Woman to woman playing it forward. Yes! I have had many wonderful transactions with Jane. She is very kind and friendly, but most importantly, Jane is fair and transparent. She remits checks immediately when an item is sold. Jane also does a wonderful job of merchandising where it's easy to shop for items that you may like to add to your wardrobe and closet! This store has so many gems! The clothing is fun, with unique pieces for work, casual and fancy. Their jacket selection is really beautiful. They have some gorgeous name brands here. I feel like the pieces are meticulously selected and so fashionable and classic. I really enjoyed looking through the purses and I pretty much searched through every rack. The woman who owns the store is lovely and it has boutique service with no rush or feeling of judgement. I got a purse, some shirts for work and a super cute sweater. I also found a nice lululemon jacket. I will definitely be back. The only thing I would've liked is if I received an itemized receipt as I couldn't remember what each piece cost when I got home. read more

I stumbled upon this store while waiting for my smog check down the road and what a treat. Jane was behind the counter and gave me an overview of where to find things as well as notifying me of special promotions. I was personally struck by the quality of pieces here compared to some other vintage/second hand shops I've been to recently. I wasn't expecting to buy but found a great jacket for a great price. I'll certainly be back, I didn't have nearly enough time to peruse today. read more

They have such a lovely selection of clothes and I am able to bring over things that they might want regularly. She is meticulous about her choices and gently worn things are looked over very carefully. I brought in some items to sell on consignment. Jane especially admired a silky, translucent floral kerchief, which she placed under the glass of the counter. She asked me if I wanted her to return any items that didn't sell. I said that she didn't have to. She looked up at me and we locked eyes for a moment, and I immediately realized my mistake. If she didn't have to be accountable to me for my items, what motivation did she have to share any profits with me? Sure enough, when I went back to see how my items had done, two of them had disappeared, including the silky kerchief! She said that she can't be responsible for every item in her store, as they "walk out" of there all the time. From behind the counter? Lesson learned. read more

Been here a few times and never left empty handed. Part of SF's charm is the mom and pop businesses and being a native here, I think it's more important now to support our local businesses. Her curated selection is appropriate for mature women. There might be a few items good for millennials, but Jane carries all the classy, timeless, and unique pieces. The ones who wrote negative reviews expecting something "different", should just stick to their Forever 21- cheap n' fast fashion, or shop at Haight and pick out recycled Gap or Old Navy stuff. Not knocking anybody's preference, but if you want to dress like a true grown up, Jane's is a good place with quality selection. read more

So once again Jane came through! This is the second time I've gone into Jane's consignment with my mum and walked out with exactly what I needed! Both times I've searched racks been unimpressed with the selection, not really my style and almost walked out... My mum alternatively ALWAYS finds great deals and awesome outfits. Mum mentioned that we were looking for linen and off Jane went combing her racks for items that when I looked weren't visible to me... But in her steel trap mind only she could find... She managed to conjure a full linen outfit for my SO and most of one for me including scarves, hand made in India!! Once again I walk out pleased as punch and all for significantly less that the Nordstrom's ballyhoo I was prepared to spend!! If you have an idea of what you want, go in talk to Jane, she's very approachable, tell her what it's for, the fabric and style you like... She is a magician you will walk out with a whole new outfit (or two) and for MUCH less than retail. If you have no idea what you want go in and start chatting with Jane and she'll bring you something you never knew you needed, what you've been missing without ever knowing it was your hearts desire... I had walked into this store months ago, excited to find a store in the neighborhood, and ended up spending a small fortune. Thanks not only to the great customer services I was getting but the surprisingly good selection of items in the store. Then I tried to return many times after during store hours only to find the place closed. When I came back to consign things many months later, finally finding it open again, the owner was incredibly rude to me IN FRONT of other customers. I will never waste my time in this store ever again! read more

Found some great face masks that fit me well and in fun designs. My favorites were the music, unicorn, and periodic table patterns. These are better quality that all the others i bought online, and a better value than i had seen elsewhere in SF. read more

