Attention donors and goodwill manager: I'm pretty sure some people give to Goodwill to feel good about helping people in need. My friend is moving out of Houston. So, to help her, I offered to take her stuff to Goodwill. She had mostly lightly worn, prestigious brands clothes, shoes and other items. At least 1/3 of her donation was unused items with the tags attached . . fine blouses and jackets that she paid up to $79 for them. I swear I thought the Goodwill employee was deaf, because I asked him if he could help me unload the trunk of my car and he didn't respond, but helped me grudgingly. He didn't great me, or made eye contact, he was so rude! He unloaded my packed car, and didn't even say the usual have a nice day, or thank you. I had the exact same experience at the Westheimer/Shepherd and the I10/beltway 8 location. Maybe Goodwill is trying to employ mentally ill people. But they should put nicer people to deal with donors! I should have taken this donation where it would be appreciated and put to good use, like the salvation army on Washington Ave. I will never again take any donations to Goodwill. And my friends on social media, who donate regularly like I do, will know what happened today. It just so happen that as I was getting back in my car, I heard the rude employee speak without any difficulty. The rude man made me feel as if I was bothering him with work that he didn't want to do! I don't care to help people who won't help themselves! He is doing himself and Goodwill a disservice. Hopefully, Goodwill will put him out of his misery and let him go ASAP. There are so many people wanting a job and willing to earn their salary. This rude man's job should go to one of them!!!! read more

At the Goodwill store on 20th St. today shoppers can find the entire store reconfigured, with few categories in the same place as before. But worse than that, the store had huge sections completely or nearly empty. There is no shortage of donations at that location, so the skimpy amount of merchandise available makes no sense at all. Don't bother to try that location. read more

Great place to donate clothes and other miscellaneous items you want to get rid of but not throw away. I've come here a few times now and the guys at the drop off center have been super helpful and readily available to come out and help you bring your donated stuff inside. Once your stuff is brought in its processed very quickly and and they issue you a tax receipt. The Goodwill store itself it fairly big and there is a ton of clothes and great finds available for purchase!! read more

I am the Goodwill Queen and I loathe this store. It's disgusting, sorted by color versus size, there is no rhyme or reason as to why/where things are placed, and I feel like I'm going to be abducted merely browsing the aisles. Ive never found any of my favorite designers in here and I've given this store 3-4 chances... and now we are striking out. Goodbye GW Houston. read more

I shop here all the time. The people who work here are some of the rudest, most unpleasant people. My 96 year old friend had to go to the bathroom and the boys working there would not move the boxes away from the door to the men's room. Just about every single person working there are rude and some are just mean. read more

My niece loves to go "thrifting". We have visited this Goodwill a couple of times. The facility is relatively clean and we always find something great for a low price. Sometimes the workers could be a little nicer. The clothes are clean but we still always take our purchases home and wash them. $2 t-shirts! I should just end my review with that. Cheap clothes and some good finds, what more could you ask for? It's fun to see the shirts that have ended up here. Left over giveaway shirts from Rockets games, Office fun runs from 2008, a homemade blue barracuda shirt from Legends of the Hidden Temple. I've seen them all. One sad note is because its random and first come first serve the selection at times can be difficult in terms of sizes. I've found some cool t-shirts that turn out they were XL. I wish I could be rockin' that sweet Montreal Expos shirt I saw last week, but sadly no. But at the same time, make sure you actually look at the shirt. I picked up one that said it was XL but clearly was an M. Not often this will happen since it was printed on the shirt but you never know. Outside of clothing it has some furniture, TVs, books, movies, lamps, vacuums, art, etc. The selection might not be huge but it's something. I got a nice wood bookshelf for $15 yesterday and a few weeks back a nice little table. With a little TLC it will become a sweet bedside table. Again, the $2 t-shirts are a great deal. Whether to wear them to bed, work out at the gym, work on a painting, tear into rags, fighting off dragons, or just everyday exploring. I can't go wrong...unless they're too big (that's what she said). read more

I love thrift-store shopping. Unfortunately, a lot of the Goodwill stores I been to have been crappy. This, dear friends, is not one of them! I bought a gorgeous white, soft-leather PRADA purse for $25. Clean lining and close-to-new condition. I think a tear fell from my eye as I clutched it's smooth body up against me. The sales clerk hand to un-clamp my fingers from the bag just to ring me up. I found love in the form of a hobo-bag and wasn't going to let anyone take it from me. Also scored some other cute purses in various shapes and sizes. On my next visit, found a new-ish laptop messenger bag for the bf, only 12 bucks, that was very clean and professional looking filled with useful hidden pockets and compartments. Then I tried on a pink & black EXPRESS wrap dress that was quite flattering, feminine, and flirty. So much so, I paid for it and left the store, refusing to take it off. They also have a decent selection of furniture and housewares. read more

