I am a fan of this Goodwill Connect Store, formerly known as Goodwill Select Store. I believe the name change was recent. But select store got more desirable merchandise than just simple Goodwill stores. The reason I came here was because I am looking for some better-quality thrift items. Royal Oaks is a higher-end neighborhood. Since donations are from this area, the merchandise would be much better. I was looking to buy a couple of plaid shirts to match up with my brother's attire for an upcoming family reunion. I noticed one thing about this store, not just the stuff on the racks but the fabulous customers. They are very diverse compared to the ones nearby house. I feel more comfortable shopping here because there was no fighting or shouting involved. Everyone seemed to mind their own business. I even had a nice conversation with an older black lady asking for my opinion. She wanted a chair to do exercises sitting down. It was a really nice chair. She took one and there was another one left. I didn't want to get it because my hand was full. I bought a nice hardwood foot stool. I got so many compliments for getting it. Yeah. There was so many nicer furniture at this Goodwill Store. I wish I had a bigger house to replace some of mine from here. Most of the store was for women's clothes. Somehow, I found men's shorts in women's sections, and vice versa. The store's air conditioning was working wonderfully. It took me about an hour to look through the semi-organized racks at men's section. I couldn't find one that would fit me. But of course, I will be back and continue searching for that perfect shirt. read more

This Goodwill is hands downs one of the best I've been too! First off the staff here alone are AMAZING...they are happy to work here...I've never seen staff be so happy to work anywhere! They were polite, professional, personable and just dam right happy! The "boutique" section is fairly large...about 4 racks maybe a few more majority of the items were 12.99 for Zara, free the people, Talbots, express, lululemon. I appreciate the boutique racks lots of great finds! I've found other great find throughout the store as it's jammed packed with items with them even bringing out more. Get ready to spend a few hours here you will not be leaving empty handed I promise! read more

The lady cashiers are rude and have no patience. They really don't want to be there or act like it. You ask a question and seems like such an effort from them to answer. They get annoyed. They have no customer service. I don't understand why they dont look for another job if they hate being there. Always bad experience. read more

The workers here are super friendly and the store is always pretty filled with items they roll out regularly. My only gripe is that the parking lot is so tiny and it gets filled at all hours of the day. So you have to park on street sometimes. Seems like the entire city wants to Thrift here because its "River Oaks", so it can become claustrophobically crowded at times. Very hit or miss when i comes to treasure finds though. read more

I had higher hopes for this Goodwill, but it really fell short. The items were overpriced for the condition they were in--most were worn out and not well-maintained. It's not the place to find any hidden treasures, just hidden dirt. On the plus side, the workers were nice and helpful, which is the only reason I'm giving two stars. I go to this location a lot because it's one of their bigger stores. It's usually organized pretty well and the staff is always friendly and checking up on customers to make sure we don't need any assistance. I also appreciate how they have placed up plexiglass around the checkout counter to protect their employees and customers during this on-going pandemic. However, I'm a bit disappointed that their dressing rooms are closed right now. I get that there's a pandemic going on but I've been in plenty of stores that allow their customers to try on clothing right now. Plus, public restrooms are open everywhere so I don't see the need for them to close these off. I purchased a few items without the ability to try them on and they do not fit... I am unable to return them due to their return policy. I will be a LOT more careful when purchasing in the future until they open their dressing rooms back up. Much better than Badwill. Somewhat better than Okwill. Will asked me how good this place is. I was like, it's good, Will. It's good, I like it. I've gotten lots of sexy clothes there, and some workout clothes. Not as much men's clothes as women's. Charity shops are a wonderful idea anyway, and I like that this one is not affiliated with any religion. I have gotten a lot of good clothes over the years from charity shops, including a couple of items from this place near my house in Houston. read more

I absolutely hate taking anything to Houston Goodwill stores. The help always seem overworked, exhausted and miserable. They are reluctant to help you unload your vehicle and will come up with any possible excuse. During a recent move we brought over bagfulls and boxes full of belongings that were not crap. We never asked for a receipt yet practically had to beg for help unloading our car. At 72 that's not always easy for me. I'd rather give it to the garbage men than go to Goodwill. read more

I must be coming on the wrong days at the wrong time or something. This store used to be a .99 cent store before it's transformation. In fact somebody correct me but I think it might have been an Academy before this as well. The days that I come here there seem to be lots of things thrown around, prices creeping up and still hard to find parking. There are about 30 parking spaces, take away a dozen for the employees. The cashiers here are at least always friendly. They don't seem to carry a lot of the artificial trees and foliage that I always look around for but it's ok, I always know where to go when I need to get an "emergency" shirt for work when I used to be in the "industry". read more

