If I wrote this post a year ago, I would have given it 5 stars. Great clothes, service, and a sense that this store made the neighborhood even better. I had overheard someone outside the store say that this store was one of the better Goodwills in the Bay Area for both quality of merchandise and how much volume the store would sell. It felt like a real find and how lucky we all were to have this store in West Portal. But now, all of the jewelry, merchandising, and consideration for how people want to shop is all gone. Now there is hardly any good stuff; it's just racks and racks of sub-par clothes. It's hard to walk around in the store or find anything. You want to spend less and less time in there. As a result I haven't purchased anything in there in ages. It needs to be re-named because it's not a boutique anymore. It's a mess. read more

I used to love shopping here, but not anymore. The store has been rearranged, and they no longer carry much designer stuff, maybe one item here and there. Prices are way too high, and it's not a Goodwill boutique anymore , it's just a regular Goodwill. Most of the clothing is from Target, Walmart, Forever 21, etc., and they also sell random items like monitors, TVs, speakers, and kitchenware. I even saw Costco clothes priced higher than retail and a toy for $150 , that's crazy. This place used to be busy, but now I usually only see one person shopping. I was looking all around the city for a black dress. On the way back home from Stonestown, the Goodwill Boutique caught my eye. So I decided to hop off the M to take a look. Most of the brands are higher end, though there were a few that were store-brand names, like Macy's On 34th. I found some contenders but then noticed there wasn't any fitting rooms. So I decided to buy them would return the ones that didn't work. That's when I found out that their return policy is only 7 days and for store credit. So I ended up buying one dress that I felt would fit me the best. Though it did fit me, it didn't wow me. Plus, it was dry clean only. I usually check for that, but forgot to do that when I was looking for a fitting room that didn't exist. So I returned it the next day and used the store credit to buy two other items that I knew I would keep. I like that this Goodwill location is trying to convey the boutique experience as opposed to their regular stores. And the prices sort of reflect that. The On 34th cable knit I bought was $14.99 and I have a feeling it would've been less than that at their regular stores. But I understand it goes towards their charitable work. Also, because there isn't a fitting room, people resort to the back corners of the store to try on clothes. I saw one woman in the middle of changing into jeans as I was walking to the back where there are mirrors. I appreciate the thought behind the boutique, but there really should be a fitting room if that's the experience they're trying to convey. I don't normally go to West Portal anyway, so I most likely won't be coming back unless I was looking for outerwear. But for ladies who do wanna try to find good deals on somewhat higher-end brands, wear yoga pants and a cami so you can easily try on clothes. read more

Marketed as a more Premium thrift experience - however staff does not curate what's on sale for damage. There's no changing rooms and the customer is expected to know that staff puts items with rips and holes out for sale and should be vigilant about it. Poor experience purchasing a sweater that I realized was not fit for sale after bringing it home. Manager cited that it's up to the customer to ensure item is fit for sale before purchasing. The store is not curating for quality - just trying to turn profit on labels. Item was unsellable, yet was still required to physically go back to the store, wouldn't refund money, and only offered store credit. Poor customer experience/buyer beware. Have historically donated a large amount of good quality clothes/brands to Goodwill. Moving forward will avoid this company like a plague and will donate directly to women's shelters. read more

I was very happy with my experience here. I was looking specifically for tips that felt nice and that fit well. I wasn't looking for specific brands as much as a wardrobe refresh. I found about 20 items: about a big Ikea's bag worth. There are no dressing rooms, which I knew in advance, so I just wore a tank top and shorts that I could slip clothes over. Other folks were trying things on in the store too. You can also return things within 7 days I think if they don't fit. Street parking was okay - I think that was about $7 for the time I was there. You guys!! I was so happy with the clothes that I got. I wanted to value them at full retail rather than what I paid, so when I got home I looked up each item (or the current version), and made a spreadsheet. I paid 10% of the original full retail. 90% savings!!!!! There were brands that were new to me, and some of the clothes still had tags. That weekend, I wore one of my new outfits to a seminar and when I was registering they asked me if I was a speaker. What a compliment! I used to come to this store often and bought some really good quality suits here. But since the new management took over, the policies have been terrible. I remember when I could go into a fitting room and try clothes on--now they've removed the fitting rooms entirely, which is ridiculous. On top of that, I was told I could return items within seven days. I bought a pair of pants, went to my car, tried them on, realized they were too small, and brought them back five minutes later. Instead of a refund, they told me I could only get store credit--even though the representative at the time of purchase had said otherwise. Another big change is how the store itself is run. It used to be very organized, but now it's chaotic. Sizes are spread all over the place, making it frustrating and time-consuming to shop. The new management has done a poor job. I miss the old store and the employees who worked there. The current practices feel predatory, the prices have gone up, and the quality has gone down. I'm not happy at all. If you shop here, make sure you try on the clothes before buying (if you even can). I will admit to everyone, I am a big time thrifter as I don't see the point in spending an absurd amount of money on name-brand clothing. And I have been to my share of Goodwill locations over the years. However, this was my first time ever stepping foot into a "Goodwill Boutique". You might be thinking to yourself, what on God's earth is this boutique all about? Well, to put it simple, it has higher quality designer and name brand apparel. This particular location is located in the West Portal neighborhood of San Francisco directly on W. Portal Ave in only a short walk to the West Portal Muni streetcar station. I particularly like this part of San Francisco since it is further away from all the hustle and bustle of the more popular areas. It also has a lot more of the locals and less of the tourists. During my visit, I was able to park my SUV only a block away which was during the morning of Sunday 4/2/2023 at around 11:45am. As I mentioned, this Goodwill Boutique has higher end merchandise and expect to pay 2-3x's more on shirts, sweaters, pants, and apparel than you would at a typical Goodwill location. For example, there were a really nice pair of men's Lucky Brand Jeans for $30, a J Crew argyle sweater for $25, and an Adidas hoodie for $20. You will also find much nicer home decor, books, and for the ladies, a ton of designer shoes, handbags/purses and jewelry. Much of the merchandise here is also in new/near new condition so I could definitely see the difference. Overall, I highly recommend the "Goodwill Boutique" in the West Portal neighborhood. It is definitely a big step up in overall quality. The customer service here was above average while the overall experience met my expectations. With that said and done, I am giving this review a respectable four-star Yelp rating. read more