Firstly, the fact that Jane has been in business for so many years is a testament to who she is and what she means to the neighborhood. Whenever I make an appointment to consign my items, Jane looks at everything I bring in and doesn't discriminate against any brands. She knows her store is unique, eclectic and can provide inventory for every type of shopper and price point. She cares about me as a client and neighbor and makes the process easy. I have consigned with many stores throughout the city and online, and for the first time in my fifteen years of consigning, I know that I am truly appreciated and her clientele will cherish my things. As a shopper, I have bought Louis Vuitton and Chanel leather handbags/accessories in excellent condition and love that I can find high end items with fun vintage pieces. I stopped in in late October while waiting for a table at PPQ. Immediate warm welcome from Jane herself and what followed---mind explosion! I found so many pieces with an emphasis on vintage and 90's designer outerwear and suiting separates...It is no wonder this one customer spent a lifetime in the dressing room. I was just trying on jackets, elsewise I might have asked Jane to duck into a back room. You want jackets from the 80s like my soft leather/ satin-lined fringed number? Go to Jane. Ox blood leather pencil skirts? Go to Jane. Consigned and vintage furs, Burberry trenches, Krizia military-style collarless jackets--GO TO JANE. The condition of the clothes I saw - very good to excellent. The standards are high here. All of the wealthy older women and studied fashionistas must have Ms. Jane on speed dial! I went shopping at Jane's Consignment on Saturday, June 4th, as she was having an Anniversary Sale. Everything was fine till it was time to ring up my tab, as I shopped and showed Jane items I was interested in she would let me know on each item what my discount would be. Once it was time to cash me out, I was hurried out of the store, as she had a visitor and was pre-occupied. When I told her she was rude, she simply claimed to be hungry. When I got home, I was still uncomfortable with the treatment, so I called Jane, only to be told that "Life is too short to be mad", which was worse than the humiliation I endured in front of customers. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and shopped at Jane's since her opening, I am sad to say I will never shop at Jane's Consignment store again. read more

In a world of mass consumption and blend retail stores, Jane's store is a reminder that quality neighorhood small business can exist in an expensive city. I usually go to Crossroads b/c it's more trendy, but I stop by this establishment when I get my hair cut down the street before 7pm. I always find something, and chatting with Jane brings me back to the small town I grew up in. Despite having so many categories, Jane takes the time to organize. Her efforts are impressive. For instance, all the shoes are organized by size and have their mates. Plus, she can guide you to what's hidden, as she treats each item as a story and not just a thing. The store bursts at the seam, so it can be overwhelming. As with discount stores or second-hand shopping, go in with objectives. I went in to look for a sun hat and found it in 5 minutes. The rest were wants, and I checked off several wish list items. Dressing via used items is an adventure, so why not check out Jane Consignment? If it's not for you, then the damage will be minimal. Jane, I still weep a little when I think back to the gorgeous wool bag with a red Army cross on it that I wanted to buy from you. I went back and forth on it, should I? Shouldn't I? I walked home, slept on it, and when I came back to get it the next day, it was gone, just as you had predicted. I purchased a vintage hanky to dab my tears, but it just didn't fill the void. First time going to Jane Consignment, and I really love it! First of all, the owner of the store is really, really nice and friendly. My friend and I struck up small talk with her, and she just went along with the conversation. It was a warm welcome, and wasn't awkward. Inventory-wise: I didn't really take much time looking at the clothes. I was more focused on their shoes, handbags, and jewelry. I have to say, the handbags there are very, very tempting. (I bought one myself... a Dooney & Bourke one for quite a good deal...) The place is small, but I do prefer it over something like Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange. She always has good specials, today was half off anything with certain tag colors which meant I got a wonderful jacket for $13. Great jewelry, own a few pairs of earrings from Jane's. I'm kinda torn about how I feel about this store. I consigned some clothes here (3 bags, 12 shirts and sweaters, 1 pair of shoes) and made like $15 in two months. I feel like I should have gone to crossroads. There is a very slim selection of quality items to choose from. You definatly have to dig to find a gem. I found 2 pairs of snake skin heels in mint condition for $20 each! They would have gone for al least $50 at any other consignment store. That made my week. ...So I went back in after a few months of vacation from this store to discover that I had a few checks waiting for me. It was a nice surprise. While I was browsing in the store I saw some great deals on designers...ie: a Jean Paul Gaultier turtleneck and skirt set for only $70!!, cute versace boots(forget the price, but it was good), and an amazing vintage cashmere and mink coat for only $200!!!! It's nice that the store is small, so you don't have to dig. If you're a brand whore or just have a good eye for quality, you'll find treasures that stick out like a sore thumb! read more