Clothes had accumulated in bags and in corners of rooms long enough that finally one morning I decided it was time to donate them where they could help others. Doing something unselfishly nice for others would have made my dad happy, especially in a difficult time just weeks after his untimely death. Based on a google this was the closest location I could give stuff away so I packed up the car and drove over. I was told by other people that the Goodwill has people that unload your car and do all the work for you. Well, that's a filthy lie. I had to unload the entire car by myself. Multiple boxes and heavy bags. There was no wheely cart thing around to load on so I just put it on the cement which ended up blocking off an entire parking space, to fully illustrate the amount of stuff I am unloading and the amount of time I am doing this all on my own. Then I walked into the store to get someone to come get it from there and give me a receipt, otherwise I was just going to drive off with no receipt and it would look like the Wheeler underpass camp at that point as it was all just essentially free to a good home. Finally a guy came out from the deep back of the "store" to load up his wheely cart and get me the receipt printed. Within hours of dropping this stuff off here I picked up the flu and was bedridden for three weeks so I am blaming the Typhoid Mary that gave me the receipt. I have had much better donating experiences over the years where I didn't even need to leave the car and nobody gave me a serious illness. But hopefully the clothes help a family in dire need (not an upper middle class white person "thrifting" because they want to get some upboats on plebbit) and Typhoid Mary didn't infect anyone else that day. read more

I've read the other reviews on this Particular Goodwill location and although I may agree that sometimes if you're having bad luck he will run into a disgruntled employee but for the most part almost every single person I know from visiting so often there is genuinely a kind person and a nice person so if you get something other than that chances are they've been overworked and under appreciated. I have to say I've gotten some incredible things at the store includingExact same vacuum my mom just paid $220 on Amazon for I got for $15 last week, just one example I have some of the great luck I've had here. Really unfortunately rude staff - I was purchasing clothing for an organization over quarantine, since there were no dressing rooms, I would take the clothes and return whatever I could. I was coming in weekly, which was a lot, to try and exchange items. Finally, a clerk at the front told me I could just get store credit instead so I wouldn't have to rush in every week to try and exchange everything even when item weren't working. This happened on 4 different occasions, I ended up having $100+ in store credit. Never once did anyone tell me that the store credit expires after 30 days. It is not written on the receipt, nor anywhere in the store, nor anywhere online with Goodwill. When I explained this when I tried to then use an "expired" credit, the Manager at the front told me "Nobody at my store told you that. They all know." I have never shopped at any other Goodwill locations. I was told by 2 different employees, behind a register, that I could just get store credit and use whenever I wanted. I was baffled that the manager snapped back at me completely shutting down a very real conversation that happened. When I left the store, a gentleman outside actually stopped me and asked me what happened and if he could get my contact information because he wanted to report the Manager and he had just had an unpleasant interaction with her as well. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but with an organization like Goodwill hoping for the better good of peoples lives you would hope for a bit more. read more

It is good this store is open 7 days a week. The selection is constantly changing. But the parking is very limited and side street options are not great. I actually prefer Charity Guild of Catholic Women on Lovett for clean, fresh, up to date apparel (childrens clothing, especially!), great prices, and easy parking. It is fun to find womens and mens clothing in very good condition for a price far below regular stores. read more

Simply put this is by far the cleanest and best selection Goodwill I have ever been to. The staff is very kind and helpful. If I had to say any cons it would be maybe not the biggest inventory of clothes but still a 5 star store no doubt. Glad I live in the area. I will continue to donate and shop here. Because they are independently owned and opera now... like franchise. So there is benefit to someone getting rich! It's no longer about the community and helping people out! Yes they do help some people get jobs and I commend them for that part but they ask wayyyy too much for free donated clothing. It's a messed up system now. read more