I'm cheap. Like really cheap. But ohhh how I love to shop. Its cathartic. Healing. I head to a consignment/thrift shop so I can feel better about my horrible thoughts of running that jerk I just had an altercation with over with my car. Trust me, he deserves it. I remember when this was a 99 cent store. It was always very dingy and gross, with the shadiest characters I've seen traipsing around this area. I was pleasantly surprised when this Goodwill took over and made it look all shiny and what not. Not that the appearance of every Goodwill is telling of what you will find inside, but it was nice to walk into a clean location without that noise hair curling smell. There is a great selection here, they take the extra time to sort by color. Quality merch at an affordable price. People of Westheimer, you're lucky. I will be less likely to want to punch you in the face after spending $10 and feeling like a million. read more

I think Goodwill knows that people are flocking to this location for the brand-name pieces that you can find because the prices are more expensive than other Goodwills! I went to two different one last friday and for example, the price for a dress is a $3 difference! The other one I visited wasn't even that far away; it was in the Memorial area near Memorial City Mall. So, be aware! I think thrifting is fun and exciting when you find bargains but with $10 for a dress, you can find deals like this at outlet stores now (and the clothes are brand spanking new!). I love this location too, but being a college student who is always budgeting, the prices here aren't screaming for me to come. Granted, you can be lucky to find designer items, but that is not a frequent experience. In a nutsell, don't be fooled by the "Goodwill Illusion". read more

Move over Goodwill because Deseret Industries has come to town, FINALLY! Goodwill, if you want to see how a thrift/resale store is managed, send your staff over to Deseret Industries Thrift Store in Houston on FM 1960. It puts your stores to shame...and that in itself, is a shame. If your stores removed all the broken, soiled, or unusable items on your shelves there might be room for some organization, price reductions and more business for you. You over price items that didn't sell at garage sales at garage sale prices, you mark them up hence you have stores full of overpriced, left overs. Suggestion: Clean your stores, organize your shelves and your clothing racks, rid the broken items, the soiled and torn items, price accordingly or you will very soon be put out of business by Deseret Industries. They know how to run a resale business and it shows. Go see for yourself and make improvements, Please!! read more

So, you would think that the selections here would be better & that they would have more high end name brands. But, no. Not the case. Yep, major disappointment. Honestly, the worst GW I've ever been to. I love thrifting and do so at least twice a week. This store was very chaotic. No method to the madness. Home decor and housewares were just thrown on top of aisles of clothing. Shoes were the same way. It was very difficult to maneuver. Didn't seem like anything had a designated spot. The saving grace was the lady working the cash register. She was upbeat and bright! Definitely made my trip worth it. read more

This is the best goodwill in town for women's clothing because all the rich River Oaks ladies donate here. The dress selection is awesome. The only beef is they need more parking but you can always park on the street. read more

1) Be prepared to do some heavy-duty browsing to find items. After all, it is a thrift store. If you don't like looking for stuff, then maybe you should head to your nearest department store. 2) Lots of good brands, and brand new stuff on the racks. I found a pair of BCBG shorts with the $138 price tag still attached, got it for $6. 3) Still think lots of items are way too over-priced for it to be great buy. For example, shirts are $6 and dresses are $10. I can find brand-new items for this price at my local Ross and TJ Maxx. The only way it's worth it is if I find a designer item read more

Very nicely organized store. Not your typical thrift store! There are a good amount of brand name clothing I saw: Banana Republic, Gap, Ralph Lauren. There is a boutique section to the left of the store that's reserved for brand name clothes, however I saw several name brand items mistakenly placed throughout the store. I saw a pair of Rock and Republic which looked good for $7 however I didn't purchase them since they are not my style. I mean sure, I could have bought it and put it on ebay but I'd rather not deal with the hassel of that. I found a pair of Juicy denim for $7 that fit perfectly. Usually I wouldn't pay so much for thrifted jeans, but they fit very well and were in good condition. Thank you Goodwill! The workers are very nice as well. read more

It seems that this place is no longer a secret. I recently made a trip here based on great reviews from Yelpers and non-Yelper friends. One stylish female friend told me she's gotten some of her best deals - designer duds at a fraction of a price and good-quality vintage pieces - from here. I stayed in the women's clothing section. Racks of clothes are organized by item (blazers, knits, shirts, tees, etc.) and color. Signs at the rack ends denote prices, while tags on the items indicate size. On top of the racks are shoes and at the rack ends hang belts and bags. Everything is neat and orderly. There is certainly plenty from which to choose. Most of the brands I saw were Old Navy, Gap, Ann Taylor, and fast fashion mainstays. I'm pretty picky about what I'm adding to my closet these days and didn't find anything I loved of the quality I desire so didn't pick up anything during this browsing expedition, but it seems like a good place to include in your thrifting rounds. read more

