Inside there were a number of appealing items from vintage ties to china bric a brac and from books to home decor. In every corner was a potential collectible or cherished antique. We had fun browsing and my husband even found something to buy. It's either a unique gift for his cousin or he might keep it himself. The owner was quite personable. He mentioned that they do estate sales and removals. I commented on a number of small cat statues that they'd been given and he gave me the history behind them.

You can find Charity Thrift Store on Federal Highway in Delray Beach on Vintage Row where there are a umber of thrift, vintage, and antique stores. It is also across the street from the excellent Mattiello's House of Lasagna food truck which I recommend if you are in the area. Charity Thrift Store is huge! Maybe this was once a medical building? The rooms are marked as suites and there are so many to explore over 14,000 square feet. This place is like a maze. Each room has a category of items such as lamps, books, sports equipment, children's toys, home goods, clothes and accessories, CD's and VHS tapes, linens, pet items, furniture and so much more. They even have a boutique room with designer and name brand clothing and jewelry. Everything seemed very reasonably priced. My favorite item was a set of wooden doors that looked right out of a Mizner designed mansion. I saw one sign that says donations benefit Achievement Centers for Children and Families but another sign inside said they are a for profit company that does not support non profits except that they purchase items from non profits to sell here. I am still a little confused about their business model but either way this was a great discovery if you like to thrift as I do.

Bric a brac, housewares; electronics; china and glassware, office supplies, books, children books, toys, hats/scarves/bathing suits; golf and sports equipment; paintings; and a separate boutique of higher end stuff. The day we came all clothing was $5. So if you had the patience... I bought two small things under $2 each, but most things were more expensive. I'm glad we came. Now we know.

All the items are identified and tagged. They are displayed beautifully with spaces between so you can easily see each one. This place has so many intriguing and interesting things that it will definitely require another visit. Each time we looked at a different corner, we noticed something we'd missed the first time. There's lots of bric a brac, household decorations, art work, and China. There are valuable antique items mixed in, too. We stopped by enroute to lunch, so we didn't spend as long as we'd have liked to do so. But I did find one small item cute enough to take home with me. The gal working there was oh so pleasant and personable, too. This is the kind of place you need to visit often.

I picked up three blue bird figurines that were already on the floor, placed them in my basket, and before I could even turn around, an employee (I went back to secure her name) snatched them straight out of my hand and walked off to the back; no explanation, no apology, nothing. When I asked what was going on, manager George was at least polite, but his manager, Doris doubled down and told me they wouldn't be "bringing them out until tomorrow." Are you kidding me? You literally took items from a paying customer's basket -- items that were already on the sales floor -- and then refused to sell them? No attempt to make it right, no customer care, just rudeness and arrogance. It's one thing to pull items from the floor before customers touch them it's another to grab them out of someone's basket. Absolutely unacceptable behavior. If this is how this store treats paying customers, it says a lot about their management and training. I am attempted to never come back; but will definitely let others know to steer clear too. After years of coming here, I will never give them the satisfaction of never seeing me again. See you soon! The items were then given to the people who worked on them or resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. This was my first time visiting the Delray Beach location. It didn't seem as nice or have as big of a selection of items as some of the locations in Palm Beach. I have noticed that Goodwill has put all of their Christmas items out. I guess it is a Christmas in July type of event. If you are in need of holiday items now is a good time to grab them. Nothing for me here today but it was still fun hunting.

Since they formed in 2005, they have distributed 70 million pounds of food. RBI Thrift is located in the old Sears in Boynton Beach Mall. You enter from the outside, not from inside the mall. I discovered RBI while visiting Dillard's Clearance Center, also in the mall. One thing to note, there is no air conditioning. To their credit, the people who work here are somehow able to maintain a cheerful disposition despite the miserable heat. The store inventory is a mixture of new items donated by their corporate partners and used thrift items donated by the general public. I saw furniture, hone decor, plant and garden supplies, pet supplies, toys, kids clothing, art, shoes, sunglasses, accessories, bags, and beauty and drugstore supplies. Prices range from $1 to the several hundred dollars. I found a cute little rabbit dish from Pier One for only $2. I also purchased a brand new in the box microcurrent facial toning device and a microdermabrasion kit. Both were marked $10 but I only paid $5 each at checkout. They are both going for $50 all over the internet. I am excited to try them both out. If you enjoy bargain hunting I recommend checking out RBI where the proceeds go to a really great cause.
