A larger Goodwill location. I won't bother going into the suspicious nature of Goodwill stores - but if you know, you know. And if you choose to donate to "Goodwill" in hopes that it will go to an actual charitable cause, make sure you do your research first. I was in the area and decided to stop here to check out the physical media. Sometimes you can find something decent and this place did have a good and sizable selection of movies - though plenty with damaged discs, plenty of bootlegs, and damaged cases. This place decided that placing their hard to remove price sticker sloppily and in random places on these DVD cases was a good idea - so while you can get some movies for a cheaper price, if you choose to keep them, you'll always have a reminder of where you got it from unless you change cases. They charge $1.99 for DVDs, while the closest Goodwill charges a $1 - I guess things are not the same in every location you go. As mentioned, this was a larger Goodwill in size, so they have seemingly a lot more to offer. The place was busy and the customers were at Walmart level as far as weirdness and such, so I wasn't in the mood to explore. They seemed to have a large selection of clothes if you choose to go for that - I'm sure the prices range. I dealt with only the cashier, who was fine. This place shares the land with several businesses, so there's plenty of parking. Overall, if Goodwill if a place you like to visit, this is a good sized one. If I'm in the area, I might return to check out their physical media (movies), but unlikely. read more

I haven't even been to the Rockaway Goodwill yet, but I already feel great about supporting it -- all thanks to a chance encounter with a wonderful volunteer named David! During the course of a friendly conversation, David mentioned that he volunteers at the Rockaway Goodwill. I told him I usually bring my donations to another location, but David quickly (and cheerfully!) rattled off a list of thoughtful reasons why I should consider bringing them to a closer facility instead. His warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine love for the work being done there really made an impression on me. My friend and I have visited this Goodwill location several times now and we usually score something fun. While I normally don't browse clothing, I usually find something fun in the home goods section. It can definitely be hit or miss, but that's thrifting for you. The store has a huge selection of clothing, but I find it too overwhelming to even really browse because there's too much to sort through. Everything is organized into sections, which makes it simpler to find unique items you want to add to your home or closet. read more

Buyer Beware. I bought a DVD player. When I got home it didn't work. I went back to the store the next day. They wouldn't take it back. They said company policy is all sales are final. Doesn't matter if it's broke or not. I guess a profitable non-profit business model is to eliminate return customers. I won't be donating or shopping there anymore. I still stick by my previous review on this Good Will branch in Rockaway, NJ. The merchandise is abundant, eclectic and reasonably priced, but the staff is comprised of ill-mannered, sarcastic and rude individuals, making your shopping experience at this particular branch -- very unpleasant. I wish the manager would have a good talk with these workers. Frankly, I don't know why yelp exists -- because I have NEVER seen any changes in the complaints that people have posted. In the case of the Good Will Rockaway store, these individuals are still there and still getting away with their rudeness to customers. I give up! read more

Sorry, but this is by far the most expensive Goodwill I have ever been to...and I've been to a LOT of Goodwills. The people with the power of the price tagger here are...delusional. The general rule of thumb is that you sell something second hand for 30% of it's new selling price...and that's 30% if the item is in REALLY good condition. I saw an unremarkable top from the 90s that still had its original tag for $24...they had it priced at $18. That's ridiculous. I think sometimes thrift stores lose sight of the fact that people are shopping there to save money. If they wanted to pay exorbitant prices, they would go to a retail store. If you're looking for a bargain do NOT go here. read more

I'm a sucker for a thrift store. I don't buy clothes, but I'll always look at books, I'm always looking for good deals on good books and this Goodwill always has books. This place actually has a lot of decent stuff...electronics, kitchenware, games and toys-and clothes. Huge selection. I haven't done a donation here, but I'll assume Steve B is right and that it is a smooth process. What I really don't like about this location is the bad customer service. I understand you are dealing with cranky customers who are constantly complaining, but that doesn't mean you also have to be cranky. A little smile goes a long way...give it a shot...I might come back more frequently. read more

I hate to write this, but there is an employee there who just needs to calm down. I stopped to drop off some donations and the young man who was accepting donations was very rude to me and to other people as we were dropping off donations. People were getting very annoyed and were starting to walk away. There is no reason for this. I have multiple disabilities and I firmly support your mission of providing employment for the disabled. It's something Goodwill should be very proud of. However as someone with many years of experience of customer service supervision, it's clear that he should not be in a customer facing position. Why are they turning away donations ? I brought in 4 boxes and was questioned by the guy at the door.. what's in the boxes ? I also had a bag which he went thru took what he wanted and said they can't take the rest. The rest was kitchen items, he proceeded to tell me me to donate the rest to the Salvation Army. You can find the occasional good deal, but mostly junk people drop off. Many things are overpriced. Recently bought some cheap jewelry, and tried to return. Apparently you can't return jewelry, we were never told this. Also be careful when they put items in bags as some cashiers are careless and can damage items. read more

