Somehow I always miss the 20% off sale which almost never applies to food. It's one of the few stores left when you can browse for new items you've never see before. I also noticed that there are more furniture and lamp options on display, compared to other locations. so heads up of you're in the market for that. Did an online order, and realized after check out you need a code to save 10% for pickups. No big deal... got a text at 9:49am that order was ready. 4:30pm stopped over to pick item up. Should have been an easy in and out. The young lady at the check out could not find the order. She even asked her manager. No dice. They looked at my order number several times, and in their system. She then tells me they are still filling orders and to come back in about an hour. Hesitantly, I return in an hour and there is another lady in front of me who is having the same issue with the same cashier at the same counter. They can't find her order and she wants to speak with the manager. Luckily I get another cashier. She goes and searches, comes back with my item and says it was in a place it should not have been. I am not sure what is going on with online orders, but they do NOT have their stuff together. What should have been a 10-min quick pick up turned into almost 2 hours crazy treasure hunt. Shopping in Virginia... My friend and I are quite good at shopping. We enjoy bargain hunting and looking at Hello Kitty items. I don't remember why we were discussing World Market. She said that there's a location nearby to where we were. I told her that I had gone to World Market in Pasadena, CA and had found Hello Kitty tote bags, pasta, and plastic plates. She had given me some Hello Kitty notebooks from World Market in the past. All of those items were not at this location, but we did find the bubble tea kit, instant noodles, and ramune - all with the Hello Kitty logo! I did see a cute panda glue stick and was able to resist it. However, I couldn't pass up a "Father of the Year Award" for my nieces to give to their father... LOL! It was in the clearance section - a very appropriate gift for Father's Day next month! Whenever there's a World Market, I like to browse through the various departments which carry ethnic foods, accessories, clothing, and home furnishings. The products vary, so, take a look! My friend's wife raves about World Market so we had to check it out. Its pretty similar to Home Goods in my opinion just with a wider food selection and alcohol. Was pretty impressed by the amount of Japanese snacks and cuisine from other parts of the world they carried and for a decent price too. We picked up a ton of snacks to try, some flavors of sake we hadn't seen before and a few kitchen gadgets. Careful if you get a cart or basket as it adds up fast! Products seem to be a nice quality, not bargain bin cheap like other places I've been to. Word to out of towners like myself, remember to bring your own bag to avoid paying 5 cents for one. For the first time! I thought this shop is just s normal discount one. It is not! They have many things. Furniture, decorations, food, beer, wine, soda, etc... Furniture: Cheap and low quality. Food: International! They have many clearances up to 55% off. I bought lots of all natural Indian curry. Drink: If you get their free membership, you can get special prices for wine especially. I love this World Market, and World Market in general! It is so clean, organized, and has unique snacks that come from all over the world and they are A-mazing! I loved how they recently started the golden seahorse scavenger hunt! It is such a creative idea! It makes your shopping experience different and fun and on top of that you get a $5 or more off your purchase! I found my golden seahorse this past Friday, and my fiancé found his yesterday! We got $5 off on our snacks for our date night movie on Fridays, and got more snacks on Saturday. I hope World Market continues to do this golden seahorse scavenger hunt every year! I called this location to see if they had papasan chairs and papasan cushions in stock. The man said they had a ton, and when I asked which cushion textures they had in stock, he said tons and I'd have to come in and look for myself. I came to this store and looked around and couldn't find any papasan chairs. I asked an associate where they might be and she was confused and said I should just look around until I found them. A second later I spotted the chair base right behind her. I explained that this was what I was looking for and asked if they had any cushions in stock. She said they were all out of cushions. Please be on the lookout on their flash sales, as I was able to stock up on the Mam Papaul's red velvet cake mix! I also like their houseware/dishware items, as I've also picked up some of their plates, decorated bowls, and other kitchen essentials (such as a turkey baster, a meat thermometer, etc.). I currently have my eye on the Terracotta Pig Grill that was featured a few summers ago, but don't fret if certain items are not available in-stores - World Market is great in shipping items. I want to give special attention to the customer service. My husband and I were looking for mead for a potluck, and we weren't sure if World Market carried any. We asked someone in the alcohol section, and they said it was seasonal but they should've gotten a recent shipment. I expected them to give a cursory glance and that's it, which is fine since it was a shot in the dark. They knew a shipment had arrived, and lo and behold the employee managed to find the mead still packed in a box among a stack of boxes. She opened it up and gave me the bottles I needed right from there. I can't believe she found it! I wish I'd gotten her name, because I appreciated her going above and beyond for me. read more

