Every year the Hibiscus house provides services to 1,800 children and families in St. Lucie and Indian River Counties. To pay for their programs, the Hibiscus House operates the Hibiscus Treasure House Thrift Shop located at the base of the Roosevelt Bridge. The 5,000 foot thrift store is run by volunteers. Inside you can find clothing, accessories, small appliances, furniture, household goods, toys, books, and collectibles. The sale of donations to Hibiscus Treasure House provides money for their programs as well as supplies the Hibiscus Children's Center's residential facilities with the items the children may need like clothing, baby items, furniture, toys, games, and movies. Families in need and children aging out of foster care can also obtain vouchers to shop at the thrift store. This was my first visit to this store and I was impressed by both the mission of this charity and the excellent store they run. I was able to fill a bag with toys for my classroom and holiday decorations for $7. When I was checking out I mentioned what I was purchasing the items for and they gave me an educator's discount. Please support this wonderful organization by donating your gently used items and by shopping here. They have their own truck to pick up your large furniture donations.

To fund their programs including a food pantry and job coach program, they operate several thrift stores including this one, as well as Hobe Sound and Indiantown. I was surprised by how large and nice this thrift store is. Several rooms are filled with seasonal decorations including a large area of Christmas decorations, household goods, small appliances, clothes, accessories, kids items, large selection of furniture, and books. Everything was arranged artfully to give the store a boutique feel. In addition to shopping at their support stores you can donate your items at the rear of the store as well as give your time as a volunteer. Information on how to volunteer, their programs, and events are listed on the House of Hope website. This is a wonderful organization that deserves all of the community support it can get.

One tall dark haired woman walked past me at least 4 times in the store but only spoke to my husband across the store a couple of times. I was very sad when I left the store. Fortunately I found this fabulous thrift store from the Jensen Beach Community Church just a few doors down. Proceeds from this thrift store supports the Shepherd's Pantry providing food for those in need, a meeting home for Al Anon, Alcoholic's Anonymous & Narcotic's Anonymous, Indiantown Boys & Girls Club, and Habitat for Humanity. This thrift store is large with two long rooms filled with furniture, small appliances, linens, household goods, holiday decorations, clothing, accessories, etc.. I absolutely fell in love with a 1920's prohibition era wooden vanity that is just waiting for the right person to restore it and bring it back to life. Proceeds from this thrift store goes to supporting a residential faith-based recovery program at homes they own, the food pantry across the street, and other community services. The gentleman who was working when I visited was friendly and welcoming. He offered to even show me things in the back that weren't on the sales floor. I had dun exploring the eclectic mix of reasonably priced items they had for sale which included china, wedding dresses, Le Creuset, and a bust of Abraham Lincoln. They sell furniture, household decor, clothes, accessories, and small appliances. Good Samaritan Ministries will happily accept your donations and there is a list on their website of items they are seeking. You can see them at work with the food pantry across the street. I love supporting non profits like this one who are positively impacting their communities.