So much for your blue tag, $2.00 sale. I did not find one item with a blue tag. I did buy 2 items and spent $14.00. The thing I dislike about this store is that none of the clothing is in the proper size section. Why bother having tags that say small, medium, large, extra large etc. Nothing is where it is supposed to be. I mentioned this to one of the associates on a previous visit and was told that people put things back in the wrong area. That makes no sense at all, since it is not just an item or 2. It is a total mess. The hangers are horrible and don't hold the clothes. Things are shoved in so tight you cannot find what you are looking for because the hangers don't slide, side to side. Everytime I walk into this Goodwill I think I'm in Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman Marcus because the prices are so high!!!! I mean if I want to spend high prices for things I would buy them new .. We used to shop here all the time. We love finding unique things and vintage video games. I have to say though, we will definitely not be returning to this store unless their prices and attitudes change! Each time we go in, their prices are higher and higher. My husband asked one of the workers jokingly if the person in the back pricing had a stroke. They didn't find it very funny, but it is so very true! We went in there for the last time this past weekend and saw a busted, old, used bike for $60! $60?? Really??? We also saw an old way out of date sub-woofer for $50!!! They are crazy! I'll just go to Walmart and Target and buy what I want brand new for those prices. For inventory that they are getting for FREE, they should be charging yard sale prices! This is exactly what all the inventory is in this store, stuff that you see at peoples yard sales! Their employees are miserable too. I have seen two workers out of many that come and go there who are extremely nice, but the rest of them just look at you with this blank stare. It's VERY creepy! We even had an issue with one of the managers who was full out having an argument with us over the prices. This used to be a really good location. But lately is seems like the prices go up every week or two. Today I had a big issue though. I don't normally buy clothes there but I found a Jacket I liked that had no marked price. The poster said it's $8.49 so I said why not.. But when I got to the counter the guy wanted to charge me 20 bucks.. This place is worse then a car dealership if you want to feel that getting screwed feeling. It used to be a nice place but if you are going to buy anything look it up.. you might just find it new for a few bucks more or in better condition for less. read more

Great place for both donations and shopping - easy easy drop-off with a separate door which you can be in and out with in 3 minutes. With two armfuls of stuff it took no time for the person there to fill out the receipt, me put in my name and be out of the venue. The store itself was nice with a lot of products, a full glass, electronics, book and VHS area - if looking for any of those it will do the job. Beyond that, lots of clothing racks if you're looking for something. Definitely give it a shot for whatever you're looking for read more

My family and I have come here a few times since moving here in 2016, usually to get clothes for the kids or my husband. Today, we took my 2.5 year old to Goodwill to buy a reward for her. We looked at the toys, and she found a puzzle she wanted. We decided to look at the books, too, since we're all avid readers. While my husband, 7 year old daughter, and I were looking at possible books, my 2.5 year old was looking at a Wiggles book on the floor, not in anyone's way. While doing this, a store employee walks over and asks if my 2.5 year old will be buying the book she was looking at. My husband said, "I don't know." The woman then asked again if we were buying the book. We again said we don't know since she's figuring out if she likes it. The employee then said she wasn't allowed to play with it. Ummmm, are you going to throw us out for looking at the books in our hands, too? Are we not allowed to look at something before buying it? Am I not allowed to try on clothes, too, because I am not sure if I'm going to buy it?? Keep in mind while looking at the toys, we made sure our kids put everything back, didn't break anything, and didn't just sit there playing with things they had no intention of getting, while two girls made their way through without supervision breaking things, knocking them down, and playing like they were at home. We get yelled at, though, because our kids are well behaved and we were actually buying what they were playing with...We put everything back, left, and I came back to tell the manager that it was ridiculous. I doubt anything will be done, and this review probably won't stop anyone from going there. For those of you on the fence, though, if you have kids, you're better off going elsewhere. Went on 6/11/2017 Paid about $15 for a glass lamp (overpriced). Went to put in my car - bag hit door and broke it. went right back in the store - manager was quite indignant to me stating that if he credited everyone that broke something and brought it back....I had to walk out because I felt enraged about his disrespect. He didn't even want to hear what I had to say. The other employees were just standing there silent. So I donated about $15 and have no lamp. THE PRICES ARE HIGHER THAN MARSHALLS AND TJMAXX ON MOST ITEMS. I WILL NOT PATRONIZE THIS LOCATION ANYMORE. read more

I'm with Steve B! I love this goodwill store, both for donating and shopping. The donation process is as previously described and very painless. The store itself is well stocked and I'm very impressed with how well the clothing is maintained and presented. Only complaint is that there are just 2 dressing rooms so it can be a bit of a wait to try things on during the weekend. read more

Some of of their clothing is over priced considering the quality, but I have found several items that were nearly new and so worth the price. Its best to go on the Wednesday-- two colors are discounted! However there will probably be a long wait for the dressing room and at the register depending on the time of day. read more