The GOOD: I love the selections here at World Market. They carry stuff that other stores do not. I love browsing through their unique cards and gift items, baking supplies, furniture and around the world food selection. It's a truly unique place. Pricing - generally pretty reasonable and sometimes things go on sale which is even better. The BAD: Like someone else mentioned in a previous review, I've also encountered many pricing errors. It's clearly marked on the item but for some reason, when it is scanned, the price is never right. The cashier has to either call the manager or when I'm lucky and have the manager, they have to punch in a bunch of codes to fix it. It really holds up the line. But recently, I started questioning the validity of the prices and sales. I found an item marked up during a sale and that was a little disheartening. Overall, I recommend this store for their unique selection and you can always find something to be inspired by. I'll overlook the pricing issues for now. read more

Oh my, where do I begin. A few weeks ago, I visited "World Market" in Kingstown VA and fell in LOVE. So yesterday I discovered there was a "World Market" in Skyline (S Jefferson st) My experience at this location was the worst. 1. Upon check out the White Woman with the Red hair spent nearly 15 minutes with a Man and Woman chatting all while myself and others waited in line. She never called for additional Cashiers. When she finally finished, I was next and as I proceeded to her line, she put her hand and said "Wait, I am Done" "I will have to call more Cashiers" that is when a few people behind me line yelled in disgust and stormed out of the store leaving their items. She then says to them as they were leaving " I am so sorry we could not have helped you better" with smirk on her face. She then proceeded to call over the store intercom for Cashiers, something she should have done during the 15 minutes she was chatting it up with the couple. The next issue was a Chair that had no Price tag on it. I asked the young man the price, he left and returned with a digital price gun, flipped the chair over scanned and said " Oh wow it is on Sale $179. At the register a Black woman comes to take over the rude White Woman with the red hairs Register. I tell her the price of the chair and explain to her that it had no price tag on it and the young man checked the price with his price gun and told me it was on Sale for $179. She looked at me with a Blank look as if I was lying and the next thing, I know nearly 20 minutes of her flipping the chair over writing down a number on a piece of paper only to repeatedly enter the numbers in the Cash register and realize she once again wrote the number down wrong, never once communicating with me. She then comes up with $299 and breaks out a old school Calculator and proceeds to key in random numbers and then tells me if I want the chair, I will have to pay $220.00 Dollars. Of course, I told her no and told her I am paying $179 and asked her to get the salesman who helped me because it is obvious that she knows not what she is doing. She refused, and then I asked for the Manager, and she said, she is the Manager. WOW! She then said you can come back tomorrow when he is here so I can find out what he did? I Left. The worst. I will never go to that store at that location again. read more

At the end, they couldn't find the exact item I was looking for but found similar enough that I could substitute. I've discovered over they years that each of the 3 World Markets near my home have their own charm and reasons I visit a particular one. For this location, I love their selection of kitchen & dining items, food & pantry items (particularly imported items) and the enormous selection of beverages including wine, sake, beer, boutique/old fashioned sodas and Italian flavored syrups (lots of SF varieties of these too). I am in here at least once a month for something or other and come Christmas I always walk out with a bag of goodies to fill stockings. They have a good selection of home decor and furniture. I like that they carry many items for a long time - including some seasonal items that I happily see return year after year. I fell in love with a coffee table 3-4 years ago and when I decided recently to upgrade a number of items in my home, I was glad WM was still carrying the exact item that had caught my eye. I also prefer the layout and organization of this location over the other 2 as the staff clearly understands that a shoppers ability to just simply walk from the front of the store to the rear and back shouldn't resemble an obstacle course. read more

