It is 528 and already the staff is asking us not to go into the dressing room rooms and it's time for us to go. I thought The closing time was 7 PM but I guess 528 is when they start getting rid of us

PLEASE TAKE DONATIONS INSIDE, area neighbours will thank you and your donations will go to good use.

Interested in donating? - PLEASE TAKE YOUR DONATIONS FULLY INSIDE using the donation drop off door closest to Schermerhorn street. If you require or would like assistance please only accept help from persons wearing all black with "security" badge jackets, they will help if your Uber/car/etc is parked directly in front on bond st. Pub-leeease DO NOT give your donations to the men or person who approach offering to "help" or who ask if you're donating before you've made even one trip inside. Sadly they are street vendors and ultimately your donations will no longer go to Goodwill or wherever you hoped, these persons will try to sell your intended donations on the sidewalk nearby for far more than goodwill would ever charge and they pocket the money, your donations are not sold for a greater good or redistributed to other stores in need, you will not get a tax write off slip, and the overwhelming majority of intercepted donations end up as trash (read waste; IN A LANDFILL) at night that area garbage men have to pick up by hand, and all the good intent and effort you had in donating is completely gone out the window, wasted, it will end in a landfill, and become an eyesore and health hazard as it houses critters and inclement weather in the process overnight. Please reference the included photos as proof and a plea from a neighbour to TAKE ALL DONATIONS INSIDE, each of these photos are taken on different nights left over from people who gave their stuff to randos on the sidewalk.

I don't know if it was beginners, luck or what but I found amazing things at this location. Someone on TikTok had made a list of thrift stores, and this was one of them. It was actually my first stop of the whole crawl. Upon entry, I wasn't expecting much because it was so clean lol. Everything was organized by color and nothing was on the floor. Once I started sifting through the racks, I was finding great pieces. I am 5' and 100 pounds, so it's rare that I find things that fit me well at thrift stores. To my surprise, I was able to find four pairs of pants, one top and a cardigan. See photos for reference. The only thing I wish I was better was the pricing. Each item had a colored tag, but there was no kind of price guide anywhere. There were a few signs like "tops starting at $7.99", etc. I asked one of the workers, and he looked at each item and told me how much it was, probably off the top of his head? By the time I got to the register I was like it's in God's hands. Luckily, my total was reasonable. Oh, they were also no hooks in the dressing room. A little inconvenient. I came with the intention to look for frames for my home. I didn't even get a chance to look at the home section because I was carrying so much clothing. Looking forward to coming back and checking out the rest of the store!

Be careful : business hours are at least 20 min shorter than posted ! Save your time or security won't let you in.

So easy to drop off no longer needed items and help the environment. Quick and easy and they give receipt for tax purposes.

When the manager acts extremely rude and not accommodating at all... Started screaming at this girl over the price of a jacket and made her cry. Manager kept saying over and over "I'm the manager, I make whatever prices I want" and then took the jacket the girl wanted and went around the store asking CUSTOMERS to stop what they were doing and "decide" if it was fair to call the item a 25$ Jacket vs a 15$ jacket while this girl is just literally sobbing (she was embarrassed? Something was hurting her over a jacket price? manager was being rude and mean to her?) I guess that's the downtown Brooklyn Goodwill for ya! Snapped a pic of the inappropriate manager names Sharon.

Today Housing Works Brooklyn was a win for me, jewelry-wise! The store is curated well- they have specials and bring those to the front to highlight. Today's special was dresses/special occasion, so all the sequins and floor length items were front and center! There were actually people sitting on the floor looking at records in the back room. I found that to be very sweet, like back in the day Barnes & Noble. Their jewelry selection is a great mix of crap and gems! Every tray is a different color and then everything is thrown into the tray. Get ready to dig! I had to search for an eating I found in the "red" tray... found the mate later in the "gold" tray. The prices are also all over the place- I got a brooch for $8 and one for $1. Who knows?! When I eventually checked out, the person behind the counter filled me in on everything Housing Works. They also print a quarterly pamphlet with events, specials and highlights for people/organizations they've helped. I felt good shopping here

I like this thrift shop…read more If you don't know, Out of the Closet was originally founded to help raise funds and awareness for AIDS Healthcare Foundation. To this day, when you shop or donate at Out of the Closet, 96 cents of every dollar made goes to AIDS Healthcare Foundation's HIV prevention and treatment services. That's why the walls are painted and there's signage indicating they have high-quality HIV testing services. Now you know. Solid mission, and it sounds like they are doing good work. It makes you feel a little better about spending your money here. Personally, I also like that they are better organized, and have a better selection (one non-hipster's opinion) than some of the competition in the general area, like Buffalo Exchange. There's a nice book section (I like to read!) funkier clothes (I'm not at a thrift store for basics), and the t-shirts are organized by color, as they should be. The prices are occasionally insane, at least from the perspective of someone who doesn't pay $150 for jeans ever, least of all at a thrift shop, but mostly they are pretty fair. If I have any problems, it's with the lady who spent a solid half hour in the only dressing room, seemingly just staring at herself in the mirror until I got completely fed up and knocked on the wall. That's not really the staff's fault, I guess. The staff is actually super nice in my limited experience, but can occasionally get distracted, and don't spend enough time making sure people don't stare at themselves in the mirror for half an hour.

First of all, whoever is curating the selection here has seriously excellent taste. I was just resigned to following my wife and several other members of her family on a tour of the neighborhood boutiques, and I couldn't help but be intrigued immediately. The shop is MUCH larger than it looks from the street, and it houses an eclectic and funky mix of furniture, artwork, footwear, knicknacks,, jewelry, mugs, home decor...not just women's clothing, as you find at many shops. Basically, there was a lot for me to check out as my wife perused (and bought from) the clothing racks. There's also a $5 rack, which anyone can get down with. And when you finally get bored because your wife is much slower than you are, they have a very comfortable couch (for sale) and an original Nintendo (not for sale, for play) hooked up to the flatscreen on the wall. BRILLIANT. Yes, I did play the first Super Mario Bros until I was dragged out. No, I only made it to 8-2. Yes, I'm losing my touch. Yes, Unearth is the spot.