I never really tried consignment shopping, I always had a bad opinion of it. Right now I'm kicking myself for not checking out Jane's store earlier. All these years and she's been right in my neighborhood, and I never took a look. You can find treasures here. I've gotten some gorgeous items that I love, for a steal. Jane is always very friendly and kind, and honest. She won't push something on you, and is just incredibly helpful - she stayed late while I shopped and was so gracious about it. Listen up, ladies. This tiny shop is a girl's paradise. The owner is professional, incredibly resourceful, as attentive as anyone could be as a one-woman operation, and super friendly. She treats her customers with respect, tuning in to their preferences to browse or be helped. Best of all, she's got a GREAT eye for fashion and quality, and selects things to sell that are both fun and practical. The consignment clothing includes a wonderful designer area, and accessories are a great mix of new and used items. And despite the tiny space being packed to the gills, Jane knows her stock and keeps everything so well organized that she can zero in on what you need. Also, the creativity of her displays is just awesome. It's obvious that she puts her heart and soul into her work. As for pricing, I find everything very reasonably priced, and she's willing to bargain if I'm buying multiple items. I absolutely adore this place. My experience shopping here is always an excellent adventure, and I never fail to leave with veritable treasures since Jane makes such great finds. San Francisco is a challenging place to run a business in so many ways, but this gem in the Richmond District proves that where there's a will, there's a way. read more

Anyone that says you need to "dig" to find something great here doesn't really know how to consignment shop. You can't really go in expecting to find something specific. I was waiting for my friend to meet up with me for dinner on clement so I decided to kill some time in this store. As soon as I entered the store, jane was at the front counter helping a customer, and chatting away like old friends, she greeted me immediately, and told me that the stuff w/ the pink tags are 50% off. Just Superb. I found a really cute gray super soft leather long strap purse with bottega venetta-esque weaving and magnet closure Super casual cute. But it was kind of expensive than what I had hoped, and I just blew a whole bunch of money on vintage shopping recently, so I decided to put it back down, and not to purchase it. Its probably gone by now, but I can tell that since I still think about it, I should have MAYBE bought it (but I will be in Toronto in two weeks so hopefully I can get some great finds there). Great selection of clutches and scarves (saw a faux chanel scarf) too. I LOVE.... Absolutely LOVE that the shoes are arranged by size. THANK GOODNESS. b/c I wear size 5 and you don't know how much it sucks to find all these cute shoes, hoping for it to fit, but then you see the huge 7 or 8 on the shoe.... Sigh. But the organization of the shoes definitely saved me the headache. The store is kind of cramped, a lot of the clothes are on rotating rounders which is nice, b/c I don't have to move but the clothes will. Didn't have much time to really dig and find something cool since time was limited, but I kind of skimmed most of the racks, but didn't find anything that was a must have... I think I would stop by here if I'm in the neighborhood, but I have other places to go that are near me, so its not a top priority on my list. read more

What a wonderful little consignment boutique right in the heart of Outer Richmond. The selection is amazing, and Jane is absolutely lovely! She has a fantastic eye for fashion and is very helpful in helping you find exactly what you are looking for. Wonderful vintage and high-end items, as well as cute and unique home decor items and gifts. And everything is very reasonably priced.... There is honestly something for everyone. I had a wonderful time shopping and chatting with Jane, and left with an amazing leather pencil skirt (for only $10!) as well as a beautiful Sonia Rykiel blazer....I can't wait to go back as I know the inventory is updated literally every day. I've been coming into Jane's for about 10 years now, ever since I moved to San Francisco and discovered this store tucked into the Richmond. The clothing selection is not exactly my style (perhaps catered towards the 35 and older group) and a tad pricey at times, but I've always found the location convenient, so I stopped by frequently. Perhaps the cycling of clothing perpetuates itself as many of the consigners are also older. Upon a recent visit (which will probably be my last), it has become more obvious to me that the owner prioritizes customers who have a larger budget and becomes frustrated if you do not make a purchase after much perusing. Our conversation seemed disingenuous as Jane suggested more than once that I buy an item over my price range, growing friendlier in demeanor when I had more things put aside that racked up the price tags. She also appeared disappointed when I ended up opting for something more affordable. As the sole woman running her business in this city, I can appreciate the work it takes to bring everything together and compete with other consignment/vintage clothing stores. However, if I was basing my review purely on selection and the value I feel as a customer when I walk in, then my rating stands. Aside from the jewelry collection, millennials will probably have better luck finding a one-of-a-kind item in the Mission or Haight with better service. read more