Something has changed--and not for the better This Goodwill Boutique used to be amazing. I could always walk out with two bags full of beautiful, designer-quality clothing that was new or nearly new. The store was bustling with people, and it truly felt like a treasure hunt worth the trip. Unfortunately, something has shifted. The store now has a strong, unpleasant odor, and the clothing quality has noticeably declined--I even came across a pair of jeans with dried ketchup on them. The layout and organization are also harder to navigate, which makes shopping more of a slog than an enjoyable browse. There were only a few other shoppers during my visit, and for the first time ever, I left empty-handed. I can't help but imagine sales have dropped with this new setup. Ever since this goodwill was absorbed by Arizona's goodwill, the selection of clothes is so much worse and not higher-end like the "boutique" name suggests. The floor racks were rearranged, and what once felt like a clean, tidy, nicer goodwill with more curated selections is now just another ordinary goodwill with racks stuffed with clothes that you have to sift through for better finds. Long time customer. This place has seriously gone down since Arizona acquired it. This past week it can no longer be called a boutique, but a regular goodwill. Layout is now very messy and made to cram as much merchandise as possible in there, but there's still upcharging of items that seem luxury. I've bought Gucci, bottega, Christian Dior here but since it's taken over by Arizona a lot of those items have stopped coming in unless customers donate directly to this store. I was told by staff the good stuff is likely shipped toward Arizona. I'm also not sure this place is run as a charity. They closed a bunch of stores and laid off a bunch of warehouse staff. Hardly sounds like their goal is to getting people with a tough time back to work. Rather it seems to be all about corporate profits like any other for profit company. Pros some of the same wonderful employees. I feel sorry for all of them receiving a lot of complaints from long time customers. More sales which can be a pro or con. A few years ago there were no sales but the senior discount. Although I'd prefer less sales and the same wonderful selection. read more

This Goodwill used to be special, feeling premium, elegant, organized, intentionally created, and clean. I was accustomed to high standards here, but today I walked into a literal jungle. I frequented this store every so often to know that what I experienced today was disastrous. Clothes were everywhere (it was 50% off today), designer section much smaller, layout felt like it was all over the place, just chaotic. I was in and out real quick! Was one of my favorite spots to come to and recommend and now just a shadow of its former self.. not even a shadow, maybe a passing whiff in a distant memory. Like others have mentioned- this used to be a great place with good brands. I was shocked with how much it changed. Complete disaster- clothes everywhere no order to anything- for example shorts, shirts, and dresses all in one rack mixed together so you really have to sift through. I live in the neighborhood and used to visit this Goodwill Boutique regularly. I purchased a lot of dresses and work clothes there over the years. I really appreciated the curated higher end clothes. Now the store looks like a regular Goodwill, and the quality of the items has gone downhill a lot (saw dresses with stains on them). I recognized one of the staff, and she explained the store is under new management. This is really disappointing for our neighborhood! Hope the management sees this and can bring back a clean, organized store with the nicer, higher end items. read more