Now that I'm almost a grown up I'm considering patio furniture and dressers: this place has an AWESOME selection with very reasonable prices. This is not my favorite World Market location, but it's a-ok. The strip mall / parking lot where this shop is located are jammed packed and kinda rundown. The store itself is overcrowded and laid out too tightly. Every time you turn around, you hold your breath that you didn't knock something over. This particular shop seems heaviest on the furniture, baskets, etc. and lightest on my favorite items, food, beer, wine, etc. But overall, still a decent selection and all at decent prices. read more

For example, they can never get the pricing of items correct. Each time I have come, errors were made at the register and I had go review pricing for them and have them change it. Really really tight world market. So hard to navigate through effective with strollers because there is just stuff everywhere. I come in for particular things and I just like to come in and grab it. Otherwise, I'll be in here hours and hours not very productive. I waited in line for 20 minutes and the cashiers didn't seem to have sense of urgency. Whom appeared to be like a supervisor/manager didn't give 2 cents if there were customers waiting in line for quite long but she rather lay on the counter and browse on her computer and ordered people through her headset. The staff in this store went above and beyond to help us with our furniture purchases - manager Jim arranged for a staff member to pick up a chair for us from another location, tracked down another two in a different store and was up in the back of our SUV to help load a media console. I couldn't take my eyes off of all the goodies I needed in my life. I came on a mission to find a great side table that already matched the worldly style of my home, I left with everything I probably didn't need, but it felt right ;-) I'm not complaining, it just means that they have so much of what I want. I got some really great decor (coffee tabletop decor) to balance out my living space and my boyfriend is much happier because of it! There is truly SO many items to choose from, it can become overwhelming. Just go there with a rough idea of what it is you want and you'll absolutely walk out with SOMETHING. Overall: Great place for home items, different types of food/candy/beer/wine than you'll find at a grocery store -- but this location is smaller than others I've been to. Service: We went on a busy day close to Christmas so I was ready to stand around and wait. Employees brought a huge basket of candy to people waiting in line, though, so that was a really nice touch! Chocolate makes everything more bearable. Tip: they carry a type of German, marzipan-filled stollen that's AMAZING -- be sure to pick some up! I love this store unabashedly. If I could live in the bath section I'd have you step over me. This is one of the most fabulous of the World Market stores. It's big, plentiful and colorful. It's vibrant and everyone is always so cheerful. I mean, I would be too if this was the paradise I had to work in every day. The prices for beautiful things really does make me feel like I'm in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar (but this is way better, trust me, I've been to Istanbul). The selections, the variety...it's overwhelming to me. If I won the lotto I'd buy a World Market of my own. To go with my rainbow Lambo. But I digress... The only, ONLY thing I dislike...is the checkout. It's a narrow passage that isn't really that accommodating to baskets. There's a little cement ramp that goes into another fabulous section so it's impossible to hold a cart there without practically using brute force to keep it from rolling down. It's very odd. Also, there was a long line when I was there and only one person manning the registers. Oh well, I get it, I can share my love. The personnel are fantastic, helpful, out going and smiley. The location didn't have the furniture item we wanted, but pointed us to one that did. In the meantime we found some fun food items. Rather randomly one night, we discovered World Market and felt transported to another dimension of funky souvenirs, delightful foreign snacks, and neat furniture. The collection can best be described as eclectic for the front of the store has chairs and pillows, the middle features home decoration trinkets from far and wide (rose bud-shaped soap, anyone?), and the back charms with gustatory delights--wine, spices, candy, among other treats. Happily, we were able to locate a favorite snack from the UK that is elusive at most foreign goods places so big kuddos to WM.