Fun place to shop. Jane is the sole owner of this store that sells secondhand designer items such as clothes, shoes, jewelry and accessories. She's really friendly and great at decorating the window display to reflect the holidays and special events. Everyone wants to know my secret sauce... Like any consignment, you do have to return every so often and keep looking. I've shopped at a lot of consignment stores in SF and think Jane's is the best. Things I wish were different about this place: -I feel like 3 out of every 4 times I come to shop, Jane's is closed. It would be fantastic if the days/hours posted on the door were firm. I'd shop more often. -The noisy chit-chat and fake new money accents while I'm shopping kind of gets to me. (Welcome to Seacliff (Does anyone really speak like that?)) -Most days Jane is fabulous and wonderful, but I have witnessed the rudeness too. To her credit: a) she runs the store solo; b) have you seen how fast one woman can tear up a store trying on clothes?; c) welcome to Seacliff - some of these 'ladies of leisure' are very high-maintenance and would try the patience of Jesus. This Jane is anything but plain! Each consignment shop usually has a niche but Jane's Consignment defies categorization. It is small but well stocked, very organized & reminiscent of the posh consignment shops in Laurel Village (in terms of designer and overall inventory) but with a more modest starting price point. Jane is helpful, providing suggestions with warmth but no pressure. A recent stop into the store scored a one-of-a-kind vintage blazer for a song. Arts and craft items made by locals can be found too, which makes Jane a fabulous resource for everything from handcrafted jewelry to novelty socks. Jane Consignment is a neighborhoody place with personalized service and good value. This is not Crossroads. Proprietor Jane speaks fashionista and knows well what she has at any moment, which makes for efficient and successful personal shopping tips. This is not Goodwill. Everything is extremely gently used or new and definitely au courant. I do not believe there is anything for the men folk but this is a FANTASTIC place for a formals, finding new or barely worn dress or work clothes. Plus, Jane has more purses on offer than Imelda Marcos had shoes. I stopped in yesterday for the first time and I will definitely be back for three reasons. First, Jane is by far the most helpful and friendliest consignment owner in the city. (Some others border on rude.) Second, I bought my new favorite cashmere sweater for $20, so she has some fantastic deals. My all time favorite boutique in the neighborhood. I come from Hawaii about twice a year and always make it a point to stop in there. The owner/buyer is very helpful and always pleasant. She makes it a point to stock quality brands and designer names in a range of prices but be prepared to pay a little more for quality. Twice a year towards the end of the seasons, she has a great sale, marking things down by 50%. I never know what I'll find, but some of my favorite treasures come from her boutique, sale or not. read more

I LOVE Jane's! For years my friends would show up at parties dressed to the nines and they would always have the same response to "Where'd you get that?" -- JANE'S! I finally made it in about a year and a half ago and have been a regular since. Jane is a delight and her store is wonderful. I love that she carries all sizes -- everyone deserves to look smashing regardless of the number on their clothing! Bottom line: bad service, and big waste of time. Note that I never do Yelp reviews but feel strongly about this one. Details: Wasted hours and hours of my time pulling together my designer clothes, shoes and bags (in very good condition) for the owner to evaluate, and made a big effort to put things together as instructed. The appointment was rescheduled - not a big deal to me, but the point being that I accommodated her in that way as well. I drove across town and arrived on time for my appointment. The trunk of my car was full of items to be consigned, and I had to park a few blocks away. I took a large box of shoes into the store (in designer shoe bags) into the store. The owner told me she wanted to look at the clothes first and instructed me to put the box on the floor in a particular place. I thought that was odd but I followed her instruction and returned to my car to get a couple of dress bags of clothes (there were 5-6 so I would have had to make a few trips). When I returned she told me to lay the dress bags a certain way and take the clothes out of the bags. When I tried to explain that one of the bags was difficult to get clothes in/out of and asked if she could take a quick look to see if she would want me to bother bringing them back in the spring (or not) - since she had said she didn't want spring things now - she snapped at me and said "I don't think this is a good fit". And added "I work until 10pm every night", and "I work with over 300 consigners". First of all, we all are busy and many of us work very hard. If she was overwhelmed and couldn't deal with looking at more clothes at that time, she should have said so. Indeed, I called before I went in to reconfirm the appointment and had told her when she rescheduled that I wasn't in a big rush to get this handled. And If she didn't want more clothes, fine -- just don't waste my time!!! I'm happy to donate my clothes or go elsewhere - this wasn't about the money - more about repurposing. For designer clothes in good shape, I recommend The Real Real. They will come to your house and are nice! read more