I made the mistaken assumption that being near River Oaks that this Goodwill would have some good pickings. Eewww! This is, by far, the worst Goodwill I have ever been to. The shoes - really?! - awful and beyond worn out. They were just garbage beyond any kind of repair. And the clothes also were so incredibly worn out. Again, the worst Goodwill ever. read more

Great location to find basic lightly used work attire. I have referred many people on a tight budget to this store. Since it is in River Oaks they do have a nice selection of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Gap, and J Crew.Everything is super organized and sectioned by color. I have seen tons of items here with the price tag still on it. It's always fun to thumb through the clothes to see what kind of wacky stuff you can find for costumes. The customer service here is on point. They usually have a staff member waiting for drop offs. A few times I didn't even have to get out of my car. They grabbed my bags from the trunk and I was off and on with my day. read more

Rolled in to grab some shorts for the kids, spring time! This place is pretty big, bigger than I expected. I appreciated the signage, we were able to go directly to the kids section, no delays. They had a good selection of kids clothes and toys, boy did the kids like that part. The dressing rooms were very large, almost too big. The store was very clean and organized. We got several pairs of shorts, jeans and pj's for all 3 kids for less than $40. Even got some designer kids clothes. Now that is a shopping trip done right! Did not have a chance to check the other parts of store out, so will be back another day to check things out with kids. read more

Great selection of clothes, shoes, and other items. Saturday's are BUSY and it's hard to get around all the people when you want to take time and find treasures. I found a brand new pair of black heels, some brand new Gap t-shirts with the tags still on them, and a pair of brand new Gap jeans. It's in a nice part of Houston so I can see how rich people might bring their "junk" here and people like me will see it as a treasure! Friendly and helpful employees too. read more

This goodwill is awesome. Although I haven't really checked out their clothing, they have a good selection of furniture and it turns over very quickly. I recently went in on a Sunday to look for new apartment furniture. After scoping out other thrift shops, we tried goodwill. We found an awesome pair of bar chairs for $20. I went on the O when we got home and the same chairs were $100! With that said, for furniture definitely go on the weekend when people are actively donating. I've only been inside twice (once to drop some stuff off), but both times I've been pleasantly surprised. This place is large, spacious and always clean and tidy. Employees have always been helpful and courteous, and of course, you can't beat the prices. Hubbs and I came here recently to go "ugly sweater" shopping for an ugly sweater party coming up. I actually found a nice Christmas green Banana Republic sweater (in great condition) for $6. We also got an unopened Ikea picture frame (holding 5 5"x7" pictures) for about $6 as well. What a deal! I will definitely come back for more picture frame finds (and hopefully score another great sweater deal)! read more

Well, this is certainly the nicest Goodwill I've ever seen -- which makes sense, given that it's the River Oaks location (okay, so it's technically in Montrose). Still, I was disappointed upon my visit. The sheer volume of clothing is completely overwhelming, for starters, plus as noted the place has been "discovered" and is thus packed (or at least on a recent Saturday afternoon). I was on a mission for men's suits, which they had virtually none of, but I did happen to notice a few good bargains on the ladies' side: a Kate Spade purse in perfect condition for $10, and a gorgeous pair of dressy Stuart Weitzman pumps for about $15. (No $10 Louboutins, alas.) Anyway, I think this place has a lot more to offer for the gals than the guys, and be sure to note the "boutique" section up front, which is where they appear to carry most of their nicest merchandise on hand. read more

I love this store. I find it hard to believe the comments where it says the employees are rude. I've been coming here weekly for years and know all the employees by their name and everything. The people here are extremely nice. Not rude at all. The manager Harvey is the best too. Yes the lines back up far but what do you expect from a busy store? That's silly to rate them low because if long lines. I don't like how they recently made there prices higher. I enjoyed buying lululemon, madewell and everlane for cheap, now they made those brands and more higher and put them in their fancy section. I think goodwill should stick to low prices and not make them higher. A lot of people shop here because they are struggling to make money and they still deserve nice clothes. It's not fair(in my opinion) to raise the prices. But anyways, I love the store as a whole. Employees and great, clean store and love that they have a police officer there at all times. I feel a lot safer here then the other good wills. read more

