Goodwill of Arizona recently took over this shop. Despite all of the company's BS about supporting workers, they fired most of the longtime bilingual workers at this location, who have very demanding jobs, worked so hard and had long relationships with customers and neighborhood. They have also reduced the amount of stock on the floor and the once well-organized store is now very messy, with puzzling stuff like junky piles of old binders, empty shelves, and lots of clutter that limits access. I will shop here, but they will never get my donations as they are such an unethical "nonprofit". read more

I've have been coming here over 23 years. Noticed a lot of changes but now I'm done. Saw this woman try on clothes and kept them on. I noticed her because no shopping etiquette. She was at the register, get this, trying to return an item from the rack. I called her out that she had items on to steal. She called me crazy and denied it. All the lady had to do was ask to remove sweater and they would have seen the tags. Nope, let her go and out she walked. The old crew would have never. Black lady super chill and didn't give shit. My favorite Goodwill in the City. I live nearby, so I drop in whenever I get a chance. This location has great women's business wear, tops and pants, good kitchen items, scarves, purses, shoes and lots of DVDs. Lots of bedding and jewelry, and even records. Good knick-knack assortment, too. The staff are friendly; sweet ladies, and a few of them have been working at this location since I moved to this neighborhood over 10 years ago. They occasionally have to put up with some customers who come in only to steal clothes, which I have seen on several visits. They handle the situation well, and I feel badly that they have to put up with that. After you shop at Goodwill, don't forget to hit up Baby's Eatery and get some Lumpia to snack on. Excelsior coffee, Double Shot coffee, or Cumaica are all close by for great coffee, too. Close to lots of Muni lines for easy access. read more

I love goodwill haven't been shopping here since I worked for them 2010. I love the selection at this store. Spent almost 100 bucks like damn, half of my items fit. But, I will be returning some for some store credit. The Fillmore and the old mission location were my favorite. This one on ocean I like the customer service some of the older workers are sweet and have some that think you there to steal. But, it's understandable a little bit with this economy and the way it's going. I will definitely be back. read more

This is my local Goodwill. I walked in the other day and was completely horrified. It looks like a bomb was set off . This store was a calm little gem where I could come and shop in peace. Once upon a time it was organized and easy to navigate. Now it is a completed mess. Junk yes I said junk everywhere. I would assume that management has changed and so has the rules of accepting this junk to pass on to the people. Looks like all the best things has been put up for auction on their websites. There is no clear path, furniture and dirty pillows take up the shoe dept and the dressing rooms are now storage. I tripped over a lamp and why do you have a ramp if a wheelchair can't even be used in the isles. This is unacceptable and quite frankly disgusting. Employees look tired and overwhelmed having to find places to shove everything where ever they can. By the way I went to a few other locations and it's the same over priced filthy mess. Heads up to the people running GOODWILL. This is an accident waiting to happen. If the fire dept walked in there you would be fined no doubt about it. Your establishment is no doubt a money maker. Taking peoples money who are mostly in need not all resellers deserve a lot more. I'd like to see management take a walk through or maybe try shopping in these places to see if it's the right thing. Shopped for the first time today even though I have lived in the neighborhood since 2009. They have a small but nice selection of things but everything I picked up was WAY overpriced. I know they want to make money but I feel like they could sell much more with more reasonable pricing. Been finding myself visiting this location more and more due to themed events...uhm yeah, thanks to UYEs. If you don't want to shell out money for something you'll wear maybe once - or only a couple of times during Halloween - then this is a good way to go about it. I scored an fugly sweater there "on sale" for $5.50 (there was no stitched-in tag so I didn't even know which was front and back!). But luckily got it on a one-day-only-sale-half-off all items. So, yes, scored that fugly sweater for $2.75 to wear to events (beware of pic as what you've seen cannot be unseen). All the items for sale are cheap as expected, and are in generally good conditions. And not just clothing, but even the knick-knacks, toys and household items. There is a 3-day same store credit on electronic returns. However, the place does look chaotic and things are all over the place, but it's not that much worse than other discount stores (e.g., rhymes with Floss and Martials). Doubt I'd buy something here to use or wear, let alone to shop for gifts. And I'm assuming anyone who yelps are not in dire situations, but good luck to you if you are. The surrounding area feels like you're in a third world country's surburbs, but it's not as dangerous as it seems at all. The SFPD also patrols the area even more often than the meter maids (meters are required until 6pm, and parking is not too hard to find). read more

