This Goodwill location is full of a large variety of items. It is organized well and the sections are easy to navigate. The staff is friendly and helpful which I appreciate. I definitely recommend coming to this location to find some great items.

08/2024 - HIGH PRICES - anything with a semblance of a brand name gets marked up. Better deals on the internet with the latest price hikes at this GW. Sad, this used to be a fave thrift shop of ours.

Two piece formal wear. You'd think I was shopping at Famous Barr.......

Uh, I don't know who does the pricing here but they must be high because the prices at this particular Goodwill are borderline exploitive. $50?!?! FIFTY DOLLARS?!?! For a used two piece that was donated? for free. Do better, Goodwill Overland Park. This is super gross and predatory.

The line just for drop of! Insane 16 cars!!

Although, I think they have already accomplished that from the other reviews. But, I wanted to make these reviews so the people who fall victim to their scam and unfathomable greed. Walking around we just saw predominately elderly shoppers. They have their items priced erratically. Remember that old raggedy 2000 jacket from old navy your mom bought you that you never wore so you threw it in the back of your closet and it grew it's own habit and ecosystem? Your mom bought it for 12.99 back in 2000, but now with its chic mold and living creatures and a few holes from the moths, at City Thrift they charge 19.99 not 20 but 19.99, cause if it ends in .99 it's a DEAL! We spent an hour playing, "guess the price". Probably the spookiest game since the Ouija. This place preys on the elderly, preys on the less fortunate. You could go to Walmart and buy 4 items for the price of one of theirs. This isn't a "vintage" store. This is a sham. I put every item I wanted back. Also, there's zero mirrors. No fitting rooms. They want you to buy it and be stuck with it. This isn't a store that cares about customers. This is a store of an owner with a poor business model and probably a grumpy ego. I may have put my other stuff back, but I found a duck okay? I wanted the duck. I needed this duck. Hate to give this place any money but, it was priced at 3.99, I could muster up 3.99 and save the duck. This little guy had a goodwill sticker that said 2.99. But... wait... when we went to the register, their sticker was magically gone. I asked how much they the duck was. Already wondering how much I'd squander for this poor duck. They debated whether to charge me what was already priced by goodwill (that they scribbled out) or up charge me...... Literally a preposterous suggestion. After walking an hour through this ghastly place and playing "guess the price" and trying to up charge me for my sweet duck sent me over the edge. I asked them, "how do you even pick prices for stuff?" She said, "we charge half of the retail price" Then I asked, what about the pitiable 2000 sweaters from 24 years ago? How do you know that retail price today? And how can you charge half for something two decades old? It's not vintage...it's someone's trash at this point. They had no answers. They must know the insanity behind the business model... I've attached some fun photos for yall to browse. You may need to put some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to dilute the spookies you're about to see.

They have an amazing selection and are really good about having the latest new releases (including video games and DVDs) in stock. Sometimes you have to wait a bit until your hold comes up in the queue, but that is to be as expected. Additionally, the wifi is great and there's always a place to sit. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by a young teen volunteer. She had asked if the children had gotten their free summer book. So they picked out a sticker and a book for their appropriate age. She was a very nice young lady and the kids enjoyed picking out a book. Then we asked the main librarian for the kids section was located. We went to that area and I was a little disappointed that they did not have more activities for children. They had a table with three puzzles. They also had a small wall for toddlers that had some things to do. They had a decent collection of children's books and I picked out some toddler board books to check out. They had some armchairs for parents to read to their children. It's not a particularly large library, but it's good for the area. The front librarian was OK and her attitude, but the children's librarian had an attitude. She had her face covered by a large black mask, and even with that on, you can smile with your eyes. She did not do that and never spoke to any families. Also, she had an activism T-shirt on, and her attitude went with it. I don't know why all of these Johnson County libraries are determined to hire children's librarians that have unwelcoming attitudes. It is a real turn off. I have only one more library left to review and that is in Gardner.

I have such mixed things to say about this place. The best of it is the community of residents, the…read moresupport staff, and the relatively pretty, park-like surroundings, which is mostly lawn, but does include a little pocket of shade and a flower garden. There are a lot of selling points that aren't there. The "gym" is a cold, dark room with a table full of free weights and an elliptical machine that few can use, and the group exercise consists of, one day a week, having someone on staff turn on a TV in a common room and tune in to a broadcast chair exercise program. The "library" is a cold room with people's book discards and a lot of proselyting material. The library and the gym both are sealed off by very heavy fire doors, with difficult access for someone using a wheelchair or a walker. Meals are constructions of ultra-processed foods, with too much fat and salt, and all of the vegetables seem to come from cans. If you like tater tot casserole, you will thrive here. The best "activities" include weekly Spark meetings, two movies, "show-and-tell" programs in which residents give presentations in their areas of expertise; and then there are also calendar-filling things like hand massages. You never see an Armour Oaks van taking residents to the art museum, the Kauffman garden, or any play, lecture, or concert, but there is a weekly trip to Wal-mart. There is an on-site salon that charges extra if you have hair that is not naturally straight. There is a bingo game, a few card games, and a communal jigsaw puzzle. There is no dietitian, no group exercise options other than that one day each week in front of the TV. My parent has lived there for a while. It hadn't been on the top of our list of places to move to after the first time we toured, when the building reeked of sewer gas which the woman showing us an available apartment claimed was simply coming up through the foundation and then she deflected blame onto the city. At the time, we were told that there were more than 10 available apartments, but the one we were shown had been empty long enough for the water to have completely evaporated from the toilet bowl (the source of the sewer odor), but not long enough for AO to have cleaned the last tenant's food from the freezer. We returned for another look after hearing that a new building manager had been hired and was running the place with competence and integrity. That person has since been removed, as was the person who used to be in charge of dining before the age of the tater tot casserole.
