I understand Mr. Cantor must be a busy man, so while I still prefer him as my representative, throughout the entire process, most importantly have him physically present at the Court, to ensure my chances of success, I would be confident with any of the Arizona Board certified experts in Family Law to help. For example, Partner, Director of Client Relations, Daniel Wilcox; or Senior Associate, Lisa L. Monnette; or Managing Partner, Nicholas Boca; or Senior Associate, Kyle Stephenson; or Senior Associate, Travis Owen. Please reach out to me. During that meeting, I was not told that a Response was due, not warned that failure to file would result in default, and given no legal strategy, guidance, or next steps. I was told communication would occur through the client portal. It did not. At the time I retained this firm, my case was already on the verge of default. Nicholas Boca, Ryan Baumgartner, and the assigned paralegal all knew that a Response was required and that failure to file would result in default. I met with them while default was imminent. They knew. I was never told. Not a single document was filed on my behalf during their representation. No Response. No motion. No protective filing. Nothing. Despite filing zero pleadings and performing no substantive legal work, Cantor Law Group charged over $3,479.51 against my $7,000 retainer. I still went into default. After the firm withdrew, I requested my client file. What I received was alarming. There was no legal strategy, no draft pleadings, no analysis, and no substantive work product. The attorney "notes" consisted of only a handful of words. There is nothing in the file that explains or justifies the fees charged. When I escalated these issues and emailed firm leadership, I received a response from Nicholas Boca, with Daniel Wilcox copied on the reply. This was not an associate response -- it was firm leadership. The response stated the matter was "closed" and warned that any further communication from me would be considered harassment. That response says everything about how this firm operates: take a large retainer, fail to act when default is imminent, charge thousands of dollars anyway, and then threaten the client into silence when accountability is requested. This was not a misunderstanding. This was a complete failure of representation, supervision, and basic professional responsibility, with serious legal and financial consequences. I will be filing complaints with the State Bar regarding every responsible partner involved. I intentionally included firm leadership on my communications because once partners and supervising attorneys are placed on notice of serious failures, imminent default, and disputed billing, they are no longer bystanders. They are responsible for how those issues are handled. The response I received confirmed that leadership was aware of the situation and chose to shut it down rather than correct it.
