I kind of hate to leave such a meh review but this place is not great. A few months ago they stopped hanging things according to type. Now if it, for example, has long sleeves, it all hangs together. Sweaters. Tshirts. Blouses. Etc. It's really annoying when you're looking for a specific type of item. You have to sift through *everything*. The rest of the store isn't much different. There is some organization in the dishes etc but it's still all over the place. I expect that from the lower priced bins centers but not this one. read more

I haven't been to this Goodwill in a minute, and I was definitely impressed on my recent visit. It seemed like some of the merchandise has been reorganized in the past year in a good way. This store has always been very neat and tidy when I've visited. It's also much more specious than several other local Goodwill stores. Come expecting: ample selection of clothing basics, many parking spaces, close proximity to good coffee shops and food, and donation center in the back of the building. Also for the sake of the pandemic, there is plenty of room to socially distance, employees wear masks, and hand sanitizer is available in the store. One of the better Goodwills in this area for thrifting. I wasn't too impressed by the B Thrifty next door, so this place quickly scratched my thrifting itch. This location is definitely more clothing focused, and there weren't very many collectibles or much of anything else. Nice variety of donated items here. There is a separate room for media/books which I was into. There are several vinyl records, old VHR movies, used games, books in this room. There are special discounts on every day of the week. They have a color coated discount on respective days. You might be able to find some good clothing here but mind you that they all have been worn and washed plenty of times before they got there. If you are into oversized coats, sweaters, you can find them for cheap here. If you are interested in donating, you can pull your car up in the back parking lot. This is one of the larger Goodwills in the area. Well organized. This particular store has tons of videos, dvd's, books, artwork, all located in a room towards the front. Kitchen gadgets, pots, clothes, furniture, Christmas supplies all year long. read more

I had my first shopping experience inside Goodwill yesterday and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. It was open and clean. I noticed someone complaining about the grouping by colors within each category but with so many different brands and sizing scales the color grouping made sense. Frankly I was impressed materials were organized as well as they were. Along those same lines, the clothing pricing is general to keep things simple (sleeveless items, short sleeves, and long-sleeves are each grouped on different racks with the one price covering all items on that rack). Once again, I appreciate Goodwill's effort to keep things relatively organized and as simple and as organized as possible. Good job. It is also worth noting that donating is safe and easy at this location. You pull around back and there is a covered area where you pull up. Each time I have made a donation someone came out to take the items relatively quickly and they were always nice. There is enough room behind the building to easily turn your vehicle around. read more

I went to this place today and there was no price tag on the glasses I really wanted. When the cashier refused to sell them to me, I later called the store and asked to speak to the manager. When speaking to the manager to let him know that the customer has no say in what they want to buy and pleaded his case. The managers response was "that's store policy" and hung up on me. After spending several hundred dollars there in the last 2 months, I will NOT be going back to this store. read more

This is my first time coming to this goodwill, I was waiting on the long line from the fitting rooms. As soon as one was empty (20mins later) I was putting the clothes inside the fitting room and then this lady (representative) came to me and told me it's only 5 pieces at the time which I already knew there is signs everywhere even in English and Spanish! And I told her that I know and that I only had 3 pants inside. Now you tell me why she only told me and never told the other people that were taking more than five at a time???? I felt offended as a Latina being discriminated. Regardless when I finally finish trying everything. She approached me and said o "I guess you also know where the clothes that you don't want go since you know everything??? And I was like???? Are you serious????? I had the weirdest experience here. Yesterday i went and picked out a couple things. And among them were a pair of shoes marked 8.99. 1) as I was waiting for my turn to check out, I was the only one in line and the cashier was clearly busy with a customer looking at things inside glass cabinets. He looks my way and says " are you seriously ready to check out?" I didn't know how to reply to this and just nodded my head. Because obviously I was. I let this slide. 2) now as he was ringing me up. He comes across the shoes and says "no these are twenty dollars not 8.99" I look at the price tag on both shoes and see both shoes both say they are 8.99 on the tag. I look at him and say " the tag says 8.99 not 20". He response " ya I remember these. They aren't 8.99. They're 20 dollars" then starts taking off the little price sticker and continues to say " do you want them or not" I was bewildered. Can employees do that? Suddenly change the price of an item different from the price tag at their will? I have never encountered something like this at other goodwills or even before at this one. Is this a scam? I left the store without buying the shoes and just purchased the items he didn't change prices of. I guess at this store we need to ask for every price before purchasing. read more

I'm breaking my review into two parts: Donating and Purchasing since I had such opposite experiences. Donating: this Goodwill is my "go to" place to drop off donation items. Goodwill is a non profit whose mission is to help those in need/disabilities . Since I'm not a fan of shopping, I have no idea why I have so much stuff, so I make myself purge stuff I don't need a few times a year. The employees are always friendly, willing to help unload and great about getting you on your way. I've never had to wait more than 5-10 mins to get things dropped off, my tax receipt and on my way, even during busy donation times like at the end of the year. Purchasing: I went inside last June when I was dropping off some items and saw an 'amazing Christmas sweater' that was being displayed in the window. You know... the kind that would be a guarantee to win any 'ugly holiday sweater contest.' So after dropping off, I went inside to take a look. This first thing that hit me was the smell. Yes, I know that thrift shops don't generally smell like a bed of roses, but the smell was particularly pungent, like being punched in the nose. It was a like a cross between a retirement home, dirty litter box, guys locker room, with w faint wispy undertone of Pine Sol. I asked one of the employees to help me get the sweater from the display, which she did cheerfully. Upon seeing my delight at finding such a "Christmas Treasure" in summer, she was even kind enough to offer to to see if I could get a promo discount they were offering on ladies shirts that day, even though it was a sweater. read more