Don't worry about the customer service. There isn't any. I bought over 30 items. Took ALL the clothes off the hangers and folded it at the register. All the lady could do was give me attitude about how much room my bag was taking on the counter and not to put my credit card into the slot. I loved the Sf Portal Hill location until tonight. I am an advocate for recycling items and paying it forward with contribution of my own overpriced items. Tonight at the Portal Hill location there was injustice of judgment of a Goodwill employee 's attitude and condescending treatment towards me .On most days I ensure my education meets my looks and i am treated with respect . I recently had a medical condition where I had to cut my hair short and do not feel great about the overall condition . I went to the Goodwill in an effort to cheer myself up. I was treated with severe disrespect by one of the ladies working on Sunday 11/28/21. During the incident of disrespect i had asked to utilize the restroom and was told that I had to go next door. Last week i was at the same location and in the same line I believed to be the fitting room i was informed that it was the line for the restroom . Myyyyyyyyyyy how a week oran outfit can change an employees judgement !!!! this employee is a severe disappointment to the overall concept of Goodwill..... and anyone should avoid this location unless prepared for judgment and a condescending attitude of the Goodwill employee. read more

For what I come here looking for, this is the best Goodwill I've found in the City. All the stores in town get some great donations to sell since the Central pricing and donation system doles out much of the donations city-wide and SF has some very wealthy (and close to very wealthy) folks who give Goodwill their once-pricy cast-offs in excellent condition. (How come it took nme almost 20 years of living in the City to realize that. Quality men's dress and casual shirts abound for around $6 each. If I look through the shirts, I will find 2-5 that I must have practically every time. Solid comfy cotton shirts. They often have interesting authentic or style conscious t-shirts, too. And a great selection of vintage and recent designer/department store high-quality neckties. Get there for the 50% Off all clothing and shoes sales and really get a wardrobe for nothing! Another area I always peruse are the housewares - dishes, kitchen items, decorative ceramics, etc. I found a vintage Greek teapot handmade in Rhodes, bought it for 5 bucks, then located a buyer in Cyprus who shelled out $85 US and a heck of a lot of shipping cost to get it there in one piece. Since then, I've found numerous Heath Ceramics pieces, incredibly priced brand new children's books (always seem to be many Newberry Medal and Honor winners among them), and every so often the electronics department houses a surprise or two: a vintage 50s electric fan for $5 - a $400 semi-commercial espresso machine for $12, and a $300 foot massager for $8. To top off the accolades, the staff are extremely helpful, friendly, fair and generous with great senses of humor. They are mostly women who have worked here or at other Goodwill locations for many years, but a couple of great guys work here also. All of them put up with untold amounts of grief from us customers with smiles and laughs and I've never seen or heard any of them complain in any way other than humorously. read more

I'm kind of scared to publish this review, since the secret has apparently been pretty well-kept, and I don't want to ruin it... but this is absolutely the best Goodwill in the city. Hands down. I used to live in the Haight and while the Goodwill on Cole ALWAYS has a really great selection of vintage women's coats... their slightly-higher prices seem to be geared towards the professional vintage/second-hand thrifters that flock to the Haight in droves. To that end, most everything there has already been picked through... If you're looking for anything other than a ladies' coat from the 50's or 60's though, you might be better served at some of the other haunts on the block. However!! I popped into the Goodwill in the Excelsior this afternoon and caught some amazing steals. (A sweet dress from the 80's, spring skirts from club monaco and banana republic, a BR military style jacket, and a denim skirt straight off of Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club!) Best part? NOTHING in my bag cost more than $6. For me, the search for hidden gems is what Goodwill is all about, and I found plenty here. I'm trying to live as low-budget as possible these days, but this store will definitely help curb my spending, while still satisfying the (seasonal) urge to revamp my wardrobe. read more