If this location seems familiar -- well its cause you used to come here for the 99cent Everything store! I mean, as Goodwill stores go, this isn't anything that would surprise you, but I'm just happy that they jumped on this location and replaced a great dollar store with a thrift shop instead of something expensive. My only gripe is that their book shelves are a bit flimsy and I don't like the fact they have wire shelves. Other than that, it got what all goodwill prices at the usual prices. That said, relative to a lot of the other thrift shops in the Montrose area, this store does stand out in that its hours are open quite a bit later (till 7 or 8pm) and it is also open on Sundays! read more

I'm moving soon so I thought I would pop in to see if I could find any home accessories. Five minutes later, I scored a large sofa size painting for $10, a beautiful mirrored vase for $5 and a bunny head pinata for $4 (Random, I know.) I wasn't out looking for clothes or shoes, but nothing caught my eye either. Seems to have its treasures if you're willing to hunt or if you're lucky and come across something as soon as they put it out. I will be back. :) read more

I can find anything wrong with a Cole-Haan hand bag in GREAT condition for $25. Yep I said it $25! I strolled in here on a Saturday afternoon looking for some great candle stick holders that I could revamp. I wandered around for in the section where all the home goods are kept and I found two really great holders. One brass and the other wooden. They were beautiful and so was the price. The larger wooden one was $4.99 and the smaller brass $3.99. Beat that Marshall's, HA! On my way to the register I saw this bright yellow patten leather bag and I became curious. So I just wanted to touch it, feel the quality and find out who made this bag. Its was Cole-Haan....I SAID COLE-HAAN!!! I couldn't pass it up. I think this purse was meant for me. Along with my great finds they have other great treasures as well you just have to look with a creative mind. The staff was helpful, the store was really clean and organized and knowing that my purchase here is helping the less fortunate warmed my little name brand heart! read more

DO NOT come on a weekend . It's a madhouse in there ! You'd think it's the only GW store in town! Lines to the back of the store like Black Friday . Stay far away! They don't have anything better than any of the other locations in rougher parts of town. Way too many people and way too few parking spots = a big headache! Worst GW in town imo as far as overcrowding goes . They need to open a larger store if they are going to draw crowds that cause the line to go to the back of the store . It's not safe to have that many people in such a small area. Also, for men's shoes they have mainly sizes 11 and up. Not much variety there. Avoid ! read more

Really bummer of a goodwill. First off its small for my goodwill standards. Its in a busier bustly part of town so this play should have much more floor space. I do realize there is a large donation center which occupies a large portion of the warehouse, which is a good thing, but makes it less ideal for shoppers. Hard to complain though when goodwill's purpose isn't dressing up hipsters. Second, i can't stand places that organize by color. Im a smaller dude and can only fit into a handful of the pants or shirts or whatever. So having to go through the cloths that way is just painful. I much prefer it when the 6 pants that fit me are all right next to each and i can quickly see if i like any of them. Their kitchen supplies and knick knacks and shoes are also horribly organized they are just placed on top of the clothing racks all over the store. Not a good system, they really just need to get a floor manager in there or something to just get that ship sailing on the right course. An interior designer maybe to get everything in its right place. Finally the selection is so picked over, there was almost nothing worth while in there. Which is rather unexpected with the donation center right next door and where it is located in Houston. Maybe i just need more info on the best good wills in area, we kind of went there on a whim. They really could do a lot more with that space and location. This is a little disappointing. But hey maybe i caught the store on a bad day. Next time i am in the area perhaps i will stop buy see if they took my advice and maybe I will find a gem or two. read more

I just thought I'd share my GREAT experience with you readers ! Due to the fact that I have recently lost weight and had NO CLOTHES in a size 8, I decided to check out this place. I had only been to one other Goodwill store in Katy, but this River Oaks Goodwill was THE BEST !!!!!! Well, I hit some GREAT baragains !! 98% of what I bought were from Old Navy, Liz Claiborne, Express, Banana Republic, Talbots, Tommy Hilfiger (I PROMISE). Everything below was bought for $120: 5 pair shorts (khakis, bluejeans, etc.) 5 capri pants (some dressy and some casual) 7 shirts (dressy long-sleeved for work, some short-sleeved for summer) 1 leather belt - Calvin Klein 1 pair leather shoes - Talbots (barely worn - $8.99) 1 black leather purse (Nine West) Yep, ALL FOR $120 !! Oh, and the staff there is SUPER-DUPER nice and VERY helpful. It was a true delight. If you have children, my suggestion is leave them home with hubby or find a babysitter. I was able to shop for 4 straight hours .....DEFINITELY worth the trip ! I was told that this store constantly get new / good stuff daily .....enjoy ! read more