Ok great that you have the clothes marked with sizes. Most Goodwills are so proud of their color coordinated rows and don't think hey who wants to go through fifty shirts of red to look for their size. The young man with dark hair up front was very friendly, but can someone put up a sign that the line to pay is six feet away from the register?? I'm standing by the register behind a lady , and I here the cashier say,"next"! Screaming past me to a line literally six feet away. Not good. The shoes should be labeled for size as well. I think there is a lady selling items from her home. And print postage label from the Goodwill for Goodwill to pay for her shipping cost. Her invoice states Goodwill on the top of the invoice. Yet is it is not the address of Goodwill. Can this happen in your store and not know you are paying shipping cost free to a employee in your store. I hope you can find out. $8.99 for a used pair of shoes?!? This Goodwill is way too expensive. I've been to Goodwills all across Atlanta and this one is by far the most expensive. What's the point in going to a store and paying $5 for a used t-shirt when I can get a shirt of similar quality for $5 at Walmart? I liked Goodwill when their prices were lower. I tried to donate today. I had a few home-run items. Antique knick knacks, Starbucks Verismo machine, a good espresso machine, among other things. I estimate at least a $100 dollar value. Goodwill expects us to sit outside for 15 minutes while they sift through our stuff and decide what they want. Which means I'll have to make a separate trip to the dump anyway. I might as well just skip Goodwill and take it all to the dump. I look forward to my phone call with Goodwill corporate office and I hope they decide to hire some competent managers. read more

This is my review based on how this Goodwill is implementing both mandatory and best practice rules/precautions during Phase II (COVID-19). I was very impressed with this Goodwill location, the practices in place and the employees. I visited another thrift store down the street that did not remotely compare or seem to care about the safety of their employees or customers. So I was incredibly pleased to see Goodwill doing everything they are supposed to: checking capacity with someone at the door, checking that guests had masks on, providing wipes/sanitizer for guests, social distancing reminders and decals placed on the floor throughout the store to help people stay safely apart, sneeze guards at the check out to improve safety for employees and guests. I felt comfortable coming to this store and grateful Goodwill has clearly done their homework to assure organization, management and safety standards are being met/exceeded during this time. I usually hit the Goodwill stores in Arlington and Falls Church, but heard an announcement about the opening and decided to check this place out since it's so big. My GENERAL complaint with Goodwill is I don't understand the logic of organizing items by color, except that it makes life easier for the employees versus the customers. The Goodwill stores in So. Arlington on Columbia Pike and Glebe Rd organize in the same manner. My SPECIFIC issues with this store were: #1. At 8:30pm, they knocked loudly on every dressing room door to get a jump on closing- time protocols. I've worked retail and I understand both sides of the coin. Industry standard is an overhead announcement at 20 minutes prior to closing and another at 10 minutes prior to closing. #2. Inconsistent pricing. There was a pair of lightly worn Banana Republic pants priced at $19.98. Why not price them as the other brands of pants? They're not new with tags and they are not designer. The better Goodwill stores are on Rte 50 near Patrick Henry and Rte 50 and Annandale Rd. read more

Eh, definitely not my favorite Goodwill.... I am a frequent thrift shopper and I sell clothing online, so I can spend hours in thrift stores and find tons of amazing bargains; however, I found this Goodwill to be way overpriced (compared to other ones in the area) and the customer service sucked. This store has a large "designer section" of the store and it is SOOOO overpriced. When I am thrifting, I am not going to pay $20 for Lucky Brand Jeans when I can get them for $4 at other thrifts very close by. It was clean and huge, so that was a plus, Some of the items I wanted didn't have price tags, so when I asked the manager about pricing, he basically accused me of taking the tags off and was super condescending and rude. He told that he "guessed I would have to just come back and hope that the item I wanted wasn't sold" b/c he wouldn't sell it to me that day and it had to be "researched again and priced accordingly." It was a pair of jeans for the love of life. Calm down.. I don't need to remove price tags at Goodwill, and if he had just been polite and apologetic about it, I probably would have gone back a few days later.. I found very few things I was excited about and ended up spending way more than I wanted to and the manager really rubbed me the wrong way. I don't think I will be going back anytime soon which is unfortunate because it has a lot of potential to be a great Goodwill! I'll stick to Fairfax Goodwill!!! read more