Not a super big store, but very cute! Lots of shoes and clothes, and everything is well organized. They didn't have a lot of activewear, but they did have a lot of tops, and a wide selection of outerwear (denim jackets, sweaters, coats, leather jackets, etc). Everything was in really good condition! Definitely more expensive than your regular goodwill, but not on the pricey ends for SF. For example, jackets in general were around $15-20. Also, returns must be made within 7 days and only for store credit (so you have to come back, sigh). Also, store credit is only good for 2 months and then your money disappears. Everyone else, you might also very well find something cool, but there is much less selection to look through. Maybe it's just me, but I did notice more petite (short) sizing than most places, but that could have been just my most recent visits that I am remembering. Shoes are reliably nicer/cleaner/newer compared to most thrift stores. Examine items closely for flaws, and wear the right clothes so that you can try stuff on when you shop. Rude and Unprofessional Staff I live nearby and shopped here before. Today I came to the store to drop off clothes, but the staff was incredibly rude. While waiting at the counter, a staff member wearing a black cap and glasses bluntly asked, "Something wrong?" in a condescending tone, as if I was doing something wrong by simply being there. My friend asked whether we could drop off clothes, and we were told they don't accept donations. That's fine, but the rude attitude was completely uncalled for. Even another customer walking out behind us sympathized with how poorly we were treated. It's one thing not to accept donations, but it's another to treat customers so disrespectfully. This kind of behavior is unprofessional and reflects poorly on the business. Definitely won't be coming back, and this experience doesn't even deserve one star. To that staff member: the name "Goodwill" doesn't suit you. I hope you find a better meaning in your work and life. Treating people with kindness costs nothing. read more

Due to that, the prices are higher than at a typical Goodwill, but still a steal. The last time I came here I found 2 Reformation pieces for under $30 each! Why did she have to be so rude? I arrived at 5:50 PM because online it says they close at 7 PM. I was excited thinking I had an hour. And then the lady at the cash register start shouting at me, "WE'RE CLOSED" I said: Ahhh , it says your close on 7 PM online. Then she says again "SORRY WE'RE CLOSED" Then I say: OK :-( As I'm walking out I'm passing the shoes, so I have nine minutes at that point and just looked at the shoes quickly, because I can make decisions in a minute. Welcome to my 3000th Yelp review! This is a nice Goodwill store located in West Portal. There is a MUNI stop right around the corner. The pieces are generally more curated - think brands like BCBG Maxazria, Marc by Marc Jacobs, North Face, etc. As a result prices are a wee bit higher than regular thrift stores but given the nice condition of these pieces I think it can be worth it! I picked this asymmetrical zip up Marc by Marc Jacobs jacket for $25 and have been wearing it around all weekend. It was really handy in cold and foggy San Francisco! I almost bought a Michael Kors saffiano leather tote for $30. The bottom was slightly scuffed so I passed but overall not bad. Staff was nice. No fitting rooms right now but they have a lot of mirrors. read more

Horribly rude employees, mainly the male employee on 08/15/2024 at around 7:20pm My boyfriend and I stopped in on our way home from the Stonestown Mall. We each had a shopping bag from the mall. The male worker was extremely rude to my boyfriend, and was following him around like he was going to shoplift. He made us feel extremely unwelcomed there, and ruined our whole experience. We decided to leave without purchasing anything because of how we were treated. As we walked out the male who was working there was looking at my boyfriend up and down, and looking in his personal shopping bag with his eyes so hard that he almost fell over. My boyfriend widened the bag for him so he could get a better look because he had nothing to hide. My boyfriend and I will never return to this location because of how we were unjustly profiled and mistreated. read more

So after passing by this location a few months ago I finally find the time to go inside. There was no line like when I passed by before, I guess due to the COVID restrictions being lessened. So I walked inside and find a very small store, with I believe 4 people working inside. The men's section is a very small area located past the register, past that is woman's again. Such a lovely vibe throughout the store ! The staff are helpful In going through this beautifully curated store. The selection is full of name brand items at a very reasonable price compared to other "vintage shops" out there charging hundreds for the same jacket or shirts. I'm feeling very thankful we have a store that counters that culture of extreme over pricing at other vintage type store. By far the nicest Goodwill I've ever been to so much that I feel the need to write a Yelp review about it! Was having lunch nearby and stepped in here to kill time. It is beautiful and decorated like a fancy boutique rather than your average Goodwill but it didn't stop there. This store is STACKED with NWT designer items. They had $400 NWT Reformation dresses for $40, Burberry coats, and nonstop Lululemon for $10-$20!!! My husband scored a like new $300 Everlane wool overcoat for only $30 and a brand new dress shirt still with its Stitch Fix tags for $7. I fell in love with this NWT metallic baby puffer jacket and had to have it even though we have no baby in sight. Luckily my husband still bought it for me. No idea what I'm even going to do with it. Everything is extremely well organized and easy to find things in my size. It is mostly clothes so don't come here looking for any housewares and I am not sure if the books here are decorative or for sale. I wear a size 5 in shoes and did not see any shoes in my size but what else is new. Staff here is friendly. I definitely did not witness any of the rude screaming staff the other reviews have mentioned. We had frozen lemonades in our hands and they kindly threw it away for us too and I saw an employee help an elderly Chinese woman which I thought was sweet! read more