A Lesser known goodwill that is ripe for picking. For men this place is perfect for finding great dress shirts, and pants. Picked up some Ynes St. Laurent, Smith Williams, and Nordstrom dress shirts. Be sure to come on the 1/2 off days so the shirts are only $1.50 {---- PIMP SHIT. Just be sure to follow the three thrift store shopping steps to success. 1. Find the right style. 2. Sort out clothes that don't fit. 3. Check for stains. Simply follow steps and your on your way to thrift store heaven. Big Time. read more

Clothing here can be quite cheap for women as I've come to expect seeing as my SO spent at least one hundred bucks here. As for men, it can be a hit or miss. For books, they're mostly hardcover and not too many pocket or paperback books. They could really organize the electronic section. Everything is literally thrown in behind the glass case. The showroom is pretty dimly and the outside front area could use done TLC. All that aside, if you're looking for a deal and don't mind digging a bit, this a good place to check out and spend a nice afternoon at. read more

The Filipino ladies who work here though have real attitude problems and are total bitches (mostly to people who aren't fillipino) and probably wouldn't let you have a dance party there, and would call the fuzz. The selection at this store is always pretty good. But my review is for the staff - why are you so rude? I have been going to this goodwill for years, and within the last year it's changed a lot. Maybe new management? The store has gotten much more organized, I'll give them that, but beyond that things have only gone down hill in my opinion. The staff wants nothing to do with customers now! Ask them a question? You may get an eye roll, a grumpy huff, or just pain ignored. The staff doesn't want to help out at all, a few times recently I've found items I wanted that weren't priced. I've asked staff how much they cost and each time have been accused of removing the sticker price to get a cheaper deal. They are also super stingy now, the woman in front of me in line last time, wanted to purchase a mirror. The mirrors frame was broken and she asked if she could get a discount and purchase it at $8 instead of $12 and the woman behind the counter grabbed it out of her hand, put it behind the counter, and shouted "no discount! Next customer!!!" The woman looked confused (she never said she didn't want it, why was it yanked out of her hands!?) and she just walked out. This location is such a hidden gem. They have a great selection of clothes, shoes and especially household items! I have bought so many dish sets from here, it ain't even funny! They get donations daily, so you're bound to find something you need. Even though I no longer live in the neighborhood, I will hop the 49 in a San Francisco minute to check out the deals here. Just called Saturday 930am aug 19,2017 to say I needed to donate some items. The lady immediately said you need to call another store for pickup. I never said I wanted pick up and was planning on dropping off. She said you need to call another store we will only take 2 bags so call the San Francisco store they have a trailer. Basically this lady clearly did not want to accept any work today on her behalf! She basically said goodbye and hung up on me! That is very sad for people who rely on goodwill to purchase items on mission st location in Daly City to have this lady representing the store. read more

This is sort of a smaller goodwill, but it's fun for me to just stop by after I've bought groceries from the local mexican fruit market. You definitely have to dig a little but I've gotten some really sweet finds: a toile print lamp, a treasure chest style mini box, pillow cases and textiles to turn into other stuff, costume jewelry, etc. etc. I even got my halloween costume there! they try their best to retheme their windows and racks by season or holiday, so if you want some trinkety junk this is a great place to get it on the cheap. They've also got 2 or 3 bookcases full of used books running for around 4 bucks for hardcovers, 3 bucks for paperbacks, and on certain days they have specials on their books, etc. so like green tags are half off..your standard second hand store specials. since they're donated books usually you can find some popular titles. They also have numerous shelves and a dedicated section to houseware items, so if you want to collect a random assortment of wine glasses, mugs, or vases, there are a bunch here! There are two fitting rooms that the employees have to unlock for you, but the employees are super nice even though they look perpetually busy. read more

I don't know if it's that the hipsters haven't discovered this place yet, or aren't interested in J Crew & BR pants, dresses, shirts, etc, but there doesn't appear to be anyone else grabbing this stuff. I've also gotten a bunch of weekend casual clothing here, some killer boots, and some nice scarves that I've taken to my cleaner's to be sewn into infinity scarves. Good stuff. I love this location's goodwill- it's close to my house, it has great prices and actually great stock. It doesn't look like much from the outside but I always manage to find something that would be way more expensive at other stores and not to mention all the goodwills do the half off the color tags- score! I also love the staff- they always say hello and answer any questions I might have. They also get a lot of 'donations' from target to sell which is a plus. Can't beat it elsewhere! read more