As much as I hate Goodwill and all of their sketchy practices, I wanted to see what a Goodwill in Houston had to offer. Found a practically new aeropress for $2, my favorite board game for not much more, a few vintage-y dresses, and a huge book selection! They had a few racks of presumably "nicer" clothing for much higher prices-- I guess this is what made it Select? Not sure. My main issue was that they were not controlling the number of people entering, and with only two cashiers checking people out, the line was backed up halfway across the store. Came here looking for whacky art car ball costume stuff, along with a new basket for my bike. Instead, I found racks and racks and racks of everyday clothes. They did have a small section of sports stuff, like skis, basketballs, tennis rackets and golf clubs. I'll be back to find the right set of clubs. Why the three stars? For a River Oaks location, they definitely didn't have any designer duds I was hoping to find, the kind of stuff Good Will Memorial seems to have. So...everyone complains that we don't have a H&M store in Houston, while for the past half year, I've been finding some cute pieces at Goodwill. I've kept it to myself, but really, who shops at thrift stores anyway, right? Oh! Me...occasionally. Do you care? Well, you should. In fact, you really should have been shopping at Goodwill since roughly the 80s. You know how trends cycle back around? Yep. You buy something, which turn into many things cluttering up your armoire, closet, and bureau drawers. You sort these clothes into piles, then take half of them to Goodwill or Salvation Army. One or ten years later, you're buying a very similar wide belt, "father's button down plaid shirt," leggings, and flats. I suggest first checking Goodwill for that shirt or wide belt. Beyond costume pieces and odds and ends, I've bought the following brands in the past half year from this location: Odille (Anthropologie line), H&M, Banana Republic, J Crew, and Lord & Taylor. After sifting through many Walmart, Target, and Sears brands, I have found the classic gems. I also channel my inner DIY deconstructionist/fashion designer here. Someone once told me and a classroom of History of Theatre for Studio Art Majors that trends are simple enough to start. (Think Arlo Guthrie and Alice's Restaurant here.) One person wearing a style or saying a phrase is a weirdo. Two people are a weirdo and a stalker. Three people? A super secret cool person trend. That's right. She said that after you see a clothing, food, or terminology fad three times, it becomes "validated" as cool...and socially acceptable. For the most part, she is correct. I mention this tidbit because sometimes everyone needs to channel their inner Andie (er, Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink). read more

I was looking for Halloween costume ideas so I decided to check out the closest goodwill. I must admit I haven't been to a goodwill in a LONG time. I really forgot what to expect. When I walked in I was very surprised. It looked like a CLEANER and NICER version of Marshall's. I ended up actually looking for clothes to wear. After looking through the men's racks I actually found 2 Ralph Lauren Polos. They were in prestine condition. For 6 bucks it was a steal! The employees here are wonderful. Why is goodwill gone up in prices and even spending alot of money there. They have been asking for veterans money extra .I see how some items have prices from original store and there charging 3.oo less it's just not like before old shoes smelly nukes and brand names for 12.oo shoes should be thrown in trash .and why are they charging every item like small candles for 3.99 I'm speechless. This is a nice clean store. I always enjoy the sixty's music while I'm in the store, so do most customers (every one is singing along). Go with an open mind and you will find something you like, if im looking for a specific item I usually don't find it. The property is lacking adequate parking, but someone is always arriving and/or leaving. If it wasn't for the parking it would be a 5 star review. read more

I love Goodwill and am always on the hunt for a hidden gem so I was very excited to get in this location. Let me preface this with the fact the store was so packed and it was a little after 5 on a work day. There were only small handheld baskets but after I dove headfirst into the stuff, I needed a regular basket but didn't quit looking at the merchandise. The sweet lady working at the front literally walked away from what she was doing and found me a basket..... let me also say that she had been there since like 7am.... almost 12 hours and she was still the most pleasant person in retail I've ran across in a LONG time. THEN she walked me to the back of the store to show me where the rompers are found. I soon realized I left my wallet at home and she was so sweet, she was leaving but placed all my things in the hands of another lady and she would have waiting for me, much to my surprise, she did. My new friends name is Becky and I will return because of her and the amazing things they have. Harvey is the manager I spoke with about Becky and he was just as nice. Every employee there was pleasant. Oh! The clothes, shoes etc..... SHOES FOR DAYS! Nice shoes and they're reasonably priced. This review is mainly for their customer service. Each time I come by to drop off one, two, or even four bags of things and a lamp (or some furniture), they are so helpful in the donation pull-up area! Before I exit my car, they are at my side as I pop the trunk and unlock the back doors. Sometimes, they will even take the items inside for me, and I don't have to get out of the car. Other times, I have had to grab my bag (or bags) and walk up to the door. I don't think I've ever even had to wait a minute before someone approaching me. They do a great job of treating their customers well and paying attention to who comes into their store. I'm a fan. read more