Today was my first time at this Goodwill. I primarily came to make a donation, but ended up leaving with about 15 tops and 4 books. For $45 I think I fared well. My only issue was actually with trying to make the donation. As this was my first time at this location I didn't know where I was going but I know in general the donation centers are usually around the back of the building. I finally noticed a few signs pointing toward the back right side of the building, but that led no where. I found it was around the back left side. I think that could be better indicated (for future newbs). This location has a large books and media section and I liked that. I also found the quality of donated goods to be better than I've seen at other locations. Hopefully I'll get lucky again next time I stop in. Also worth mentioning (and again this was my first time so not sure if normal or not) they had flash sales going on while I was there. For about 30 minutes they had 35% off of your total purchase! Seriously one of the best thrift stores I've ever been to in my entire life. For me personally I had an amazing experience and actually found pieces for my PETITE SIZE. What made this a good experience for me was coming here on a Monday, so maybe I was very lucky that day and hit the jackpot. I found a bunch of skirts, coats, and ties and spent about $30 for everything. Employees are friendly and store was very clean and organized. They organized everything by size and color which made it so easy for me to find stuff and not have to dig my way through racks. Come on Tuesday for 50% off! read more

This is a clean, well-lit store with a great selection of clothing, shoes, furniture, books and knick-knacks. The store is very large and has a pleasant atmosphere and does not have that "used clothes" smell so prevalent in other stores. I found some lovely dresses, a purse and slacks that are in excellent condition. I can't wait to go back. read more

First of all the chairs are not all wood, at least the pad wasn't wood! and when I call the store they clearly said they don't inspected donation for bed bugs, so I am not surprised, but very mad, because I thought they inspect it. well now don't wait for me because like I said in my first post I already trow the chairs, because when I discovered that they have bed bugs, I could't leave the an other second inside my home. Bed Bugs treatment is very expensive! I still have the receipt, but I am not expecting any refund from you, because you are waiting for the chairs back and I already trashed them! and bought a new one. read more

I don't know what everyone's gripe is about this store. It's decent. Had no problems with staff. I didn't really find much though. Or anything I thought was worth the price. I don't really like how everything was the same price (all sweaters $5). I guess it's good if you find something that was really worth more than $5. Clean and friendly, we found several treasures at this Goodwill location. The prices seemed fairly equal to those at other Goodwill locations in the area. One thing I did notice and appreciate was that clothing was clearly marked "small, medium, large and extra large" with color coded tags, easily visible without having to search through the racks. I've not seen this before at any other Goodwill. Definitely worth a triip. read more

This Goodwill has a wonderful new manager, Tom Culley, and things have really turned around...the staff is much more efficient and actually kind, and that makes a change! The assistant manager is also first rate, and I think he hired her. They remember regular customers and insist on respectful treatment for all, including those who speak English with some difficulty...in the past, I have seen foreign-born customers treated very badly indeed, and this matters to how I view a store. Indeed, my only concern lately has been with the sloppiness of donations inspection before it reaches the retail location. Some things with rips, missing parts or (ugh) unpleasant stuff not washed out have made it past centralized sorting. The worst example, however, was not in this store, but at the Glebe Road Goodwill, where I will no longer shop. This huge store has lots of everything, and now it has kindness. read more

I don't know what the complaints are about for this store either. I have never gotten anything but polite responses or smiles to my questions and comments any time I have spoken with an employee. I have also not had any issues with finding clothes in my size/ in the color I want Of course there may be a Men's or Child's item mixed in with the Women's but that happens everywhere, not just at Goodwill. My husband and I have gone in there about 3 times in the last 6 months with family and friends and everyone found several items we were looking for and they are beyond comfortable and affordable. I already have plans to go back tomorrow and pick up the rest of what we didn't get tonight. read more

EXTREMELY RUDE/ CRAZY employees! Yesterday a guy with cornrows/braids pushing a small cart yells at me, "MOVE OUT OF THE WAY" the STRANGE part is that I saw him coming and was already moved out of his way BEFORE he yelled. Then his second personality says in a much calmer voice, "I wondered if I can get this through here." Nuts, just nuts. I tried to find him so I could get his name to complain but he disappeared in the back. When I went to leave up front the employees had the NERVE to be talking about HOW RUDE the customers were "all day today, what the heck's wrong with our customers?" Maybe they are sick of being yelled at by your crazy employees. There is always a line and it's never moving at all. They are SLOW as molasses and the guy had to go to work so he asked if they can speed it up a little and they freaked out on him. Everyone felt the same and was happy someone finally said something you can see it on their faces. How these people have jobs is beyond me. If I moved that slow at my job I'd be FIRED. As far as their stock goes most of this store should be in a dumpsters. They don't have anything good here at all. It's all the picked through stuff from other stores that nobody wanted. A lot of it is damaged and broken and over priced. I actually picked up a few items that were priced higher than they were before! Instead of marking things DOWN they mark then up!!! A water bottle was .98 cents then marked UP to $1.98. A bunch of kitchen items where the same MARKED up. Good grief this place is messed up. read more

This store is great. So much more organized than any other Goodwill store I've been to. I really appreciate their children's area. Nice setup for kids to play while shopping in the kid's section. Employees were friendly and courteous. Great store. Especially in comparison to others in the area. read more
